I just wanted to share a huge issue that my guild is having. we are one of the largest guilds on FC, and we like to give our members as much as possible, that way they can enjoy the game to the fullest. For this reason, we offer guild missions twice a week.

Sadly the magaserver system is making this extremely difficult. It was not easy in the first place to organize 50-100 people and get them all to the right zones for Bounties, Puzzles, Challenges, and Rushes. Now it is next to impossible. This is leading to a lot of really disappointed people who can’t get their guild commendations or even generally have a good time. This is made even more difficult, because sometimes there are 2-3 guilds doing the same bounty. It is really disheartening to see how frustrated everyone is getting during guild events.

Doing missions is a huge part of what we do as a guild. We work overtime to create a sense of home in FC, this new system is literally obliterating all of our hard work. This makes me really sad, because we have worked really hard to make our little low pop server a fun place to play. And we have busted our butts to give our guildies a fun place to play TOGETHER.

On top of destroying our servers identity, it is also hurting our guild. The system is making it impossible to recruit. So to summarize, it hurts the server, the guild, and the players.

I know I am just a consumer, and I am not the one programing and designing new content to make this game awesome, that’s you guys. But that being said, its obvious that the new system is broken and terribly flawed. Fixing low population servers with this megaserver system is like performing a root canal with a jackhammer. Its majorly overkill and ultimately causes more damage than what was there in first place.

Maybe guilds can create their own instance, or even the ability to turn off megaservers. Just please, don’t leave it the way it is!

Thanks.`

I can’t agree with this enough

Why do not implement an Underflow instead of this Megaserver?
The only problem (to us players) was the fact that the casual guy exploring Tyria, in many servers, felt alone during most of his journey, but organized guilds had no problems at all.

Make this and everybody will be happy:
i.e. You travel to a new map and this pop-up appears:
Right now this map is sparsely populated. Would you like to find more players to play with from other servers?
a) No. (stay on your current server)
b) Yes. (move to an underflow)

Revert all to the old system and implement this.
No World Bosses schedule, no problems with guild missions or contested wp, etc.
Plus the casual guy/new player would still be able to find people to play with even if on his server a specific map is dead.

The megaserver has now made it impossible to talk amongst the server about what’s going on in WvW. I was in Vigil Keep and saw players from the servers we were actually fighting, as well as other servers. The guild names area big give away. ANeT, you’ve truly messed up. We have enough problem with our own trolls dropping merchants in the WvW portals(yeah, we can use the UI) to stop quick access on reset night. Now a rival server will just have one of their own waiting and watching which guilds are going where and they can pull those stunts on their own. Again, ANeT, you truly messed up.

Well dispite all the concerns that were raises specially the last days with guild missions and more large group coordinated events, all maps are megaserver now. Even those that hardly need it at all (when is queensdale ever too empty to get anything done, even on my smaller server there are always players there)

The comments of last week about the trouble with megaservers for guildmissions or any large group that you try to do things with in a coordinated way should have been a indication to have a second look at the system and adress these problems, that already rose in lower populated maps. Instead this was pushed on, without even writing it in the patch notes…..

Don’t get me wrong, megaservers are a nice addition and great for if you play with a small group (1 party) most of the time. However if you are playing with a large group of players its a BIG problem atm. Also any large event drawing in lots of players at the same time (yes i’m looking at world bosses here) cause trouble since maps fill up so fast that even parties can get spread over multiple copies. And then i’m not even talking about how much ‘fun’ most worldbosses are now with them being taken out in < 3 min by one giant full map full of players, most of you don’t even know. World bosses also used to be meeting places for server communities but now these are spread over X number of mega map copies…

Please fix the issues first before pushing such a big impacting system forward, like was done here

I play as a party of one in a guild of 1 and Megaserver is not great for me.

I haven’t actually seen any of my friends or people from my server, the maps are completely over run by random people.
there are trolls everywhere and the Tower of Babel is not funny.

I have never felt this alone in the game, which is ironic because people are like ants- everywhere.

So the reason why people chose different servers is because they wanted particular types of people to play with, they chose Piken Square or Tarnished Coast if they wanted to roleplay. Here in the EU they chose a language server if they wanted to play with people who spoke that language.

That choice is now meaningless; Anet has decided you’ll randomly play with whomever their glitched, rubbish, face saving system puts you with. But don’t worry if you can’t understand each other, they’ll just auto-block any language difference.

Why in the name of kitten, did they choose to roll this out when they were going on vacation? Why have they rolled this out with zero communication to us over that period, then come back to work and despite our protests and concerns, carried on rolling it out?

Do they not give a kitten about their customers? Did EA buy them out when we weren’t looking? Or is it just NCSoft caring more about their precious Asian market and the China release, to give two jots about us?

Anet, for all practical purposes, has just pulled off the biggest server shutdown/merge I have ever seen, without taking the bad press for announcing the fact.

Unfortunately, we aren’t even left the option of keeping server communities “in exile” as can be done in a conventional server merge.

My server is now a BL in a wvw map. The sole Fort Aspenwood “city” is the Citadel in WvW.

I’ve logged into DR, and the first thing I’ve seen are people arguing and insulting, while prior to this the map chat was always calm and polite. I’m from Piken Square.

I asked in the map chat who was from there, only three people answered me ‘Piken’. What happened to the ’You’ll be merged with people of your server/friendlist/guild’ thing? I can’t recognize a single name or guild name, all those people I’m crossing the path of are people I never met, and surely don’t want to considering their animosity or trolling level. And it’s only early noon in Europe, I can’t imagine what will happen during the evening.

I actually can’t understand WHY cities are megaserved. The megaserver was the excuse to make the game feel more alive, for world bosses and game content. I can agree with that, I don’t mind at all crossing the path of other players when I’m leveling. But why, in the name of God, why the cities have to be megaserved? They have no world event, no world boss, no skillpoint. There’s NO REASON for them to be megaserved other than for Anet to say ‘Look, our game is full of players, come and join in!’ to lure naive customers in and rob them from the content of their wallet.

Give us back our cities at least, and stop steamrolling the whole world map into this megaserver stuff that you obviously never tried to fix.

some of the chats between players who played against each other in wvw are downright nasty in gendarren at this point … just logged into two people flat out going at it

Like I posted in the other thread, everything I complained about is laid out by others here

crappy guild runs
crappy pve
no server community
etc etc

can we please admit we made a mistake here and roll it back? I think most players guested TC or other servers when they wanted a full map anyway (which is why guesting was free) … and it seemed to work great

Is this some kind of ruse to make players think the game is thriving?

Personally I never saw anything wrong with having some zones be somewhat empty. It makes the game feel larger, rather than, say, a crowded shopping mall where everyone is always trying to push their way in to the best stores.

Before megaservers, even some of the low-pop servers were still able to complete large-scale events because they organized properly. If we are going to constantly cater to the lowest common denominator here then you are gong to be left with nothing but people who want everything handed to them on a silver platter.

And the option to guest to a populated word to do the big events was present for those who wanted a Teq kill. I know I did, and plenty more did, guest to Desolation for a Teq or even champ farming (since Pikens can’t seem to coordinate without three different trains).

I’m hugely disappointed by megaservers tbh:
- no more golden tags;
- no more server community and events;
- huge mess for guild missions;
- huge mess for Orr temples, how are we supposed to know now when an event is active
- waypoints costs
- nodes changing every day….
- trolls everyyyywhere, ppl complaining, almost insulting (!) ppl about their languages
- no more WvW communication
- I never felt so lonely in the game now

When I first read about Mega, I thought it would take time, to let people getting used to it, and above all to see their reaction and feelings. But no no, you just rushed the implementation, leaving us quite overwhelmed and not taking into account our opinion…
I really hope you will come up with some solutions : maybe give us back non mega cities (or at least one map where a server can meet x.x), instanced guild missions ?

I cannot fathom any reason to mega the cities except to give the illusion of high population.

Every MMO released has had the issue of new players coming into the game and assuming low population simply because people had moved on to higher content. ANET seems to be trying to spoof this.. but at the expense of a lot of collateral damage.

Time will tell if the New Acct > Veteran Acct equation works out for them. It hasn’t for any other publisher.

Because i was forced in a map (as german) full of Spanish and french ppl not even speaking english and they had turned the chatfilter for only theyr language on.

So Teqi failed hard even there was enough ppl there so now i’m supose to wait 5 hours for the next teqi?

This Megaserver system should be turned off at big Worldbosses and keep the old system like it was.

This has probably been said alot of times already, but this thread is so huge I’m just gonna give another voice to it.

We recently did our guild missions, puzzles, rush etc etc etc, and everytime it took us almost an hour before people were on the same map. I’m pretty sure that’s not how it’s supposed to work, and that there’s some huge tweaking needed here. people had to pop in and out of maps, whilest llooking for ou tags so they’d know whether they were in the right map or not, all the while people who were right had to wait. please come up with a way to fix this, because for me personally, I’d rather revert to the old system than keep using this, as for me and alot of my friends it created more nuissance than it solved

This, so much this. For a feature designed to provide more players in areas, I`ve never felt so alone. And any inclination I might have to help other players is now nil.

Sense of community blasted into oblivion? check

Ability to gather with friends on maps without being forced to see old trolls form different servers? Gone. Check

Ability to just chill in PvE content without having to turn off map chat for ALL areas due to massive flamer wars? Gone. Check.

Even MORE gold spammers in chat? check.

Even less incentive to help newer players? check.

I`d say Anet did what they set out to.

All my sentiments echo’ed in this thread already.

Since the mega server patch i havent been able to find temple of Balthazar open in 3 days of constant checking.

Before i would be able to have a quick look at temple status, then guest on a server that had it open, or if it wasnt open, check when the event was coming up, and help with the event.

With no way to check when the events are coming up (or look at a timetable / convert to your local time – only to find its not up for some amount of hours…) i feel this is a massive step backwards in the game.

Personally I feel Mega Servers are simply a terrible alternative to closing down some servers. It simply seems like a clever way to avoid bad press but at the expense of the death of community.

A.Net would have gotten bad press for closing X number of servers down and giving everyone on those servers a free transfer to any remaining server of their choice, but it would have solved the population issue without destroying everything else the Mega Server has ruined. You’ve essentially punished your existing players to avoid looking bad for potential new ones. The problem is, if you upset your current players, you lose them referring their friends to this game.

I really think the better choice would have been to close down servers and just give everyone from those servers a free move. They would have been upset they lost the community they built, but they would at least have a chance to join a new community that felt similar to their old one. Now everyone is without a community and just thrown together in one big mess. Not to mention this did nothing to solve WvW’s population problems and closing servers would have actually had a pretty significant affect on that. I really think this issue was addressed in the wrong way. Bite the bullet and close servers, do what is right for the game and stop trying to sugar coat and hide the issue.

I have a question…
I currently am not playing the game, but you are placed into a zone with people from other regions and servers. Theoretically, you can be placed in a pve zone with people from a rival server that you are battling in WvW that particular week.

I can’t imagine the flame wars, the trolling, the griefing, the immature name calling that must be going on. True, some of us are adults. But I can definately see people abusing the ability to troll people from opposing servers they are playing. I.E. the competitiveness of WvW starts to drip into PvE and could make the PvE zones very toxic and uncomfortable to be in.

I bet arenanet spent a pretty penny on megaservers, so I guess theres no turning back.

I understand the need for megaserver in pve maps where the population is low. I recently levelled 2 characters (pre-patch) and found certain maps quite humdrum and most certainly empty. But the insane amount of people now doing world bosses is ridiculous. I’ve never had any problem with lag, rendering or low fps but this is abysmal. A few things that really concern me:

- Too many people. It has gone from a decent amount for world bosses, to far, far too many (I understand that this might not have been the case on all servers).

- Orr temples are utterly destroyed. There is no way to track what is going on. I assume that Cursed Shore is now part of the megaserver, because it was just an ugly mess this morning. No communication at all. I had to turn off my english filter to see that it was just French people speaking. In fact it had just the opposite effect, it was like a ghost town. I suppose because no one knows when temples are starting now.

- Waypoints. Oh my kitten, waypoints. They are dreadful.

Yes, megaserver was needed in a handful of pve maps, but please do something about Orr temples, waypoints and the over the top amount of people that turn up to world bosses. Maybe its just me, but I kind of liked not having my computer want to implode whilst doing something like fire ele (yeah, yeah get a new computer…i’m a student and i’m poor and I have no idea how the insides of computers work).

Just my feedback, anyway. Probably worthless, but i’ve felt really disheartened about the game today.

There were some people derailing train and swearing at people telling them that trains make new players crap and they already have to put up with new players etc so why make it worse. It’s bad, really bad and the flaming can be over anything and everything. I feel bad for new players because they’re getting bombarded by idiots spewing nonsense 24/7.

I want my lovely server and our community back

This. I log in and I have to party up with people from my own guild, people I’ve been RPing with for how long now? -Just- to get onto the same server as them. Everyone that logs on has to ask for a party so we can try and RP a little.

This is seriously ridiculous, Anet. You claimed we’d get put together with guildies, friends, yadda yadda. All I’ve seen is lollers, and for the FIRST time in all the years I’ve been on GW2, I’ve been getting whispers from gold sellers. -A lot- of whispers.

You tried to fix something that was never even broken, and now you’re just chasing away people who used to enjoy the game.. I can’t even say I’m angry anymore. I’m just sad. This entire patch has completely screwed over the players, and you’re not even listening to what we’re saying.. I hope you’ll eventually come to your senses and fix this, because right now, I don’t even want to play anymore..

For me, the biggest problem with the Megaserver system would be a complete lack of support for players when an random event, such as a disconnect, occurs.

Today i had a very bad experience during the Tequatl the Sunless fight. After fighting for 10 minutes on really organised server we brought the boss down to ~30% hp, but a sudden dc forced me to reconnect. And immagine my reaction once i found myself in an instance where the boss had over 95% health with <5 minutes before the event ends…
Needless to say that i recieved no reward for my attempt, which left a bad aftertaste of the “oh-so-fancy” megaserver feature.

Would it really be so hard to make ~2-3 minute long “spot reservation” so that players who loose connection or have their game turned off can reconnect and still recieve the reward for their hard work? (don’t mistake with people who move to other map)

You are aware that the exact same thing happened before MegaServers as well, right?
If you disconnected from an organized try on one of the big bosses you would almost certainly be put in an overflow when you got back in, so that have literally nothing at all to do with the MegaServer changes.

People were saying the game / zones were dead before megaservers. And now you people say they are too alive. Make up your mind.

Well there’s a difference between having like 5 people on a map…and having a 100.

how about having a soft cap of 40 people, and to join into the map then you need to use the join feature.

Ok it doesnt help majorly for those who want to sol, but it helps for teq/wurm organisation.

2nd, have tick box options, to favour you in one megaserver over another.
solo: ..means server has soft cap of 10 people say, hard cap 35.
rp: ash others have suggested, so cobines them, without having to be in guild and what not.
Including language options, but those would only move you to your ‘own’ megaserver (say german), if there was 40 other germans logging in too. This may not happen very often, but agin, would probably help for the likes of teq/wurm kills.

During a CDI, I proposed a system that encouraged players to complete dynamic event content (ones that launched with the game, just your regular run of the mill DEs) in any zone he/she wanted. The reward for completing an event should be adjusted to be more than 1.5 silver and 350 karma. However, the server as a whole would receive benefits as well, similar to the server wide benefits that WvW provides.

The system would work similar to World vs World. The more dynamic events a server completes worldwide in Tyria, the more bonus/benefits/reward the entire server gets regardless what they are doing. Increased rewards and bonuses to events that end in the server/players holding a strongold, a camp, etc from enemy NPCs. So if the enemy NPCs hold more camps, towns, strongholds, etc than the players, the less reward. We would need to zone into areas that needed help, and complete the dynamic events and re-take the zones back from enemy NPCs.

Example: I log in and see that most zones are fairing well via some GUI except Fireheart Rise and Timberline Falls are taking some hits and falling into enemy NPC hands. So I choose to zone into fireheart rise because I haven’t been there in a while. I complete a bunch of events, some take back camps and towns from NPCs, some do not. Overall, the server score increases, thus our benefit as a server overall.

This, my friends, is a living and breathing world. Where our choices and our actions matter a hell of a lot more than the living story ever did. It also fills up the lesser populated zones a bit more without people from other servers and regions clogging it up.

Why they did not go this route is beyond me, because it seems like a far better, less intrusive and less controversial way to breathe life into abandoned zones.

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.

Signal boost from another (and more bitter) thread. Not sure if it’s been proposed yet, but I’m not sifting through 22 pages to find out.

From Taygus.4571:
What they need is a much lower soft cap, so people can only get in via the “join” feature. That might help.

For example, if the server population cap is 150, drop it to around 120, then let the other 30 slots be join-ins. I’d probably wager more toward 100+50, to give large guilds the space to call in guild members for boss attempts.

Many alts; handle it!

This might have been the case with very high populated servers such as Desolation for EU (used to be almost impossible to get onto a main map before or during big events), but not necesarly with either Bottom-end events or less populated servers. Before megaserver system got introduced it was at least possible to join the same map after reconnecting, but now you don’t even have any idea where you’ll end up. In most extreme cases you can be disconnected from the server where prevents are half done and reconnect 1 minute later to a server that already killed a boss (everyone tend to leave once boss is dead so a lot of free spots open there).

I’m hugely disappointed by megaservers tbh:
- no more golden tags;
- no more server community and events;
- huge mess for guild missions;

I feel like I’ve been evicted from the server I paid to transfer to.
Zones are horribly over-crowded, with sudden drops in fps when a zerg to kill something runs past.
Today I had to re-log three times to be able to rez and help npcs for the heart – they were all alive and kicking on the first two servers I got sent to.

Is there anywhere (excluding wvw) where our server and only our server can hang out?

I have to agree with this and all the items listed here. At this point, I don’t see anyone I know on the maps I use to frequent. Note the “use,” because since the mega server – It’s become quite boring.

Hope you fix it soon – because playing mmo’s is a large part about the community and if they take away the communities, you take away a large part of the game.

Megaserver – great idea for smaller maps, horrible idea for largely everything else.

Most of the time the MegaServer seems fine, love seeing more people wandering around Orr and I’ve done events there that I’ve never seen completed before (I’m looking at you King Crab)

The ONLY problem I’ve seen is on the weekend when everyone is doing guild missions. This has probably already been mentioned but I don’t have time to read 22 pages….

We had to burn two bounties just to get everyone credit because we couldn’t get everyone to the bounty in the same instance of the map before we ran out of time.

If we were actually trying to kill all of the bounties on the list it would be a horrible terrible no good thing. Just trying to get one bounty down was bad enough.

Most guilds tend to do their missions at the same time on the weekends because that’s when we can get most of our members together. Something needs to be done to ensure every guild member gets put into the same version of the map ESPECIALLY for guild missions.

Now that Orr has become megaserver too, how are we expected to gather the tons of required dragonite for ascended armor / weapons ???

Before, we could check if the temples events were active or not, and then go there to do them.

Now, it is impossible. Worse than just making it impossible to see, with the megaserver, there is so much people on the maps that the temples are almost never contested, so impossible to loot dragonite from them (or do the events required for the new traits either…).

EU maps are a mess. People talk 4 or 5 different languages. Germans, particularly, don’t make any effort to speak english and if you ask them to, they start making fun of you (still in german).

For NA servers maybe megaservers work because you all speak english but for Europe it is making things very difficult.

The megaserver is a “mega” disappointment for me. My problems:

- Orr is constantly open with no way to check when/where it’s actually closed so I can open it for dragonite (previously I could use up to guest on 2 servers and all the temples on different toons for a ton of dragonite). This is a major disappointment – why did you have to make orr on megaserver? The way it works now only one group of people opens the Orr temples with no way to check where or when (thanks to event API now being useless), and any other groups have now nowhere to guest to open the temples for dragonite because it’s all on megaserver.
- World boss timers, especially for karka queen and Tequatl, alienate players who can’t conveniently show up to their designated times. Furthermore, it used to be fun and fast to go on a train visiting all the world events in succession – like from Maw to Wurm to Behe to Jormag (etc.) utilizing guesting when they’re all up. Now you have to wait an arbitrary 15 minutes in between events – that’s a lot of downtime and very boring imo. I stopped doing multiple world events in succession altogether after this patch.
- I uncontested a dungeon, immediately went inside and completed a path, then my party got put inside ANOTHER megaserver shard which had the dungeon contested. That’s unacceptable to me.
- I can’t say whether leveling is better as you meet more people, but I will say this – leveling alone used to be easy and efficient as nobody was killing all the mobs before I was there or stealing/upscaling all the events.

Benefits? I’m not seeing any. The populated PvE servers like Deso or Gandara always had a large train doing world bosses, and if you wanted a small group ‘private-like’ server you could always guest to Vabbi, etc.

I’m sorry Anet, I know you spent time working on this feature to improve gameplay, but at this point my only recommendation for it is to completely remove it from the game.

Yes exactly, and just adding to that I think medium, or low-population, servers are something that people do look for in an mmo. I know from experience that people (including myself) often prefer to play on a server that is of mid/low-population.

Personally I am feeling utterly overwhelmed and disheartened by the overly-crowded maps and zergs everywhere and have always gone out of my way to avoid them (guesting, time of day I play) Now my choice has been taken away.

The idea of the megaserver is great, but there has to be a middle ground here.

It’s true, I’m not dangerous. But these golems are!

Well, I have somewhat mixed feelings about the Megaservers:
Starting with the positive things – after a longish break from GW2 I returned in December last year with a main character that still had lots of things to do. Exploring the map made me feel very much like playing a single-player computer game, as in the areas beyond the starting area there was hardly anybody to randomly encounter (and to help with most non-world events).
Doing the same thing with my alts in the last couple of days has been a very different and much more pleasant (and multiplayer) experience, though even then the crowds gathering at world events felt somewhat strange.
On the downside the loading screens seem endless, particularly at log-on and in the starter areas the chance encounters with fellow guildies had been much rarer than before.

Now with the recent update to include all maps in the megaserver setup my feelings mix a lot more against the Megaserver idea…
For one, the gathering with fellow guildies just does not work anymore (unless you taxi into the city most of them ended up in) and the chat option to mute anyone who doesn’t use the game client in the language you are using just does not work – at least not in Europe (where quite a number of people might be in an international and thus English-speaking guild while happily running their game client in their native non-English language). And – yes – I want to SEE my guildies gathering in the same place, so Guild Chat is no solution either.
I hate to even imagine how our guild missions will work (or probably not work) with megaserver…

So in my opinion the Megaserver thingy needs some more tuning to work smoothly.
One spontaneous idea (not sure if that is even remotely feasible, since obviously I have no clue about current server population nor the programming issues involved):
An option to shift from ‘social’ to ‘explore’ mode in the game client, where ‘social’ would NOT catapult you to some random megaserver but rather use the old system (overflow only if the map gets to full) while ‘explore’ mode would (upon next zoning) place you in a megaserver map with a higher chance to find other players (even if they don’t speak your language, or come from another server – potentially even your WvW ‘enemies’). Both modes should, however, attempt to keep parties in the same map (with contradicting ‘mode-choices’ one of the modes could be prioritised in that case).
I guess for some lower-populated servers this might have to entail some form of merging, but I guess as long as the designated server languages remain intact, people wouldn’t really mind that form of merging too much.
