Granted, there a bunch of different mission types and they all vary in difficulty. But given that this is guild content, we created some challenges that should hopefully require some decent coordination. And while the risen temple of Grenth is a fine example of very hard event, I think you’ll find that the guild content pressures you ways other than dealing lots of damage. A few missions haven’t even been completed by our internal testers yet (but they came extremely close).

Will it be like the dungeon mechanics? Where you have to learn how to do it and practice or be killed often?

there was no “wipe” back in the day, just rez rushing!

and they require coordination, to a very light degree.
(at the extreme you can say “you need to stick together and rez the fallen”)

but as the game matures, content will be more and more challenging and engaging.

Well my guild members and I are pretty excited about guild missions but reading about the rush events makes me worried about our small number of people online at a time… we are a small guild with only 23 members right now and we usually don’t have everyone online at once. I’m sure it won’t be a problem finding non-guildies to help with guild events at first but once the honeymoon phase is over with these missions and everyone isn’t flocking to them, are we going to be at a disadvantage? Best case scenario, the amount of “rushes” required will be scaled to the number of people in the guild but I don’t want to get my hopes up.

On a lighter note, cheaper wp costs for the guild sounds pretty sweet, and turning into a guild banner sounds pretty funny!

How dissapointing… instead of raids we’re getting more mindless, super easy, open world zergs?

Yeah, big bosses with one shotters is by far the largest open world failure in the game. Alright, I may be exaggerating a bit, but it’s still underwhelming in that you can’t loose, you just stick to the crowd, and res or be ressed.

I know this allows for the majority to experience epic battles at their leisure, but it also leaves the world without a next level challenge. Perhaps have one or two entities in the world that really requires individuals to be tested to their utmost.

Why not have a boss that mix things up a little. Perhaps a boss that has the battlefield changing the whole time, where your positioning needs to constantly change. Where certain members need to be designated to certain tasks, like some need to stand on exact spots, or need to do operate consoles, maybe the boss can change and players need to acquire a buff to damage him, or he designates targets and these players need to perform an action or take constant damage.

Bosses, and I mean all bosses, should have deeper mechanics, since the fights take so long, it’ll draw a person away from the monotony. And there should be a point where you can loose, which is something that the heavy zerg fights lack. A constant barrage of attrition eventually gets old.

One big question.

Will there be some Guild missions that are appropriate for small guilds, (with a little help from other players), or is this feature really meant only for guilds that can field 10-20+ members for a Mission? (Also, are there some that take place in lower level zones and don’t require a guild of level 80s)?

I’m really hoping the system offers something for guilds of all sizes. If this is just something for level 80 mega-guilds, I will be very unhappy.

grenth, grenth…
everybody answers “grenth” to counter talks about midless zergfest.

i need to go take a look over there.. see if there is hope for open world content to be rewarding gameplay.

Don’t bother. It’s not “well designed, challenging content”.

They just added portals that if one spawns and you’re in it you’re instantly defeated. Not downed. Defeated. RUN BACK.

Once again Grenth can also be zerg rushed. A lot of people just don’t even bother going because of the one shot portals that bug out and drop you from one portal into another portal and instantly kill you from fall damage and then you get a repair bill.

Grenth himself is a joke. I can tank him on my glass cannon PVE warrior with omnom pies for healing and not using any dodges.

Keep trying. And fix the kitten abomination by Caer Shadowfain WP at the end of the Plinx chain… A lot of people don’t even bother finishing the chain anymore because he resets himself every 30 seconds. It’s ridiculous. His charge doesn’t even need half of that range and would still be effective.

A few missions haven’t even been completed by our internal testers yet (but they came extremely close).

Yeah ! That’s the spirit ! Keep on this path please

fyi, the same thing was said about explorable dungeons.

Were they toned down that much ?

I didn’t do any dungeons during the betas, so I don’t know if they were nerfed during, before or if QA is just, the “average” gamer.

Originally, explorable dungeons were announced as the hardest content in the game designed for a group of coordinated players. QA even said during one of their streams that they had yet to complete some of the explorable paths, but that was okay, because they knew there were more hardcore gamers that would be able to do it, and that was who it was designed for.

I still remember going into my first explorable dungeon, keeping in mind of what they said above. A few minutes in, I remember thinking “this requires a coordinate group?” but I was glad, because the group I was with wasn’t exactly the greatest, or coordinated. I also remember laughing to myself, when after the dungeon they talked about how hard it was (we didn’t wipe at all or anything bad).

hey dude you’re awesome at video games I wish i could be just like you!

Unfortunately there will be several smaller, casual guilds who will complain that the larger scale content is too difficult. Just wait!

They got no room for any complains.

A small guild is just as good as a party of 5 people doing an event.
Anet’s goal is to increase guild sizes and create notoriety in the server, rather than people sticking to the small guilds. And so – increasing in size.

I’m crossing my fingers here. I mean this is something I really want and will be a huge help to getting the guild to do other things together besides WvW.

But let’s be reasonable… this is something that’s hard to balance. It might not be that amazing first try. They’ve got to balance group sizes, length of these challenges, replayability… results could we weird at first.

The important thing is it’s coming because it can be something major to build on.

Its interesting that people not of the guild can get some kind of reward (hopefully other than normal event rewards) for doing the guild missions. My only fear is that, how are people not in the guild (and not in the specific map), going to know about these guild missions? (other than someone spamming it in LA/capitals)

Maybe there will be a symbol on the map. For example, how you can see Commander icons or the Sword icon’s in WvW when there’s PVP.

Just make a new icon for Guild Events to show up on the map.

Guild Missions sound like a great start to improving guilds. That interview raised a few questions that I would love Anthony or Colin to answer.

Will Guild Missions have a daily limit or some other time-gating mechanic that will require scheduling? If so, are starting Guild Missions limited by guild rank permissions so officers can start them when the most guildmembers are online?

The guild interface is …archaic, a step back from GW1 even, to put it in the mildest possible way. Are there any plans to add the following to improve guild management?

*Last online notification
*Member notes
*Officer notes
*Guild calendar
*Fix guild UI lag as was done to the contacts list lag

It seems like the Guild Missions are designed to encourage guilds to interact with other guilds and the general population. Are there any plans to help facilitate that by adding Alliances like in GW1 or even just basic custom chat channels?

Quick questions

If guilds can open content up in the world (hopefully not anywhere) how will this affect non guild players trying to get their map completions done?

Also i hope this cannot be abused. i mean doing Guild content in low zones that gets lower players killed, would just anger newer players etc..

I know i don’t have all the facts, just two things that crossed my mind.

If all I got was a last online notification, I’d be happy.

If I got a guild calendar as well, I’d be elated. Even if it was only a week or 2 week calendar.

Really, both of these need to be implemented to help keep everyone up-to-date.

Seconded. These two features are prime in keeping a guild running efficiently.
A calendar will help a lot when we’re planning our weekly events. And the showing the last online date will help our officers keep the guild clean, as we now have a bi-monthly call out to see who is still playing, and it feels so unnecessary.

Let’s face it, Anet already decided what part of community is important for them, so they will do everything to please bad players. Now we surely know that guild missions won’t be challenging at all. Devs might not agree, but saying Grenth even is hard is, well.. let’s say they didn’t play anything else before.

I remember everyone was having so much fun in my previous mmo with every single new update. We got new dungeons, world bosses. None was able to clear and kill them even for weeks! And you know what, it was fun, you logged into game and you were looking forward to another raid trying to take down that nasty boss and when we finally did it, I was so excited even I did not win the epic loot it dropped.

I hope you read this Anet and finally realise what you are doing wrong in PvE.

No offense but if these are the same testers who said they couldn’t beat Explorable mode dungeons because they were so insanely hard then I think your testers might just suck. I’m sure you could hire some people from a top PvE guild, have them sign an NDA and give you an actual idea on the difficulty of the content.

Everything doesn’t need to be HM Vanilla WoW raid difficulty, but it would be nice if there were a few things that were that range somewhere in the game.

That’s the only way smaller guilds will be able to get these done, probably, with help from the community.

And will we be able to kick these off in WvWvW please! That could add some spice to a siege when you drop a dragon event outside the gates.

but aside from that… no “pve” game will give you new content every day, its just impossible.
-fotm difficulty increase is a solution
-as is randomized dungeons
-player generated/created content
