are people still getting these? i havent had one for at least 2 months and im putting in 3/4 hours a day and more on the weekend

You have bad luck and/or you’re not tagging mobs for loot credit

I havent gotten an exotic in a long time either. Run Fractals, COF P1 Speed Clears and at least 1 dungeon every day. Their RNG is way to wide to the point where sometimes Ill get 5 rares in 1 dungeon run and then for the next few weeks barely sniff a rare.

Yep, still getting them.

Mostly I only get exotics from dragons or other chests. But this could be simply due to the fact I farm Orr far too much and have been excluded from the exotic section of the loot table :P

Not counting Mad King pieces I’ve only received 2 exotic pieces ever, counting Mad King stuff it would be six. One dropped and one from a random chest, dragon chests never give anything of value for me, not even enough vendor trash to cover the cost to WP there let alone any repair costs incurred. So I’ve given up on dragon chests.

I find it hard that someone who has at least 1900 hours in game would only have got 2 exotics, ever.

I’ve been playing GW2 for about 5 weeks now and thus far I’ve got 1 exotic. I reached level 80 on my first character a little over a week ago and I am not sure if that affects whether or not I would get exotic drops. But anyway, yeah, 1 exotic thus far.

I have almost 600 hours played and have never had an exotic drop. Only exotics ive ever gotten was from dungeon token vendor or karma vendors. However pre-november 15 patch I could do events and leave with my bag full of rares, now I rarely even get a rare.

I’ve never gotten an exotic drop, but i couldn’t really care less about it

I have 1100+ hours and have never had an exotic drop in the open world. I have gotten 3 cloth armor exos on my guardian from fractal chess but that was when fractals first came out.

1200+ hours. Not a single exotic drop yet. Not one since day one.

Notice I said “open world drops”. It turns out I was off on my hours….1,992 according to /age.

1115 hours, 2 exotic drops. Both came within the same week (it was either late December or early January). Both times I was in a group. Oddly, though I’ve got 4 80’s, both items dropped for my Mesmer, who I’ve played less than the other three.

600+ hours, full mf set. I usually get exo once a week from world drops (from fractals more often) , playing one, two hours daily.

Well you folks either:
1.) Don’t wear MF gear
2.) Don’t kill nearly enough mobs per hour

I farm shelt/pen a lot, and I get most of my exotics there. I have appx 1400 hours in game and I can confidently guess I’ve had +30 exotics drop for me, one of them being Dusk. Probably 5 of those were from Dragon/puzzle chests. I even started screenshotting all my exotic drops starting two months ago.

Never seen one drop. Ever! Probably got something to do with me spending 70% of my GW time leveling alts….

Let’s keep in mind that exotic drop rates are like epic world drop rates in WoW. I only ever saw one of those during my 6 year stint.

non chest exotics- 14. just got reyna’s coat earlier today and hypnotic scepter earlier this week.

chest exotics- 50+. i don’t really count these as they aren’t affected by mf and i also don’t consider them ‘drops’ nor open world rewards.

my event buddy finds 1-3 exotics per day. i didn’t believe him until he started linking every one that dropped.

500-600 hours of play

• I received 3 from the Karka chest, which was a complete aberration for so many people (Vatlaaw’s Gloves, The Hunter, Ancient Karka Shell)
• I received 2 from the Wintersday event (Berserker’s Acolyte Mask of Divinity, Berserker’s Shield of Agony)
• I had one drop that I remember and couldn’t use it (Axiquitl). It was from from one of the first regular mobs I killed as I entered cursed shore.
• I’ve never gotten one from a dragon or any other boss chest, I’ve never gotten one from a dungeon and have never gotten one from the multitude of other chests I’ve opened, including every jumping puzzles in the game. The mad king chest bugged out and wouldn’t open for me, so I missed out there too.
• ALL other exotics I’ve received came from area completion rewards or I made them.

Due to the lucky precursor drop from the karka event, I have full two sets of exotic gear, one for condition damage and one for MF, none of it came from drops. I either bought and/or made all of it.

Ironically, I haven’t received many more rares than this either.

Kicking myself in the kitten for selling that precursor now. How were we to know though. The patch said precursors and other named exotics would be more common, not the disaster they’ve become.

In short, I’ve had one open world drop outside of area completion and special events.

Exotics drop? I have never seen one drop (not counting the Mad King set).

got 4 today by farming mobs in open world that is Orr. 1 from champ and 3 from vets. Got arround 20 rares. Few of them just runing trough currsed shore.

ofc i have 100% + MF on my gear + food.

I’ve received 4 from dragon chests, 1 from a jump puzzle, a few from open world mobs & non-dragon meta events, I can’t tell you how many from dungeons/fractals and maybe 6 or 7 from map completion.

Just looking at the amount of exotics on the trading post alone, yes – they do drop, Virginia

Not a single one since I started in December and I play for at least 5 hours week nights and about 12/day on weekends. About 10 rares in that time. RNG must hate me.

See, that’s the thing. MF is a tax. If you don’t pay the tax, you’re on the low end of the curve. Imo this is the worst mechanic in the game.

Also, doesn’t it strike people as odd that there’s only one generally known spot where you can kill “enough mobs per hour.” The hot spot used to be Plinx, but I haven’t seen his chain running for quite a while.

1400 hours, how much of that time is spent on high-yield farming? You say a lot, but that’s pretty vague. I did a lot of node farming in Orr back when mob density was higher, and killed a ton of mobs (I don’t run through mobs). Too bad there isn’t a /killed feature that counts mob kills.

I think I had a couple in the first 1k hours. Then, yesterday after the maintenance patch I got one exotic armor and a precursor, sadly venom, an aquatic weapon. I also found 4-5 rares in the first hour of play. Today Ogden’s mask dropped. Most exotics I’ve seen since launch. I’ve found the general rule is exotics very, very rarely drop except on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s in the month of February, after maintenance patches, in the year 2013.

I have over 2000hrs logged and have only recieved 1 exotic EVER as a drop. And that was a mad king piece during halloween event.

I get an exotic drop every second or third day, usually from a dungeon run, ocassionally from an in world chest. Very rarely from a mob.

My wife has been mad lucky lately she keeps getting named exotics. She doesn’t have long to live. lol

I’ve never used MF. Literally never. I’ve had several exotic drops – heavy breastplate, scepter (anura I think?), light armor shoulders, and a speargun (only one I actually equipped). There are probably a few more, but these are the ones I know for sure off the top of my head.

Rounding up to 580 hours played on this character (my only 80 – all others are below 30).

I’ve only ever seen one exotic drop since launch. This is across all 8 of my characters and 1300 hours played.

Unfortunately I’m in that exact same boat. Only two ever world exotic drops (one from a corrupted quaggan and the other from an ice elemental add in a claw of jormag event). I don’t even remember when I got them, only that I haven’t gotten anything since.

Chests (from dungeons in particular), on the other hand, are given a different set of loot tables, which can give exotics with a fair bit more certainty. Say one in every 25 dungeon runs you’ll come across an exotic (orange) item whether it be a sigil, a recipe, a weapon or a piece of armour. In that regard I don’t count chests as part of receiving exotics. The odds for a world drop are far greater, and as some others here would say, very few and way too far between.

got a usoku’s needle from HoTW butchers chest last night.
Friend of mine got 3 exotics in WvWvW the night before that.

They do apparently still exist outside fractals.

I started in August – 600hrs on main ~400hrs on alts = no exotic dropped, no lodestone dropped.
Exotics received: karka chest, map completion.

I think it might be because I have a mostly condition build Ranger and a support build guardian lvl80’s. The rest are all babies still <lvl50 – 23

I hadnt got an exotic drop from the Halloween event until mid January. I cut my hours of playing all the way down to a few evenings WvW and the occasional dungeon and ive now got two in a week, one being a particularly nice find

RNG or DR, I dont know but after months of nothing I got two big somethings. Just keep playing the game and having fun or take a break for a little bit.

Yeah I agree…definitely had my share of superior sigils of ghost slaying, smoldering, or sup rune of the monk from chest w/o mf. In open world farming however I run full +96 MF with food (peach tarts 26% mf +60 pwer), booster +50, guild +10, banner +10, and sup sigil of luck +15=197 mf and it evidently does not help my exo drops….lol

I don’t get a lot, but I definitely get about one per week.

With no real magic find to speak of, just MF food.

I’ve had only one drop, ever. That was from the chest at the end of one of the Wintersday instances. And I play a lot.

You can get a exotic drop from a regular mob?

Ive been playing for almost 2 months now and have never seen one drop from mob, ever. Only ones i have ever got are either from jumping puzzle chests or map completion.

Never even got one from dragon chests.

Main problem is you never know if you hit DR, DR is a shadowy system.

If anyone is charting, I was on MF 24% (no MF gears), and I got 3 exotics during my last 1 month run in shelter/pentinent farming, which I do about 1 to 2 hours a day. Before that, no exotics from temple boss (3 bosses), dragon chests (I only did dragon once) or anywhere else. I also got 1 exotic sceptre while running CoF p1 (i only ran 5 or 6 times so far).

Yeah like the DR thread i started yesterday about farming for armored scales, ive got 4 in 40 hours of farming and a guy posted who got over 20 in his first 2 hours…..

Closing in on 700hrs played. I’ve had exactly 0 (zero, zilch, goose egg) exotic drops. Guess I should finally start running with MF gear and dedicate myself to farming. I’m sure not having any luck playing “normally”.

Also never seen one pop from a chest, dragon or otherwise. Every exotic I have has been bought or crafted.

Fractal 10+ they drop like candy coupled with + MF food

Around 1000 hours played, 4600 points, 6 exotics.

1 from Arah p3 first chest (medium boots).
1 from Fractals Maw chest (account bound short bow).
1 from a puzzle chest in LA (light boots or leggins… don’t remember).
3 from loot.

I think I got another 10 exotics from map completion.

On the other hand, I already have like 12 ascended rings just from the Fractals 10 daily.

I run with just over 100% mf minimum and higher with buffs and food, in pve i’ve had around 20 exotics drop from mobs plus ive had 3 from dragon chests (i know mf does not effect chests). I hardly run dungeons and fractals but when i have i change my gear to no mf, had around 6 exotics drop in total from them. Have played 900 hours on my main (which is very lucky) and around 150 hours on alts.
I’ts down to how lucky you are i guess
