I’ve been working on scripts so that you can use a Wiimote Plus and Nunchuck to control your character in Guild Wars 2. This is for anyone to enjoy and the download link is posted below.
The inspiration came from the prospective ideas of other immersive games and concepts, and being a programmer it really felt like this should’ve been done already. But, as many people with a wii know, there aren’t actually that many “good” motion control games. So I decided to try it, and after a few weeks I’ve nailed down the tweaks and have a few class + weapon combinations done, with a few more coming out tonight, and more over the weeks as I want to make them and people ask for them. (I need to make a program that can put these together with a nice GUI though).
These aren’t 100% perfect, but they’ve been thoroughly tested to be as accurate to the actual character’s swings and attacks in-game. It also isn’t meant to increase your in-game ability, you most certainly will not be able to defeat an equal player who is using a keyboard and mouse. It’s meant to bring you into the game, and I’ve really enjoyed it and hope other people will as well. I’ve even taken down a champion using the wiimote. You are responsible if you destroy anything using the wiimotion controls.
How can I use my motions to play?
For one, the basic things like character movement, jumping, and gathering are still handled with buttons. Your skills, 1 though 9 (and your elite, 0) are activated by a combination of “skill buttons” and motions. The wiimote has 2 skill buttons, A and B. The nunchuck has one, Z.
Right (R-) Skill – Wiimote B
Left (L-) Skill – Nunchuck Z
Alt (A-) Skill – Wiimote A
I’ve mapped attacks so that they match the animation in-game. The right skill is typically used with right-handed attacks, left skill with left-hand attacks, and the alt skill for utilities. In-depth example: Warrior Axe/Mace
To use skill 3, the axe throw, you hold your R skill button (because you’re using your right-hand weapon) and flick your wrist down like you’re throwing it. The slight downward motion + angle change is what the wiimote is looking for. To use 4, hold L skill and swing left (Left means the left side of the nunchuck, so if you held the nunchuck sideways and swing to your left it would not work. Motions are relative to the controller). To use 5, which is a ground slam with your mace, hold L skill and swing down. Make sense?
Feedback appreciated
