Hello,

Not here to show off, but I think GW2 monthly achievement should be made tougher. It shouldn’t be achievable within 12 hours. NOT AT ANY COST.

I understand that there are plenty of casual players, but maybe increasing the number of events, champions killed, group events done, etc etc OR by even adding additional categories.

I can post screenshots of my monthly screenshots to prove my point, but I won’t.

Any ideas/suggestions are welcome

Well, for some people, who only play a few hours each weekend day, it’s barely doable. Not everyone concentrates solely on getting the monthly achievement so quickly. Since there are choices, I guess a person could choose to do the more difficult ones, instead of the easier ones, if they wanted more of a challenge.

Someone that plays 1-2 hours max per day WILL have a rather hard time to achieve this however, and monthlies should be achieveable by most players after all.

And does it matter if you get it done quickly? I’d be pleased if it took me less time, to be honest. An easy 10 laurels. Yay, now I can concentrate on other, more interesting achievements.

As a casual player, it really does take me the whole month to complete the monthly :p

Why not? 12 hours of only focusing on the monthly is quite a bit in my opinion.

imho achievements in this game are flawed at the moment:

It’s not only too easy to get Monthlies, it’s also too easy to get achievementpoints via daylies/monthlies. There is no reward for finishing a certain section of the achievements. There is no option to look at the last 5 earned achievements. (often I get an achievement during a battle and have no idea which it was).

I miss the love

I just crossed the 1000 hour mark TODAY and I have been playing since pre-launch i.e. 25th, 2012. If you do the calculations, it won’t make me a hardcore player :P

I agree that dailies and monthlies are both flawed.

However, even if monthlies can be achieved in twelve hours if you work toward it, they may not be achieved until late in the month if you “just play the game.”

If you believe that you should have to work toward a monthly, then the current design is terrible because they aren’t challenging, they are tedious. Increasing the effort required to complete the monthly won’t cure that. I could barely stand the dragon festival grind, I don’t think I could take it if they increased the number of times I have to repeat a task to get my monthly.

If you believe that monthlies should just happen during normal game play, then they are fine as they are (that is, they can be successfully achieved without paying attention to them). I usually have some random monthly achievement pop up near the end of the month.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

I’m happy that I have an option other than breaking down 500 items this month, personally. 60 champs will take me a week or two so that’ll be just fine. If you’re doing that in like 12 hours straight then perhaps you should go outside and get some fresh air for a bit.

Quite acceptable.

Well sure, but 12+ hours isn’t a casual day, is it? Normally, on average, you don’t play that much, right?

And were you focussing on trying to complete your monthly as well? Just playing a few hours over a weekend and not completely focussing on the monthly could take well over a month.

The monthlies are fine. Most people seem to be able to do them within a few days, it takes me a bit longer but I can usually get them done.
Making them harder to achieve for someone who can and is prepared to spend 12 hours of their day playing the game, might then make it near impossible for those of who can’t, don’t or wouldn’t want to invest so much of our time on it.

Let’s just be clear here:

40 skill points … doable by levelling alts. With a lvl80 … takes a lot of time
20 group events … takes a few hours
50 invaders killed … takes a few hours
100 events … happens after 2 weeks
10 dungeons … for most people this means 10 days dedication
60 champions … that’s quite a lot if you don’t hunt them specifically
20 group events … should be doable in a few days

This is actually a pretty hard month for casuals. I don’t see people with a life completing those in less than 2 weeks. Doable though with targeted play.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

I don’t normally just play to meet my dailies. I do pay attention to them, and if I achieve it…..yay. If not… Doesn’t bother me because I’m playing the areas I want to play on that particular day.

Although I understand why those that only focus on completing that particular item each day/month would consider them too easy.
I’m just not that type of player. At this time anyway.

I want to know what makes you think it’s any of your frigging business how I spend my gaming time? If I want to go no-lifer on it and get it done so I can spend the laurels on something I want, what does that have to do with you? All I want from the system is that is doable by all players over a reasonable period of time.

Fewer comments from the peanut gallery would be good too. It’s none of your business.

1000+ hours isn’t a casual player, by definition. Maybe you’re not “hardcore,” but the definition of “casual” most people use involves playing a few hours a week, a mathematical impossibility for you.

Op, you might not realize this, but not everyone can play the game as much as you do. Some people are raising families and going to school and working. If we could all spend a lot of time playing the game then yes I’d say 12 hours isn’t much, but some of us have things like long work hours.

Dailies and monthlies should be an incentive to log in, they should not take your day/month. They’re fine as they are. As long as they add to current gameplay rather than replacing it, everything is as it should be.

this is game is directed to all hardcore and casual, if you think something is too easy to complete for you, you can always have to opportunity to limit yourself in some aspect like:

1. WvW kill too easy: join WvW without utilities and without trinkets.

2. try to farm you own item for savaging achievement and don’t raid the TP as fast you see that requirement.

3. group events: if is too easy try to go Orr and do the groups event ALONE. that will add some challenge to you so easy monthly.

4. kill champion: dont join WvW to this one, instead try kill the karkas champion in SC, and there is a lot of champions in Orr camping skill points.

5. monthly dungeons: dont spam COF1, instead try arah p1-p2-p4, (p3 is a joke skip) and try to do some CM, AC. NAKED, dont even try to run whit all you exotic stuff, try to do some dungeons whit crapy gear, maybe level 20 blue and for sure that will add you some challenge that you wanted so bad.

6. Skill point amasser: well you can reroll a level 1 and level up to 30-40 naked again, so that archivement really give you some hard time and maybe some challenge you so badly wanted.

People always asking anet for hard contest when the hardest contest can be maded by oneself, so the rest of us: (casual) who only have 2hs at day in the night to play also enjoy the contest and have the same opportunities to have currencies.

thanks and sorry for my BAD English. PEACE

No, they’re just fine. I play a couple of hours a week, I don’t want to dedicate all of my game time hunting the monthly achievement. I am not forced to, of course, but if everything in this game would just be hard to achieve – as some people suggest – I wouldn’t log in at all.

The monthly requirements are fine as they are. They allow wider availability to people with different play-styles and time investment.
Anet is trying to cover as large a group as possible with the settings, and while they may need to be tweaked a small amount, they can’t pander to any one small group. Due to different levels of time commitment, I’ve finished them in roughly a month, down to finishing them in just 2 days of focused playing.

Monthly is fine just like it is. 12-20 hours is sufficient for a monthly achievement. Yea, you could design it so that I have to use every minute of my 2 hours per day playing to get the Monthly, but then I would never get to do anything else would I? The monthly isn’t designed to be the ONLY thing you do.

I’m afraid that’s anything but: is that your suggestion? Or if not, out of whose fundament were they pulled.

60 Champions? That’s 2 a day. I can go a week without killing any Champions.
10 dungeons? I get to do maybe 1 a week: I don’t PUG, and that’s all my Guild can support, since it’s made up of adults with responsibilities.
Group events? Maybe I could manage 20 a month.

This is actually a pretty hard month for casuals. I don’t see people with a life completing those in less than 2 weeks. Doable though with targeted play.

An accurate assesment, I think. While monthlies at the moment might be a bit easy, that sort of order of magnitude increase is just turning them into a “hardcore only” achievement.

I like the idea about tiered achievements. Sliding scales improve many things
