Everyone stop complaining about ascended
Remains to be seen what is ArenaNet going to do when the grinders have a full Ascended set (weapons, armor, accessories), turn and ask the developers, “What’s next?”.
Level cap increase. Look at all that level 90 gear out there. Level 90 Masterwork is better than level 80 ascendant now! And then the skritt in player character clothing go out and dutifully collect the new shinies.

Maybe because the skin is kittening horrible?
Well, there’s this too lol
I’ve seen a few transmuted ones linked as well
~~snip~~
I think I just found my religion! Will you marry me?
Not many, go to a champ farm and take a look. I’ve only seen a few people with one, and one person had just got lucky and got one from a chest in WvW.
I’m not one to go to a couple champ farms only on my server and draw conclusions on the entire population of gw2 like what seems to be the habit here on the forums.
I made no claims as to the percentage of people that have it already or that they were in a large abundance, only that they are out there already. I have seen people with them, people in guild getting them and people here on the forums reporting they made them already.
While they are not everywhere (yet) and no one can claim any percentage of the population, they are being made already was what I intended to say there. When it was supposed to be something that was intended to be a challenge or time-consuming task for people who wanted one.
What I was trying to say was it did not fail, the majority of people don’t have an ascended yet, even among grinders. Yes, some people already have one, either because they got lucky, or they had the resources to craft one, and they probably burned a large amount of their resources when it came to getting that one weapon.
And unfortunately for some(I wish they were account bound) , ascended weapons are soul bound on equip, meaning they will have to obtain all the mats they spent once again to craft another one, because they’re not going to stop at one, and may even have to level another craft to 500.
Due to the fact that Anet made it so deldrimor and spirit planks can be bought on the tp, I think anet already figured some people were going to craft one in less than a week. If they really wanted to lock people in they would have made those account bound as well.
I agree that people want goals.
But those goals were supposed to come in the form of new skills and skins. If there is one thing I miss from Guild Wars it’s the skill hunting. Bigger numbers is just a poor substitute for real progression and real progression is what Guild Wars 2 needs. Allow us to unlock more weapon types. Allow us to unlock multiclassing. Allow us to collect skins and give us a wardrobe to store said skins in. Allow us to make use of our personal instance and search the world for things to fill it with.
You want to be different from all the other MMOs thriving on pointless gear grinds? Then give us REAL progression!
Oh, mr Jatacid, why do you even bother? People are simply stupid whinners and they will always remain that way no matter the number of threads you create or the quality of the product they consume. After many years of social observation I have come to believe that the only thing people do not whine about is what they eat, even if it is hardfened kitten…

I think ArenaNet has realized that it’s cheaper and easier to be like the other MMOs, and thus thrive on pointless gear grind.
treadmill, of being in that obvious pattern of every time I catch up you are going to
put another carrot in front of me” – Mike O’Brien right before Ascended weapons
OP, you don’t understand the concept of reverse psychology very well, do you. Telling angry people not to complain as the subject of a discussion is like hanging out a sign saying “come here to complain.” That’s why a lot of “complaints about complaining” threads get closed, it’s an invitation to a group kitten session, not a true discussion about an issue.

Work in a restaurant for a while, they complain about that too.

Angry? No – I would get kitten ed my class was nerfed for pvp reasons.
This additional heavy grind does not allow me the time to “play what I want”. Rationally I would have to seriously consider quitting the game as I cannot keep up rather than returning to this game once in a while apart from doing dailies.
In any case, unless something is done to nerf the ascended weapon requirements or buff the ascended mats drop, I will not buy any more gems from Anet, hence $0.

That’s exactly what I’ve been telling to my friends. Doing innovative stuff can make you exhausted. While the simple stuff cost much less effort and can give you profit anyway. So why bother?
Guild Wars 2 is another one example that mmorpg is a mindless grinding stuff, while innovative and interesting stuff belongs to offline rpg.
Guild Wars 1 was innovative, it was unique. But Guild Wars was more like offline rpg, with cooperative and online elements. Perfect combination.
If you want to create innovative, unique online game, Guild Wars 1 is a perfect example.
But Guild Wars 2 is a perfect example that mmorpg will always be the same and will never change. At least I don’t believe in it. But maybe Blizzard will surprise me with their new project “Titans”.
I think that Guild Wars 2 isn’t innovative by the way. Yes they have some new stuff, but in general, Guild Wars 2 have just collected many things from innovative Guild Wars 1 and other mmorpg projects.

Play how you want as long as you want to do mindless zerg spamming 1 in temples and world bosses.
Actually no I just posted about how this system of upgrading to ascended which is necessary btw for anyone who wishes to see the newest fractals they are coming out with or for doing WvW, is not alt freindly at all.
New players in particular are being forced to grind because the materials needed to make their gear doesn’t drop until you are doing the champion level events at level 80. Huge oversight imo. This not only affects new players but also older players with multiple alts. Basically you have to level thru the entire game and then start grinding at level 80 some of which you’ll already have done prior to reaching level 80.
As far as the feel is concerned, exotics were the end game gearing process and it’s not the new players fault nor is it the older players with multiple alts fault that they didn’t make exotics harder to get, but now those two types of players will be punished.
But maybe Blizzard will surprise me with their new project “Titans”.
Wasn’t Titan cancelled? I thought I read something about that a while ago… Titan cancelled, EoN a money pit when one of the companies involved imploded, ESO postponed until next year…
The market is pretty well saturated and almost all recent games have changed horses midstream, going from sub-based to FTP and so on. GW2 is actually a rare success for the genre.

Titan wasn’t exactly canceled. Most of the staff was laid off and it’s being reworked from scratch though. It might as well be canceled.
I’m thinking Anet has about a year to shore this game up before the next big game comes along.
Yeah, that’s corp-speak for cancelled. I wouldn’t say this game is in trouble, despite the latest kittenstorms. But by now they should have had time to collect enough data and tweak their plans to decide which direction to go in. The next year should clarify that focus.
LOL wow just wow, someone felt they needed to troll me so hard that they actually logged into game and found my character I was playing and whispered me something trollish before either blocking me or logging off as fast as they could!
I was just posted about how wrong it was earlier to expect people to reach max level before gathering these materials from champions in the crafting forum because I noticed it on my low level toon and I guess I hit a nerve.
All I can say is if these forums incite you to this much rage don’t read them whoever it is.

Is it the same guy as this?
Actually yes it was LOL I was just unwilling to post the pic with their name on it. Amazes me. When they started the whole fractal thing we knew that people like that would be what they attracted to the game, those who complain somehow that people feel entitled to everything when really we would like a well balanced system of progression without the power creep or cutting off our alts. I guess they couldn’t handle the things we were saying in the forums. odd.

I had the feeling that it wasn’t “personal” (since I never saw him on this forum/talked to him) but some mental person who’s probably whispering all the people he hate on this forum at the moment. And blocking them before they can answer, because god forbid you take responsibility for your verbal aggression and listen to a retort.

Quite frankly I’m surprised they are allowing this sort of thing to carry on. It’s one thing to hakitten out on the forums but this is a tad extreme.
“ Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It’s all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectable items in the game: armour pieces, potentially different potions – a lot of that is still up in the air and we’ll finalise a lot of those reward systems as we get closer to release. And those come off of things like the bosses at the end of dungeons – the raids.”
Colin, Eurogamer, September 2011. So in a grand total of 2 years they did a 180° turn on this important game design choice. I wonder what’s in store for 2014.
But everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80, CAN have the best statistical loot in the game with Ascended. IT IS an equal footing!
And 180 degree turn? Hardly at all! They also stated that Ascended will be the last tier. What’s in store for 2014? You’re speaking like they just introduced the plaque and your character dies if you use a waypoint -_- If they keep updating this game every two weeks, keep iterating and improving every single living story content, keep completing gearing options, then by 2014 this will be an amazing mmo. Get your head out of the sand, this tiny design decision doesn’t impact anyone but the biggest complainers.
Actually what Colin said to the question “Will there be a higher tier after ascended 1-2 years from now..?” was “I hope not” that’s hardly a definitive “NO” answer btw.
NONONO YOU DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT MY FAVORITE GAME!!
Considering one of the reason why I got this game was that I don’t like chasing stats and like having multiple builds and alts which is the sort of thing this games was supposedly going to support, ascended gear is not good for me. What do I want out of end game content? Actual content that’s fun to play through. New skills and build opening up over time.
I very much doubt anyone who is new player is going be able to get and ascended weapon soon after hitting 80 especially since Karma’s been nerfed.
Les see…for my thief to be fully geared out I need 4 daggers (because of different builds), 2 pistols, a sword and a short bow. Once they add ascended armor that’s 3 new set of amour that will take god knows how long as well.
For my Mesmer I need 2 swords, a staff, a greatsword, a focus and a pistol. I don’t use scepter or torch much so I wouldn’t bother with that…unless of course I make scepter or torch build later. Plus 2 maybe 3 if I like a build I’m trying out sets of armor.
For my ele I need 2 daggers, a staff, a scepter but focus I don’t use much. Again 2 armor sets.
For my Necro I need a scepter, 2 daggers and staff. As of now I don’t use my axes , war-horn or focus a whole lot and only use one armor set but this is my latest 80.
I also want to get a guardian.
My ranger I only use for messing around so don’t really care. I don’t have a war or engi yet and probably won’t bother gearing them properly when I do get them unless I end up falling in love with the class.
So that’s 22 weapons for the stuff I’m currently using and we know ascended armor is coming in the future as well. Even if I only got ascended weapons for my most commonly used builds on my mes and thief that’s still 7 weapons. This might be small for people who only play one character and just use the same gear all the time but for people with multiples this a massive undertaking. Especially if you don’t already have 400 in weapon crafting.
And this is on top of getting the appearance I want for them which I wouldn’t mind taking a long time if I’m not grinding for stats as well.

I don’t care what folks like the OP say … this game was heavily marketed as being anti-grind and it has turned out to be anything but that. Even the recent Scarlet invasions were popular NOT because they were all that fun (they were pretty mindless and boring after the first few) … they were popular only because they gave lots of loot, in itself a form of grind.
Stormbluff Isle [AoD]
You have your misguided opinion on this game op, i have mine..
Wont stop me voicing it.

This is a huge problem with the MMO genre. Its getting stagnant very quickly. ANet can get away with introducing a new tier of gear and grind and zerg-only content and have people defend them in droves because the population isn’t dwindling. Well, there’s nowhere else to go. With most MMO’s following the tried and true safe path of content, why bother starting and investing time in another game when you’ve already started here (or wherever) and all other options are the same cookie-cutter MMO formula.
I don’t hate Anet or GW2. I don’t want to see them fail. This game has so much potential and I’d like to see it realized, not thrown away on shallow temporary content and conforming to the same old boring MMO standards in terms of other content. Ascended just seemed like a cheap cop-out to match every other MMO out there.
I don’t really see this as a grind, its people wanting the gear ASAP that create the grind. Just playing the game, you will have the required mats to craft this stuff in no time at all. Furthermore, you might even get lucky and have an item drop for you …..
Put it this way, from all the mats I’ve accumulated over the course of playing (i average about 2 hours a night roughly 5 days a week), i will have my first Ascended weapon when i get home from work tonight. None of this was a grind for me, i didn’t rush …. i simply played. If you don’t have a craft that can make the items, that’s OK … like i said above, one MAY drop for you.
Furthermore, lets not pretend that obtaining exotics without crafting them doesn’t require at least some type of grind. If anything, whats missing is the ability to purchase Exotic weapons with Karma / Badges / Whatever …..
I honestly just think there is a few people around here that a slightly kitten ed that they cant just buy some gems, trade it for gold and buy these items from the market. the BOA materials is whats causing it.
Here’s some advice – put it to the back of your mind, play the game and eventually you will have whatever you desire. There seems to be enough time between patches that introduce gear to easily accumulate the items …..
I agree it was supposed to have lots more options for diverse builds there’s alot of problems with the combat system right now that’s preventing that and even tho recent changes to the runesets like the traveler set did help classes like engineer a bit in PVE there’s still a long long way to go before it’s actually diverse.
The problems with acquiring the PVE gear for ascended could have been easily avoided had they used a PTR system for testing before releasing this anti-alt content update.
I agree that people want goals.

Sadly, a dual class system and a real choice of skills and traits is too complicated for this game’s target audience. Obviously, fireworks and pinatas every 2 weeks is much more important when it comes to resource allotment.

Maybe it’s like that for you. I play more than you do, and yet if i were to do it nomally, it would take me at least two to three months per weapon. Just raising crafts to 500 (and i need two of those for my main alone) would be impossible this year if i didn’t specifically farm for it (which i usually don’t do). That’s not “no time at all”.
If you don’t have a craft that can make the items, that’s OK … like i said above, one MAY drop for you.
It’s like saying “don’t worry if you don’t earn anything at work, that’s ok, you can still hope to win the lottery.”
Chances are about the same, after all.

Oh man that’s pathetic. I guess someone was afraid of public scrutiny? There is also nothing new in the information he wrote, and it completely ignores the actual concerns voiced by you and others. Namely, that it’s not the extra work that is the problem, but the fact that it shouldn’t be necessary in the first place to acquire max stat potential. And that enjoyment isn’t gained by grinding through additional tiers, but by the quality and quantity of the game’s content.
That said, and although I’m divided on the addition of this tier, I do admit this addition pushes players into exploring more aspects of the game they would have otherwise ignored. For example, I had never bothered with chests before, whereas now, I actually enjoy a little chest race on 4 characters from time to time. Or solo-cap a few WvW camps, which is risky but fun. It’s a bit like the Liadri fight; it forced you to think about your character’s skills, whereas this one forces you to explore other parts of the game. You might not like it at first, but it could well change/enrich your gaming experience for the better. Then again, it may not, in which case the ascended tier kittens.
