Anet, pls nerf this boss to the ground! Make it dead simple like Shatterer! Or put the kitten thing to an instance! Before April 15th I could not make it to a map where a kill attempt was taking place due to player number cap. Being there 30-40 minutes before the actual fight still wasnt enough to avoid overflow. And now… I had one kill. YAAAAY! And 20+ failed attempts. None of which got further than 95% HP. Its just so hopeless!

People go there and screw things up every way possible. The dead dont rez, too many/few defenders at turrets, turreters not using their skills properly, megalaser fail, etc. People who know the fight are constantly spamming map chat with useful advices, but no1 listens. Either because they dont even bother reading mapchat just run there, turn on autoattack and wait for the loot. Or because they dont speak the language. they have no chance of understanding it in the firast place.

So all in all: any boss-encounter that’s difficulty level is above average-braindead, should take place in an instance. So players can form a capable group, do things coordinatedly, and exclude all those who: dont speak their language, have no knowledge of the fight, refuse to do as told just for the sake of trolling, etc.

No pug raid will ever kill Teq! Well maybe my 1:23 success:failure ratio can be still applied as an average… I’m quitting Teq fights until this is resolved. Which means – to be honest – forever, because I have a feeling that ANET wont do kitten about this. Or probably wont put Teq in an instance. The only realistic solution is to nerf the fight down, so that autoattack heros can win too.

Call this a rant, vote me down or ban or whatever; I dont care… I hate wasting energy on pointless things, especially when other’s attitudes make that thing pointless.

I would really prefer we did not nerf the only thing outside of WvW that requires any semblance of coordination. I kicked Tequila in its rotten rump last night and it was literally with seconds to spare that we won. It was enormously entertaining. All we really need is the ability to switch megaservers.

Over the last few weeks, each attempt has gotten better and better with the mixed up servers… And I’ve finally been in a killing group 4x’s now. Before it? No one was ever there, and the first month when he was reintroduced, the ones I was at never got it below 10%.

Give it some more time. People are still figuring it out. All the fails are with only 25% life remaining, which is better than what it used to be by FAR. Map chat needs to be filled less with people ripping others a new one, or calling everyone names, because that tends to make everyone purposefully lay there dead to kitten off the “yelling” people.

Figure out what times are better kill times… for our time zone it’s the 9pm CST worm. Two megaservers took him out last night that our guild was split across.

and yea, don’t nerf it. I read all the “how tos” but once in the fight, I learned it finally a heck of a lot better than just reading the walk thrus. Now that I get it, it’s a rather good fight.

The problem with teq is that it doesn’t scale nicely. The problem complicated when the participants don’t use power related build, buffs and such against teq itself. It become even worse when the people do not stack on designated spot, it become crazily worse if there is no com to stack on. It become near impossible when the turret users sucks. It become impossible when people do not know what to do.

I have been in PUG maps that succeeded. Don´t tone down the difficulty. 80 percent of GW2 players are probably on the skill level of QD train, it does not matter. Rather have 2 bosses that are rarely completed, there are enough easy things for people to do. Yes, it is frustrating with all these “but I have a job!” casual self-apologists ruining it with their afk-corpsing, manning turrets without having any clue and ability/willingness to read the darn skill description etc. But if this determines the bar, we could as well tone down the whole game to shatterer level so everyone can feel special and wonderful.

I’m 1 for 4 on Teq. All of which have been pug, so they do succeed. Of course, they are more likely to succeed when people simply talk in map chat and coordinate (not bark orders).

I find the instances where people are barking orders, or blaming the turrets for ‘being bad’ (even though no bone wall has popped, and the zerg is being cleansed), or in general are just overly negative fail pretty badly.

Where as the more positive instances go much better. Even if they don’t finish Teq, he at least gets pretty darn close.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Since the 15th patch the price of the tequatl mini has actually fallen by about a gold. He is being completed successfully more often now than before. So in essence, you already got your nerf when they introduced the megaserver.

Pugs kills are harder to come by but higher-tier servers get them done on a daily basis; I know at least that JQ does on NA, and I am sure other servers do it as well (TC, BG, SoR etc.). What you need is leadership and proper organization.

But your best bet is to join one of the guilds/communities that specialise in this. TTS/Att if NA, TxS if EU.

I don’t know how many posters here that have killed teq are from US, but I think partly the reason pugs fail in EU is because the “show only your language” chat option is ON by default. Most people don’t even know about that option there. And even when I knew about it, it tooks some while to remember that chat had its own options.

I have tried teq only twice after megaserver and failed both times and I really think the reason is (mostly) because some people don’t even get the messages on map chat. Some commanders tried speaking french or german but I don’t think it helps if people haven’t touched their chat options.

Last week I killed Teq every day. One fail since 15th patch. We did it one time with only one commander, though usually there is 3-4.
I dont know if its pugs or not, its at least not the same coms every time, and not the same people around me. There is usually some organising though, in english, german and some french, and it seems people listen.
Im not exactly sure how megaserver works ( i dont think any is, including Anet), but to me the trick is to be there at least one hour before, usually Im 1hr 30mins before.
When I do my farm round while waiting, and see “ostkannonen aufpasser 3/5” or something like that, I know theres a chest waiting for me.

Last night our group of FA guilds beat Teq for the first time with 30 sec to spare. It was wonderful. A month’s worth of plugging away every Sunday and steady improvements finally culminated in a successful kill. And we have every intention of doing it again next week.

OP, Teq doesn’t need a nerf. You just need to find some guilds that are dedicated to getting the job done and sticking with it. Don’t be so quick to blame the pugs either. Now that the initial megaserver rush has died down, a lot of the randoms that show up for Teq are people that have some experience and/or are willing to listen and coordinate.

its actually easy now. the problem is you cant get on the map 2 min before event and hope for easy kill. nope, you need to organize with others, you need 4 groups of people.

Basically, with Teq it’s a crapshoot. Unless you are with a guild that can organize an entire megaflow, or the RNG gods favour the megaflow with a sufficient percentage of people capable of listening to a commander, then you will fail.

The Teq mechanics are easy, and repeatable for the most part. Most of the bugs have been ironed out, though one will rear its ugly head once in a while and cost you the win. Because the Teq event has been out for a while, more and more people are familiar with the mechanics of it now. As a result, there are more wins.

Three headed wurm, however, is a different story. Only the mega guilds kill it with any regularity.. and the RNG bugs are more numerous for wurm, costing them wins that they should have had.

I doubt pugs will ever kill wurm.. it requires the coordination of basically the entire megaflow server. And the megaserver mechanics are such that it does not really support 150 like minded people getting into the same megaflow. So wurm is even more of a crapshoot than Teq. It requires more coordination than Teq, and you need voice chat communications to adequately coordinate.. unfortunately, there are a sufficient number of puggers who don’t think they need voice chat, don’t need to pay attention, and think they can just face roll 3 headed wurm and collect their phat lewts. Well, if they are in an organized megaflow with over 90% of the people listening, then the few who don’t listen will win as well.. thus reinforcing their opinion that all they need to do is show up and faceroll and not bother listening.

I bind all of my keys to Gravedigger and rapidly roll my face across the keyboard while screaming
“I am teh Leetness!” at the top of my lungs, while rubbing baby oil all over myself.

I actually wouldn’t mind if the success rate was less than 10%. The game has plenty of easy content, a decent amount of medium content, but hardly anything that requires the entire map to cooperate, notably only The Evolved Wurm and Tequatl fit that category.

I’m therefore in strong disagreement with the OP that there’s an issue. In fact, I’d like to see more bosses like this.

Until the April 15 patch, I was doing Teq regularly. can’t now since I’m only just getting home from work and making food. However, prior to that I was regularly taking him down with a guild that organises runs. They got the hang of it after a couple of misses and now they consistently take him down. In fact they run Teq and Wurm everyday. I’ve also been on a less strictly organised but also successful attempt. I suppose I was very lucky as the server that attempt had a very high proportion of experience players who knew what to do when the commanders called for it.

Megaservers have turned teq runs into very much a RNG thing if you don’t know the guilds or commanders who are experienced at it.

The only fix Tequatl (and the Wurm) need is to the loot, not worth the time spent. If only the Ascended stuff dropped more often, at least the unique items related to the bosses. they are account bound, why did they make them so hard to get? -.- it’s not like precursors, that can be sold and are worth hundreds of gold.

Also a token system would be nice, so after something like 50 kills we would be able to choose a weapon or armor by ourselves instead of this stupid rng drops.

OP, Teq does not need to be nerfed.

Do you come prepared with consumables like ember powder, pet whistle, turret seeds and know when to use them?? Do you use p/v/t armour on attack zerg or zerker armour while on turret defense?? Can you dodge, or know how to stack on a commander, or follow instructions??

If you answer ‘no’ to any of those questions, then you will fail Teq every single time you try. All it takes to kill Teq is 45 players knowing what to do. That is all, 45 players.
This is how you organise:

East turret defense:
10 players (all zerkers) in 2 parties of 5. Any more than this will spawn champs. One party at the shipwreck, the other at the wp. Kill mobs when they spawn, kill fingers when they spawn near the turrets. When defend batteries phase starts all go to North battery.

West turret defense:
10 players (all zerkers) in 2 parties of 5. Any more than this will spawn champs. One party on the hill near the shipwreck, the other at beach. Kill mobs when they spawn, kill fingers when they spawn near the turrets. When defend batteries phase starts all go to West battery.

Attack zerg:
25 players all using p/v/t armour. 4-5 mesmers on fingers, 4-5 guardians with WoR and stability, no hammers! Ele’s drop ice bows and fiery greatswords during Teq vulnerability phases. Warriors bring banners. Always stack on commander, dodge poison fields, waves, use stability. When defend batteries phase starts 10 go to East battery, 10 go to mega-laser. Remaining 5 take care of any fingers. If champ krait spawns at mega-laser all mesmers attack it and call for reinforcements from other defense parties if necessary.

At battery defense it is not necessary to kill the mobs, only aggro them so they don’t attack the battery. On North battery make sure you stomp all the grub holes, you do not want grubs to spawn. Watch the timers and battery health bars, stay at batteries only as long as necessary, no need to kill everything.

During Teq vulnerability phases, all turret defenders join attack zerg for a bit, then run back to defense positions before next mobs and fingers spawn.

Repeat this for each phase. For final attack dps everyone use consumables and ele weapons.

Easy peasy …

EDIT: Just to add, if more than 45 players at the event, all the addons join attack zerg. Do not send more to defense as this will spawn champs. If anyone dies, do not rezz, they must wp then swim/run back to the event.

Actually you dont have to be THAT coordinated. Most important thing is the turret ops and defense team know what they are doing, attack zerg has enough DPS (who also know Teq cannot be crit) and there should be enough time.

My choices are 4am (sleeping because work) 10am (at work) and 7pm (aka when I have to be making/eating dinner with my family). It’s gone from something I could attempt every day at reset to something I have to wait until the weekends to try. Just so we’re clear: 7+ attempts per week down to maybe 2 or 3 if I can manage to be online at the right times on the weekends/assuming I have no obligations or plans or chores etc.

That record, I believe, is currently held by TTS. Current kill record is 9:43 left on the clock. Before that, TTS had a record time of 9:30 left on clock.

Whether or not other servers/guilds have beaten it faster, I dont know, and not sure if Anet can verify.

You never want to afk and the reason for that is if guilds do come in and try to help set up the event to get the map the kill and there people afking and not listening then chances are them guilds aren’t going to try for the kill.

If you get into a map you always want to be listening to the people who are trying to help run the event. There a number of people which has to be alive and ready to kill teq in order for it to have a chance.

There is a BROAD gulf in degree of dedication between “Stand there pressing 1” and “Have to close/leave the game, or spend non-gaming time to go to a website and study the encounter and One True Strategy in detail.”

While I don’t want anything taken from Teq and the Wurm, I’d like other world-boss encounters to be redesigned to be unwinnable vs. “AFK with 1 pressed”, yet be completely manageable if players spend pre-event time talking and coordinating a general battleplan, and are forgiving enough that trial+error (And learning from that error), and some dynamic need for coordination (With windows of opportunity wide enough to get an actually-there zerg swarm to react to, but narrow enough to remain a challenge). Also – they should encourage zerg swarm attempts to have players break off from the engagement to raise fallen players.
