I still like how people use the “you are not forced to get a legendary” argument.

You are not forced to play the game either, so why should anyone give any criticism at all?

Try this argument:

Legendaries are not a given.

Not everyone will have one, even if they want one.

If you want to craft one, you need to do stuff. A lot of stuff. A lot of different stuff.

ANet was unsatisfied that the intended requirement of “play some WvW” was too easily circumvented. They’ve changed things so its now more difficult to circumvent it. You still can, but it’s more costly.

If the difficulty of acquiring a Legendary was never going to change over time, you’d still be able to use Godskull weapons to force a precursor out of the Mystic Forge. But it does change as they refine the process to be more in keeping with the “Displays a mastery of all aspects of play” prestige. Yes, the ability to buy one takes a big ol’ dump on that (something I sincerely hope the second wave of legendaries don’t suffer from), but the person who actually crafted it did uphold the premise. They did a lot of different stuff.

What about “forcing” PvPers to do Dungeon for 500 tokens. Let’s lower the amount of tokens as well. Let’s see…60 tokens?

C’mon rank 14 is nothing.

As i have said many times before, there definitely should be a separate, WvW specific path to legendaries. The same for sPvP. PvE path however should stay PvE only, without PvP-dipping.

Don’t even bother, they think that because they had to “suffer” to do this crap everyone should suffer too.

No, they really shouldn’t.

Legendary weapons are not promoted as the ‘play the way you like’ reward. They are promoted as the ‘play everything, and quite a bit of everything at that’ distinction.

As you can see from their actions, ArenaNet wants the process of crafting one to be more dependent on doing a variety of things not less. Don’t expect that direction to change.

Then why is Spvp excluded?

Then why is Spvp excluded?

You’re not required to play SPvP for your legendary because you cannot currently display legendary items in SPvP. You can show them off in PvE and WvW, so it includes PvE and WvW in the creation. ANet said they were investigating SPvP legendaries in their reward revamp, and if they are carried over from PvE then I imagine they might include SPvP somehow in the creation.

Possibly because its another largely unrelated game .

But more seriously, SPvP dailies generate mystic coins, so sPvP can contribute to the process.

It should have required some WvW to begin with in my opinion. That said, why 14? It seems like a pretty random number to go with.

It would have been rank 100 or 250 if it was my decision. Rank 14 can be reached in a day.

Oh noes! The “mastery of all aspects of play” rewards ask you to WvW a few days.

Yes its harder than it was before – some changes to strengthen the theme/flavor of rewards do in fact mean players have had it too easy in the past.

My thoughts exactly, I wonder of people can still get badges by farming the JP like they use to, Mesmer up!

I got over 2000 badges just by getting achievements in pve.

The “mastery of all aspects of play” seems to dissolve completely when you can just pony up some cash and buy one straight from the trading post.

That said, how many components are truly gained by playing content vs. paying gold/real money?
Due to the absurdly low drop rates of many of the components, it is quicker and more efficient to just buy the pieces needed.

Or the stupidity of making all of the dungeon gifts cost the same number of tokens. Want to get the Bifrost(Staff), have fun in Arah, or pay for the runs.

The whole process of the legendary was not properly balanced in any way to require any achievement other than having deep pockets.

In the old days the “way to get them” was to farm the WvW jumping puzzles, because fighting for them was for “suckers” I remember someone somewhere calling them Badges of Jumping.

I didn’t care for legendaries then, surely not now.
They were made wrong from the start, before anything everything legendary related should be soulbound, then things like every jumping puzzle should be required, maybe every slayer achievement, emergency response hero, etc etc.
Basically something you’d get with time and dedication, not farm and grind, I’ve seen people with 2,5 AP with legendaries, they seriously look more and more silly as time passes because the only thing they ever got going for them was the bragging rights, and that pretty much gone now.

People seeking Legendary power should have a responsibility towards helping their server in times of war at least alittle. I think the rank requirement is a good thing.

I believe this is an excellent way to reduce the number of Legendary weapons made. It also goes a long way towards making new players move on when they see that one of the top goals requires a huge amount of time and effort, forces them into more and more unfamiliar content, and others before them didn’t have to do it.
I don’t see this as a good way to increase your gem buying base.

This change does make sense in a way since methods of acquiring badges have made them a lot more plentiful thanks to achievement chests and the like. Since they’ ve been devalued and don’t require wvw the wxp is a reasonable change, plus it ultimately can be bypassed too. If you can make a legendary you can certainly afford 28 laurels.

Legendaries always had a WvW component, you needed and still need 500 Badges of Honor for the Gift of Battle. However, this is quite trivial now since you get them by the thousands from the AP reward chests. The rank requirement is good and should have been higher IMO.

A good addition to legendary weapons would have been to obtain Dungeon Master and/or a number of tokens from each dungeon, not just one.

Legendaries will never be truly legendary as long as you can just buy them with your credit card from the TP. They need more components in them that must be earned by in-game action, rather than in-game/RL cash.

OP, I didn’t see you complaining when they put a ton of badges in achi chests.

I also didn’t see any kind of dip in the Legendary prices when they did.

This thread is thus utterly pointless. Gift of Battle is so trivial to get, even with the new rank requirement, that it will in no way affect the price of legendaries or contribute more than a modicum of the grind required to make one.

2. Less people able to make a legendary = less sellers = price rise.

This logic offends me as an economist.

Reduced demand for precursors will cause precursor prices to fall.
