Nah that would be horrible because I’d have to depend on 100+ other people to progress instead of earning it myself.
I disagree with the specifics but I agree the with the sentiment. Acquiring a Legendary should be more than just hoping for a precursor drop and grinding away mats.
Earning one should require something more fulfilling, like a quest for each item. For instance, double-click the Gift of Exploration to summon the spirit of a great Tyrian explorer, asking you to embark on a great journey to do xxxx. Perhaps a task that requires you to visit areas all over Tyria to solve an ancient riddle. End point is a dwarven vault containing a piece of the Legendary. That piece gets forged with another 1-3 items gained in similar fashions. The tasks should require skill and effort, not countless hours farming and a large gold store.

Legendary Quest.
The quest would involve traveling to several different maps, completing tasks/mini-dungeons, collecting things, etc. At the culmination of a small quest arc you would receive a reward from whatever NPC was driving that particular quest arc.
Once you’ve completed several quest arcs and collected the rewards you can put them in the Mystic Forge and make a Gift.
Once you’ve received this Gift you can progress to the next phase of the quest, which involves the quest to find your precursor. Again, this involves visiting several maps, and completing a variety of tasks with a story as backdrop for the whole thing. Once you have completed this section of the quest you are given your precursor.
Gift of Mastery would remain the same.
Gift of Fortune would remain the same.
Gift of (Legendary) would be integrated into the quest
Precursor would be integrated into the quest
Doing it this way would allow ArenaNet to control the hours needed to complete the Legendary Quest, thus still making it very difficult to complete and very rewarding once you finally do. Adding in the story/lore component would make the process far less grindy (and dare I say, fun).
i disagree , Current system is perfect. I own 4 and soon a fifth legendary. All those whining about the current system are lazy persons who want all for free with minimal efforts. If one day they make it easier to make legendaries this will be a major insult to anyone like me who really crafted them. Killing teq or Zhaiten for a piece ?? no way .. press 1 to gain a piece .. pffff come on. Actually i want them to make it harder Actually it’s a bit harder because of the Karma nerf but it’s not enough. Just remove them from the Trading post and it will fix a lot of problems.

Legendaries will never be legendary as long as you can buy them in the TP.
Otherwise, I agree 100% on making the quest to obtain them more diverse and challenging, as opposed to just cash grind.

Well maybe if you care to read announcements that would help.
Scavenger hunt is a very old new when it was only a idea and 1 person at Anet working on that part time. Since then 6-7 new announcement were made to keep us informed.

Not quite on the topic of crafting the legendary but… I don’t think legendary weapons are worth all the effort it takes to gain them. Sure they look awesome and I would love to have one, but that’s it. They look cool. If I wanted a weapon for stats I’ll just craft an ascended. I think Anet should make legendaries better stat wise. Not hugely better but still better then what they are now. This would be a disaster if they were easier to come buy, but they aren’t and so I think this wouldn’t make them “OP”
Legendaries should be account-bound on acquire
which would make them transferrable amongst all your characters
but not sellable.
However, they should only be able to be equipped by characters who have completed their Personal Story.
ie Legendary weps can only be wielded by legendary heroes

I don’t see the issue really.
It’s either you 1) spend your time grinding for a legendary, or you 2) spend your time making money for a legendary. Either way you’ve earned it.
A legendary’s worth is relative to its owner. If you can’t find value in it, no one else will.

No just no. I see enough legendaries already I don’t want to be forced to grind 1 out to have bis items. I already hate the grind of farming money to make multiple sets of armor already we don’t need another bis gear farm.

The problem with this as the current system is that is not “difficult” in the sense that gaining something “legendary” should be. Are grinding mats and hoping on RNG “difficult?” Yes, it’s difficult to put in that amount of time, and difficult to bare. But that is not difficult in the sense of accomplishing something that is legendary. Does someone who goes into work every day doing the same thing over and over again feel legendary? Or does someone who has put knowledge and skills to work in something that accomplishes more than just earning money, like saving a life, or discovering a miracle cure medicine feel legendary? More importantly, which would feel more satisfactory?
The point is, “difficult” is an ambiguous term. It can mean putting in a ton of time doing mindless repetitive tasks, or putting in a ton of time doing complex and unique tasks that give the sense of accomplishment. Those “complaining” about the current system are not lazy, and are certainly not making suggestions requiring minimal effort. They are suggesting alternative means to gain a legendary in a way that actually feels legendary.

Since this seems to be a “we need more grind” thread i would also suggest that Ascended need waaaaaay more Dragonite .. at least 2000 per weapon .. and also only Dragons should drop Dragonit .. that way you know you’ve “worked hard” for your ascended and so you “earned” it

This is a fast post of how I think crafting a legendary should be… and or be added.
Kill Zhiatan = Gain a Piece
Kill Teq = Gain a Piece
Kill 3 Wurms = Gain a Piece
Kill Super Shadow behemoth = Gain a Piece. (ToA was to important to leave out Anet)Put those 4 Pieces in MF gain a Gift (For now lets call it, Gift of heroes)
Place in MF: Gift of Heroes, Precursor, Gift of (legendary weapon) and Gift of Fortune.
Will make Legendarys actually feel more Legendary.
Come out with 4 more World Bosses for a 2nd set of legendarys.
That would be too easy.

If they are “grindy” or not is your decision. I didn’t have to grind for any part of my legendary.
The Precursor though… after collecting all those items slowly I felt so bad for just straight up buying it from the TP. It’s sad to see that there is no solution for the precursor problem in sight.

I just made two tier 6 gifts after saving mats for 4 months.
You grind if you want your legendary ASAP and you have no patience.
I can see and understand both sides of this case.
And I wouldn’t really mind it if they simply added a “legendary quest” to the current cost. As long as it is really well developed fun content, I’d want to be doing it anyway. And it could add some of that “legendary feel”, without making the legendaries any cheaper or easier to get.
Then, people who already have gotten a legendary, wouldn’t be punished. And if you haven’t.. well tough luck. But as a “compensation” you’ll get a ton of great quest content, and you get to feel even more legendary when finally achieving the goal.
And regarding TP and soulbound/accountbound:
Make legendaries accountbound! No more to say. You can make them harder to get, but making them soulbound contradicts everything ANet stands for with GW2. It was a goal for them that people would be using a variety of characters instead of sticking just to one.
They’ve made currency accountbound, WvW rank is going to be soon, more and more ascended gear (meta rewards) is. Just make them a little bit harder to get, while you “compensate” by making the accountbound.
Remove the option to sell/buy precursors and legendaries.
Make precursors partly a reward for “legendary quests” +.a price tag somewhat equal to their current prices on the TP (keep the difference in price: where the most popular costs more than the less popular ones).
To think that my buddies who’ve played the same amount of time as myself have gotten 3-4 precursor drops, and I none, just feels wrong, unfair, and unsatisfying….
