I have one stupid question relating this daily/monthly AP limit.

When we have reach daily 10 000 AP and monthly 5 000 AP, do we still get xp reward from these dailies and monthlies even we don’t get any AP’s from them?

It is good way to me level up my alts when dailies are rewarding xp points too. So do we still have xp reward from dailies/monthlies even we don’t get any AP’s anymore?

I am sorry about my bad English.

Not good enough. ArenaNet need to remove achievement points completely. They’re just a poor substitute for actual meaningful gameplay.

It’s just another currency. No more reason to remove it than gold, karma, laurel, badges, dungeon tokens, …

Not really; ArenaNet currently use the carrot of achievement points as a cheap alternative to hard work.
Instead of having to develop deep, meaningful, lasting content, they create several easily developed scenarios then make players repeat them ad infinitum by dangling lots of achievement rewards in front of them.
This way they can make content that players of any other non-MMO would play once for maybe a quarter of an hour and stretch it to consume hours, all in order to get more achievement points.
And sure, you can say this kind of content is optional. But as every single newly released activity has achievement points associated with it, players who opt out of such cynically designed content end up not playing at all because there’s nothing FOR them to play.

Please note that due to restrictions placed on my account, I am only allowed 1 post per hour.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.

The monthly cap will also require 4 years to reach.

Are you kidding me? No, it won’t.

During the month of March, you could earn 70 monthly AP. Divide 5000 total points by 70 points per month and it would require 71 months at 70 points per month. Could you please educate me as to why you don’t think it will take four years to reach the limit for monthly AP?

Also, if a player earns 10 Daily AP per day then to reach the max daily limit would require 1000 days, which is nearly 3 years. I’m betting less than 1% are earning points at that rate.

To approximately 99% of the players out there, these limits are meaningless,

The only prob i have with this is that I sacraficed quite a lot of gold farm for this (16k ap), and from now on forward, gold is the only way forward. AP’s won’t mean that much. More so, If i complete all permanent achieves in a rush now, the game will become boring, and feel empty wich is exactly why i keep a lot of them untouched. I’m mainly curious about living story, how this will evolve.

For instance, i did every daily since february, but skipped living story, wintersday (about 80 AP?). If i knew this, i would have turned that around. A bit more warning would have been fair.

But yeah i remember, saying no against new spvp dailies, so I got some relief now. Yesterday story dungeon, I TOTALLY skipped, cause those are a drag for me. Today I will skip costume brawl (i had to guest non stop, to find someone to do this daily). Good stuff. I just hope Anet minds that if they remove dailies from AP hunters ‘progression’, that there must be other (permanent) stuff to takes it place.

But all in all good update. I mainly did all this AP hunting for the passive bonuses, as I like them, and this update, doesn’t remove them, I still keep the bonus i build up, so I loose nothing.

Legendary weapons can be hidden now!
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

1. PvP monthlies
2. there was a time in the beginning of the game, when both dailies and monthlies were worth more AP than they are now.
Which is why the top leaderboard people are almost at the 10k AP daily limit already.

Wonder what will be next – capping AP points from LS?

I like the change!
As a completionist i need to finish daily points to 10k and then i will be very happy to no more using time for doing all dalies.
Thank you Anet.

P.S.
Perfect solution for me?
Achievements – yes, points for them -no.
Rewards (radiants, hellfires, gold, gems) should be for doing big permament sets of events, similar to wvw S1/S2, but also in open world and PvP.

I think its a bit ridiculous that people that enjoy playing the game and doing dailys will eventually lose out on the AP they need to unlock chests because “completionists” don’t have the self control to stop doing something they don’t enjoy and they feel the need to dictate how people should play and be rewarded.

I don’t think it’s because of the completionists. It’s more likely Anet just doesn’t want to make radiant/hellfire chest and pants.

And by “eventually” lose out on the AP, you of course mean years and years from now…

I have not missed one laurel since they released the daily, and I’m around 4k AP from daily. So, basically I will hit the 10k number, in, I dunno, another 1.5yrs.

4k from dailies so far
1.5k from monthlies
6.5k from permanent

So basically, if I stopped doing ANY other AP hunting, and just focused on my 10k and 5k cap, I will have ~22k AP. Now factor in all of the WvW AP, LS AP, PvP AP, tournament AP, mini game AP, and all of the normal AP.

Are you really, honestly complaining about this cap? You should be well on your way to 25k AP by the time you hit it, unless your only source of AP has been dailies and monthlies, in which case, time to start playing the actual game instead of focusing on one area to get your AP. Plus the dailies are still there. A couple of years from now you can still do your daily, you just won’t get AP from it. Big deal.

True AP hunters get AP from everywhere, not just from daily/monthly grinding.

Anet wants there to be a max possible AP to hit. No one is losing out on any AP. They set the rules. If they’ve decided that 30k AP, or whatever the absolute maximum happens to be, is the maximum possible AP obtainable, then that is your new goal. That is what you work towards. That’s it. End of issue. No more infinite AP sources.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

No, I don’t mean years and years from now. I myself have about 5k in daily, 1K in monthly, and 9k in perma (I have done all temp content since beta). Some people in my guild have even more than this in daily that and we are only at 15k AP. We are not even on the leader-boards, people have ahead of us have much more AP in daily.

So lets actually do the math… even give a handicap and lets forget about the PvP daily points. There are 12 achievements a day that you can normally get in the span of 2 hours.

Starting from 5,000 flat left to get today

5000/12 = 416 and 2/3rd days which is 1.15 years. Remember this does not include PvP dailys in which case it would be even less. So yes it will effect some of us in the coming year. And yes people have much more than 5k daily AP.

Other than that… all your statements were non-information unsubstantiated authoritative statements.

You do not work for Anet.

You do not speak on thier behalf.

Playing doing the dailies can be earned by playing “the actual game”. Sorry if I am not in such a big hurry to grind out kill 5,000 of every monster type and get 5,000 kills on every weapon because that is literally all that there is left for me to do. Its the daily that is the only thing left that is rewarding at all.

Rather be out doing dungeons, fractals, WvW, and sPvP. I was under the impression that this was the actual game.

“There will be a limit of 10,000 daily and 5,000 monthly achievement points”

This confuses me greatly. I have a very few times gotten 10 points for daily, usually about 7 or 8. 10,000?

http://imgur.com/o3xVbiQ

is Total points mate, look at the picture for a reference.

It’s not total points. According to the blog post about it, it’s a cap of earning a max of 10,000 AP from just doing dailies, and 5,000 AP from just doing monthlies. So after you each the 10,000 Ap cap from doing daily activities, you won’t be able to earn APs from completing daily activities.

Also, PvE and PvP dailies and monthlies will be merged, and no longer seperate catagories.

Dislike this change.

I am not in the camp that has reached max I will admit. Have only been in game 5-6 months now and only gotten to 5.4K so far. Typically knock out 8-14 a day on top of other activities. But I have really enjoyed the dailies and monthlies as they were. Would love to have seen weeklies. It made an addictive fun side game of doing things I might already do and it pushed me to do that much more versus logging. To me that encouraged variety. I saw dailies as a way for Anet to encourage people to try other activities. Now agree that the majority in the middle won’t care about this change. Another group will still do them for the other rewards, but only as many as needed. It’s the ones that want caps versus those that don’t. To me caps limit a game and once you hit limits you start to wander off into what’s next. Not having dailies will not encourage me to go seek others, it will just devalue APs in general. These AP were optional so if people didn’t like going for them, they could just skip them already. If people were feeling they ‘had’ to do them, that’s the player’s issue. Its a game, you should only be doing things you enjoy, but you shouldn’t have limited other peoples activities. I don’t run dungeons, but am not calling out for dungeons to be closed, I just don’t do them most of the time. It’s also the concept of caps. GW2 has vast objectives to reach, the more that you give people that they can stop and say, there done, never again, the sooner people say I did all that, time to move on. I enjoy the concept that there are thousands of WvW levels. Don’t care if I ever hit the end, I have further to go. It’s about the journey to some. It is what it is and you can’t make everyone happy, but since this is feedback this was a -1 vote for this change. Good hunting.

GW1 is still going 8 years after release, some MMO’s are breaking 15 years. This is going to suck after a while just relying on the Living Story for your AP points after you’ve completed all the permanent ones and the daily/monthly.

I’m tired of limitations being placed on my play time and MY enjoyment. I don’t care about any of you and what you consider ‘fun’. I log on to do dailies and a couple world events and for living story releases. Occasionally for farming to maybe one day casually get an ascended something-or-other. I’m not an AP farmer but I’m 1/3 of the way to my daily max in 1.5 years(which is wrong since they introduced it long after release), have half of the permanent ones, and at least half the living story ones.

All of the permanent ones… lol. Have you even seen what you need to do for WvW achievements?

I do like the ideas of continuing to have daily/monthly but just lower the amount that can be awarded per month (cap dailies per month not total).

But even better agree that caps at 15k daily and 3k monthly make WAY more sense than 10k/5k/

I don’t mind them putting a cap on dailies and monthlies but I really wished it increased everyday by 5 AP.

I was really hoping they would introduce full sets of hellfire and radiant armour but I looked at my achievements and after I reach the daily cap the only AP I can really get are tournament wins in PvP, a few activity ones, giant slayer (kitten that), a few off hand weapons, and the ridiculous WvW ones. With living stories I can probably get the second set of boots but I don’t see them making legs and bodies for radiant and hellfire.

I was lucky to almost get 400 ap in the past 2 months going from 9,000 to 9,479 ap. So i guess these achievemnt chests(every 500 points) will be a lot harder to get if you can’t get the points by the end of the month? or are they just being phased out..
