7 Chests – nothing. But I am not gonna spend Gold/Money for gambling..

To everyone who complains: Guys, it’s a skin. If you take this so serious the time has come to quit this game for a week or so.. Kids don’t learn to abstain from something these days.

The skins are account bound.

Yeah, its probably because of things like the Christmas Weapons that were in the gem store, I don’t think they sold that well, but whenever something is in a black lion chest, sales of those explode.

I think they did it right with the Christmas weapons. I still got the keys a few times for a chance at a ticket but ended up buying a couple from the gem store. The problem with this is it wouldn’t have been surprising if their sales did not do as well if they had just made it chest only. I’m sorta hoping that they just put up the skins some point soon in the gem store. The question is how many people who spent loads already will be upset if they did that after the fact.

Just wondering if the fused weapon skin would overwrite the existing skin of your weapon?

I mean, if i like my current exotic weapon skin, if i consume the fused weapon skin, will it overwrite like transmutation?

Lets say above is not the case, then can I activate and de-activate the fused weapon skin as and when I like?

Sorry for the noob questions, never really tried these things, so am pretty curious.

That’s easy to answer. It means more keys will be sold since you have to buy gems to even try for them meaning less people just spending in game gold to purchase through the TP

I wish they would do the cosmetic shop like Tera did. Sell those items directly for one character, and for all chars at a higher price. And don’t make them limited time only.

Tera’s cash shop is filled with items and im sure that people buy them every day a lot more than people here buy gems. I don’t mind paying for a nicely looking item for a higher price ( i did buy a mount in tera for 30 bucks for all of my characters to have).

Spent $40 on gems today, got useless boosters and guild influence things. No tickets. Thank you ArenaNet, but no thank you. I don’t think we will be doing business together again.

Congrats to people who got their tickets so far! the skins look great!

It’s amazing how many of you complain about how they do weapon skins in BL Chests WHEN YOU PLAY THE GAME FOR FREE! My god, content doesn’t magically make itself.

No one is complaining about the weapon skins being for sale. But many people are complaining about the way Anet is selling the skins.

These are the first really good weapon skins since Halloween. And those Halloween skins were in the kittening chests too. Does Anet like kitten off their customers? This is just pure greed on Anet’s part.

I’m am willing to buy some of the weapon skins outright.

Of course Anet wants you to break out that platinum Visa and gamble away!! I love how the white knights of Anet will be protecting their precious company with defenses like “you dont need the skins anyways” and “you can use ingame gold”.
RNG for accomplishing a dungeon or event is one thing but making the skin available ONLY via BLC gambling is just bad.
BAD BAD BAD.

Actually it’s GOOD GOOD GOOD for business.

Remember this isn’t a sub-fee game, the fact that you can get these with gold instead of real money is generous enough. The game has to be supported somehow.

A little more info, I opened 47 boxes and got no ticket. I got 1 total makeover kit and 1 hair styling kit, though everything else was complete junk. Totally wasted money and effort, and now I’m just annoyed at the game. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from playing MMOs it’s that RNGs are horrible and do nothing but make players hate the parts of the game associated with them. Please provide a method for outright buying something if you’re going to make it money-exclusive, or at least let us trade them so the market can decide their value. I’d easily have dropped 100g on one of these skins, or maybe 1600 gems. As it is I’m just discouraged to support the game with my funds now that I know that I’m not going to get anything worthwhile or enjoyable out of it.

I stopped giving EA money. I love Mass Effect to death, but even after all those DLCs released and much temptation i am not giving them a cent. And i am not sorry. These skins are good enough to be bought directly.
Also having them saved like In Champions Online would be awesome too.

If they’re seriously comparing the Halloween gear to the Wintersday gear they’re doing it wrong. A wooden sword with a snowflake trail pales in comparison to a giant chainsaw that smokes and makes noise. Of course it won’t sell as well not even taking into consideration the fact that the one in the chests isn’t account/soulbound. I could understand the silly RNG for the Fused Weapons ONLY if they were salable on the TP but they aren’t. We can’t even say for certain if these items are a limited time offer and if they are it is certain that they aren’t seasonal and we won’t be seeing them available again after this content is done and over with. If you’re going to make them locked to an account you might as well let us pick and choose which one we want or just make the tickets purchasable out right. I didn’t pay a cent for the 400+ chests I gambled on, and seeing as I’m now down to 5 gold, I’d have no choice but to pay. If you want my money for this content that is the only way you’ll get it from me now :p

1 weapon skin token, charr backpiece, pink quaggan

How many gems would that be if bought outright? About 1500 to 2000 gems

I don’t consider these “hard” to obtain. They require either luck or lots and lots of money. Hard is a long, difficult quest chain with a reward at the end.

1 or 1000, does not matter. When RNG is involved all trys have the same difficult. It is equally difficult in each try. In this case extremely hard.

We do not play the game for free we bought it and I dare say many of us have spent quite a bit of money in the gem store. Which is a BtP game’s main source of income.

The point is we would spend much much more if we could buy the things we want outright.
I really don’t understand this obsession with hiding things in gambling boxes, skins are great, we all want more skins.

i love that people knew BEFORE this game was released that all the stuff on the gem shop was gonna be cosmetic. Lo and behold, it all is! The description in the update notes says “Rare chance” and people still try 200 times and then whine incessantly when they don’t hit the jackpot. I for one am superstoked that they are account bound so that people aren’t tempted to gamble to sell them for a lot of money. I think this is a better system to protect people with tendencies toward gambling addiction that can’t help themselves.

I would much rather be able to choose the weapon skin I want, rather than waste all my money gambling for it. There are 16 available weapons. What if I only want one of them?

Leave them account bound, Just let me choose the one I want.

You get to choose, you get a ticket and purchase the skin you want.

Making them account bound just makes me (and many others) feel that we’re forced to use our every last ounce of ingame gold or completely dry out our Mastercards/Visas if we want to get those skins.

This is called having no self-control and is not a flaw with the game.

everything worth owning is wrapped in BLC’s.

Last round of 30 gave me two tickets and a pink plush quaggiekins. Definitely thanking Based Quag and wearing it with pride.

So, I’m not sure if I’m just very lucky or the people buying 200 chests are unlucky, but they may not be that rare.

Also in the top right is a name change contract. Didn’t know those were even out until today, much less that you could find them in BL chests. Cool.

It’s simple – ANET just needs to decide if the extra money from the sale of the keys (vs selling the skins for gems outright) is worth the cost of irritating a large % of their player base. So far it seems like it is.

Wouldn’t it be nice if they would use a model that allowed for a gamble initially then turned it into a guaranteed buy after a set time.
Example:
Chance at ticket in BLC for the first month
month two they make it a set price for a single ticket.
To be fair they would set the price on a guaranteed buy high enough to have people continue to take chances on the BLC before finally saying enough and buying it directly.

EDIT: I still say they missed a great opportunity for a gold sink with this one. Sure some people will trade gold for gems and buy keys but many, many more would have paid gold for a purchase of a ticket from an NPC in game.

RNG actually has the potential to literally never give you what you want. Some can get it on first try, others can actually fail as many as a million attempts at it. The RNG god is a powerful god. If it doesn’t like you then there isn’t much you can do about it. No amount of tries will help you.

“No amount of tries will help you” is not quite accurate, the fact that each try has exactly the same low chance of a positive outcome does not preclude multiple attemps increasing the likelyhood of a positive outcome.

I see so much RNG rage but I don’t see anyone suggesting an alternative that would meet the requirements of human psyc. for satisfaction and reward being offered (just more exploitable bad ideas).

Feeling bad due to my response does not mean it was a personal attack.
It may just be that your original statement was wrong.

I wonder if anyone here has thought about how the way the fused skins have been implemented will set a precedent for the way skins are introduced into the game in the future?

It seems ANET have already made a decent real money profit from players pretty much gambling away for these skins. While I’m sure some people got lucky and got a ticket or two within a few chests, just like in real life the real profit from schemes like this comes from the addicted (in this case, the gamer who will just keep pouring gold/gems until he gets what he wants).

There really needs to be some sort of compensation in my opinion for people who are willing or silly enough to throw away this kind of money. Maybe have a 1/8 fused ticket drop at a common rate on black lion chests. Would be more fair for everyone because you would have to be extremely unlucky to have opened 100-200 chests and got absolutely nothing for it.

So if this becomes really popular and is a cash grab for aNET, whats the bet all future skins that will be released will become like playing the pokies at a casino? For what is in reality a decent looking skin this will probably be replaced in a month with an even better looking skin, and the cycle continues ….

To answer this I’ll take a quote straight from the male Thief with pistols summoned by Thieves Guild:

Hahaha! You’re kidding right?

I don’t know if I really will keep playing GW2, considering the road Anet is going.
It’s really getting a pay-to-win game. Yes I know you don’t need the skins as they wont improve your stats or anything, but frank an MMO is about getting new gear and style items. But hey I need to invest real money for that..

Seriously?

Actually, it’s getting more down to something like “pay-to-look the way you want or be stuck with what you casually get”

Whether something is either wrong or right, someone will always complain about it.
