BS. With the possible exception of Infinite Light, all other exotics are cheaper and much faster to craft – even Volcanus. And a lot of this has to do with the fact that 90% of mats can be bought with gold ie you can trade what you don’t want for something that you want.

There is actually many MF recipes that are far more expensive than crafting Ascended WILL be, once the price of the mats goes down a bit.

Moreover, practically all components of an Ascended weapon are easily farmable. Good luck farming Lodestones and T6 mats, which the most expensive MF recipes require in hundreds.

Wait a few weeks and you can buy all the stuff you need at a good prize on the TP. If nobody buys the materials now the prize will drop. That’s how economy works. So if you try to get smarter you will realize that there is no grind needed. You can also buy the lower cheap tiers and upgrade them with the Mystic Forge. I bought my exotic armor with the loads of karma I have. Also you can buy those nice looking chests in ORR with karma and get some high end materials. I could go on and on and on and… how to easily get stuff. But hey, it’s not my duty to think for you, go try it yourself.

First off all the components for ascended are easily farmable – but they require more time than farming gold or other mats to sell to buy the lodestones for expensive exos and lodestones now drop from champion bags etc so are now even cheaper. Charged used to be more than 3G and now are 2G.

Most importantly, you forget one very important thing – if you want the exotic skin of Mjolnir but the stats of ascended warhammer, you need to craft BOTH.

Thats the kicker.

The only grind there is in GW 2 is legendary. But hey, there has to be some grinding.

The only thing wrong with grind, is when you have to grind in a specific way that is forced on you. What they need to do is open up how you can grind for the items/etc needed for whatever it is that you are looking to accomplish.

A Player likes to do jump puzzles instead of champ farming? They should have the potential to be rewarded for doing those jump puzzles just as much as champ farming.

Like WvW? You should have the potential to get loot as much as a champ farmer, dungeon grinder, etc.

It’s only a grind when you are forced out of what you enjoy doing in game to do something that you don’t enjoy for long periods of time that keeps one from playing the area(s) of the game they enjoy.

It’s what they are trying to do, they are just really, really slow about updating it lol.

Multiply that by how many weapons are needed for a character.

Multiply by the number of lvl 80s you have especially if you have one for each profession.

Theres another thread in which people say there is about a 33% damage increase for ascended weapons (taking into account weapon strength) and for 2H weapons another sigil slot. I would say that is a very big incentive to upgrade all your weapons.

Anet has crossed the rubicon, so to speak. The only way I think they can reverse this decision would be to nerf Ascended weapons or reduce the mats requirements. Option one would incur a lot of player wrath and option two would be backtracking on their well deliberated strategy and Anet doesn’t do that.

Sure you can earn 180 laurels in a month. Coz that’s how many you need for the trinkets. Not to mention loads of gold to craft the backpiece.

OK, now that I have your attention, can someone please show me where the required grind is in this game in order to be able to proceed to the next tier of content? I seem to be having trouble finding it. I tried going into WvW without ascended gear and was able to… is there an ascended only WvW? I visited and helped beat Jormag, assorted invasions, dungeons, jumping puzzles, etc. and haven’t been able to find the gated content beyond those that require ascended gear… can someone point that out to me? Because until I find it I’m having a difficult time accepting that this type of optional grind is anyways close to violating the “not a grindy game” concept ANet originally spoke of. Yes, I see optional grindy things for those that want the longer term goals, but the required stuff… I can’t seem to find it. Help me out people!

At least the stats aren’t that far off. I dont have full ascended on every character. And rings are pretty easy to come by for fracts. + Guild commendations should be ok.

Four of my level 80s entered at level 2 and that’s where I did the vast majority of the leveling process. Besides, you can do WvW fine in rares, exotics, etc. Where’s the gating? Fractals, I done a lot of that in exotics. Don’t see any gear gated required grind in there to proceed. Just the need for agony resist which you get fairly easily.

To be fair, I have Volcanus, Vision of the Mists, The Anomaly, Bolt and Howler, a few Corrupted and Titan’s Vengeance, Ascended Fractal backpiece. Even I am complaining about the upcoming grind for ascended if I choose to embark on it.

And a lot of it has to do with needing to upgrade 80% of the above mentioned into ascended.

I would love to know your strategy. Especially if you can beat Liandri every time you played against her or at least a high win ratio.

Meanwhile I went in COF P1 today with 3 warriors and I was the lone mesmer standing as they couldn’t kill the effigy before dying themselves.

if you buy the stuff like you suggested it will cost a total off:

200g + 80 + 65 + 84g + 40g + 10 dungeon runs +50 skill points

so thats 470g + 10 dungeons runs + 50 skill points.

lets now take off stuff you can buy on an ascended weapon

2.6g + 20 skill points + 5g+ (1.6g/5g) + (32s / 80s) + (1.2g / 3.2g) + 20g + 5g+ (30s / 1.2g) + (24s / 1.2g) + (18s / 1.2g) + ( 60s / 3g) + 5g + 63k karma

So thats a total of 42g + 20 skill points and 63k karma if we go with regular last week prices.
or 53g + 20 skill points + 63k karma if we use crazy inflated prices from today

That still leaves:

500 piles of bloodstone dust
500 empyreal fragments
500 Dragonite Ore
10 dark matter

So
500 piles of bloodstone dust you get from champion bags which drop 30 each ergo you need to kill 17 champions to get those

empyreal fragements drop from lots of things.

Ifs either 20 from dungeons, 2-9 from jumping puzzles, 2 – 5 from mini dungeons, random amount from open world chests etc..
for simplicity sake lets go with 25 dungeon runs since we can measure that easily

dragonnite ore
Temple chests give 30
World bosses give 3-24
lets say 17 temples here for simplicities sake

The most expensive part is dark matter
we need 10 here.

Unfortunately I got 0 experiance and in the forums the best I found was on the positive side: 9 exotics got 12 dark matter and the most negative non 0 entry i found 12 exotics 1 dark matter… so lets go with an average of 1 dark matter per 2 exotics meaning you need 20 exotic items to salvage lets say 2g per exotic making that another 40g

That means we now get

82g + 20 skill points + 63karma 25 dungeons, 17 champions, 17 temples at best
93g + 20 skill points + 63karma 25 dungeons, 17 champions, 17 temples at worst

Ergo going with worst case scenario the question becomes
what is the most grindy

lets assume you do 8000 damage every hit. and ascended weapon would give you a 5% advantage over that means you do 8400 damage instead. Which means you save yourself 1 attack every 20 you do. problem is with 8000 damage liadri would die before you even do the 20 attacks.

Wait a few weeks and you can buy all the stuff you need at a good prize on the TP. If nobody buys the materials now the prize will drop. That’s how economy works. So if you try to get smarter you will realize that there is no grind needed. You can also buy the lower cheap tiers and upgrade them with the Mystic Forge. I bought my exotic armor with the loads of karma I have. Also you can buy those nice looking chests in ORR with karma and get some high end materials. I could go on and on and on and… how to easily get stuff. But hey, it’s not my duty to think for you, go try it yourself.

Multiply that by how many weapons are needed for a character.

Then multiply that by how many pieces of armor you’ll need soon.

Then multiply that by how many sets of armors of different stats you’ll want.

Then multiply that by how many alts you want to gear.

Go try it yourself.

I only have time for two chars. If you have that many chars you can easily do it faster since you clearly have more time.

Nobody asked for a new tier of gear and we CERTAINLY didn’t ask for such ridiculous requirements to create them. Not to mention that the main way to attain them is via crafting, while the drops themselves will have such a miniscule drop rate I bet. You think Anet would’ve learned from when they first introduced Ascended that people hated the fact you could only get the rings from Fractals, but no, they didn’t.

They want to make us happy? New sPvP modes, Re-vamped dungeons, CHALLENGING content that doesn’t zerg=auto win, more weapon and armor skins (weapon skins have actually been pretty good though), non-fugly charr armor, Dueling, Pre-Cursor Scavenger hunt and MOAR SPVP MODES (yes I know I said it twice, but somehow they just don’t get the message).

You dont need to ask for it, there is a thing called consiquence.
Its really simple really. Ascended gear was introduced because Arenanet felt there were enough people asking for vertical progression to warrant it. Unless all those people quit the need didnt vanish. Ergo once those people full gear all their characters there will be this same problem again. Ergo when you’re asking for a small time frame to get a full ascended gear set you’re essentially asking for a new gear tier because arenanet will be forced to do it in order to provide goals for people who dont care for cosmetics. Thats in my opinion much much worst then taking ages to finish a single tier set. Why? because of power creep. A single tier is no big deal, but if we get 2 or 3 arenanet will be forced to do harder content which means new tiers will no longer be completely optional.

They’re already doing that? in 2 weeks time we get the revamped tequalt and from the video it seems very challenging.

Zerg != auto win they did last update that didnt stop people from zerging though, it just had people shouting in map to break the zerg so we could win the event. Zerging isnt something anet can do something about, its a player problem who value greed over anything else.

The only thing wrong with grind, is when you have to grind in a specific way that is forced on you. What they need to do is open up how you can grind for the items/etc needed for whatever it is that you are looking to accomplish.

A Player likes to do jump puzzles instead of champ farming? They should have the potential to be rewarded for doing those jump puzzles just as much as champ farming.

Like WvW? You should have the potential to get loot as much as a champ farmer, dungeon grinder, etc.

It’s only a grind when you are forced out of what you enjoy doing in game to do something that you don’t enjoy for long periods of time that keeps one from playing the area(s) of the game they enjoy.

It’s what they are trying to do, they are just really, really slow about updating it lol.

Make a new character and play from 1 to 80. Can you make ascended gear when you turn 80? No.

How far are you from full exotics? Not far.

How far are you from full ascended? Months. Not even counting the armors to come.

Now tell me this game isn’t about grinding for gear.

Months? Have you actually look up how to get stuff or did you just read a bunch of wrong posts in this thread? I am a casual player (10 hours a week max) and I can manage it in a month.
The only grind there is in GW 2 is legendary. But hey, there has to be some grinding.

I wouldn’t give a kitten if all there is to ascended is the weapon. That’s clearly not the case.

As for Liadri, replace that encounter by any new and difficult content. Not that we’ve had a lot of that, but we will likely have some in the future.

In which you will get naturally by just playing it. I haven’t meet anybody who had to stay on the same level of Fractal and playing it over and over and over again till they got the gear they needed. Everybody I know who went through the fractals, got their gear naturally, without ever having to play the same level over and over and over again. That is why it is not a grind

The joke is on those who will actually try to get those ascended. Not me in any case. I’m done with GW2, as many people, but I did try to give it an honest chance after seeing all my headstart friends leave.

A growing story that I don’t think is going away despite the people who still insist that 460k is a proper success for an mmo.

Logged into my server every place I went had a tiny handful of people, even the main towns were dead and this was during peak hours. Can’t imagine where these 460k are located.

All I logged in for was to test out the newest changes to my class and to the loot system. The loot system looks like it’s received a small polish which is a good start but it simply won’t be enough I don’t think to help people reach their goals with the way they’ve done the enormous number of items needed to make the ascended weapons or gear.

They have to add these items to nodes as well so that people can gather a small portion of them to help offset the months that it’s literally going to take some people to reach these levels, they’ve forgotten 250 was too much and has added the larger 500.

Can people please stop qq’ing over a gear grind, etc… You just need exotic gear to do most of the harder stuff in the game and for Fractals you don’t need the ascended weapons. If you don’t like the way you obtain these weapons, then don’t bother, you don’t need them!

Just play the parts of the game you like and if you don’t like any of them, play another game!
