I don’t mean to trash or defend the Dailies at all that’s been done plenty already.
I’m curious however, if others share the same disappointment I do with the events in the open world.

The new Dailies force a particular map to become swarmed with players searching for events to do. This is amazing, players are going out and doing these events which I’m sure were rarely completed. This being said the events in question would be enjoyable for a group of maybe 3 people. I was under the impression that the open world events would scale in difficulty to the player base involved. My assumption therefore being if one person stumbles across it one person will be able to complete it, and as such if 10 people come across it 10 people will be able to complete it with a similar amount of difficulty.

In my personal opinion the events scale horribly and are rendered an unenjoyable mess as 20 players face a measly force of 5 mobs which die before the majority can even tag them. Or worse, a timed event where you have to defend for X amount of time but instead end up sitting around for X amount of time because the mobs spawning in opposition wouldn’t be able to bend grass. The open world events should be something we enjoy, I’m not asking for champion spawns and loot and chests, I just want to enjoy playing the game.

Does anybody else share my opinion? Are the open world events lackluster due to the higher volume of players involved?

Typically I have to agree that the events don’t scale well with really large numbers of players in the same general vicinity. Most of the time there are about 10 mobs for everyone to share and getting a hit on even one can be frustrating. You’re lucky to get a bronze from such events.
But… tonight I got to experience a different kind of event scaling. In Gendarren Fields while defending a settlement from centaurs, the zerg arrived. We went from about 6 players to at least 40 or more.
The centaurs went from Vets to Elites and what was a small wave quadrupled into trampling waves of centaurs plowing through multitudes of players downing them in two hits. The death and destruction was everywhere. Bodies being flung like ragdolls as the trampling continued. Even those trying to help the freshly downed were trampled to death in seconds.
I laughed so hard at the insanity of it all as I attempted to kill something, anything to cull the centaur horde.
Just when a few commanders tried to organize some kind of plan for might stacking, the event failed.
I really wanted that event to last just to see if there was any way it could succeed.

Aside from this one instance I believe scaling needs to be a little more harsh for zergs that will be taking over maps for daily achievements.

I participated twice in successful completions of that event, which was Save Nebo Terrace from the Centaurs, and yes, it was scaled perfectly.

As for the OP, I suggest running around the map yourself and not following the zerg, most maps have enough events, and even some that can be initiated by the player that you can complete 4 events without being with a large mass of players. Then scaling issues do not even come into play at all.

I don’t think that normal world events were created to be done by zerg. Several World Boss events have the same problems, but these were designed for more players (before megaserver zerg).

I think the solution could be if all players did not have the same map as daily. It could be randomly chosen. They would be spread out across the whole Tyria and with the megaserver system there would be still enough players to do events but not so many as now.

@Infernia
I did the same event yesterday and we succeeded, but it was really hard. We were defending “my” gate in 12-15 players , but we had almost only Vets or Elites which were 2-3 levels above us. We had also 2 champs. Event took too much time and waves were in quite low intervals for such scale. Upscaled foes are not a big problem on L80 maps, but on low level maps you see the difference. I don’t think I will do this event with zerg again.
