Gaile, while you guys are fixing the crashes, can you please fix the Charr tails for this outfit? theyre very unorganic in the way they move, with stick straight sections and sharp bends that no real living limb actually does. also, the female charrs get male tails. gross!

There is a possible work-around for this issue that may work for you, too. We can’t make any guarantees, but this has been effective for other players.

If you have your animations setting on “Low,” consider bumping it to medium or high. We have found that this eliminates the crash issues connected to preview the new outfit or to seeing others wearing it.

To change your animation setting, do the following:

  1. Click the gear in the upper left-hand corner of your game screen
  2. Click Options.
  3. Choose the mountain image (2nd from the top), which leads to your graphics settings.
  4. Under “Advanced Settings” find “Animation” (the second item in that section).
  5. Choose “Medium” or “High.”
  6. Exit the Options window and the animations settings will be saved to the new one you designated.

Feel free to share in this thread if this work-around was effective for you.

In the meantime, the team is working on resolving this in the best manner possible.

Literally the first post, dude.

It’s causing people with certain graphical settings to crash if anyone on the map is wearing the outfit. Some people can’t even load into their characters because of it.

This is probably the wrong place to ask, but Bloodstone Glider for backpack skin please.

It also let me buy one without the expansion.
Edit: There’s no lock in the store for players without the expansion on this item. I went through with the purchase without notice. The glider was delivered, and I was allowed to add it to my wardrobe. I think I’ve seen gliders available to me in the past, but I went through with it this time half believing that at some point the game would stop me.

Yes, from what we know, if your graphic animation setting is on ‘low’ and a player in the outfit showing the helm renders on your client screen, or you preview the outfit, then your client can crash too. Gaile has a workaround post above that you can try.

Outfits causing the game to crash has been going on for about 2 months. This just seems to be the most dramatic. I have submitted the “crash report” at least 30 times and have said as much a couple times.

I would assume that your suggestion of changing animation settings from low to med/high may fix those as well, but the Ghostly Outfit is NOT the only outfit causing this.

Unfortunately, our internal tests are showing that it is most likely tied to the helm. So it is possible that you may be crashing other people’s clients that see you while they have low animation settings. None of this is official yet since we’re still investigating but since you asked…

I’ll share your feedback on the helm with its creators

Nobody is asking for you to engage in conversation about data-mined content. But when said data-mining let people discover such critical bug and make you aware of it, I don’t think it would be insane to imagine you take advantage of this situation (and free pre-release QA) to take a look at the bug before release. Not engaging in conversation doesn’t mean putting hands on your eyes, ignoring stuff, and suddenly discover the bug when it goes live for real and then have to rush a fix and disable stuff …

edit : also, I got crashes in wvw, supposedly because of the outfit (other than that, didn’t get any crash since DS was fixed – also a lot other people around were blaming a guy wearing outfit). I have every settings on max already. So the workaround doesn’t work for everyone

Why would they suspend people for wearing an outfit they purchased from the gem store? Yeah that wouldn’t cause a flood of complaints…. That’s ridiculous. Just take a break until it’s fixed or also try to change the animation settings as mentioned above.

Because a tiny amount of players make the game literally unplayable for many. It gives Anet a lot worse image if they let everyone suffer instead of the few people who already bought the outfit.

As I said why should I take a break if a tiny amount of players make the game unplayable? That is Anets job to remove those players even if they might not do it on purpose.

Besides the bug is known for a week (due to the chat codes) already, so Anet should feel ashamed that they released the outfit before fixing it.

Hi Deli,

I’m sorry to hear you are still experiencing crashes after the change. To aid in the investigation, would you be willing to provide the below information? If you are more comfortable replying in a customer support ticket, please let me know what that ticket id is.

1. confirm the crash you are receiving looks like this in the crash log:
Assertion: normalOffset == (unsigned)-1 || frameOffset == (unsigned)-1
File: ..\..\..\Engine\ModelFileFormat\ModelFileMerge.cpp(2440
2. attach a screenshot of your graphic settings
3. Let me know if you are on PC or Mac
4. What your player race and gender is
5. As many details about the crash as possible. Examples:
- Were you wearing the Ghostly Outfit when you crashed? If so, were you showing the helm?
- Did you preview it even if it is in your inventory and you previewed it?
- Or was someone else that you saw wearing it?
- Or are you stuck crashing on character create after equipping the outfit?

Thank you!

To folks who are arguing for a fix one week in advance of the release of the outfit. Let’s be clear: You didn’t have “early access.” You used data-mined information to try to gain access to, or look at, an unreleased item. We’re not going to try to chase down issue reports related to data-mined or leaked information. Doing so is not productive, and is counter to our policies about such content. Content that is data-mined is subject to change, subject even to removal. Those who view it or try to build a case for its future usefulness — such as seeing stats and expecting that they absolutely will not change — do so at their own risk.

I am sorry if we have to disagree here Gaile.

Chat codes are always a risk because even if they are data mined you can post them everywhere and crash other people even if they did not ask for the data mining. So all chat codes must be tested before enabling them to the public.

That’d be a waste of time, because:

a) there’d be people out there unaware of the problem, and

b) you’d have a hard time proving they were doing it to make other systems crash. If they state in chat, then maybe you would have a case with the report.

Yes; we will continue to communicate as much as we can about this issue!

I almost exclusively do WvW. My settings were all on medium/high prior to seeing the work around solution so I didn’t need to change anything. I was able to preview the outfit before it was released with no problems. Now, however, if someone pings it in chat or is around me wearing it, regardless of whether I click on the outfit or can even see the person in the outfit, I crash.

The last time I got in to EBG, I asked if someone was wearing it and someone said yes. When I got near our zerg, I crashed.

The first couple times I crashed, it was someone pinging it in chat to be a troll. I wasn’t clicking on the link and it was still crashing me every time it appeared in chat. I just gave up signing back on after the fourth or fifth time because I figured it would be resolved in an hour or so. I don’t know how coding works and such so apparently it’s a more complicated issue than I had first guessed since it’s now like 3 hours later.

Not trying to be snarky just so that’s clear.

Sadly if faulty chat codes exists some people will find it and use it to grief other people. I lost count how often I have been crashed by people posting faulty item codes over the last years.

To the people who are harassing Gaile about knowing of this issue a week ago, consider this. While Anet has chosen to look the other way with regards with dataminers, even the beloved That_Shaman, it still doesn’t change the fact that it’s against their EULA. At the end of the day, our game client is still their intellectual property and we are still bound by their EULA. They can place whatever they want in the .dat file – It being there doesn’t supersede their rules on datamining. So in short, get over it and be appreciative that Anet even allows dataminers to post things. In reality, they don’t have to.

I do not see anyone harassing Gaile, I only see people disagreeing with how it got handled simply because the bug got found thanks to data miners.
Preventing data mining is basically impossible unless Anet would use sophisticated encryption methods which would harm the performance of the game or always patch in everything last minute. If there would be an easy fix for data mining it would be widely in gaming industry used because about every online game I ever played got data miners.

<OPTION Name=“animation” Registered=“True” Type=“Enum” Value=“low”>
)
which you’d want to change to either
<OPTION Name=“animation” Registered=“True” Type=“Enum” Value=“medium”>
or
<OPTION Name=“animation” Registered=“True” Type=“Enum” Value=“high”>

Worked for me to change video settings whitout the client being run (although I don’t have any issue with the outfit yet)
