Graphics: Option to reduce bloom effect
can we have the option to turn on/off these postprocessing effects separately…
- color tinting
- bloom
currently, there is no way to turn off bloom while still being able to keep the color tinting.
Yeah, I also despise the limitations.
Some effects that are higher priority depends on person.
Me, I never notice motion blurs and I don’t care much about the bloom effects (Tho it look nice on the sun).
But then it would be harder for players who don’t know about the options… >_<
I wish we had optional Advanced Settings tab for graphics in that case. Where we have precise “Check or uncheck” and “intencity slider” options on each effect separately.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.
I came here to post exactly this. I love the tinting effects and some of the blurring, but honestly, the bloom is just ridiculous. It’s not always awful, but it often is. Part of it is that it seems to use a fixed pixel number, so it’s more noticeable for smaller/distant objects. Observe the attached screenshots.
In the first image, it doesn’t look so bad.
In the second image, it’s beginning to look a bit odd.
In the third image, the bloom is actually wider on each side than the object (is that some kind of coral?) itself is. That’s just too much.

That is actually how bloom works in RL cameras. The width of the bloom is proportional to the brightness of the object relative to the background, not its size.

The only reason it bugs me is because bloom (and lens flare) are defects in real-world cameras. As a photographer I’ve tried my best to eliminate them unless I specifically wanted it for artistic reasons (e.g. bloom in portraiture). It strikes me as highly ironic that 3D renderings (which have “perfect” virtual lenses) are introducing defects to make things look more “realistic.”
I play with post-processing turned off for this reason. But I too would appreciate separate options for color tinting (helps to smooth out some of the unrealistic color uniformity in rendered images), or a way to dial back the bloom.

Cool. I’m not a photography buff, so I didn’t know that. Thanks.
I’ve tried RadeonPro and SweetFX settings in the unlikely event that it might help, but unsurprisingly, that didn’t work.

Agreed. The amount of stuff flying on screen during a boss battle is ridiculous.
Just came back to the game after an extended break. Turning off bloom was an option at launch…went to turn it off when I came back and the option is gone. Please allow us to turn it off…it is way over used in my opinion in this game.
Glad to be back though….my 8o is parked until I remember what the heck I am doing though….started a new toon and enjoying the game very much.
GW1 was just about the only game i ve played where bloom was used correctly – Avicara springs anyone?
GW2 not so much.

Tbh I don’t think they know how, like the boss lightsplosion that they added a checkbox for that does nothing.
Placebo don’t work here. Just like FoV.

the bloom effect look especially bad during night environments—where light colors glow intensely as if the sun is shining on them, instead of the moon.
example, look at my OP screenshot. that is a night environment, and yet the glow is rediculously intense.

this problem seems to mainly affect light skinned characters. but it still needs a fix. it happens on certain maps.
