Really depends on how you consider getting it. Plain and simple, you can get the precursor whenever you want. Just depends on what method you choose to attain it.

I think its normal if everyone who played even 1 year got at least a precursor not a whole legendary. Especially now, when t6 cost 4 times more than a zap.

I have too many hours played to not have a precursor as a drop, so its an another AN’s mistake in game mechanics.

Close to 1k hours with Pavillion MF buff during the LS. Got Dusk and gave it to a friend that stopped playing some weeks later. Gave a lot of gold and mats so he could finish it, and he got tired of completing the map

Been waiting a long time now. I’ve had everything waiting and sitting in the bank to make my Legendary, but 1500+ hours is not long enough apparently.

Waiting for the precursor drop is like waiting for the lottery to be won. Just play the game, save the gold and buy it on Trading Post. (until there is Precursor Crafting introduced, you know Soon™)

Well I’ve been playing for 1000 hour’s and have spent about 100g in MF and have not ‘yet’ gotten my Dusk.

I’ve never found a precursor, and rarely get Exotics at all. However, when do people stop complaining about ‘marked’ accounts? It’s basic MATH, there is no boolean saying ‘screw them over? y/n’. You simply have a chance to get one, which is so small that it’s possible you will never get one even after 10.000 hours. Personally I stopped focussing on my legendary and right now I’m just levelling more chars, getting skins etc. Just playing. If I do ever come across one that would be awesome, but I’m not expecting to.

I take back my last comment. 1,842 hours in, and Dusk dropped for me last night from the onscreen chest at Shatt.

I took a random trip to the ’forge just now to have 3 goes with rare level 80 hammers.

2nd attempt, Colossus dropped. RNG at it’s absolute best.

I have a friend who started playing three weeks ago. I’m sure she has less than 100 hours in the game. She has had FOUR precursor drops. It’s unbelievable, but I swear it’s true. Hard to believe that’s random.

What I find strange is that I can farm for 5 hours and buy the cheapest precursor on the TP or I can farm for 75 hours to buy the most expensive precursor on the TP, yet in 8000 hours of gameplay I have only had two drop (one from wvw and one from mystic forge). There seems to be this massive disparity in terms of how many drop and how much they cost. Demand cannot be that low because I see people with legendaries all the time and I am always in discussion with people in the process of making one or more. Something just doesn’t seem right to me. If I can grind the gold to buy a precursor between 5 and 75 hours, depending on which one, how can I go an average of 4000 hours between acquiring one by means other than the tp?

Depending on what precursor you’re after, if you choose to go the buying route, it will either be long, very long, or very very long.

If you go by hoping it’ll be a random drop…well…unless you have an insane amount of luck, never.

Playing a lot of hours does not mean you are actively doing stuff in game. It depends on how many mobs you kill normally. The drop rate for a exotic is very low and out of those exotics you have a small chance of getting a precursor. Farming the money for a precursor varies from person to person. Some player are more effective at making gold than others. ~500 game hours was how long it took to farm for a legendary. Bought 4, mystic forged 1, and had 4 drop (tends to happen right after making a legendary).

After 5000 + hours of game play none have dropped for me from an event or mob. Must state though I have had some from the forge over the last 3 months.
Given up concerning myself with the precursor ‘hunt’. If one drops, I’ll consider it a nice bonus.

Update. She now has SIX precursor drops in less than four weeks playing.
