As the title says, this thread is for the Guild Wars players that are missing some of the hundreds of skills (and/or skill mechanics) we had at our disposal. This is NOT a thread to complain about limited build diversity or the ilk. This thread is to here to allow players a way to point ANet towards some nice skills we’d like to see return.
For the non-Guild Wars players, here is a link to a wiki page listing Guild Wars skills in different categories based on mechanics, campaigns, professions, etc.

Here are a few skills that I would love to see make a comeback in Guild Wars 2:

  • Ray of Judgement
Now, this skill already exists in the game as a guardian’s Focus skill. However, it unfortunately cannot compare to the awesomeness that was its Guild Wars predecessor. I mean, who can’t fall in love with a giant holy death beam that shot down from the sky, setting any foe that touched it on fire while dealing armor-ignoring damage to said touched foes. That right there is the epitome of epic!
  • Double Dragon
Now, Double Dragon was originally an OK skill. It was a pointblank AoE that dealt several ticks of damage to foes that were standing too close to the caster. Though, with how squishy casters were in Guild Wars, and better forms of PBAoE skills being provided to melee players, it never really got that much attention outside of gimmicky farm builds. Lucky, this skill (as well as other elementalist elite skills) was given an updated that actually made it a fun skill to carry around during a fight.
It became a Doublecast Skill, meaning that both the caster, and a targeted ally received the effects of the skill. Imagine yourself and a friend being surrounded by a giant fire tornado that dealt decent amounts of damage that also happened to set things on fire. What’s more was the fact that the user could cast the skill onto them self, doubling the effects as a makeshift super PBAoE skill!
  • Illusionary Weaponry
Honestly, when the mesmer was first revealed, the art work used on the Guild Wars 2 website as a link to the mesmer’s page, brought forth some speculation as to whether the mesmer’s infamous elite skill, Illusionary Weaponry, would make a triumphant return as something worth using. In Guild Wars, the skill itself was fun to use, but it was never a very effective way of dealing damage to foes. with casters being given the ability to be within melee range, many had hoped that a return of Illusionary Weaponry’s mechanic would prove a very awesome means of dealing damage as a mesmer. Sadly it was not to be, but the elementalist was given a way to summon magical weapons that had their own mechanics. Still… Summoning purple weapons that dealt direct damage it still cool…
  • Heal Area
Now, Heal Area was never a viable skill for monks to bring with them. While having a powerful heal that healed everyone within range was very tempting, it literally healed everyone. If there were still some mobs surrounding the user, they would have also been healed. Meaning that it would a lot take longer to defeat a group of mobs.
Now there are some examples of PBoE healing in Guild Wars 2. The guardian meditation, Merciful Intervention, comes to mind as well as the elementalist’s off-hand dagger skill, Cleansing Wave, are both some decent PBAoE heals with additional effects that can help their users. Though, as far as supporting allies goes, it would be nice to have some more sources of healing. Now it doesn’t have to be exactly like Heal Area (Please don’t let it be like exactly like Heal Area!), but having some more PBAoE heals would make supporting a party a bit more interesting besides spamming them with boons.

These are just a few skill that I can think of right now, but what about you guys? Are there any skills you’d like to see return? Are there skill mechanics you would love to see come back? Why?

Searing Flames, though burning in GW was much more deadly than GW2 version.
Kinetic Armor – all the earth wards – and the one that hits all nearby foes whenever you are hit (can’t remember the name)

Ignite arrows – So much nostalgia tied to this skill from all those years ago when I first got GW1. Exploding arrows and an awesome sound effect, what’s not to love?

Penetrating Attack – Epic sound effect on it

Choking Gas
Frozen Soil (Players cannot be revived, there were a few exceptions in GW1)
Keen Arrow
Needling shot
Burning Arrow (Elite)
Distracting shot (Extra recharge on the interrupted skill)
Blackout (Yourself and target cannot use skills for a few seconds)
Throw dirt (Anti Assassin chain, would work great on thieves and warriors, it would be a pulsing blind of course)
Predatory Bond (Shout, you get healed when pet attacks)
Serpent’s Quickness (Your skills recharge faster for a small time)

Edge of Extinction (When a creature dies, all creatures of the same type in the spirits range take X amount of damage) Imagine this in WvW… mmmmmmm. Make each race count separately

Lets just say I miss Rangers being awesome…

I care about how many more they can bring back not specific ones. This game is extremely lacking when it comes to skill builds.

Something that I just remembered, and I hope to see return if/when the Ritualist profession makes a comeback are Item Spells!
I know that warrior banners work similarly, but there’s enough of a difference I feel to warrant a return!
