We were supposed to have an idea of whats to come this year by the end of January! It was supposed to be similar to https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/
Tomorrow is the first of March, so where is our preview for the year? We haven’t forgot about it and with 5 weeks away for a major mmo release, the clock is ticking on letting many players know what to expect before they move on entirely.

So, we are still on schedule. =)

I forgot. If I ever new in the first place, which I’m not sure I did.

They’re going to have to tell us something at the absolute latest by the end of March. That’s when the Living Story ends and at the moment all we know about future plans is that at some point there will be a feature-only update with no new content. They’re going to have to say something else to keep players looking forward to what’s coming.

Does it really matter that another MMO is coming out? Honestly? New MMOs remind me of those cell phone kiosks in the mall. They always have salesman there that try to get your attention and make you offers and promises; in my case it goes something like: “I get everything right now unlimited for less than $50 a month, can you beat that?” and they say “nope.” and I carry on.

With new MMOs its the same thing, but more along the lines of “Can you offer me all of that without a subscription?” they say “nope.” and I carry on.

Their offers sound great, but not so much better than what I have now that it justifies another monthly bill. Also, in the history of MMOs (GW2 included), when has one launched and not left players thinking maybe they over exaggerated on a few of their promises? “We changed everything you hate and made it everything you love instead!!!111!!1” is the song of MMO release and that is never really what happens.

Anyway, yeah. I don’t expect anyone is especially nervous. But we will probably get some big projection update for future plans at the end of the living story.

This mmo you are talking about has something to do with scrolls? GW2 is in no danger at all. It’s the second worst mmo i ever played right after GW1. Several people from my guild, aswell as friends who got into beta despise it aswell. Yesterday i was trying to give away weekend beta code, no one wanted it. It will sink faster than SWTOR.

I think people are holding out hope for something different from last year. Also ANet usually goes into a bit more detail as to what to expect, some reflection, some inflection etc. At the very least it’s usually a good indication of which way ANet is leaning.

To be fair, people do leave when there’s nothing to look forward to in a sense.

Giving things for the Playerbase to be excited for is fundamental to keeping them around. If you stay silent for too long, even if you shave the most amazing thing ever, people won’t play between the time they left (obviously) and the time you release whatever, and even then, because they weren’t expecting anything interesting anyway, it’s doubtful they’d really pay attention to anything that’s come in the meantime.

hmmmm…. nerf nades again, yes that sounds like a good idea maybe the flamethrower is a little too op right now aswell… its a flamethrower, it needs nerfed for op particles.

perhaps warrior and thiefs could do with a damage buff while were on the subject and guardians and necromancers arent tough enough so could use a bit of a toughness boost.

ok thats the main problems out of the way so now for some minor things: a bugfix to that one engineer trait that noone ever uses and perhaps also make mesmers 23% more confusing to fight.

ah yes and who could forget we also need to ensure more repetetive grind content is introduced, i dont think ive seen much of it

but amongst all these great updates there is also things that wont be so great, the mystic forge will give out useful items and that class you didnt like gets nerfed for apparantly the first time ever

The game being good or bad is irrelevant.

Every new release will generally hit the player base off all competing games a bit and take away players at least temporarily.

With GW2 – due to their business model if less player’s are playing less people are buying gems.

Add into the fact that quite frankly (I am generalizing here) a lot of people are currently unsure and unhappy with GW2’s direction and I would hope they would do something far sooner then the launch time of another game.

To many new games are coming out for Anet to use that type of strategy.

Well, I am extremely jelly that ESO’s version of WvW has 0 lag with more people and a bigger zone while GW2’s somehow turns into a lagfest at all times that stops everyone from using their skills. WTB more optimization now. o.o

Neither of those games are a concern imo. As a huge Elder Scrolls fan, I was deeply disappointed by ESO. Perhaps they thought they were releasing and MMO in 2001….

Wildstar just seems like a “WoW in Space” game and doesn’t feel very interesting to me. I am sure it will interest some folks but it doesn’t seem to pack an exciting factor that can sway people to it. There is no large IP to bring a loyal following either. I think GW2 will keep the seat at the head of the table.

Wildstar seems like a very average game and ESO is quite below average. WoW did great things in its time. Now, trying to do that will leave you with LOTRO, Rift, etc…

I wouldn’t personally compare ESO to GW2 or any other MMO, since it’s very different.
As I am myself a fan of The Elder Scrolls series, I will not participate in MMO world of TES, because I personally believe that TES should never ever hit MMO genre.

GW2 just like any other mmo is unique in it’s own way, but I see no point in saying – hey, ESO is better than GW2.
OMG this is better than GW2. WoW > GW2. etc etc.
For what is this said?
I know loads of people who were playing certain MMOs for 3 years. Awaited something new, jized their pants, flamed this mmo for w/e reason – after the new MMO release, they came back 3 months later.

And I’ll bet even 10bucks, that loads of people who will say bye to GW2 cause of Wildstar, ESO or any other new MMO, will come back here, and will say that the things they did hate before they left, are quite nice and enjoyable.

When I first played the Guild Wars 2 beta, it was a lot of fun. It wasn’t perfect. It had its bugs. But I enjoyed it. I looked forward to the game.

ESO is going to be anything but classy. Hiding an entire profession behind a paywall in a subscription game? Not classy. And that’s before launch. Imagine what it’ll look like a year down the road. Maybe it’ll be as classy as SWToR? lol

I played the game, the game isn’t fun. It’s meh. It’s extremely meh. I know from other posts that you’re feeling disenfranchised by Guild Wars 2 and that you’re not having fun here. I get that completely.

But that won’t do anything to make ESO a fun game. That game is going to go down faster than the Titanic. It’s not really a bad game. It’s just dull.

I’m sorry if I’m leaving a negative impression on you, but I have been here since the launch of GW2, though I did quit a couple of times, but always came back eventually.

It’s just very sad to see this game go to waste and it makes me frustrated that Anet makes all the wrong decisions, while it was featured as a ‘non-grind, non-zerg, non-wow kind of game’.

18 months and nothing got done to avoid zerging at all, nothing got done to promote strategic play both in dungeons as in pvp. Nothing was done to avoid “money = end-game” and all significant additions were gem store content. Instead of expansions we got ‘Living’ Story of a more than dubious quality. World vs. World has seen barely any additions. PvP the same…

Those “big projects” have been referenced over and over again for the past 17 months. They are meaningless marketing hype. I don’t even believe they have these mystical teams they talk about. There are 4 LS teams and that’s pretty much it, I have 17 months of releases to back up that statement…. talk is cheap.

why would they lie? Its not like simply promising these big projects and never delivering them will give them the same karma regardless if they deliver or not.

17 months and i dont think its really that long, I mean LS started 14 months ago and thats assuming everything went smooth and there were no resuffling or borrowing of resources isnt really that much. Considering MMOs generally take between 1.5years – 2years between expansions and without delivering fresh content every two weeks is it really that hard to believe these big projects they’re working on took longer then 17 months to complete?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-01-14-you-thought-that-was-it-for-guild-wars-2

“also as some of the really big projects we’re working on in the background come to fruition, we’re going to see a spike again in users.”

What makes you so sure that “big project” isn’t just the release of the game in China? What makes you think that “big project” isn’t just lip service given to keep players hanging around? What makes you so sure you put stock in what they say when they’ve already established a track record of saying one thing and doing another?

because of the paragraph prior to the one I quoted:

""And we are only available in Europe, North America and Australia. We haven’t launched in China, Korea, Russia, Southeast Asia, Brazil – many of the world’s biggest PC gaming hotbeds are places that the game is not yet even available.

“We’re extremely pumped about adding to each of these regions – we think that that sales number is going to take off again, and we’re going to see a resurgence in territories we are out in as more and more players from other parts of the world get invested. And also as some of the really big projects we’re working on in the background come to fruition, we’re going to see a spike again in users.”

the also implies its in addition to what was said which included release in China.

as for the lip service, well cause I think they’re intelligent enough to know something like that big fires pretty badly.

Which track record would that be exactly?
When they promised Living story would have more permanent content? They did that.
When they promised they’re release the MA and AR dungeons as fractals? they did that!
When they promised they’d move lore from the short stories into the game? they did that (unfortunately kinda liked those short stories)
Its a false perception in my opinion that they never deliver what they promise. Sure somethings they have yet to deliver on like the precursor scavenger hunt for example but its definitely not true that didnt deliver as single thing they promised.

I hadn’t forgotten about the upcoming blog post. Although, even if it had been missed, I’d completely understand. kitten happens, plain and simple really.

As for ESO…. shrug. I’ve read / youtubed so many poor reviews that I was rather let down. It looks beautiful, from what I’ve seen of the beta / sneak peak footage. The gameplay itself though… leaves a lot to be desired from what I’ve seen.

Wildstar….meh. I think WoW has more to fear from that one than GW2. Wildstar (to me) is WoW 2.0 on steroids. WoWers should love it.

I’m also going to point out again that ANet has never user the word promise or the word guarantee in anything they have said they were working on. They also always include as a disclaimer that projected deadlines are always subject to change due to variables such as testing or other technical issues.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

GW2 hasn’t changed very much in over a year. Minimum lack luster updates at best.

If you count the LS – please read no further and it would be an exercise in futility.

Looking Objectively as both games as I have played both quite a bit (Wildstar and GW2) I will tell you this.

Wildstar is what I thought GW2 was going to end up being. I was well aware gw2 would never be gw1 but I had hope at least it would evolve into something great and a hybrid of the current mmorpg style. In didn’t end up that way.

Wildstar is heavily based on GW2 combat but it actually takes it one step further in terms of depth. Combat pve wise in Wildstar blows GW2 out of the water. There is no stack in a corner and win. Or zerg farm everything and win. There are actual tactics and strategy to encounters both solo and group.

One thing I have learned from GW2 is that without a Trinity games end up lacking strategy and combat depth and become nothing more the zerg dps something down. Wildstars trinity is an interesting twist on something many of us have come to love. It brings a new perspective on an old ideal.

If you are a solo player Wildstar has content for you.
If you are a raider Wildstar has content for you.
If you are crafter Wildstar has content for you.
If you are into player housing wildstar has content for you.
If you are into exploring Wildstar has content for you.
If you are a PvPer Wildstar has content for you.

The game is shipping with more content then we have GW2 a year later. Something has to be said about that.
