Added a requirement for players to attain a rank of 14 in order to purchase the Gift of Battle.

This is a really bad idea.
1. It disadvantages the new players.
2. It will drive the legendary price up.
3. Forcing PVEers to WvW won’t do good for WvWers.

Blizzard already did this and well, people are complaining. PvP is entered by those that hate PvP, which in turn leads to grief, bad performance and complaints.

Sigh

Stop saying it disadvantages new players. Getting to rank 14 is incredibly easy, especially compared to getting all the other materials to craft your Legendary.

And rank 14 is a month of Daily Laurels, so you don’t even have to participate if you hate it so much.

I didn’t approve of wvw map completion but I feel the gift of battle is in inherently a wvw thing, so this is reasonable. Maybe add a way to get it from pvp too?

14 levels is trivial and can be bypassed by laurels anyways not to mention the wvw chests still compensate a little. Badges come from achievement chests. WvW can still be avoided.

Oh noes! The “mastery of all aspects of play” rewards ask you to WvW a few days.

Yes its harder than it was before – some changes to strengthen the theme/flavor of rewards do in fact mean players have had it too easy in the past.

I had to put up with going through every PvE map getting world completion, running through the same dungeons 6-7 time to get my legendary, in the grand scheme of things what you are complaining about is nothing compared to that. So please, the time you spent complaining about this, you could have done 1/14 ranks as it is.

1. So let’s not change anything ever then, awesome. The change has likely been made precisely because people could just grab badges from AP chests or from laurels, things not in place when the original req was set at the beginning of the game.

2. It’s rank 14, it takes no time at all and it is extremely unlikely that this will impact upon legendary prices. If you are worried about costs, worry about the impact pre crafting may well have on the market.

3. “They are not forced..”. Exactly. Btw not everyone who goes in there to grab their ranks will be a complete and utter gibbering idiot who ruins the master plans of the wvw zerg.

It’s rank 14, you don’t need to get Ultimate Dominator. To be honest, given the massive disparity between the pve and wvw reqs for crafting a Legendaries, the rank requirement should have been much higher.

Anet clearly want people to get involved in multiple aspects of the game when crafting a Legendary and if someone is totally and utterly agains’t wvw, they can use laurels or simply buy one.

You can rank up 14 times in a day, I don’t nee why they need to get rid of this.

Go in there, kill things, or spend your laurels if you’re afraid of getting whacked upside the head by other players and buy it that way.

Also, there was a way we used to get Badges of Honor BEFORE achievement chests happened: actually doing WvW.

New players will be fine.

I agree with that. I still hope that if they ever release new legendaries, they are going to ask for a special gift of battle requiring more than those measly 14 rank (or the old easily attainable 30…)

To satisfy all the WvWers over here they should have set the rank req to at least 4 billion. And at the same time nerf the way you acquire ranks, so people will need a 100 times longer to get a rank. Maybe then they could stop whining about it being to easy in comparison to the PvE world completion (which btw includes WvW as well)

They need a “-1” option for posts like the OP. Seriously, this requirement should be higher than 30, not lower. Legendaries should always require at least a modicum of mastery over all relevant parts of the game they can be used in.

Do know how long World Completion takes? I’ve been playing this game for like 6 months and still haven’t been able to get it because of how utterly boring and LONG it is. I’m finally close to 70% and let me tell you, rank 14 in WvW is probably equivalent to just completing one map in PvE. Not to mention all the other PvE requirements which is everything else.

It’s such a minimal change I really don’t understand why you’re complain. Just think about it for once, is it really that bad? Seriously, nothing against WvW but it’s like being in the Queensdale or Frostgorge champ train when you’re in a zerg. Just think of it that way.

There are other activities you have to do that take far greater time and commitment than this one. I am really not one for WvW, but I decided to have a look-se when EOTM came out, and it took less than a day to reach level 14. The first 10 go by so quickly, and the remaining 4 took maybe just under an hour (of not a lot of action) each? In the grand scheme of things, I think they made it easier, rather than harder for newer players to get one step closer to their legendary, if they want one.

While I agree PvP shouldn’t to included for the Legendary requirement, I see WvW as a Gray area, since you can rank up by taking Camps and Towers and such, not really killin other players. Maybe that’s just me. As for the OP’s concern, I don’t see it, no Offense.

I, like others, got my Gifts of Battles Before badges came in Achievement chest, before Laurals were introduced, before you could get Rank up Chest in WvW. So I see it as they making it easier for new players not Harder. Pity us that got it before the updates.

I have been working on my first legendary for 6 months now, and i guess i will need another 4 months to gather enough lauren to get me enough obsidian shard and T6 materials in my pace. I am glad i got my gift of battle in bank bought with the badges from the achievement chest.

The reason i brought this up is, there are a lot of casual players like me who got a life to run, normally i only able to get the fastest and easiest 5 dailies done for the lauren and i am done for the game time. WvW is fun to me but it took too much time to run around. Also i am not in EU or NA time zone therefore when i am able to play, most players are sleeping. Sometimes i got the time to go WvW, the background is like dead city, therefore i have around 1k players killed, but my WvW rank is only at lv6.

I suggest the purchase of gift of battle with rank requirement ascending for the number of purchase count per account. With the first purchase with 0 rank needed, 2nd purchase 25 rank, 3rd purchase 50 rank and go on. The rank required is adjustable and just the idea. So players who are late to get on the boat are not getting punished.

1st world carebear problems…

Timeline of WvW’s Role in Legendary Production
-Gift of Battle is needed to make a Legendary for 500badges
-You used to have to kill players to get the badges. There was no other source.
-These badges dropped a lot less frequently than they do today.
-They created achievement chests that gave ~1000 badges by 5000 points.
-People stopped needing to WvW to buy the Gift of Battle.
-Anet reintroduces a need to actually play WvW to buy the WvW gift that you have always needed
-People start to complain they have to pause weeks of grinding mats/tokens to spend a couple days in a WvW zerg.

At first you could buy the Gift of Battle with no rank requirement. Then they figured out they trivialized the WvW requirement for the legendary since 500 Badges of Honor were very easily obtained from AP reward chests. So they ninja-ed a requirement of WvW rank 30 without any prior notice and there was massive uproar. They subsequently removed the rank requirement TEMPORARILY, which they announced. And now they’ve put it back in and at a lower level.

Rank 14 is very easy to get, you can do it in 1-2 days if you focus on it. Let’s not have another QQ thread about this non-issue.

I have a quip for my Engi. If you love events 1 000 000 karma is absolutely nothing. And the only part of world completion that is annoying is WvW. Especially if your server is completely dead when it comes to WvW. (I’m on Underworld. We are literally the worst of the worst right now. There’s even free transfers to our server).

I also love when people say that it is very easy. My server does not do WvW. What should I do? Transfer?

Edge of the Mists…
It pools people based on what color they are that week, so if your server is the Green that week, then you’ll be grouped in with all the other Green servers in Edge of the Mists.

Also, as I and others have pointed out, all you need to get to rank 14 without touching another player in WvW is laurels and badges. You get laurels from doing your Daily, which you can do without stepping foot inside a WvW map; and you can get badges from Achievement Chests, which can also be obtained without touching WvW.
