Q:

Hi everyone

Is it forbidden to make a free account if you already own the game?

I’m kind of curious to see how things work, but I don’t want to break any rule.
While I don’t see anything bad in making a free account to try things out, I can see how this could be frowned upon (you get 2 character slots for free basically).

Any thoughts, or even better, official responses?

We’ve found in testing that it’s hard to read a list like this and know how it’s going to feel in action. All these changes are live today, so we invite you to see for yourself. Test with a free account and see that it’s the same Guild Wars 2 you know and love; test with a veteran account and confirm that the community is protected.

Sounds like a go-ahead to me.

You get 2 character slots, but these slots are not able to mail anything out (you can however receive mail).

If I got a f2p account and then a precursor dropped for it I would log out right then. Lol.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

You’d have to upgrade it to a full account. Maybe just wait until it goes on sale down the road or something. But depending on the pre cursor it would be worth upgrading.

My son played for about 3 hours on a f2p account. When he got his first Black Lion Key, he got a full Black Lion Claim Ticket.

Geeze!

Thank you all for answering. It does seem like it’s ok to try out a free account.

I don’t plan on spending hundreds of hours on it, so I’m not really worried about getting a precursor

I have one. Only annoying thing is needing a 2nd email address and dealing with overly complex passwords as you alternate between accounts. True you could include the password in the short cut but then it’s plain text and easily discoverable.

Keeps telling me that my acct must be validated, but I have no idea how to do this.

I don’t bother with a second account because then I would have to remember the passwords to both. I don’t even know my password. Every time I’m required to enter it in I end up resetting because remembering passwords is too complicated

Lol I had to do this a few times and I ran out of passwords that I knew/memorized. So now I’m using some incredibly random letters and numbers just because they don’t let you re-use passwords.
