Feedback/Questions: Transmutations
I imagine gem store. If you look at the picture of the new wardrobe in the blog, there’s a tag next to the transmutation cost saying “buy more”.
Yes, all of the above sounds logical.
However, T-stones were also originally in the Gem Store. So the real question that needs answering here is…what will be the gem prices for the new T-charges?
Will they be identical to the existing T-stone prices?
I think the cost would be the same as the crystals, not the stones.
That’s not the real question. The real question is will the stones still be dropping like crazy from daily chests. My guess is no.
That doesn’t change anything for lvl 80 characters, of course, since the crystals don’t drop either.
So happy that transmutation stones will finally be useful.

You must have been lucky, cause I think I got maybe two from dailies in the past 2-3 months.
What I’m still curious on is whether or not we’re still gonna get charges when we complete maps.
Please give us a keyring…

The crystals do drop from doing the daily. It’s on a 0.26% chance according to the wiki.
Key farm, you’ll get crystals aplenty.
Will transmutation charges cost $10 USD for 75 post-patch, or should I wait to hoard them and risk getting screwed over when they actually cost $10 for 100 or something to the effect?
Great, they’ve finally implemented what a lot of people have been pining after for ages, yet they’ve also cynically monetised it.
This system and its equivalents are COMPLETELY FREE in other MMOs such as DCUO.
They almost had me back and playing again with this, but they had to go and screw it up with greed.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
I hope they price them lower than the current lvl 80 stones in order to promote even more switching. I’d think that would make them more money that way.
Since the Transmutation Charges act like Transmutation Crystals that are currently on the Gem Store for:
5/200 — 10/360 — 25/800
and considering they are removing the Transmutation Stones & Crystals from the GS (it’s implied), we can also assume that the level of the skins in process doesn’t affect how many Transmutation Charges it takes, thus we can also assume that they will be cheaper than Transmutation Crystals (due to not being level dependent).
I fully expect there to be a sale on Transmutation Charges as soon as this goes live to capitalize on the instant gratification shopper syndrome
If these are the current for level 80 Transmutation Crystals
5/200 = 1000 for 25
10/360 = 900 for 25
25/800 = 800 for 25
Then these should be the Transmutation Charge prices
5/180 = 900 for 25
10/320 = 800 for 25
25/700 = 700 for 25
When you get stones from map completion / daily you get 3 of them at a time, when you get Crystals you get one. So it’s not that hard to change the system.

This is my problem with transmutations. In the current system we know that because they’re reliant on gems it’s becoming harder and harder for players to change their looks without real world money due to the ever increasing cost of gems in gold. It’ll be the same but with a bit less faff. I’d imagine it’d also cost the same as the crystals so for under level 80s you’ll be paying more than before.

You’re making a massive assumption that they’ll reduce the price due to no longer being level dependent. Why would they?
Umm… what?
How would they have you back as a paying customer if you refuse to spend money on cosmetics? You do realize that there is no subscription, right?

It cost us money from the beginning, so nothing new on that front. All they have done with it’s current iteration only makes it easier to use by condensing all our skins in an easy to use wardrobe while freeing up a ton of bank space. Also allowing us to convert 3 stones to one crystal is a huge bonus to this user.
Color me happy with both this and the dye change for all my characters.
Yes, and that’s why I wrote ‘assume’ all over the place. WE can ASSUME they will do this for US or they can keep prices higher for THEM.
Personally I would rather it be lower or the same as the BL key prices but they may increase the prices above the Trans Crystals due to the account wide concept so the rich players have a gold sink and the poor players can use real money.

Came to the same conclusion. Unless Transmutation Stones and Crystals start dropping like rain from monsters, I don’t see this new feature changing much.
Where do you get the idea that we will get that many charges, from the blogpost it indicates you will get
1 charge for 1 transmutation crystal
1 charge for 3 transmutation stones
Basically, they could have had me back as a paying customer again, but through the callousness and obviousness of their monetisation strategies, they’ve lost all potential access to my money.
Treat me like a hapless mark and I’ll treat you like the near-criminal fraudster scum you are ArenaNet.
You realize that T crystals are one of the biggest moneymakers for Anet? if they remove it, and make all skins free, they’re basically doing away with a large chunk of their revenue.

You get 3 Stones from every map completion in the game. On the new system that would be 1 charge.
Time to start exploring in order to build up a stockpile of charges before everything goes live.
I’ll be doing map completions regularly going forward, PM me in game if you want to guest to DR and join me.
As long as they keep dropping for exploration, I’m happy with the change. Maybe now I’ll be seeing more people during my travels outside of Queensdale/FS/CS.

As a happy owner of 2 stacks of Transmutation Stones I must say that they are very very common and easy to acquire and it doesn’t require money in any form to pay for them.
Dailies, map completion all reward those rather frequently. Not to mention gold-to-gems conversion but let’s not go there.

I’m guessing that they won’t drop for map completion after the patch goes live. Up until now, you could only get the sub 80 transmuters from map completion (which is why I have 2 full stacks of them in my bank). They have to protect their money-making items because that’s (drum roll)… how they make their money.
Someone please verify that I am understanding the charges correctly:
Once you use a charge for a particular skin, that skin is, well, “charged” and can be used repeatedly without using another charge? The charges only need to be applied once per skin, correct?

Honestly, would like to see them make use of a gold price that gets automatically deducted from your wallet in the same way that the Copper-fed Salvageomatic works… or if they’re really evil – Karma fed.
This being said, I expect the same gem costs as the existing Transmutation Crystals.

No, once you equip or salvage a skin, a copy of it goes in your wardrobe.
To get it out of the wardrobe again you use a “charge” to apply the wardrobe skin to your current gear.

Nope. Every time you change the appearance of an item, it will use a charge.

Can’t tell if serious…
:\
Charging for purely cosmetic changes is the absolute LEAST sleazy way for a game company to make their money.

We definitely need some clarification on this one. It might be one way to revitalize so many maps…

Look, I have no problem with a developer’s need to make money, but there are better, less exploitative ways of doing it.
Hell, I’d even be happier if they charged for the initial copy of the skin to the wardrobe as long as every subsequent use was free.

But it’d make more sense to assume they’ll charge the current price for crystals as it offers the higher potential profit.
The question is simple, will they still be awarded for map completion? Gawds, I hope so, it might actually get some people to play in the currently abandoned 80% of Tyria. :>

I hope they are a bit (cheaper) but who knows.
Parenthesis cause it put the word kitten there in between my 2 words, lawl
I got a little sad when I read about the conversion of Transmutation stones; considering I’ve had well over 300 in my lifetime and thrown them all away (100 Potential Transmutations gone right there).
I don’t expect to be compensated as it’s my own fault for getting rid of them.
Question is; Will map completion still award some form of transmutation post patch or is this going to removed entirely; I won’t be too fussed if I can still get some form of transmutation credit from world completion as I still have 3 alts with under 25% Map Completion.
It’s nice and all that you make skins collectible, but I simply cannot agree with something, and that’s the 3:1 ratio of conversion.
My girlfriend and I explore outfit possibilities most of the time on our new toons, which results in alot of stones being used, but now you want me to waste the stones three times as fast?
Are we supposed to look ugly as butts until we’re at the endgame just because you decided to remove customization for lower level players? Because that’s what’s happening here from our perspective.
I’m not going to pay 3g 80s for each item I transmute with the new system, on a sub-80 character, because that’s what one charge is worth atm converted to gold (40 gems). heck, it’s most likely going to be even more expensive from now until a few weeks after release.
I am aware that price details on the charges are not yet released, but my best bet is that it’s going to be the same as it is now, or worse.
Besides being able to collect gear as skins now, I don’t see the point in changing transmutation stones/crystals.
Please make transmutation of gear under lvl 80 cost less than 1 charge somehow, because using 3 stones to change the look of ONE item on one of my sub-80s is kittening pathetic.
You have free preview of every single armor and weapon skin in the game, including any dyes you have unlocked, using the new wardrobe vault in the bank.
I shall bump this, for greater good. Nobody cares? :P

Actually we don’t know how this will work and you’re making a lot of assumptions. It’s entirely possible that one charge will change everything. There’s a preview window so you can see everything before you commit.
The thing is, we just won’t know until we have more info.
This was discussed in several of the other threads on the subject.
My opinion is that they will remove them from map exploration going forward since map exploration currently lets you transmute sub 80 gear and the new charges will let you transmute anything.
Better get your map clears done now, just to be safe.
The video implies that dying armour will also cost transmutation charges. Potentially controversial. Can anyone confirm?
This is also a concern of mine. I fear there’ll be no distinction between item level and thus a low level item would cost the same as a level 80 item to transmute. This wouldnt be a problem if they changed the transmute acquisition away from a focus on the gemstore due to the ever increasing cost of gems in gold. If it was just a fixed cost in gold that’s one thing but the fact that the amount of gold we’re paying for transmutes now is a lot more than a year ago doesn’t give me hope
Well it does say “Transmutation Stones can be converted at a three-to-one rate”, so maybe we don’t have to convert them?
I first read it the other way around, I thought each stone (thought those were the lvl80 ones) would be worth 3 charges, but now I see its the lvl<=79 ones and its three of those to one charge. Really disappointed with those now. Should have been 2:1 at the very least, not 3:1 ><.
Please give us a keyring…

Would be magical to get a straighforward answer to this one, hence the new thread. I mean, the silly distribution of players throughout the map is one of the bigger problems of the game, isn’kitten

From all of the images it looks like changing Dyes will total 0 Transmutation Charges every time, you just still need to click Apply to set the changes.

I’m pretty sure that you could see the wardrobe in action in the video, showing the price go up as he added to the list of gear to change.
