I’m so proud of Guildwars 2. I’ve bought around 20 copies for people and almost forced them to get into the game due to the amount of content, activities, exploration etc etc etc.

I Also bought Elder Scrolls online, Diablo 3 and played Neverwinter on PC as well as Planetside 2.

I hated Elderscrolls on PC, Neverwinter didn’t feel that much fun so I stopped playing that, Diablo was short lived on PC and Planetside 2 lost me after a week.

When I bought th ePS4 and Xbox one however, I bought the £60 Elderscrolls which is AMAZING on Xbox One..Console just has that “X-factor” that the PC didn’t, I regularly play Diablo 3 on Xbox one due to the fun and feel of a console version and the same goes for PLanetside 2 on PS4 and Neverwinter (although I don’t play Neverwinter anymore because its a bit linear..no exploration really and if you’re going to play a similar game to Elderscrolls, it has to have something that beats it in order to use your time on it which Neverwinter doesn’t have for me)

I know people will say, “hook your pc up to your TV…blah blah..” but that doesn’t work. Even the steam consoles are ropey at best and don’t work anywhere near as well as the consoles.

So playing Guildwars 2 on the PC, I can “feel” how great it would be on Xbox One. I know they’ve talked about it before but I thought it was time to bring it up again especially in the wake of the Windows 10 on Xbox One news as well as the upcoming DirectX12 improvements.

I know the Guildwars team have had a lot on their plate with the Chinese version of GW2 and I don’t expect their workload has lessened especially pre-expansion but i would pay any amount to get Guildwars 2 on Xbox One. I would also buy another 5 copies for the kids who all play too.

Just a thought.:)

Before GW2’s launch Anet had a team looking into a console version of GW2 but for one reason or another they decided that the benefits would not outweigh the resources required. If that was the decision then, I doubt Anet will make a different decision now.

No it wouldn’t. we have been over this for the last 3 years.

Doing so would mean no new content. till the launch of the console version. Also they would have to be on different servers, as every patch would have to go through Microsoft certification first. So if they where in with the PC players, this would make patching both a pain as the PC would have to wait for Microsoft to say everything is ok to go.

As for hooking up your PC to the TV don’t work, I call BS, I do it all the time. and there is nothing wrong with the picture. maybe you need a better TV.

As a controller user, Im currently running it with the xpadder + ICM.
There are 2 main issues:
1. It’s hard to manage the inventory with the right analog stick.
2. Same issue as 1, but with the ground targetting skills while running. (Like necro wells)

On the plus side, the ICM mod holds down your right click as long as you don’t open any menus, so it feels more action-like.

I hope it helps.

Ps: we might have a chance if we could track most of the menues and position the mouse to move on the x,y locations of each window grid, ok/cancel, etc tab. But thats a lot of work and might not be worth it, not to mention any potential uses for malign purposes -.-

To all the people saying this can’t work, I’d like to direct your attention to Final Fantasy XIV. Works, runs, plays, perfectly. It’s also cross-platform.

Edit: And if you think this game has “too many skills” to work on a gamepad, you should see the enormity of skills in that game.

The ground targeting part is true, you can’use it while running.
But the thing about the controller not having enough buttons.. You can easly get up to 40 different combinations pressing 2 keys and it isn’t complicated to do if it’s used by someone who is used to any controller.

60+ combinatins if you hate yourself. Anyways, I see many people saying the controller does not have enough buttons… Sometimes I wonder if the issue lays in the fact that they don’t know how to configure the Xpadder.

Btw, is the word “lays” written correctly? Lol

The combat is completely different. It’s slower in ffxiv. Also you don’t use all your skills even tho you have a lot. You’re rotation mostly includes the same skills over and over. A lot of people even macro skills together in the rotation. But that won’t work in gw2 especially in pvp where you need to switch up your rotation frequently based on the other player’s actions.

GW2 not going to console has many reasons, and i think it shouldn’t ever go to console, but this is pure bullkitten, console versions aren’t created by the creative team, they are created by people who specialise on making alternate versions, this has absolutely no impact on content releases.

The debate is really over keyboard/mouse vs controller. If console gamers were more adapt to using a keyboard and mouse for their console it wouldn’t be much of an issue. However modding the controls to work on a controller is much more problematic. Especially for a game that isn’t designed around the use of a controller.

The only way I can see GW2 going to console is if it was without controller support. Which would make it almost meaningless since most console players have a PC one that can at least support GW2 lowish requirements. Not to mention the outcry of console players for the need of a keyboard and mouse.

The one thing that makes it NOT meant for Xbox

AOE placement.

Just ask anyone who went from PC smite to Xbox smite. It’s awful in comparison.

I have used a controller for many MMORPGs. But with GW2 it’s just not fun. You would think because of the fact you only have around 10 skills + some f keys that it would be easy to keybind to a controller but there’s something about how the camera works that makes it really awkward.

Sure they could touch up on this and make it better for a console but . . . it sounds like a wasted effort when they can be putting effort into further xpacs of the game or looking into fixing old problems to classes etc.

It would also be amazing for PS4. But the problem with SONY is that they require PSPlus for games like this if they don’t have their own subscription model (See Destiny.)

FFXIV did a good job with ground markers on PS4, having a text overlay come up telling the player that they’re in ground targeting mode. (This is also on PC as well.)

I can’t see many MMOs going on console unless they’re shooters or TERA.

TERA is a great candidate because they already have it set up to be played with controller. + the fact that aoe placement is set at so many meters in front of your character.

Meh. Both are miles behind PC in terms of performance for your dollar and overall performance, especially since you have to pay to play online. Unless you really like an exclusive there’s no reason to get either.

As for this topic, Anet really shouldn’t try to develop the game for any other systems. It wouldn’t even run well on either console because of their garbage CPUs. If you really want the authentic xbox one experience, set the game to 720P, 30 FPS, medium settings, plug in an Xbox controller and plug your computer into your TV. Or just plug the computer into the TV and a controller into the computer, your call.

I think that you will find that console gamers spend more on gaming in the long run than pc gamers as the games are a heck of a lot more costly. Also I think you may be in for a sad future as everything will be done on our tvs in the not so distant future anyway. That’s right our computers will be a part of our tvs so you may as well say that is console gaming. It’s actually the PC game makers that will have to adapt, and their players along with it.

Tbh it’s the PC fanboys that give gaming and gamers are bad name in general. :P

I think you’ll find a PC gamer will spend more than a console gamer in the long run, for the following.

1) We can’t buy games second hand. Console gamers can. (and games like CoD are the same price on PC as they are on console.)
2) To keep the best level of graphics, for the same length of time as a console we have to spend the price of a console on just a card.
3)Depending on what sec PC you have to start with, you could end up buying a new graphics cars every 3 years or so, just to keep your games looking as good or better than the console.

Only way this could happen is if ANet decides to port the entire game to an existing multiplatform game engine that supports consoles as well as the PC (lets toss the Mac in as well). As long as they didn’t choose some wonky method to store the game’s art assets (mesh, textures, animations) it could be possible but … it won’t happen.

To match console level graphics you don’t need to upgrade your GPU every 3 years, you need to get a console-level GPU at the start of the generation and call it a day. Right now that means that you need a 7850 to match a PS4 (the more powerful of the two consoles), which is like $65-70. You can upgrade to the latest and greatest every 2-3 years if you so desire, but if you start with something better then the consoles you’ll be ahead of them for the lifetime of the system anyways.

I meant historically console games look better at the age of the console grows, as the devs get better at knowing what the api can do. PC games are different. If you want to keep games looking there best, you might need to upgrade your graphics card often, depending on how much money you have to spend on one at any given time.

Also we all know 90% of the time PC games have better graphics that the console version of the same game.

I meant historically console games look better at the age of the console grows, as the devs get better at knowing what the api can do.

Historically, consoles had- for the time- high end hardware and strange architectures that needed to be learned, but the equivalent PC hardware would always hold up pretty equally. This generation, both consoles are basically midrange PCs from a couple of years ago, so things are different; the hardware is lower-end AND there isn’t as much for the devs to learn.

PC games are different. If you want to keep games looking there best, you might need to upgrade your graphics card often, depending on how much money you have to spend on one at any given time.

Yeah, which is because PC games generally have graphics that can stress the newer hardware. If you want the games to look as good as they look on the consoles, you only need equivalent hardware; if you want the games to look as good as they can, you need high-end hardware.

Look at the new Battlefront game as an example. Does it look all right on consoles? Yeah, although not having games be 1080P in this day and age is absolutely laughable. But, you can get them looking that good (settingswise) on an equivalent PC easily, especially when you knock down the resolution. Then, once you count the cost of playing online, you can absolutely blow either console out of the water for the same amount of cash.

Also we all know 90% of the time PC games have better graphics that the console version of the same game.

Which is what necessitates upgrading, if you want to stay ahead of the curve graphicswise. If you’re just wanting to match the consoles, you don’t need to upgrade.

i dunno how you can say it doesn’t work worth a kittenz hooking up to tv, thats how i play, i dont have a computer monitor, or computer desk, i play on my 55" hdtv 1920×1080 and its beautiful. full screen/or windowed when i need to multitask (i7-4790k/ HD7870 GPU/ 8gig ram) max graphics.

i couldn’t imagine going back to playing on a regular monitor now.
i use mouse and keyboard. i tried the xpadder, and like others said, its just not enough. it could work for a general roaming PVE easy toon like war or ranger, anything that doesn’t rely on ground targeting, or fast twitch movement/rotates.
chatting in guild chat is a problem as well as inventory and stuff like that.

I have to disagree with you. :P

The reaction time compared to mouse when placing an aoe. The lack of control of thumb compared to wrist. It’s very awkward and not as enjoyable or as good by any means.

But I will grant you that movement of the character is actually better. And weapon kits without aoe placement would be living the dream if you’re used to console gaming over PC. But there are far too many kits with aoe placements in them really.

I guess its matter of taste personally i find Elder scrolls games not worth to play on console as you get so to say half a game without mods.
Same thing for controller i guess, some like it some hate it with passion and would play with mouse and keyboard even on console (like me) XD

Had never issue with playing stuff on TV so either your TV sucks or your grafic card or you just lack knowledge to make it worth right.

There is a program called “Pinnacle Game Profiler” all you need to buy is a Microsoft Xbox 360 wireless receiver for windows and it hooks up a controller to your computer. I used to play GW2 with an xbox controller all the time. People already made custom keybinds on the Pinnacle website too for making learning all the buttons on the controller pretty easy.

They’d have to dumb down the game for consoles and split the patches and budget. It would be better if console gamers stopped being cheap and just got a PC and stopped supporting the silly childish console war that’s ruining gaming.

I might have to dispute your reply here:

1 – I don’t know where you live but here you can buy PC games second hand. Sometimes you do need a new code sure, but that can be cheap enough usually. Besides it is going this way for a lot of games on consoles too these days (needing codes, battlefield 3 is a good example).

2 – The average life of a console these days is about 5 years. I have had my current computer for about 3 so far I think, maybe a bit longer. Not yet updated my graphics card. Although I do seriously need to but that is only because when I bought this computer I got a real crappy card with it at the time without realising it. Can’t upgrade it either as I would need a new motherboard I found out so I am better off getting a whole new computer. But this is my 3rd computer I have had and the 1st time I have had this issue.

For some people they can make a computer go for a good 5 years+ and sometimes without any upgrades.

3 – See 2.

Lastly console gamers HAVE to buy a whole new console every time the new one is out. They can’t just change parts here and there. PC players are lucky they can just replace parts as they come out. Again I think PC gamers have it easier right now.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

Just hook it up to a TV and get a TV-dinner table to put your keyboard and mouse on.

Well you are the lucky one. And if you buy a second hand PC game, and need a new code to play it, are you not buying it twice?, yes I am awear that some console games require a code for online play, or to get some features, Mass Effect 2 was the first console game I knew of needing a code for the Cerberus network, where as pc players did not need it. Also PC players have to deal with DRM. But we could go on for a while why we think one has it easier than the other.

The GTX 960 GPU costs ~$200 right now and an i7 is roughly the same depending on the exact model.

Those are the only things you are going to be upgrading on a regular basis (outside of incrementally better SSD’s) and both equal the cost of a brand new console on release day when taken together.

At best it’s equal.

And that’s if socket type has not changed. If it has, you’re almost looking at buying a whole new system. As normally with socket change the ram changes.

You’re not finding an i7 for $200, especially if you want to get a k model (which you should). $220 will get you an i5, though. Less if you don’t get a k model.

Edit: Or you can go used, which will net you an i5+mobo for like $200, no idea how much an i7 will run you. They’re not worth it for gaming, though.
