I feel this should not have to be said, but it needs to be broadcast loud and clear.

This is more RNG, yes you can cash in on it but you can also lose big like myself and many others have. Of my immediate play group only one of us made a profit- though this is a small sample size.

You will see people saying they are making 100s and 1000s of gold from this vendor but that is extremely rare and you will LIKELY lose money on this vendor. It is a money sink that functions as a ecto slot machine.

Gamble if you want, but this is not your way to pay for your precursor.

I agree, from what I have found, although I have bought very little from the vendor (terrified of becoming addicted to it, lol) that you get back approximately what you put in, sometimes more, sometimes less. I think it is a great idea for a vendor and was completely unexpected.

After trying the vendor I made a loss of 130 g and 105 Ectos in a short time. (Used the ascended one only once, mostly the cheap ones).

Any people who actually won using the vendor?

You only win when you get the mystic forge conduit. If people tell you its easy gold they are just baiting you to buy ectos.

I made a profit of 1.5k gold, and like 500 ectos, but my brother lost 500g, so its a gamble guys, be careful and know when to stop. I stopped when i got the achievement

I only used him 9 times. 8 were wins. The one loss was as big as the biggest win. Most of the wins were small. I quit while I was ahead.

What is the achievement under? Meaning category? Or is it something you open by doing it the first time? And what do you have to do to get it, use it so many times?

Just lost 200G and 400 Ectos, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Has the price of Ectos gone up yet? That’s when I’ll make some money.

Playing with the 5 Ecto/40 Silver tier I made about 100 attempts and noted that the trend is slightly upward for Ectos and downward for gold.

Obviously, with the higher priced tiers it is going to be a lot more expensive to hit enough attempts to stay on the trend line so large loss/gain swings are very (scarily) possible.

So basically what you’re saying is Ecto is about to take a spike in price making it even more asininely expensive to craft with. Joy.

I see Ectos spiking right now while people buy them to try out the vendor. Because it seems that you gain Ectos over time, I forsee prices FALLING as we advance through time.

This ecto gamble just sucks. Especially for the title you need 100* 100g+250ecto…. I did it 10 times yesterday, now ~850gold and ~2000 ecto are lost…

It would be great if the little one with 5ecto and 40s would count towards the achievement because I will never be rich enough to waste/lose another 90* 100g+250ecto!

Think about it… this stupid achievement costs currently at worst case around 10.000 Gold and 25.000 ectos, this amount is totally crazy!

IMO – this is a MAJOR missed opportunity ANet had

They could of used Essence of Luck ensuring the crushing of Globs of Ecto from the economy (as well as plenty of other garbage items off the Trading Post) and received the same/more Gambling usage long-term. And it would of encouraged the Trading Post to continue to flow in/out liquidity.

Why do people throw money at these things? A system like this is designed from the ground up with the intent of taking your gold and ectos away so you have to grind for more gold and ectos or get gems and buy gold with them.

It only rewards a few players in order to incentivize and trick more players into playing it so in the long run it will suck more gold and ectos out of the economy.

Much like how gambling “with limits” should be excercised

My method:
Make a big order of say 50g (or whatever) increments for an item like Eternity on the Trading Post which will never be filled. This caps the amount of gold you can readily lose. Then gamble to the amount in your wallet. If you hit a certain win level, bid again on the Trading Post in whatever amount that will never be filled and go another round if you are up to it.

Once you lose what you have in gold, stop for the day. Go to the Trading Post, cancel bids and feel good about the limitation/upside.

It’s similar to leaving the credit/debit cards at home (or in the car) and only playing with the cash you have on hand when you walk in.

Also, don’t get angry that your guildmate is gloating about record winnings. The house always wins in the end.

That’s the point, it makes people play more. You really want to see wonky usage, imagine if ANet put gemstore gems/items on the loot table.

There’s no title. You get an item to do more gambling. The achievement is not worth the reason to do it (2 AP) and you you get 1 AP if you do it just once.

If this is a proper some win/some lose and most break even, the house is probably going to pull 2%-5% (+ whatever is lost from standard Trading Post fees converting Ectos/Mystic Forge components to Gold again). So the cost isn’t 10,000 Gold and 25,000 Ectos, it’s more like an average of 500g and 1,000 ectos (see data results being posted elsewhere).

Although if this become popular enough, the Ecto commodity market will feel like day-trading :P

I bought 1 for 100G + 250ectos and got back 25G and 300ectos. So minus 75G but plus 25ectos. Or just down 50g.

Still, 50g for 1 AP is cheaper than the other +1AP I got from purchasing a Gallant Weapon for 100G.

So I’m not even going to complain about the gambling. I’m happy with the result.

50g for 1 ap, because you had luck. Now try the next 1ap on this achievement for another 9900 gold

And now, there is no 50/50 chance on winning. I know some people that made the 100/100 achievement and they all “lost” ~8.000 gold + ~20.000 ectos^^

This is really only a big crazy goldsink, nothing more or less.

(btw. I don’t complain losing^^ Just want to explain that it is just wrong how still people say you can win or get out “even”. Thats not the case if you try the achievement or play much then you will lose.)

Lol I don’t have thousands of anything lying around. shrug Since I’m not a big gambler, its highly unlikely I’ll visit this npc again. Even for small attempts. I can never seem to horde enough ecto XD

I’d love to see some numbers on the forge conduit though. I know I’d definitely pay good money to be able to forge on the go, especially with the TP so far from the forge in the new LA.

I gave this a go just to see what it’s like. I bought 20ish of the cheapest ones and basically broke even on the ectos and made a little silver. Have no interest in sinking much of my hard-earned gold into it, though.

How unpredictable was it that the odds would be against you? How many attempts does it take to realize this? If any. I mean, who really believes they’d put in a gold or ectoplasm multiplier? Free money? Really?

On a 4 gold plus 50 ecto pick be very aware that you are paying 24 gold each time kitten ecto is about 20 gold on the tp
First time I got back 22 gold second time 8g…….

If you’re worried about losing gold and gambling to fund an existing project then don’t use the destabilization merchant. However if you’re not worried about losing some gold then go ahead.

After 180 tries on the exotic 4g/50e package I am now 720 ecto richer and minus 11 gold, which the ecto makes up for anyway. (11g would only buy me around 26ish ecto at current market prices which are raising slowly by hour with this new gamble).

RNG is RNG, I’ll continue and carry on documenting within the spreadsheet.

Started with ~1600g 250e. Ended with ~40g 700e.
Do not try this at home if you can’t afford losing all of your money. The only reason i did it is that i stopped playing gw2.))

This really is breaking news! So there is not a magical guaranteed money making machine in the game! Outrageous!

Isn’t the glob gamble essentially the same gamble as the Mystic Forge toilet flushing but without the trouble of having to buy up or create tons of weapons?

When I saw it I assumed it was there to reduce the influence gambling in the Mystic Toilet has on the pricing of items on the TP.

May I kindly ask where is this Ecto Vendor located?
