Holy Grind Wars 2!
To be fair, I have Volcanus, Vision of the Mists, The Anomaly, Bolt and Howler, a few Corrupted and Titan’s Vengeance, Ascended Fractal backpiece. Even I am complaining about the upcoming grind for ascended if I choose to embark on it.
And a lot of it has to do with needing to upgrade 80% of the above mentioned into ascended.
Are you kidding me? what exactly do you find grindy out of the ascended weapon requirements after crafting volcanus and 2 legendaries?
Thats 3 weapons. Volcanus I have to upgrade to ascending. My 2nd legendary was made by G given during the AP rewards along with accumulated stuff in my bank. I bought the precursor cheaply for both. Its not just 10 weapons I have to upgrade to ascended. Probably at least 50 weapons in total.
Do u know math?
I am not exactly sure how that answers my question of what requirements specifically on an ascended weapon you find grindy to get more so then that admittedly extremely impressive arsenal you have that… no truely I am really impressed and cant pick my jaw from the floor yet.
I am more impressed that you can’t divide 500/20.
Like I said vulcanous includes 10 dungeons runs.
Since we’re comparing the grind between vulcanous and an ascended weapons I deducted common elements from both.
Funny how you noticed 15 dungeons runs instead of 25 dungeon runs but had no issue that while intially i said raw material for vulcanous was 470g but then when comparing the grind I listed it as 370g you had no issue with though
Invasions are still on going just they are spaced further apart. If thats not your thing, I am sure theres Frostgorge / Orr train. 370G was your quote and does not take into account all the mats you would accumulate, TP flipping and lucky exo drops.
There is no need to offset each other’s requirements as Volcanus’s COF P1 runs would net you gold, molten cores or even lodestones if you are very lucky whereas dungeons runs made for ascended is only for G and the empyreal. And 500 tokens not equal to 10 Dungeon Runs, even at 500/60 when its 500/69 barring any mishaps.
I made Volcanus some time back (before COF P1 nerf) so historically it would be cheaper than now after patch. At worst currently it would be slightly more grindy than ONE ascended if you are unlucky.
I forgot to include the Exos is at least 1.2G for the glob of Dark Matter. It can range between 20G onwards as the drop is definitely worse than 1/2 and there is no chance for more than one glob.
I am pretty sure basic math is the foundation for logic.
P.S And excess skill points can be converted to G via selling lodestones after combining ores. I also made a ton of G from Orrian Boxes. So G is much easier to come by for the past few weeks whereas the account bound stuff MUST be completed as a time sink.

When their opinion is stated every page for 5 pages yea it does…you stated your opinion pretty far back..to keep trying to negate everyone else’s with the same opinion is definitely trolling.
So I did a little test in the builder how much those ascended weapons you “need” to “grind” for really matters in damage. Let me know if I did something wrong.
1. full berserker warrior without ascended weapons and exotic trinkets:
= 6503 effective power
2. full berserker warrior with ascended weapons and exotic trinkets:
= 6582 effective power = 1.1% increase in effective power
If you don’t feel you really need that 1.1% increase in damage/or the looks don’t grind for it! It’s easy like that…
also, i didn’t say your opinion doesn’t count..nice try putting words in my mouth. Trollin hard.

You keep assuming I am trying to cheat, I am not… here is a run down of all the costs I considered:
I stated:
2.6g + 20 skill points + 5g+ (1.6g/5g) + (32s / 80s) + (1.2g / 3.2g) + 20g + 5g+ (30s / 1.2g) + (24s / 1.2g) + (18s / 1.2g) + ( 60s / 3g) + 5g + 63k karma
That still leaves:
500 piles of bloodstone dust – 17 champions
500 empyreal fragments – 25 dungeon runs.
500 Dragonite Ore – 17 temple runs
10 dark matter – 20g
Thats broken down into:
20 Pile of Crystaline Dust – 2.6g
360 Thermocatalytic Reagent – 5g
1 Augur Crystal – 20 skill points
160 Iron Ingot – 1.6/5g
80 Steel Ingot – 32s / 80s
160 Darksteel Ingot – 1.2g / 3.2g
400 Mithril Ingot – 5g
11 Globs of Ectoplasm – 5g
60 soft Wood Plank – 30s / 1.2g
60 seasoned Wood Plank – 24s / 1.2g
60 Hard Wood Plank – 18s / 1.2g
150 Elder Wood Plank – 60s / 3g
1 Exotic Inscription – 5g
30 Obsidian Shard – 63k karma
Going with inflated prices that equals to 58.2g
ohh seems I did do a mistake in my orginal account I double counted 20g, so its even cheaper then I was saying.
To craft an Ascended weapon you need 58.2g in mats and exotic weapons to break into dark matter
63k karma, 20 skill points, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 25 dungeons
That means the difference between
Vulcanus: 470g + 10 dungeons runs + 50 skill points.
and an Ascended Weapon
58.2g ,63k karma, 20 skill points, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 25 dungeons
is On vulcanus side 416g+30 skill points
and on the Ascended weapon side
63k karma, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 15 dungeons
for your statement to be true that IE its much more grindy to get an ascended weapon then it is to craft vulcanous
416g + 30 skill points would be less grindy to get then
63k karma, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 15 dungeons.
Personally I dont believe thats the case.
And for the 2nd time no one is trying to play with numbers and cheat.
I got to say, i like grinding for stuff, otherwise it feels like you’re handed everything. i love working my kitten off to accomplish something.

Seriously guys they’ve been saying there would be a gear treadmill since October 2012.
If you wanted to quit over gear treamills policy you shouldn’t be here to begin with.
If they do this it’s because there is a lot more people who want this compared to people who don’t, and they already calculated the possibility of the minority quitting over this policy.
They have marketing experts over there, Anet is an industrial company not a group of teenagers.
So if you want to leave over this just do it. These threads change nothing.
I myself am against this but there is nothing remotely comparable on the market right now, and probably for the next decade.
Suck it up and play, or go play another video game.

Take a class or something if you don’t understand what words mean. That’s just something I can’t help you with.

maybe I really dont know the meaning of the word trolling, but for someone to be considered trolling as far as I know his posts have to be out off topic, unrelated, disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing etc…
Lets put it this way, the board defines trolling as:
We define “trolling” as commenting in a manner intended to elicit overly strong negative and emotional responses for mere shock value, attempting to derail threads, persistently posting off-topic, or engaging in personal attacks on another forum member.
As far as I know none of my posts fall under that category.
I only made 1 post in this thread, all the others were replies to people who replied to that post. So not ignoring replies is considered trolling in your books ?

heheh that would definitely be more accurate at least
They throw items at you from the new weapons if you call this a grind then you might call breathing to say alive a type of grind. Have you even tried to get some of these items yet? Or is this more of a jump to constitution before you even tried? If you play for 2 weeks for the time that it takes to craft the main items you should have the full set of items that you need to make these weapons. I guess they could of handed them to you but they did that for most of the items in the game there should be something you need to work for to get.

Well I think this kills this thread pretty soundly. 58g for a weapon using inflated prices. In a week this will be down to ~40g. Hardly a grind, and not even laughably close to a legendary grind.
Ascended is supposed to be the mid step between Exotic and Legendary, and people would like to reach it in one day…
Can people enjoy content without burning it in one hour ?
You are destroying your own experience by rushing it.
Nothing force you to build it in one week.
Nothing force you to equip all your chars with Asc.

I love everyone threatening to quit like anyone cares.
There’s enough people that are totally satisfied with the game to negate all this.
I really, really doubt that.
I doubt your doubt. Regardless, threatening to quit on a game forum is like yelling out in a bar that you’re sick of how girls operate and you’re going to quit dating.
Meh… I already gave up on gearing my 10 80s with ascended trinkets, and limited worrying about it to just 3 characters.
Based on the cost and time involved in this it looks like I’ll have to give up on 2 of those and focus entirely on gearing my main, or simply give up on having best in slot at all.
In the end I guess this is just a psychological problem for people like me in these types of games.
I seem to find it hard to enjoy doing other things in the game as long as I have something in the back of my head somewhere saying “Your character isn’t finished yet. Finish it, then do the other stuff.”
Thinking about it some more… I don’t think I enjoy the gearing process at all. I find getting to BIS to be a chore that I just want to get out of the way, so I can forget about it forever and then play the game because it’s fun. Some kind of OCD maybe? I dunno.
I’ve had an awful lot of fun in this game. I’ve racked up a bit over 2.8K hours since launch based on /age… Asides from my full time job I must admit I pour the majority of my spare time into it. Unfortunately my enthusiasm just seems to drain away when these types of changes come along – I guess I felt pretty similar when the trinkets were first announced too, although they certainly made them much easier to get over time than when they first came along.
Sorry for rant length, I felt like I needed to say this somewhere.
Seriously guys they’ve been saying there would be a gear treadmill since October 2012.
If you wanted to quit over gear treamills policy you shouldn’t be here to begin with.
They said, explicitly, the only grinding in this game would be for cosmetic items.
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”
- Mike O’Brien, President of Arenanet
Does the addition of ascended weapons fall in line with what was said by Mike O’Brien?

Yup, because ascended gear will not be so rare that other players cannot realistically get it, and it won’t take thousand hours to obtain that one item. He described Legendary Weapons spot on though, and those weapons are of the same power as the highest and much much easier and not nearly as rare weapons.

Wrong…again.
You are wrong again.
I loved the last patches, had great fun with the Queen’s gauntlet. I was so close to the game as was wishing for, while being forced to grind in other MMO. Freedom of toon/spec/activity.
But this patch just blew it all out: back to grinding and limited number of toons/specs.
I am a pre-kunark eq player, when /consent allowed others to loot you corpse not drag it. I farmed for my cleric epic. I played many more mmo (l2, daoc, SB, FFXI and many more).
I have grinded enough. I want fun now.
As another pre-kunark eq player I agree with Niobeth. I’ve got one crafting skill to 450, looked at my remaining bank assets, looked at the crafting requirements, and just seen grind. I can throw gold at the problem but I don’t like playing MMOs as one big balance sheet of income and trading. For all the reasons other people have mentioned, I don’t see the game improving through ascended weapons. The only people who like ascended seem to be people who can’t enjoy themselves without a desire for gold and top line items, when in fact we all had top line items last week.
I don’t know, Stooperdale..I just see it as a long term goal, not something I need to get now or tomorrow. I’ll peck away at it when I feel like it. And that’s it.
I did get one crafting profession to 450 today because I had what I needed lying around. Eventually, I’ll either buy or get the mats through playing to go further…but not anytime soon.
It may be ANet but it’s also still NCSoft. Honestly, the game being about grind should’ve been expected.
F2P content centered around a Cash Shop.
Gind, grind and more grind for new shiny skins.
Borderline cheap combat mechanics (stun chaining, stealth, etc.)
WvW where NPCs are involved making it PvPvE.
Welcome to Aion Wars 2
Edit: I forgot about all the RNG.

Pretty much, it cannot really be shaken off that NCSoft just told ANet to streamline the game for the eastern market, as i guess they now bet on WIldstar for the west.

That’s a ton of mats for just one item. But I do like the fact that Anet made ascended weapons craftable. I would’ve quit the game for sure had they made it strictly RNG based. I see the ascended weapons as a goal, not a grind. I can work at it over a long period of time and I don’t feel the need to rush to get the gear because it’s time-gated. Overall, I feel like I actually have a goal for the first time ever, and it’s a goal that will keep me playing for awhile. I already have more than half the materials I need to create an ascended weapon – all I need to do now is just get my weaponsmithing from 81 to 500 with only 2.5 gold. Haha. Time to farm.
I thought we all know this is Grind Wars 2. But from what I saw from this thread, clearly some ppl have not found out yet.

We all have found it, but with every patch they make it more and more grindy. Our hope every single time is that this is the maximum for now and that we can somehow arrange ourselves with it. But alas…new patch, more grind…

You keep assuming I am trying to cheat, I am not… here is a run down of all the costs I considered:
I stated:
2.6g + 20 skill points + 5g+ (1.6g/5g) + (32s / 80s) + (1.2g / 3.2g) + 20g + 5g+ (30s / 1.2g) + (24s / 1.2g) + (18s / 1.2g) + ( 60s / 3g) + 5g + 63k karmaThat still leaves:
500 piles of bloodstone dust – 17 champions
500 empyreal fragments – 25 dungeon runs.
500 Dragonite Ore – 17 temple runs
10 dark matter – 20gThats broken down into:
20 Pile of Crystaline Dust – 2.6g
360 Thermocatalytic Reagent – 5g
1 Augur Crystal – 20 skill points
160 Iron Ingot – 1.6/5g
80 Steel Ingot – 32s / 80s
160 Darksteel Ingot – 1.2g / 3.2g
400 Mithril Ingot – 5g
11 Globs of Ectoplasm – 5g
60 soft Wood Plank – 30s / 1.2g
60 seasoned Wood Plank – 24s / 1.2g
60 Hard Wood Plank – 18s / 1.2g
150 Elder Wood Plank – 60s / 3g
1 Exotic Inscription – 5g
30 Obsidian Shard – 63k karmaGoing with inflated prices that equals to 58.2g
ohh seems I did do a mistake in my orginal account I double counted 20g, so its even cheaper then I was saying. To craft an Ascended weapon you need 58.2g in mats and exotic weapons to break into dark matter
63k karma, 20 skill points, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 25 dungeonsThat means the difference between
Vulcanus: 470g + 10 dungeons runs + 50 skill points.
and an Ascended Weapon
58.2g ,63k karma, 20 skill points, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 25 dungeonsis On vulcanus side 416g+30 skill points
and on the Ascended weapon side
63k karma, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 15 dungeonsfor your statement to be true that IE its much more grindy to get an ascended weapon then it is to craft vulcanous
416g + 30 skill points would be less grindy to get then
63k karma, 17 champions, 17 temple runs and 15 dungeons.
Personally I dont believe thats the case.
And for the 2nd time no one is trying to play with numbers and cheat.
Don’t forget you can get the ore from dragon kills as well. So you don’t even need to touch temples.
Yea, one of the selling points and attractions to GW2 was that it was NOT a grindfest. But they seem to be going back on that, so what’s the point in playing GW2 over others MMOs?
And it still isn’t, no grinding required to play all the content of this game, unlike other MMOs.
Wrong…again.
Actually eisberg.2379 is correct, there is not single content that require Ascended Weapon or heavy grind to do, and every update living world event is open to anyone and everyone, every grindy content (i.e.Legendary, Ascended gear) they are all optional.
The only content that I can think of which require gear check is “high” level fractals, which is totally optional, and low level fractal is still open to anyone.

best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
Let’s assume that Ascended weapons are grind and we want to get rid of it.
We should be fair and remove all grind then.
You need to grind to get rewards in dungeons. So remove the tokens.
You need to grind to get exotic weapons, remove them.
That leaves only rares which are easy to get. So why not remove all the types and just stick with common which we can all get. Since we do not want to grind.
Same with weapons, trinkets, etc..
Then why not just let everyone choice everything they want at the start of the game like PvP. Grinding is gone.
Loot is then only gold, otherwise you can get grinding since we do not want to play a lot of time to get something. Actually, you no longer need gold since you get everything at the start. We can remove that too. Same with karma, laurels and everything else.
We just play content. I haven’t played this kind of boring games but is it Minecraft? (never played it so I can be wrong that there is grind)
I feel like this is an adventure platform game then and not a MMO or is that just me?
And if so are they playing the wrong genre?

Soo, if I get it right then MMO = Grind.
Then those who do not like are playing a genre they don’t like?

People where drawn to this game because it was stated that this game would be “Different” than all other MMO’s in that there would be no need to grind “To Quote Mike Obrien, We don’t make grindy games”
So it’s not that people don’t like the Genre or the Grindy, They just don’t like being sold a product that will involve no grind when it is the complete opposite.

But then again, what you call grinding is something what I don’t call grinding.
So in your eyes they didn’t delivered what was promised but in my eyes they did.
According to wiki:
Guild Wars 2, the sequel to Guild Wars, departs from the formula found in Guild Wars, with a clear gear treadmill. “Exotic” weapons and gear are less powerful than “Ascended” items, and “Legendary” weapons are now and will always be scaled to be more powerful than both of these types. Casual players are unlikely to ever equip Legendary weapons due to the time required to obtain the materials needed to construct a Legendary weapon. Ascended items, whilst being slightly more accessible, will still take days, or even months to equip for a casual player. Nevertheless, gear is not essential to the enjoyment of the game and does not divide a line between casual and hardcore players, relying on skill in order to successfully complete challenges.
The sheer amount of materials required to fashion an ascended weapon is ludicrous. I have read fantasy novels ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper and considering “Stormbringer”, “Excalibur”, “Sting and Glamdring”, “Werewindle”, and “Callandor” nowhere could I find a sword that requires over 800 ingots of metal to create. (not counting all the other materials). One can overlook the 1,500 ingots used to create a Legendary such as Twilight as those are used to create a “Gift of Metal” which then becomes part of the sword’s creation. With Ascended however they do not even bother to hide the grind behind the story of a “Gift”, just throw all this stuff into a forge and you will get a sword light enough for you to wield with special powers.
They could have done it differently and still dragged out the process as long as they wanted to. Clues in the world to special recipes, certain beasts to kill for special reagents, skills that need to be required by practice, and so on.
Sadly game developers have lost the ability to tell stories in their games and to make those stories believable. That lack of believable storytelling is what turns great games into a grind. They take the easy/lazy way out by increasing or inflating the costs for items in materials or gold rather then adding real content and sadly this process exists in all games. A game starts out with great promise; there are new stories to be told; new discoveries to be made that fit the story being told but eventually they reach the point where that story no longer makes any sense. It gets lost in the inflation of gold/materials/time or more commonly known as the grind to fill in the gaps.
Single player games have a finite timeline. They have a beginning and an ending to tell a story and thus can be made to be more believable. MMO’s are meant to be ongoing so the timeline they can encompass does not end. The lack of a good story is filled in by the grind and this is a good example of that. One day, hopefully, a developer will begin to understand that the greater and more believable the story you tell the greater your game will be.
This game does not need more developers, it needs more story tellers.
Grinding isn’t bad, nor should you be annoyed by it if you’re playing an MMO (rpg’s in general). But when you grind consists of crafting EVERYTHING inside mystic toilet/crafting stations and buying all needed mats on TP, that’s where their system becomes the ultimate epic failure of failures.

Up until someone told me that Blizzard made it so that you can see all the raids without having the gear from the previous raid, I didn’t know they did that. But before they did that recently, you had to grind out the current Raid over and over and over again till you can get the gear so you can get to the next fun part, and this has been true for every other MMO I have ever played. Guild Wars 2 is literally the first MMO I have played since 1999, that did not need any kind of grinding in order to get to the fun parts.
Arenanet set out to make a non grindy game, and they did it fantastically. Legendary are not needed for anything, ascended weapons are not needed for anything, ascended gear is only needed for Fractals, and you can get those by just completing the levels and you are not stuck on the same level of fractal till you get gear to get to the next fun part.
So no, it is not the same as every other MMO, which makes you wrong.
