It’s something I’ve been wanting to talk about for some time now, because I keep encountering the issue on the forums.
- The thing is that if you think about content in a game as a concept you will realize that practically everything has been done.

A lot of suggestions have been turned away by the playerbase because “This isn’t WoW.”
- Let me tell you that the concepts are not all important because they won’t be the final result.
- I’ve never heard anyone say that “GW2 shouldn’t have combat, because they had it in WoW.” No, people say: “GW2 has better combat. It is way better than WoW.” but people, it’s still combat.
- The concept of combat don’t change. It’s the same thing in both games but they are designed differently.

So list the things we have in GW2 as concepts.
- Quests (Designed as the Task System and Dynamic Events)
- Mounts (Designed as Vehicles)
- Combat (Designed to be more dynamic and is action oriented)
- Open World (Designed into individual zones instead of one huge zone)
- Dungeons (Designed to 5 man parties to accommodate a casual audience)
- Equipment (Limited designs but you can dye them yourself. Note that in WoW, as an example, some of the sets were the same but with different colors)
- Inventory (Works together with a banking system to store materials there instead of them filling up your inventory)
- Crafting (Designed so that we can actually use what we create)
- Public Events (Called World Events and are designed as a Dynamic Event chain that plays out in each zone)

And you know what? These old concepts got a new game design and it’s neat. This is what makes the game new and exciting. It is, unfortunately, also not a perfect Game Design and that is what we’re trying to improve here on the forums.
- Just remember that you don’t hold the “truth” in your hands. I’ve read so many “That’s your opinion. It might not be everyone’s.” and then the person stating that would come with his opinion and not realize that it might not be everyone’s.

- Old game concepts can still make their way into GW2 in a new way that fits the game’s design. And don’t just turn your back on those because “They were in WoW.”

- I once read a thread on the suggestion page. The guy thought that Druids would be a nice class, but he got the “This isn’t WoW.” remark. I just couldn’t help but respond to that because Druids are actually part of the GW lore. I let the commentor have a piece of my mind and at the same time, however, state that bringing them in as a class could be difficult since they were more a term used to describe the Krytans that went to the Maguuma Jungle to live in harmony with nature.
- This is constructive criticism, people. Saying it’s a nice idea, when it is, because it’s part of the world, it’s part of the lore but implementing it can be troublesome because <argument>.
- But really, if people would like to see a Druid class then there could be made one when Tyria expands into the Maguuma Wastes to fight Mordremoth. Personally, I’m not all for it, not all against it either, but I don’t mind it if it fits the game design and lore.
- Remember this when you comment on the forum.

Well, there is a difference between becoming like WoW and having something WoW also had. I never played WoW though, and my main reason I play GW2 is cause its a full game without subscriptions or forced microtransactions. GW2’s biggest selling point after that though, is that is the alternative MMO. WoW has dominated the MMO genre, and GW2 has been one of the few to stand among the rubble of other “failed” MMOs. So thats why people are wary of becoming like WoW.

There’s a ton of missing UI elements in this game things people who played WoW take for granted that every game should have and with good reason, they are great ui elements and work well for everyday gameplay.

Here’s my list of what I found missing when I started playing

I asked for these things way back in the beginning, my post was entirely ignored which pretty much stands for every other post in these forums for enhancements and balance issues. They’re ignored every time.

It’s not that we want this game to become WoW we want this game to succeed and you do that thru enhancing the game to include the things that most gamers expect in an mmo especially in the ui.

Things like dual spec, outfitter, bar controls, calendars, alarm clock and egg timer, lfg for both dungeons and world events are all essential.

I’ve dabbled in the GW community long enough to know they want the exact opposite of anything WoW did, even if it’s worse and makes no sense not to include it.

I played WoW back in the day, and it has fallen from grace, but I am not stating that I want GW2 to become WoW. I’ve played other MMO’s than WoW that took in some new features that made them unique.
- I think that when people say that they don’t want a WoW clone, is that they don’t want GW2 to run itself into the ground like WoW did.
- WoW did have a lot of great features and a compelling story, a lot of lore to find in the world (it was kinda made into a joke during Cataclysm. Many, many references to TV series and other stuff, which pulled me out of the immersive experience of it). People would have to be mad to think that WoW reached the 12 million players if it really was that bad. It really wasn’t, but it became dumbed down and lost the playerbase which it was appealing to in the first place.

- I don’t want GW2 to pick up the WoW game design. However, there are things in this genre that people have come to expect from kinda every MMO, but also that the game uses its own game design to make it their own.
- I’d like GW2 to attain that status of being my main MMO, it has the potential to do so without ever becoming a WoW clone, but there are a lot of issues with the game that needs higher priority than it has.
- I could imagine that maybe they’d release an expansion providing, say, the Crystal Desert and maybe 4 to 6 new zones and a lot of tweaks to all the zones, improved reward system, more dynamic events (maybe a quest hub in the form of Triggerable Dynamic Events to have more to do in an area, maybe a village), improved World Boss mechanics, etc.

- GW2 has great potential in its own right, in its own game design, but it has to improve, expand and integrate to reach the peaks of said potential.
- I hope it reaches that before adding the other continents. It would mean that those continents would lack some end-game for PvE’ers as well (I know, endgame is what you make of it, but if they improve core gameplay designs now, they won’t have to redo and tweak so much in the future).
