-Charr Thief-
It’s good to be bad!
I would give thieves the ability to steal gold from players and increase the range of every aoe to 60k units.
Describe all effects in “yards”, but have the actual effect sizes be baffling smaller.
Wait, no, that’s Diablo 3. =P
Oh, how about: continue to make jumping platforms designed so that only Asura can accurately scale them.
Wait, no, that’s Dry Top. -_-#
srsly, ANet, stop hating on the big people.
I think a lot of people are misinterpreting (and abusing) this thread for their own agenda. This is about posting ideas you really love but know a lot of people would really hate, not criticizing the game. I’d imagine one of the reasons this thread was created was to make us more aware that we could just as easily ruin the game if we were in control.
For example, I’d personally like to raise the difficulty level to the same point across all the zones in the game. For example, downlevels wouldn’t benefit at all from fighting in low-level zones. Every zone would be equally challenging.
In addition, I’d bring in the good ol’ “corpse run” where you drop all items on death and have to reach your body in time before someone steals them. Also, you lose a portion of experience upon dying. Dropping to level 79 would be a very real risk, and any level 80 equipment would be automatically stripped from your person and added to your bag at the loss. Waypoints would triple or quadruple in cost too.
Oh, and while I’m at it, I’d love to add a map either entirely or mostly underwater at this very moment. Unlike a lot of people, I really enjoy current underwater exploration and combat with any class (except Engineer and Warrior, but only because I haven’t made those classes yet).

How to ruin the game huh….
GW3 Confirmed
I would reduce the PvE\PvP party size from eight, like it was in GW1, down to five.
That way, you and seven of your closest friends can only play WvW (which five of your friends hate, anyway) if you want to play the same game mode together.
Oh, wait…
I think a lot of people are misinterpreting (and abusing) this thread for their own agenda. This is about posting ideas you really love but know a lot of people would really hate
You’re right. I completely misunderstood.
Here’d be my real list:
1. Scrap all ascended gear and return to a hard and fixed power cap.
2. Eliminate dailies completely.
3. Make a goal of nerfing the zerg in WvW. I’d aggressively pursue a balance point where small groups of skilled players could decimate a zerg, but people still find it useful to run in zergs from time to time.
4. Allow players to run one fractal at a time and still get rewards. Allow them to choose which fractal to run.
5. Remove at least 2/3rds of all waypoints in the game, and introduce 60% speed boost, auto-dismount in combat and cities, land-only mounts.
6. Remove all rewards from achievements. Leave achievements for people who really love them, but get rid of the carrot that pulls people who don’t into pursuing them anyway and gives ANet a shortcut to making old content seem new by putting new achievements into the game.
7. Make 2-man versions of all dungeon paths.
8. Make every successful dungeon run yield enough tokens for one piece of equipment.
9. Scrap the linear, living story concept and return to non-linear story contained within the web of DEs across zones, adding more DEs to existing zones and slowly adding new zones (without hearts) to expand this holistic, rather than episodic story.
10. Make playing in pre-80 zones almost as rewarding for a level 80 character as playing in a level 80 zone.
11. Achieve diversity in character appearance by the sheer amount of different possible skins rather than having certain elite, hard-to-get or time-limited skins.
12. Consolidate all the currencies in the game to a much smaller number. The goal here would be that you can earn currencies toward rewards doing pretty much what you want in game. Every reward could be achieved through dedication in DEs, sPvP, WvW, or instanced PvE. Hey, even dedication to mini-games could earn those rewards. I’d completely scrap the design choices that have been made to get people to do some of everything in order to get their rewards and return to “Play how you want” philosophy ArenaNet was still trumpeting only last year.
I know a few people will agree with a few of these items and will ask how they would ruin the game, so here’s my reasoning.
1. Clearly the game would have died without Ascended gear, or ArenaNet never would have implemented it in the first place. Right?
2. So many people say “At this point I just log in to do my dailies”, that removing them would decimate the population.
3. As ArenaNet has said, people like the zerg. Even though WvW isn’t at much of a high approval rating at the moment, there would definitely be an exodus of zerglings when small teams start wiping whole swaths of them.
4. All the fractal regulars have at this point is a sense of being the elite of GW2 PvE. They certainly don’t get much in the way of in-game rewards. Making Fractals this easily accessible would heavily undermine that.
5. See the mount-haters burning down the forums and staging massive anti-mount rallies in LA?
6. Who isn’t going to freak out when I start removing shinies from the game?
7. All the people who hate how single-player the game is will burn me at the stake for this one. The dungeon community hasn’t gotten a new dungeon in a long time, and aren’t getting great rewards either. Now I’ve let the uber-casuals crash their party.
8. Okay, not sure if anyone would care about this at this point. Maybe I should remove it from the list of ways I’d ruin the game.
9. Clearly, this would kill the game. ArenaNet said they tried adding more DEs after launch and the players largely ignored it. It’d use up a bunch of developer resources for not enough return, causing the game to crash and burn.
10. Efficiency players would flock to lower level zones to farm, which would annoy people who want help in Orr as well as players of low level characters working through those zones for the first time. Clearly, rewarding endgame players meaningfully for playing in low level zones would be catastrophic to the game and economy, or ArenaNet would have done it by now instead of trying to keep us all doing temple events and world bosses ad nauseum.
11. Face it, the most die-hard players play MMORPGs like full time jobs because it’s easier than disciplining yourself to achieve something real. Take away the elite, bragging-rights rewards by letting players achieve anything in the game in a reasonable time by playing casually and many of the most ardent players will quickly leave in disgust.
12. Letting people get to their rewards in any area of the game would show that there are some game modes people are just not going to play unless there’s a unique carrot behind them. This would ultimately be good, because ArenaNet would need to either choose to scrap that area altogether or fix the things that keep people from wanting to play it. In the meantime, however, there would be population crashes in some areas of the game, which would kitten off the die-hard players who still want to engage in them.
teach Shatterer to turn right
I would announce an expansion focusing on the NPE and on making the game easier to play for rookies.
Here are my updates.
Gathering
- Increased the amount of gathering nodes, especially the T6 ones
- Gathering nodes of all levels can be found in every single map
- There is only one material of gathering tool left per type (sickle, axe and pick)
- There is no level requirement for those tools
Dungeons
- Heroes were added to assist you in dungeons. Now you can finish the dungeon by yourself.
- The amount of tokens required for armor and weapons is decreased, so that every run should give you at least one item.
- Dungeon tokens can be used to buy precursors as well.
Loot and crafting
- Fine materials now always is an extra drop and the drop rate has been increased. The same goes for rare materials.
- Salvaging armor or weapons will return all materials that were required to make it.
- The mystic forge recipes have been tweaked so that the change for an upgrade has been increased dramatically.
- All time constraints have been removed from crafting ascended items.
- All time constraints have been removed from charging crystals.
- Soulbound and accountbound have been removed.
<.< >.>
While this would doom the economy, I’d be ecstatic for a good two weeks with these changes.
/shame
It would be an awesome single player game
Breasts on female charr to bring in that all-important furry customer base.
Heck, put cat-ears on humans and norn while you’re at it.

introduce mounts into the game
Time gating
- Remove the dailies – they are a chore. Double or compensate with the monthly.
- Remove the timer on charged quartz or make charged quartz tradable (in line with time gated ascended materials).
- Remove the daily dungeon token restriction as account and restore to previous character limit.
- Remove guild missions or rework.
Farming
- Some people actually like farming. Have periodic events that allow for injection of t5/t6 mats. Examples – 1st Crown pavilion. Use and alternate when extensive down periods are expected from the living story.
- Put world temples on timers that start at absolute, instead of relative to completion. Megaservers have warped that timing, making it excessively annoying to unlock traits on multiple alts.
- Lower/remove diminishing returns.
Instancing
- Start numbering overflows and being able to pick existing overflows to join.
Dungeons/Fractals
- Revise rewards for higher end fractals.
- Use some existing dungeons to make into fractals, and fractal portions into dungeons.
Account bound
- Newly added recipes (nomad/zealot/celestial) to be traded or existing crafted armour be made account bound.
Living story
- The usual – skip cutscenes. Achieves on first attempt.
- Actually scrap all that. Remove LS from the game. Retrocon the lore with a dream sequence.
PvP
- Delete Spvp from game. Link Spvp players to gw1.
Items
- Make all items salvagable – notably karma/wvw rewards/adventurers mask. Adjust drops/items/costings prior.
- Introduce new legendaries – kick the can down the road some.
WvW
- Rewards for seasons – An individual and server based reward. The individual reward can be used as an additional token count or used as a gap filler for those on lower ranked servers.
- New maps.
- Alternate rewards for badges that have some monetary value – t5/t6 etc.
- Outnumbered buff now lets you carry 100% more supply.
- Don’t display enemy name on /invite in WvW/eotm
I would actually enjoy the underlined changes….
They actually feel like improvements to me. You sure you were writing for ruining the game? :P
Nice to see this garden of terrible is blooming pretty well, lemme toss some more awful on there:
New weapons and weapon proliferation-
Shotguns/scattergun/blunderbuss
Available for engies (who get some of the current rifle skills moved to shotgun while gaining new rifle skills), Guardians, and Necros.
Pistols now available for Guardians too!
Story-
Retcon Logan’s failure involves heavy gambling debts which he came to DR to help pay off under the orders “Bring us the girl and wipe away the debt”, but it may not be quite what he thinks.
Expansion content:
Scarlet briar is back, and is building a base of operation in a brand new continent! Arenanet and Hasbro are proud to present; Guild Wars 2: Friendship is Magic!
You will join forces with Scarlet Briar because reasons so she can take her rightful place as Equestria’s newest princess!
Oh, we also unlock three new races: Earth Pony, Unicorn, and Pegasus.

(Troy Baker having deja vu “Wait…. is this.. am I at Columb… nevermind”)
Oh, we also unlock three new races: Earth Pony, Unicorn, and Pegasus.
Don’t forget Kelpie aka waterhorse
*Scarlet is back but with pony ears and a unicorn horn. We’ve also made Twilight Arbor 20% cooler and confirmed a FiM tie in with Spike the dragon guiding you through the new “Friendship” path. Can you defeat the army of rabid Bronies insisting everything references My Little Pony and free Tara Strong? Check the Gem Store this week too for the “Cupcakes” finisher.
*Due to popular demand, we’ve removed all gear except Beserker’s from the game and removed the ability to select trait lines. All players will now automatically be traited for Beserker stats. We’ve also recoded every enemy as a structure that cannot take critical damage.
*Children are now able to be picked up and thrown, similar to snowballs and rocks.
*We’re pleased to unveil our first new playable race – Grubs! Choose from Forest, Luminous, or Disgruntled.
*To further aid new players, all characters under level 50 will be accompanied by Trahearne as they traverse the land of Tyria. In addition to offering inspiring quotes, useless information, and random buffs, Trahearne will do less damage than a first level character and die constantly. Reviving him will unlock the "Saved Trahearne’s kitten " collection in which players can earn achieves for reviving Trahearne in various maps.
*Added a new ability for Logan Thackery – Steelguard.
*Because you’ve asked for it, we’re opening a new map in Spring of 2015. Prepare to explore Karka Land – a failed amusement park near Cantha!
*Our next branch of the Living Story will be called “Reach Out To Me” and will focus solely on your character standing there awkwardly while Kasmeer and Majory exchange sappy loving words that you cannot skip through for thirty minutes.
*SAB is returning! Can you defeat Nentindu, the ancient dragon? Join in with all your friends for this 200 man 8-bit raid with an hour long waiting cue!
*Due to popular demand, we’ve decided to make it even harder to join the map your guild/friends are on and have decided all maps instantly cap if more than 20 people join via a party.
Tequatl the Sunless now exclusively drops blue level 80 gear. Also added an achieve "I Fought Teq And All I Got Was This S**t".
*Due to repeated requests to fix armor clipping and fits on Charr characters, we have removed the ability to wear armor from Charr.
*We’ve made WvW mandatory for all players. Check the Gem Store for our new finishers now usable in WvW – L2P N00B and The “Teabag”.
We here at Arena Net hope these changes continue to improve your Guild Wars 2 experience.
You ,sir, have my highest regards! LMAO
If I would want to ruin things and this game then…
I would make Gameforge as Guild Wars 2 Publisher.

Wrong thread I suppose.
I would have Free Trials when enough bugs from the latest Feature patch still are not fixed. And enough current players r displeased and in uproar about the latest Feature patch. Would (also) make interesting chats between trial players and current players.
oh wait…..

Have you ever wondered “what’s the point of gaining exp?” after reaching lvl 80 and already unlocked all skills and want more progression?
Fear not! Upon reaching lvl 80, you will now lose EXP instead of gaining them! Thus begins your ultimate leveling degression experience. As you delevel, you will begin slowly losing access to your armor, weapons, and skills. As you get closer to lvl 1, don’t forget about our NEW Featured Pack update! It will now enhance your deleveling experience by removing your ability to access the Black Lion Trading Post, Diving Goggles, Bank, Guilds, Downed State, salvage kits, and even the Chat window! Hearts that were once completed can now completely be undone by doing the stuff that the npcs don’t want you to do.
Completed the personal story and want more? Don’t worry, this deleveling experience will also continue your personal story, but, instead of rising up from the bottom of the social class to the top as the Commander of the Pact, you will now FALL down as the commander, failing each and every single mission along the way. Experience your character’s final moments and years in great trauma. Witness his/her legacy fall and be reduced from being the Commander of the Pact to a skritt’s slave and dirty pillow.

I guess everyone’s high level gear gets turned into piles of glittering dust for your Skritt Masters pillow stuffing.
In other news flying brooms, watch as thousands of people attempt to fly and fail.
Perhaps it was too subtle?
-Force everyone’s starting weapon to be a stick (melee) and a rock (ranged).
-Time gate everything! Only 1 level allowed per day! Max 10 Gold per day!
-Have the conversion rate of gold to gems set at 1:1 ratio. 1 Gold buys 1 Gem!!!

We all understand that we’re giving ArenaNet ammunition for next April Fools day don’t we ?
Good carr… {muffled silents with sounds of someone being dragged off against his will} “I regret nothing!”……
Ooh! I’d make Living Story a musical! Just imagine…
Ooh! I’d make Living Story a musical! Just imagine…
- Kasmeer singing to Marjory, ‘I Put a Mez on You’.
- Marjory doesn’t sing but she dances to music that sounds remarkably similar to the theme from the 60s TV show ‘Bewitched’.
- Braham singing, ‘Norn to be Wild’.
- Taimi singing ‘The Sound of Science’.
- Rox, of course, would sing ‘Behind Charr Eyes’.
Wait a minute…
…this would be awesome.
To ruin the game
>add mounts; small little mounts barely larger than players and give the mounts horrible gaits so riders (and their camera) jiggle and weave all over. Make the mounts speed just a tad slower than running speed.
>Great Swords should be bigger x3
>add an additional step in collecting TP proceeds; A RNG Wheel with + and – percentages on the pay out. Have a very few larger % payouts and mostly lower percentages. Include a Big Loser slot that takes all the gold.
>Nerf necros with every update. Add an odd buff to only mele skills.
>Buff Thieves so that they have perma stealth.
>Have the Mystic Forge give full disclosure on the out come odds of every forging.
>Great Swords should be bigger x4
>Add Dwarves to the game. But make them vampires, vampires w/ teen angst.
>Add Cantha but only the portions filled w/ sewage.
>Regularly insert an additional currency to the game but don’t support it.
>Great Sowrds gotta be bigger x5
> Add Kamadan to the game and make it a free trade location. Allow and encourage players to shout out WTS and WTB. Ignore all complaints of transactions gone bad.
(edited by Zet.9130)
Force Guild Wars 1 & 2 together, with complete disregard to any kind of graphic incompatibilities.
New Ruination Idea:
- Evon Goes Full Despot Tax. Every day players get taxed 10% of their current gold in their bank. If players have no gold in their bank, every character on their account randomly loses one item from their inventory or their equipped items. Lost gold and items cannot be retrieved in any way.
I would spend the next 12 months delicately crafting five new legendaries of each weapon type, at least a dozen more armor styles per weight (paying particular attention to styles that already exist and making the new styles be as different as possible), and another city as big as divinity’s reach, with all buildings enter-able, voiced dialogue with all NPCs and delivery heart quests crisscrossing that sucker until your run path on the map looked like a dreamcatcher.
Why would this ruin the game? Because with all that crap, who has time for living story content?
Evon’s sneakiest plan yet:
In the middle of Lion’s Arch, there is a golden basin where the lion statue used to be.
“It’s a wishing well!” he says.
Throw in a gold coin, and it returns a random item from anywhere in the game. Yes, even precursors! Knowing RNG, it will return lots of lovely …greys.
The colloquial name for this magical basin?
The Gold Sink. }]:3
I would make all aoe skills affect an unlimited number of players/mobs who happen to cross or get hit by the effect. Goodbye zergs in wvw, don’t let the door hit your kitten on the way out.

That would be a backstab on the server load, game engine has problems to calculate when big numbers apear but yes it would be excellent if that worked.

You can’t do that and not bring back voiced PC’s.
One of your items is now permanently destroyed upon death. Which one is completely random. Is it a glob of gooey goo, or is it your Bifrost? Feel the suspense when you open your inventory to check.
Who’s wasting your precious time? Character names are now colour coded based on the mean time they use to complete dungeon paths. Red for sub-optimal, yellow for meh and green for racy.
create a downed state that interrupts the natural flow pace of combat where players are forced to play a mostly pointless 4-skill mini-game that is completely different from the main combat when they die. Then add obnoxious rally and rez mechanics that allow dead players to be rezzed in 1second and/or to rally from random tags on players/fauna.
