I wanted to get the aetherblade armor for my asura, but, when I wanted to preview the armor it gives me the male model armor.

I ask around and I am informed that this is how it is for asurans and charr females.

Anet, is this how it is supposed to be or is this just a bug?

That’s how Asuras and Charr work.

Female asura and charr always use the male armor models. It works that way for every single armor set.

I don’t know the reasoning about the Charr but I gather they didn’t want sexy armor on a character that looks childlike. So they made the female Asura wear male armor only.

Edit: not saying because this armor is sexy but its a general ruling they made iirc.

I would have bought the light set for my asuran mesmer had the female model used the humanoid female model version of the armor. I’ve been wanting her in a skirt for so long~!

The reason is because of lore.

Asura and Charr, both male and female are considered the same. There is no discrimination between the genders.

A female Charr is seen to be just as deadly, scary, cool, yada yada, as the male, they do the exact same work as a male charr do, they can do anything a male charr can, and vice versa.

Same with Asura.

That is why they do not have different clothing options, just to show that, that the genders have no meaning in their society.

I think it’s also because they have less sexual dimorphism, in particular neither asura or charr have breasts so their bodies are closer to the male models and the male armor is a better fit.

They don’t have to accommodate for breasts, and neither gender of either race are exactly “feminine” in lore, so it only makes sense that they would reuse the same armor models for females of those races as they do males.

You do know that game developers on occasion make up lore to justify and/or explain certain aspects of the game. It could be that they didn’t want female asura wearing risque armors, so they gave them male armor sets and said that gender roles in asuran society don’t matter.

Everyone knows large, intellectual foreheads and long ears are the most alluring feature; why would Asura want to expose their bodies…

It’s because they didn’t want them wearing risque armor. But it’s unfortunate that it’s the lazy route of across the board, rather than letting them use feminine armor’s that aren’t risque. Like these.

Didn’t want them to wear risque armor ? Male versions of certain armor have exposed nipples (except of course that Asura and Charr don’t have any).

They should have allowed female Asura and Charr to wear female version of armor that didn’t revolve around breasts or mini skirts, and give the male counterpart in those cases.

This is just one reason why I hate the gendered armour splits in GW2.
