Hopes n Dreams about Expac 2
My one and only wish for this expac is for anet to hire someone competent enough to make armor that fits charr, norn, and asurans.
A new fun and PLAYABLE map for wvw. (desert bdl on launch was a huge fiasco)
Class Balance, it’s still a bloody mess in wvw
One can dream but i won’t hold my breath knowing anet.
Madness Rises [Rise] – Banners Hold.
Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
Not that anyone will ever read this but.
- Consent only open world PvP (voluntary flagging, dueling and guild wars)
- More RP tools (sheet music for instruments, sitting on chairs, leaning on walls, etc.)
- Graphics engine update to DX 11 or even 12
Give me these and I’ll spend 100 bucks on the gem store with a snap of my finger.
Core class get and additional weapon and rebalanced to match elites in strength.
Each class also gets and additionally elite specialization
Balance and unlocking additional skills for underwater while actually having proper underwater content in the expansion.
Less grind people horde because the game is too grindy. People know there going to need an item in the future and a lot of it so they horde.
Flattening of acquisition of runes and sigils they can still vary in difficulty to get but zealots is harder than it needs to be to acquire there are also pvp only stat combos that should be available.
Templates are added
Mounts are added maps like DBL look to be even designed for mounts. However for wvw Id like no mounts and a stable. Set amount of stabled mounts per side not enough for a Zerg or even a party but rather 2-4 for scouting purposes.
Clone death is returned and Mesmer gets short bow
Old content gets nerfed not buffed like they did with HoT
Voting and ptr servers
Living world Season 1 as well as returning maps like Old LA and Cliffs
Enough Content to be deemed a full expansion meaning maps, skills, weapons, new loot tables for trash mobs which includes new trash armor/sigils/runes. Also new seperate city hub enough to get everyone packed up and moved into the new content. Also optional non story related hardcore maps like we saw in GW1 you can’t mix those types of maps with people trying to casually do the story like they did with HoT.

How about gliding skills like Dive attacks, barrel rolls, what about gliding mobs to fight mid air?
Sounds good?

I’m with you 100% on the open world PVP. Additionally it should start at around lvl50 so new players can have time to get used to the game, its rules, mechanics and so on.

sounds great! and the ability to do updrafts by yourself without the need up a wind tornado thing pushing you up.
- Make the battle against the Deep Sea Dragon something, that requires alot of Underwater Combat, before we force the dragon out of the water for the finale with the help of Livia/Scepter of Orr to finish him off on land after we have weakened him under water enough.
They better make dragons battles open-world events (like with mouth of Mordremoth) because honestly story instance with 5 people beating an Elder Dragon is laughable. They are supposed to be extremely powerful magical beings, yet they’re getting destroyed by 5 random adventurers. Sounds legit.
It’d better be that in the last instance of the personal story you’re making use of ‘ALL DRAGONS HAVE A WEAKNESS!’ thing and weaken them significantly, and then the whole zerg kills the dragon. Much more believable.
Speaking of which, DSD battle can take part above and underwater. One/few groups attack him on land, while another has to perform some mechanics underwater. So it will be a real epic battle instead of ‘press 1 while afking on a cliff’.

$100 isn’t that much honestly.
Besides, GW2 already has WvW, which is a map wide PvP arena. PvP has no business in PvE maps, hence why the game modes are separate.

Dungeons related to the personal story in the upcoming expansion (so many opportunities for little side-stories that could have filled so many gaps, like having Malyk show up as a Mordrem or something to show where the other Sylvari went to). They wouldn’t even need to have multiple paths or individual armor/weapon sets even though it would be nice. More 5-man content!
Abaddon fractal
Each map to have a large meta-chain event on one side of the map, and the other side of the map to cycle through events normally so that people don’t feel forced to do the metas. I love the HoT map meta-events and want there to be more, but they shouldn’t take up the entire map.
A mix of Dragon Stand and Silverwastes-style meta event. The introduction of WvW mechanics into PvE was a lot of fun in the Silverwastes, and giving it an end-goal like Dragon Stand with a full map reset after the meta is over would really round it out. That said, the small events regarding a supply chain or something should be completable with only a few people to allow zergs to continue without punishing everyone.
Further separation of tanks, dps, and support. I love the flexibility that GW2 has, but the freewheeling nature ends up decreasing the viability of some types of characters because their role can be covered by someone else who can also provide the portions of the other roles (e.g. Chronotanks should be split between boon providers and actual tanks rather than being capable of doing both at the same time, at least not as effectively. Warriors should have to choose between dps and boon support, etc.)
Build saving! Please!
Rune/Sigil reorganization. For build-switching, sigils and runes are the bane of any inventory because they either force you to waste gold or to have a complete alternate set when there’s really no need. This could potentially be an extension of the wardrobe.
Swords for ele’s!
Practice dummies for guild halls
A wardrobe for tonics similar to the wardrobe for combat finishers so they stop taking up so much freaking space.
Dunno how this would work, but look into allowing dedicated players to design and create dungeons/fractals for you, limited to old events or unrelated items under Anets approval. Community developers are great resources for games like Skyrim, they can be for GW2 as well! It would also help release more content in instances so it wouldn’t affect the larger world, and would fit into the fractal system very well.
Challenge fractals! A subset of fractals where everything is scaled to 100 and you can add continual modifiers for challenges (more enemies, enraged enemies, half-healing, permanent debuffs like poison or something) to be an extra challenge for the real hardcore fractal players.
“Beware he who would deny you access to information,
for in his heart he dreams himself your master.”
After playing wow’s underwater expansion (cataclysm), I know what I DON’T want.
What would be nice is if the player isn’t the Hero of Tyria anymore, and is just another pawn in the world feel. Some other things:
-More armor styles to unlock that are from new dungeons. More raids.
-A new but smaller version of the new WvW maps.
-More new content that’s not given out every three months.
-A raid that deals with destroying an elder dragon, not a whole map full of people for it(not much of my concern).
-OH AND FOR T3 WALLS IN WvW to take more damage.
Not that anyone will ever read this but.
- Consent only open world PvP (voluntary flagging, dueling and guild wars)

For a lot of people it is, actually
From a personal standpoint, yes its absolutely a lot. Its as much as I’ve spent on the game entirely, including buying HoT and the base game back when it was $20. From the company’s standpoint, a single person promising to spend $100 is chump change. Its not enough to sustain the company, not nearly enough to make up for the lost revenue that open world PvP would bring (just knowing it was available would drive some people away from GW2, and those lost sales would easily eclipse the measly $100 OP would pay for it).
When talking about business decisions (aka anything involving people saying they will buy gems), you absolutely have to think about this from ANets standpoint. And from that one, $100 is nothing
How about an expansion that is 100% delivered on the day its launched and not staggered, nor bugged fixed, 6+ months later? After all we are paying for content that is released on that day, not months to a year later.
Honestly, unless they are going to do more of the core dragon story, I am not sure this game will ‘survive’ another expansion if they do another release just like HoT.

@ electricwater:
I have no clue, why you picked now a part of my post for a quote, but I haven’t said any word about it, that the fight against the Deep Sea Dragon should be an instance like against Zhaitan.
But personally I also hope, that itsn ot again such a silly splitted mess like in HoT with partwise instance and partwise Mass Event that you can do only every 2 hours.
Best thing would be, if its next time a “Mass Instance”, because the woudl be the best option that takes the good elements out of both options
1) You are not only like 5 people or alone, but the instance could be made for a balanced number of say maximum 100-250 People (WvW is practically nothign different, the maps are mass instances)
2) And you can do them whenever you want, you don’t have to wait first god darn 2 hours first, before you can fight agaisnt the dragon, you start them and you land just in a queue that collects first enough people to create a new mass instance and adds people to created mass instances for up to 2 minutes after, before it starts to collect again people for a next new mass instance, which is an instances, which scales then up or down regarding how many people are in that instance together.
What Id like to see the Deep Sea Dragon battle to have would be also multiple “Phases” that require different tactics to fight against the dragon to be able to deal serious damage agaisnt him, like this
Phase 1 = Underwater Combat – Weakening Phase by doing everything there to reduce the Mobility of the Dragon, pinpointing it with multiple huge harpoon cannons, so that the wings and the tail can be damaged, until they are cut off
Phase 2 = Underwater Combat – Enraged/Defense Phase, Lots of Minnions come to help after the Dragon gets enraged from getting cut off his extremities, destroying all the harpoon cannons with a huge tidal wave from his enraged movements under water. Here is the sense just to do everything to survive and defeat the multiple waves of minions, until the rage of the dragon stops and no minions waves come anymore, before you can start the final counterattack and the finale
Phase 3: Underwater/On Water Counterattack Phase
After the rage of the dragon has ended and all Minion Waves have been defeated, its time for the final counter attack to weaken the health of the dragon so much, until we break the will/defense of the dragon, by doing an all out attack with ships/sub marines/air ships bombarding the dragons from all sides, while players in the water have to stop the dragon from performing his breath attack, because the mission will fail, if he destroys the whole fleet with his breath attack/his claws.
Phase 4: Finale
after having weakened the dragon enough under water, Livia comes to help with the Scepter of Orr and performs the ancient spell, that was responsible in the past to sink Orr onto the dragon to lift the deep sea dragon out of the water onto the land, further weakening the dragon because now hes not anymore in his natural realm, where we players use then attacks/tactis that exploit the dragon’s weakness to defeat it once and for all, by using one of those attacks in a massive concentrated form against the head of the dragon at a least expected situation to hit him with it fully out of surprise, blastign off its head to see his dead body crush then to the ground…
that would be an epic finale for me
Dont get your hopes up, I’ve heard it’s got as little content as Heart of Thorns. Again it will just be DLC sold as an expansion! but more sPvP orientated in updates.

I picked your quote because you were describing the boss battle with DSD, smth I also wanted to add an opinion on. And since it was about a boss battle, I thought I’d add some thoughts on 5-man instance/map zerg too while I’m at it
Too bad we don’t know anything about DSD and his powers, so it’s hard to tell what kind of battle it would be. But it would be more fun if it’s a dynamic battle where you have to move a lot to survive (and not just afking in a corner lazily while other people do all the work).
The phases you suggested are interesting, I also have a few ideas about that.
- Parallel participation. Few groups that are assigned to perform different things at the same time. Kind of like with Chak Gerent Lanes. Since people speculate DSD might be a hydra, then it’s gonna be a battle against multiple heads. Let say one is underwater, while other 1 is on land and the 3rd one is high in the air spewing poison for example. So some have to go underwater combat mode, while others fight him on land, and the last group has to use gliding to attack him and disable him. Then heads move and everyone has to switch to other mode. So let’s say people who were underwater before have to gliding.
If one group fails their task, then an extra head grows and it becomes harder. This way it becomes crucial that every group performs well.

Dont get your hopes up, I’ve heard it’s got as little content as Heart of Thorns. Again it will just be DLC sold as an expansion! but more sPvP orientated in updates.
I’ve heard it will be sold for $20.
Leaked information may be true, or it may not be true. I highly doubt it will have as little content as HoT did. HoT was feature heavy, and Anet has spent a lot of time developing new tools to allow for faster development time (remember Anet saying something about a dev making a new Ley Line tool for Bloodstone Fen that makes it far easier and faster to put ley lines in maps? Stuff like that), and its reflected in LWS3. We have already received 3 new maps with LWS3, and while none of them were as big as the HoT maps (due to the verticality of those more than anything), they were pretty sizeable nonetheless. I’d be very surprised if the next expac has as little content as HoT did.
Even if it does though, if it is sold for $20 and ANet doesn’t make any promises they can’t keep by launch then it will be a good expac for what you would pay imo
I’d like to see:
- A lot more new zones
- A lot more new armor skins
- Increased value in doing small instance content like dungeons
- More spec viability in PvP. If that takes new elites, that’s fine but I’d be okay with an overhaul meant to make non-elites equivalent
- Nice looking gear that does not require playing every type of content
- Options in xpac and event achievements, e.g., 8 of 10 things to do to get ach, rather than having to do all 8.
- More with crafting- I enjoy it now but would like even more to do: missions, craftable gathering implements (maybe use-limited versions of the gemstore ones), etc.
Stuff that I’m sure I’d enjoy but not expecting or hoping for:
- New class
- New race
- New raids
- New dungeons
- New WvW zones
- Fractals, unless AR is ditched or reworked. Specifically, I don’t like to have to dedicate an ascended set to fractals per armor type (makes it hard to switch between toons). Not saying fractals aren’t enjoyed by folks, just not my thing as currently structured. Not saying you have to dispense with AR either- maybe you have AR per slot per account, or some non-weight-specific AR overlays you can move around to any toon. Or you leave it alone but doubt I’m the only one who doesn’t do fractals for this reason.
Things I’d rather not see devs waste time on:
- Underwater content
- Gear and collections that require players to execute every type of content to get
- Putting most new material behind long time gates or requiring coordinated open-world activities
- Character companions (actually I would like that but not if it was a half-hearted implementation so probably not really worth it)
- Mini-adventures
To put this in terms of HoT, I would have liked the legendary weapon collections to make one type of game play optional (i.,.e., I had to do dungeons, wvw and pve, but could skip fractals, or any combination there-of). I would have preferred if there were more new zones with most of them like VB, but still a few of the harder zones.
And while I like the elite specs, I don’t like that the only viable pvp builds are built around elite specs. Gets old after a while.
Hopes n Dreams about Expac 2
Well there need to be a first expansion before there can be a second…
People are still on the ‘HoT is no (/bad) expansion- bandwagon?
I thought that was settled quite a while ago. HoT turnt out pretty good after it’s postlaunch fixes.
Personally, my biggest dream about Xpac 2 is that they would create a zone/zones with the core GW2 maps in mind. Let me explain what I mean:
Tremendous, big, huge zones. Possibly even just one reeeally big zone (but since it looks like we’ll be fighting 2 different dragons, there’ll probably be more than 1 zone). Unlike the HoT zones, these zones wouldn’t be filled with condi-spamming mobs every 10 steps you take. Instead, like you could in the core maps, you could casually explore the beautiful setting, look at the landscape, marvel at the day/night cycle and hopefully dynamic weather, and really find your mind at peace here. This is what most of the core maps feel like to me, unless there’s a big event going. This, I feel like, is GW2 at it’s best.
So these zones could be roamed casually without danger most of the time, but because these maps are actually huge, wide and spacious (not vertically this time), there would always be a meta-event/events going on in some corner of the zone, taking you across the map, fighting massive scary enemies and so on. Optimally these zones would also have hearts, for more casual adventure and fun. It would be nice if the zone would be divided into different-themed settings, such as a partial forest setting, some sand, some snow et cetera, so that you don’t get bored of seeing the same colours and plants over and over again.
As far as masteries go, these zones could hide a wonderful amount of hidden lairs, dungeons, treehouses, bush-hideouts and whatever one can imagine, and these could be accessed via the masteries. Nothing way too hardcore like some of HoT’s masteries, where you absolutely HAD to grind for that mushroom stealth detection or w/e so that you could get through one chapter in the story. I hope they add alot of masteries, but just for small QoL improvements and mostly just for fun, so that they would stay completely optional instead of turning into a nightmarish grindfarm for points (and XP.)
TL;DR I dream about huge, spacious, diverse and beautiful zones that resemble the original core maps; being able to explore freely without a million mobs everywhere, being able to complete hearts and have fun, but also have some serious meta-events around the map.
First: I want them to be honest about what will be in it. How many zones and approximately how big they will be, how many instances, how many new masteries and so on
Second: the price needs be appropriate for what we get
Third: give us things we can’t already have from the LS. Things like new professions and elite specs for existing ones are prime candidates. New mastery points and new expansion masteries that help make our life in the expansion zones better.
Four: the new skills/specs shouldn’t be more powerful than old ones. Enough with the power creep
Five: The expansion should have something for EVERYONE. Open zones for more casual exploration, action/meta packed zones for where the big action vs the Dragons will be, new fractals, a new Raid, new PVP maps, the third borderland for WvW. Expansions are supposed to cater to the entire playerbase of a game
I would love huge new zones as well, but I also want them to be vertical like VB or AB were. I miss that type of map, and am sad that none of the LWS3 maps have that verticality so far (BF doesn’t really count imo because its just a bunch of floating islands and then a massive cave underneath the ground, its completely different than the entirely separate levels that you can find in VB).
TWO HANDED AXES. Cant be that hard.
That shouldnt be hard at all. Hell they can add it to greatsword users!
Since the public on these forums seems to be obsessed with nerfs, I will speak as one of them and what I hope.
1. End of open world maps, the whole game will be redesigned to instanced fractals style.
2. Without more squads, the content will be limited to 10 players to the maximum.
3. End of WvW, the new WvW will be a “raid” of 10 players against 10 players, the pvp maps can be reused.
4. All classes may use any weapons, and any specialization. Profession will be merely cosmetic.
5. End of personal history, you will write your own story, using standard templates provided by the game limited to 10 chapters.
6. End skin bosses, all bosses will be redrawn flat, like ley-line anomalies.
7. Much less fighting and mobs on the maps, the maps will focus on verticality and jumping.
8. Finally transform GW2 into a mere mobile minigame.
Hopes n Dreams about Expac 2
Well there need to be a first expansion before there can be a second…
Lmfao +1
All of my hopes and dreams died with HoT. I’m more hopeful of a private server of the core game coming out than any new content from ANet until HoT is nerfed and fixed.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/ES-Suggestion-The-Deadeye-FORMAL/
1. The ability to choose between twilight and sunrise skins on my Eternity. I want to use Twilight skin during the day, and sunrise during the night.
2. The ability to obtain all materials for a legendary through any game mode.
A much simpler dream: for at least the announcement to be in 2017 (let alone the release)
Expac2 patronum!
My wishlist has a lot of similarities to ones above:
I would really wish for two new elite specs per profession rather than just one (it’s not entirely out of the question, two elder dragons, two new elite specs?), to really cement build variety, as well as a general reining in of power creep.
More mainhand elite spec weapons rather than two handed. Also land spears, though melee staves went a long way towards scratching that itch. Tomes making a return for a guardian elite spec, a ritualist spiritual successor for necromancer or revenant or both.
Even if we never go back to Cantha or Elona (the ideal), I’d love to see Cantha coming back into the plot in some ways. Particularly the wildlife. I loved the creatures you interacted with and fought there. Even if it’s just Imperial Ministry (or whatever they were called) agents being a meddling faction like the consortium, though I suppose that role is already taken with the white mantle.
I wonder when the deep sea dragon rises might we need to take stewardship of some kind of magical menagerie life raft/ark, I’d enjoy that sort of plan Z conservation project, and since this is my wishlist hehe.
With the new maps, I’d be hoping for something not as complex as verdant brink/tangled depths, my mind can’t tackle the logistics of them, I love the newer living story maps though.
Then echoing the wishes for armour skins, build saving (if only so I can store twice the amount of equipment on all my characters, and switch roles really easily on them), materials storage tab expansion, I’m sure there’s others I can’t think of right now.
I don’t know why everyone always wants a new race as well as more armor sets, it will be one or the other. ANet already has enough trouble making armors that almost fit the current races. It would take them even longer to make new armor sets if they also had to fit on a 6th race, which means we would be getting even fewer armors in the game.
I would love a new race but I’m fairly certain we’ll only get one if Gw3 becomes a thing. With that said, I hope they open up the Tengu area as an explorable area/city (the large walled in space with Tengu guards all around it in the maguuma/kryta area)
If GW3 becomes a thing, AND the story of GW2 ends in failure for the protagonists.
Imagine humans in GW3 being treated the same as the jotun in GW2.
- Traditional questlines (as an addition to the event system)
- Improvements to every skill and trait in the game, with special consideration to skills and traits that don’t see much use
- QoL changes across the board
- Ranger pet improvements (so much work to be done on this one)
- Reduce aftercasts on weapon skills
The one single thing/feature that made me (in a way) addicted to it when the HoT-expac came out was : Gliding
Gliding is A-Nets better version of flying in other MMOs. I was blown away by it.
I want this kind of spectacular experience in the next Expac with another thing/feature, that is missing in GW2 but is wished for and in other MMOs.
But because I do not want to flog a dead horse, I do not say which feature/thing this may could be. Its up to the developers to decide.
- New in game regions (completely explorable):
Far Shiverpeaks, Fire Ring Islands, Janthir Islands, Blood Legion Homeland, Maguma Falls, Crystal Desert, Dominion of Winds.
Each region with Hot level maps, but adding world bosses, minigames, mini dungeons, jps and hearts.
- Two new elite specs per class (too much to ask probably).
- New race Tengu.
- GvG.
- Player housing.
- Circus Charricus.
- Polimock.
- Wvw new borderland.
- Capture the flag pvp mode with 3 new different maps.
- 3v3 and 2v2 arenas.
- Super balance patch.
- 8 new dungeons, each with 3-4 explorable paths and 1 story mode.
- 9 new fractals.
- 4 Raids, each with 3 wings.
- New legendary weapons, armors and backpacks.
- About 15 mastery trait lines, instead of been so grindy have more masteries tiers and lines.
- New disciplines: Fishing, Skinning (lets balance leather prices) and Archaeology.
- More world bosses (some teq and more Hot style (not Lava Wurm).
- 4 Jumping Dungeons! (gigantic , fighting jumping puzzles- related to archaelogy).
- Huge story of the lengh and variety of gw2 core one.
- Pve dueling.
- 2 new zones guild halls and 3 core related ones.
- Supported later with the LS 4.
- Perhaps new features climbing, sprinting and sliding!, with pre expa compatibility work (pretty difficult).
- Wvw siege map!.
- Ascending jewelry crafting.
Pd: One could only hope, but it could be an incredible expa.
