Guild Wars 3?
The reason they abandoned Guild Wars to make Guild Wars 2 was because Guild Wars was a lobby game with instanced maps and they wanted to make a full fledged mmo. Unless they decide that they want to make something besides an mmo then I dont see them making Guild Wars 3.
I have no idea why people ask for GW3. It would mean years of little or no content for GW2 while they make it and you’d have to abandon an account and characters you spent years working on.

So it is confirmed that they are making GW3.
I can tell you why people ask for GW3. Because the whole GW2 engine and tools is totally outdated. A lot of it is 10 years old. That is why we still dont have DX11 support and Anet needs 9 month to make an armor set
Gw2 isnt even halfway through its lifespa, the chance of a GW3 within 10 years is pretty small. Regardless of the age of the engine and the technical challenges, making a new game or engine is a substantial many year undertaking, especially with so much life potentially in the current game.
Personally I would be surprised if we ever see a GW3, but in the chance we do, it is a very, very long way off before work will prob start on such a project
They didn’t make GW2 just because some arbitrary number of years had passed and it was time for a new game. So it seems highly unlikely they’re going to make GW3 just because the same number of years have passed.
(Also they started working on GW2 when they released Eye of the North in 2007.) So if they were following the same pattern they’d have started on GW3 in 2014 and it would be due out in 2019.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”

you know the time where someone asks the same question with almost the same wording….
2015-2016
Fort Aspenwood
Due to the investment NCSoft put into Blade & Soul in order to get it running in North America they will likely never allow Guild Wars 2 to return to Cantha as it could end up being a challenge to Blade & Soul.
Due to the slow rate that we are dealing with the elder dragons it will be at least 10 years before the option to return to Elona ever comes up.
Instead of Guild Wars 3 how about they leave Guild Wars behind and create something new. Steam punk, cyber punk, sci-fi, and a modern setting are all settings that don’t get enough attention.
The reason they abandoned Guild Wars to make Guild Wars 2 was because Guild Wars was a lobby game with instanced maps and they wanted to make a full fledged mmo.
Anet confirmed many times that the instance part was by design, it has nothing to do with the inability of making it non-instance based.
better yet, GW2 is pretty much the same, limited player count per shard, small areas instead of a true open world.

For performance reasons, because the engine and graphics libs aren’t optimized for large player counts since it’s based all on GW1’s core.

Of course the instanced part was by their design…..
The point was that they said they wanted to do more than they could do with the original game. They couldn’t turn a lobby game with instanced maps that hold only a handful of people at a time into what they wanted so they abandoned it to make this game.

I think we’ll definitely get a GW3, but I doubt it will be 2019 or any time soon. This game isn’t very old and they have a lot they can still do with it if they actually wanted to bother.
I would be excited for a GW3 eventually, though.

:D nice sacrasm

GW3 would be nice. After a few years in tech you can do stuff you could not do before and eventually a rewrite is easier than tacking on the new stuff.
I think another expansion would be better for now. There isn’t enough of a difference in new technologies since 2011 to justify making an entire new engine and game from scratch.

Well we also have posts about housing and mounts on the front page again…so I guess it is that time again.
I think the GW2 engine is probably good for quite a while. Besides, I’d rather they just expand this game, then get a GW3 with a smaller world but somewhat better looking and possible better mechanics.

…
Brilliant. Take my +1.

Yes, it’ll happen. But not anytime soon. We can start talking Guild Wars 3 when the last Elder Dragon is dead. Given that seems to be the overall plotline, we have four more dragons to go. When ‘Bubbles’ is dead, that’s when the next game will shine on the horizon.
Not before that.
Edit: Whether players stick around that long is another topic. . . .
Whether they stick around or not is the prerequisite (or a costant influx of new) for whether any new or additional game gets made in this story world. If they do and in sufficient numbers there is some tiny chance they are stupid enough to keep attempting to move this universe forward. At this point it would be a mistake though.
Then again… these guys are really quite arrogant in how I believe they see their work, their company, and their customers. They may have it 80% done and messed up bad right now just waiting for the right moment to screw us.

You think this engine (if you want to call it that…) is “good for quite a while.”?
It was bad before they even finished the original GuildWars 2 game that release and became this. They cannot move forward with growing technology as it currently stands really. Change, grow or die. Two of those are almost always necessary together for anything to happen, one is a certainty for almost anything on some or another time-line. This engine changed and died already.

The “content” we get at the moment seems to be too much about new systems piled upon systems. Instead of fixing existing systems, we get more and more new ones. There is new content along with these, but it irks me that development resources are wasted with flavour-of-the-month novelty projects instead of making the existing game better by efficiently re-using old systems with the new lore and using the development time to perfect the existing systems.
i will definitely buy gw3….gw franchise is amazing

Not sure you played gw2, maybe try again.
Since it sure as heck aint about WvWvW or spvp if you look at content for each mode
i expect to hear the announcement that they wont put out any more GW2 expansions because of some new “feature” they want to add but the engine wont support, this announcement will come right before we get any sort of closure on the Elder Dragons story. then all work on GW2 will stop in favor of GW3.
