Features Patch 15.4.14
I was about to make this thread! When is the Chinese release?
“The biggest of those must be the change to the dye system. In the NA/EU launch version dyes were character unlocks, whereas in the China version they’re account unlocks. With this new system you only need to collect a dye once and you can use it on any character. This is more convenient, but it means demand for dye will go down, so we’re also reducing supply. Dye unlocks now come only from crafting and from the gem store.”
Couldn’t have they have just, I don’t know, reduced dye drop rate?

That wouldn’t bring them phat sales from the cash shop.
Remember when a dev said before the game’s release that Dyes would be account based in Guild Wars 2, then we got the character based dye system. Good times.
No wonder why all my alts are using ugly kitten dyes, because you have to be crazy to actually use a non ided dye instead of selling it.
Errr account bound dyes is ‘the feature’? That’s something should have been there from the start lol.
Still confused as how the chinese system works. So they have unidentified dyes and buy the whatever unlocker thingy and get a dye. Does it only render dyes that haven’t previously been unlocked, if the system is for account-bound dyes? Or does it have a chance for both new and unlocked dyes? If so can doubles be traded in or sold?
Cause the only way I can imagine such a system work is if it has a guaranteed chance for a new dye, with dyes no longer tradeable. Otherwise it feels like something easily manipulated towards p2w, put some cash in unlockers then sell dyes on TP at insane prices. We’re already seeing this with the LW tie-in dyes. cough Glacial Sky for 300g cough
HA! Finally, if this change goes through I’ll be able to clear 2 bank expansion slots by using all my dyes and not agonising over which character should get which! Very, very happy with this idea.

Dye seeds took 24 hours to grow into a harvestable dye, they sold an item in the gem store that could speed up the process and dyes could not be traded.
While reading the post on Reddit (good find by the OP btw, cheers) it mention the Feature patch will release after CBT3 and before China launch. Whens CBT3? only date I saw the when China could Pre-Order Gw2. which was the 2nd of April, not when it would launch . just wonder where the OP got the date 4/15/2014.
edit note: Nvm, saw a response from someone in that reddit page….
“CBT3 is going on for 2 weeks it started on the 11th so on the 25th.”
weather that’s true or not I cant confirm.

Wow, what a big changes… nothing to do here.

Like I said all, ‘clues’ from the devs (its like a scavenger hunt getting anything out of Anet), point to 15th April.
They want it to be in China version of GW2, as well as EU/NA version and 15th is in there release sequence.
Anet are probably very busy with the China release and fitting it in with EU/NA release times atm…once its all settled down we will probably see a upsurge in bi weekly releases again, hopefully.

this is not a “features patch”
I don’t see how messing with our systems can be construed as Features, QOL or anything really.
I was under the impression that the “Features Patch” would set up the systems for Season 2 of the LS.
to me-
QOL would be:
a PvE locker
a UI tab for consumables/ mini’s
features would include things like new weapon skills per class.
Order missions
housing!
Messing with my dyes and putting weird gates on skills for new players does not qualify
and nowhere do I see any mention of the content more related to expansions like zones, skills, classes, zones , races
this is disappointing even to me- I am too polite to say what I actually think of it
this is not a “features patch”
…
What’s mentioned isn’t the feature patch, it’s the changes made to the Chinese client specifically for the Chinese release.
Also, references to the PvE locker, aka the Wardrobe, have already been added to the game files.

Yes, I only referenced this because it gives us a good clue when the features patch is being released. Its going to contain a lot of additional stuff, like the runes revamp, 2 sigils in 2-h weapons, new spvp rewards etc…

All right then- the title threw me there.

That’s what I think as well. They’ve been so quiet about the changes coming that I don’t think they would release all the changes in an interview about China. They mentioned nothing of what’s in the feature patch directly. This is good news because all the recent threads about WvW and how the patch couldn’t come during the season, etc. got me worried.
Wouldn’t this place the feature patch right in the dead center if the WvW season?
I consider that unlikely.
anet specifically said they will not be making major changes while the WvW season 2 tourney is going on…. so this can’t be possible (I mean it is, but than anet must be liars lol)
March 28 is when the tourney starts, ends late May I think?
I don’t expect to see any major changes like the feature patch to be implemented until WvW season 2 is completed.
Now they could very well change it prior to the WvW tourney starting but who knows at this point, its all speculation until we get an official response. I’m just not going to believe a major change will occur during WvW season 2… it would be totally unfair
Now they should released some news about it, because the LS is finished and Colin said that after the LS they will talk…
I hope sooner rather than later.
“Dye unlocks in the CN version are account unlock instead of character unlocks.”
BRING THAT HERE!
Bad@Thief: Kiera Gordon
Sea of Sorrows, a server never before so appropriately named.
Would just like to point out that I wouldn’t hold to much stock in Anet’s promises of not making any major changes while the WvW season 2 is running as they also said that about season 1 yet we got a slew of PvE content thrown into the borderlands, among other things
Introducing the feature patch at any point during the WvW tourney would make Devon Carver rage.
Even if the feature patch omitted any sort of balance changes, having all this new content during the tourney would keep people from playing WvW for several weeks.

THIS!
Anet even promised Guild Wars 2 would have all dyes account bound a long while ago (before release) I guess they forgot to mention “only if you live in China”…

If you read the link, you’d realize that Anet is going to bring it to NA/EU
The question is, would you accept paying gems for it, like in China.

Only the dyes you buy from the gemstore, which is stupid.
From what I gather they want to bring account unlocks to NA/EU for the dye packs.

Great, I have spent like 500g on Abyss/Celestial Dyes and now they are going to change that?
BTW, is so good to know we paid to be the beta-tester for the Chinese market (I just hope the chinese complains about bugged content are heard).

The question is, would you accept paying gems for it, like in China.
That’s the question I brought up in the BLTC section. We don’t know the exact details of how it works, and depending on the system, it can be very popular or very controversial.
That being said, would you pay 40 gems to have Dye X available across all characters? That seems to be how it works in China.
Great, I have spent like 500g on Abyss/Celestial Dyes and now they are going to change that?
Well, I suppose I have to sell the ones I have right now before they cost 1c
Which is a good thing, some dye prices are just ridiculous.

I don’t really know the answer to that question myself. Some dyes, yeah, I might. But here’s the thing: I wouldn’t for the vast majority. Will I still have to pay gems for a dye I might want on one character but no other? Will I still have to pay gems just to find out what a dye is (and thus whether or not I want it across all characters)? Given no current answer on those, I think I’d rather the devil I know since it’s worked for me so far.
The reason I interjected in the first place is because the “account bound dyes? heck yeah!” attitude was ignoring how the system seems to actually work.
Feels like they always talk about how things will be “fixed” and better in the future(e.g things that has been broken here sense day 1).
But it never happens, the cake is a lie. (;_;)
The question is, would you accept paying gems for it, like in China.
You can still CRAFT dyes according to Mark O’Brian. The question is of course still what impact that would have on the prices of dyes.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
What does that mean for the 250 I need for my legendary?
I’ve been slowly collecting dyes as drops or from harvesting plants. I’m up to about 198 of the 250 I will need.
Now, I’ll either need to craft them myself, buy them on the TP or pay real money for them?
Will I at least be able to get them with laurels still?
^ the $1000 000 laurel question occurred to me too ^

Yeah…season 1 WvW tournament we had PvE content that made doing one of the achievements frustrating to impossible to do.
Honestly, I don’t mind them making changes during a WvW tournament, bring it on…the more curve balls the better I say, I want a challenge…
Errr account bound dyes is ‘the feature’? That’s something should have been there from the start lol.
- Well duh! Their strategy is to have small trickle of essential features and bug fixes coming every few months to give the impression that the game is moving forward.

Replaces 250 unid dyes with 250 putrid essence
/HOPE
Some people are confusing some things when talking about they supposedly won’t do during S2.
During WvW S2, they supposedly won’t release something that affects WvW. For example :
-account bound WXP
-a new map (there’s no known plan for that, but it’s an example)
-new WvW mechanics (yeah, like that will happen)
-and maybe an important balance update
The rest of the possible features, won’t directly affect WvW. So all the QQ yesterday wasn’t about the feature patch not coming for months, it was because once S2 begins, we are pretty sure we aren’t getting account WXP until it ends…

How I would love that xD. But it’d be quite weird to craft a gift of color, with putrid essences xD.
Account bound dyes would be great, but I’m hesitant to get excited because it could prove to be more costly than the current system. As is, I have to buy the same dye 8 times if I want it on all of my characters. But 8 × 2s vs a currently unknown gem cost…who know what will be better? More convenient, yes. But potentially more expensive too, given that supply will drastically drop. Also, that means that fewer players will benefit from selling dyes, but rather Anet’s gem store will profit instead.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Bah they should have done so from the start. I already have Abyss and Celestial for all my characters :P
Kind of a waste there…
I would imagine that Un-id’d dyes will still drop in the world, but they’ll be like Black Lion Chests where you need a “key” (Dye Unlocker) in order to open them and use the contents.
If they still drop in the world, they’ll likely remain tradeable as well. The price on them, like the Black Lion Chests, should drop dramatically as the dye itself is useless without a “key”.
Logic will never win an argument on the forums…..only a sense of entitlement will.
The dye change… Do they feel like they have too many players? Currently you can get dyes to drop, you can get them with laurels and from black lion chests. Unless they are going to take the RNG out of it I don’t support this change at all.
Ugh, nothing for sPvP for almost a month after taking the reward system out seems pretty stupid.
Yup…this pretty much confirms the total gem shop takeover that will happen to GW2. All these QoL things that we have been asking for since early beta are going to be turned into cash shop schemes. Its sad, lame, and totally a lie from what the devs were pushing pre-release.
Well, they could have done something spectacular, but instead they sold out, got greedy and totally lost my business.

If this feature is coming on 04/15, you have time for 25x daily laurel + 1x monthly laurels = 35 laurels, or 70 dyes, so don’t worry ^^

“Dye unlocks now come only from crafting and from the gem store.”
One pack is two and a half euros. A subscription is around thirteen euros, give or take a few euros depending on the game and possible discount for making a bulk purchase. So for that amount I can choose to obtain five packs (adding up to 25 common and 10 uncommon or rare) in GW2 or get full access to all items in another game for a month.
Uh-huh.

Wildstar offers 250+ account bound dyes and you only have to pay $15 a month and that includes all the features not just the dyes (such as teleport your whole party to you every 60 minutes ($15 for a single person on an 8 hour CD in GW2 China)).
You would need to play Wildstar a full year in order to spend the same amount of money just to use all the dyes in this new dye system in GW2…

yup, it’s pretty outrageous. In comparison – unidentified dye on the trade post – 30 silver, 100 gems – 10 gold. No matter how it will be priced it will drive the price up of the dyes considerably. I expect an outrage on the forums when it happens and either it getting fixed or a bunch of players leaving.
It would have been fine if it was introduced this way when the game released. However taking something that’s currently free from everyone and adding it to payed content only? That’s unacceptable.
