Kidding but I know that topic will soon invade this post, yes very much so I haven’t played a game where each class has so many interesting abilities that I actually want to play them all. Plus the game looks beautiful.

110% yes.

People who rushed to 80 in two or three days will disagree. But I am having a blast.

With that said, there are an unbelievable amount of bugs in this game, more so than most games. They seem to squash 1 and 10 new ones appear. I do think the game was rushed too, not enough testing within dungeons and higher level areas.

Most definitely ….YES.

I consider Guild Wars 2 to be in the same category as single player games considering it only cost the one-time $60.00……..so cost wise its no different than Mass Effect, Halo, yada yada yada. I have gotten more entertainment hours out of that $60.00 than the majority of those other games combined.

The beauty of GW2 when compared to other MMOs is that if I run out of things to do or am no longer having fun I can just put it on the shelf just like those other games and not feel ‘cheated’ because of some sense of entitlement I may have based on subscription fee. When an expansion or (DLC as I look at it) comes out I will be ready to go. I think the worst part about subscription based MMOs is that people tend to try to validate every hour of every month in terms of “game value” which is just impossible for game designers to fulfill. GW2 does not have that problem…….as long as people think they got $60.00 worth of entertainment out of it then everyone is happy. I personally think GW2 is one the most ‘complete’ $60.00 games I have ever played and I have already reached the point where I am finding less things to keep me occupied.

With the family and my work schedule as it is GW2 works out incredibly for me. When i finally get on i actually have fun and get a few things done.I have played MMO’s since UO and DAoC and too many others to mention and just dont have the 10+ hours a day anymore. It is worth every penny and much more,i would pay a sub.I am used to heavy grinding also from DAoC/Lineage 2 so this game is cake : ). also,at the rate i play it due to a busy schedule content will roll in faster than i can do it,ive burnt out on a million games trying to play them 10+ hours a day.

I’m in no hurry to reach level 80, I’ve barely explored beyond the starting zones, I have tried every class and seen most of the first two “chapters” of each race’s personal stories. There’s enough here to keep me busy until the end of the year, all for $60.

Last week my wife and I went out to dinner and it cost us over $50. It was an enjoyable indulgence, but it only lasted a few hours. Four months of enjoyment for less than $10 more is a very good deal, indeed.

I’d have to say yes, according to modern standards at least, but also no, because there are games with less than half the cost that can give just as much and more playing time.

The game itself does have the potential to be worth every single penny and more though, I give it that, but I really don’t see the developers to be willing to let that potential grow, not the way they treat their playerbase.

The DR system is something Ubisoft would do and the way they are handling the forums is getting closer and closer to Blizzard every day. Those 2 are not good signs for me and are getting me worried.

All in all, I’m kind of neutral at the moment. If the devs manage to wake up and make sure that the game doesn’t punish players in any way and add a couple of mandatory features (like parties in SPvP,seriously…) then I’ll be more than satisfied and will understand the time they require in order to add new content.

But, if they instead decide to focus on a system that they shouldn’t have imposed in the first place, which also happens to punish players more than doing what it’s supposed to, then no, I’d rather I kept that money for some other game.

Yes, I’ve gotten more enjoyment than I expected for my $60 (Ok, let’s say $80 because I spent some money in the shop). In my opinion, ANet has delivered on their goal

ColinJohanson:

Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for.

Even with the money I’ve spent in the shop, I got more value out of this game than Secret World or Diablo 3. SWTOR is close in value right now, because I really enjoyed the few months I played before I started not having fun, but I spent more on it when you factor in the subscription fees. I think the plans for Halloween will probably push GW2 far ahead though.

I have a busy life, I have a full time job, I hang out with my friends who don’t play games (I’m only gamer of the bunch), I have a pretty active social life, therefore I’ve only been able to play for 45 hours in the last 2 weeks. I’m still level 34 with my only char but I love every single minute I’ve spent in Tyria so far.

I think in the next few weeks my life will slow down a little and I’ll be able to play a bit more.

Having said that, yes it’s been worth every cent.

Absolutely. No doubt.

I played “that other game” for 8 years and tried all of the others that attempted to emulate it. GW2, thankfully, has the courage to be different, in a way that I’ve always been looking for.

Before “that other game” I played Star Wars Galaxies (until the NGE). Yes, I was a bit late to the game but the fact remains that it was my first MMO. For all its faults, SWG encouraged players to work together and had great open world PVP (player driven) that would last forever. It was some of the most fun I’d ever had playing video games.

“That other game,” and its clones, encouraged players to work AGAINST one another, and at best tolerate one another in the name of raiding for lewt. That just wasn’t me, so I’d either do it because I wanted to participate with my buddies, or I’d just do the battlegrounds and try to relive the SWG glory days. It never felt the same.

That is, until now. GW2 encourages players to work together and has great large scale pvp. I feel like I’m home again.

To the people who are disappointed, just remember how much “that other game” changed over the years. I have faith that the imperfections of GW2 will be improved once the launch issues have stabilized. It’s all part of any MMO’s evolution. As for now I’m having a great time.

Yes, although I’ve paid way more than $60 and (at this point) the game would have been cheaper with a standard subscription fee.

I’m not suggesting I prefer that, I’m just explaining that with that kind of money I have an expectation for things (like dynamic events, which are the meat of the PvE game) to be working, and the problems don’t just get a free pass with me because GW2 is advertised as being free to play.

Love the game. Want the problems fixed faster, though, before they make me not love the game.

Playing for over two weeks now, and I have managed to get almost 8 hours of actual play time in (plus a few hours tinkering with the crafting/market system), one character, just dinged level 14. Already a better value then a movie, and I expect to definitely get my money’s worth as I approach 80 over the next year, especially since with my schedule I suspect they will add content faster then I can consume it.

I just thought a perspective from a casual player might be interesting to contribute.

The average $60 video game has what, ~40 hours of game-play at the most (and in most cases is not worth replaying)? Guild Wars 2 has endless content, and with no subscription strings attached.

One thing I find absolutely hilarious is people whining about refunds after playing the game. That’s like eating a McDonald’s hamburger and trying to get your money back a week later.

This game is worth much more than $60, I feel like I ripped ANet off.

Yes! simple and clear!
I have a family (wife and 2 kids ages 6 and 2) and work as a traindriver (strange hours and weekends, holidays working) so have a hectic schedule. I sometimes can play 4 hours straight and other day’s i’m lucky to just jump in for 30 minutes. And even some day’s i can’t play at all.
So no monthly fee was a big winner for me, and for the rest, i love the more realistic design and artwork then the design in ‘that other MMO we don’t speak off’, love the way you get rewarded for everything you do (exploring, crafting, questing, helping out others,…..)

So i spend 55 euro for the game, and so far its been the best investment in a game for over a year for me!!

Hells yeah. Like someone else said, I paid the same price for this that I did for Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age 2 and I’ve spent more hours on this than either of those. (though I loved both of those games, too) I took the chance to prepurchase when that option came out, really unsure but hoping for the best, and I couldn’t be happier that I did.

Second best 60 bucks I’ve spent all summer. (the other 60 being half the shared cost of the tablet I got for my birthday)

I bought the basic edition for myself and another for my wife. Beyond that I haven’t spent a dime on the game and we’re both enjoying it. We play the same game you do – you didn’t have to spend more than the basic game costs, you chose to spend the money. You don’t have that choice with a sub-based game.

For example I spent the same amount to buy SWTOR last December and another $60 on a 3 month sub. When my sub ran out I couldn’t play any more, $120 for a piece of software that I cannot access without paying more money. Now I guess it’s free to play but you are restricted from doing things that subbed players can do.

With this game, until the day they shut the servers off I will be able to log in and play anytime I want, and I only spent $60 on it. Any purchases beyond that are optional, and does not entitle you to anything beyond the (virtual) items you are buying.

But for an MMORPG I started out thinking I would play this game for years to come, only to be disappointed I expected a whole lot more.
