How many here are playing less? And why?
So I would like to ask:
1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
Me
2. When did you start playing less?
When I realized that ArenaNet changed their game philosophy to include a new gear progression grind. If they thought they were losing people to boredom, I think they will find that they just tried to put out that fire with gasoline by alienating their most loyal fanbase.
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
Yeah when I get on the game all I see is LFG lvl # FotM; I might even like that dungeon if I didn’t have to think about running it endless amount of times to grind for loot. Recently just almost finished gearing my first alt in exotics, and now I do not really see the point of finishing that process or doing dungeons for exotics regardless of their pretty skins when ArenaNet tells me they will all be obsolete eventually.
I spend more time in game than on the forums. My game time in GW2 hasn’t changed since the event.
I personaly stop playing since 2days, and its just the begining.
Why :
- Epic fail skill “balance” who destroy more a class than anything else.
- Inflexible profession build who turn all fight the same and its pretty boring. ( i gave up to lvling all class to lvl 80 because of that, except my mesmer )
Not anymore the rock-paper-scissor spirit like in GW1 ( or nearly invisble )
Stat linked to traits just s*ck ( also 70% of the traits are useless and s*ck )
Gear stat are way too much important here.
- No way to get the a complete end game gear set easyly like in GW1 ( having to grind thoses stupid dungeons / farm materials durings days boring me as hell )
A worse since thoses dungeon are all about dodge timing and not about smart builds and smart skill usage like GW1. And even worse, the team gameplay is nearly invisible except for : target the same mob who have 500k hp to kill it in less that 20min… For god.
- GW2 become a grind fest with the ascended stuff.
But its finaly mostly because the core gameplay, the build creation is too limited ( would do i have to say we dont have choice !? ), too locked down.
Its BORING.
Anet totaly failed what it could have been the best mmo ever to make a WoW clone.
really Sad.

1. I spend more time on the forums than in game now.
2. When I heard about the new patch.
3. For me, it was the newest patch. The implementation of a treadmill, one-time events, poor balance fixes, more grind introduced, lottery chests again, etc. The usual complaints that most people are already going on about. The whole 180 turn on their original vision just to cater to the copy-paste MMO crowd, no communication on their site or in general, poor PR responses without addressing community concerns, and so on and so on.
I figured I’d wait until later in the future to see how this game is doing before I log back in again. Currently not happy with the direction it is going, so I’ll give it a few months and check back to see if things have changed for the better or worse.
As of now, I am playing catch-up in Skyrim. Started a new game and trying to get it all done before Dragonborn DLC comes out.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
About the same as pre-patch.
Just swap explorables for fractals on my playtime. Lvl 14 and need to go further down. Its shockingly addicting.
Because I realized after casually getting to rank 35 for the few games a day I could stand, that the pvp was never going to get any more fun or less zergy and that the most fun I had the entire game was doing Jump Puzzles.
I am playing less. WvW is less fun atm with so many grinding fractals. Also, I have such great concerns over the direction of this game and its gear system, I am not sure that I will enjoy playing long term. I find it hard to log in with such uncertainty.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I play less for some time now, for once I have to prepare the 50th marriage day of my parents and for the other part I have achieved what I feel was achievable with “normal playing” the game and not “working” the game.
At least it will save me some money as I won’t spend anything on gems now.
kittenit, I am going to make an effort not to log into this crappy game for at least a few days. Not like it will hurt arenanet, they have my purchase money.
I will not be spending a half penny in their cash shop ever again.
Also i forget.
I loved PvP, hoh, arena, GvG mainly in GW1.
In GW2, the pvp is bad like hell. doing what ? capping point and doing duel with the same build over and over again ? ahah.
And pvp is mainly bad because of the poor build diversity.

I stopped playing well over a week ago or so. Maybe longer not sure. It was definately before this Lost Shores event.
Main reason was the dungeons just were not for someone like me. Have to say that was the biggest thing that drove me away. I got a character to level 80 and kind of felt, “what do I do now?” At this point I don’t really have a desire to log back in.
Anyhow that’s my answer.
Still playing the same amount of time I was before, but as somebody with 5 alts and playing them all at the same pace, I’ve still yet to really get out of the starter zones, so a lot of the changes didn’t affect me as deeply as it would others.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d still have preferred it if ANet hadn’t introduced the Ascended tier (or at least, kept its stats the same as Exotics), but the changes haven’t impacted on my playstyle or fun enough to stop me from playing.
1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
me. :-)
2. When did you start playing less?
About mid way through Halloween event.
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
Gaming crashing more and more often. So I wait for an update to see if it helps.
These are all problems you guys create in your own heads. I know you won’t understand that.
Adam Baum, sounds like a problem with your own computer.
Playing a lot more, I want my pinks.
Joined 2 Fractal guilds and I’m using gw2lfg.com. Haven’t had a problem finding a group within 10-15 minutes. If I don’t find one, I just do some more exploring and crafting to make money. I also help people in lower Fractals since I’ve still yet to infuse my ascended ring.

. . . considered looking at your RAM? Last time I had an issue like that it was because I lost a chip on one of my sticks.
1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
2. When did you start playing less?
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
1. I rarely ever looked at these forums until the latest patch. I came here to express concern about the change in direction of the game, and try to find out more about what caused it. I’ve stopped logging in other than to say hello to the guild I led to this bait&switch game. Played about 1 hour of the event before realizing the game’s hollow to me now.
2. Weeks ago, but not by choice. Had too much work going on. Now it’s by choice, and almost nil.
3. First work, then ascended gear, but the last straw has really been Anet’s failure to give an honest answer about it. There was never a “legendary gap”. Legendary weapons were just aesthetic, with the same stats as exotic weapons. Attempting to manipulate and lie to fans after betraying their own ideals is just sickening and I can’t stomach supporting such a developer, despite being a huge fanboy of the game up until this patch.
IMO if a company was smart they would do away with offcial forums.
That’s not smart at all it’s just proof that the company doesn’t give a kitten about it’s customers.
Not logged in for a couple of days
Reason; FoTM grind, Lost Shore event disgusts and now PlanetSide 2 offering PvP without PvE grind.
I played GW2 because of it’s innovation in terms of game structure.
Recent changes make me extremely concerned that this is likely to see a reversal as the WoW $ is courted when Pandaria’s gloss wears off in a day or so.
So I have been playing the closed beta of an Asian MMO that is being ported for a western audience (you should be able to work it out if you look around) and I am utterly amazed at the amount of innovative features it has. It may not have the slick UI but it makes up for it in crafting, social and questing gameplay that is well ahead of GW2.
It’s also as pretty, if not prettier than GW2.
Me. I am logging in from time to time to play an alt, but most of the time I play alone on the lower maps cause theres nobody else. I am not going to join that ascended treadmill.
So I would like to ask:
1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
2. When did you start playing less?
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
1. Not logging in game anymore. I still lurk this forum in hope of good news.
2. Lost shore patch, day one.
3. Lost shore patch.
I spent more time writing reviews on Amazon, Target.com, etc. I loved this game before this patch.
Wow. Good point. Going to go do that right now.

1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
I rarely visited the forums previously, now I checking it several times a day… awaiting word from A-net. In the mean time, I’ve logged on a total of 3 times and didn’t stay very long…
2. When did you start playing less?
Let me put it this way… I started playing GW2 at the end of Aug, and I’ve only missed doing my daily achievements 4 times… and since the final event of Lost Shore… I done none.
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
Honestly, it’s not just one single thing.
Ascended Gear – I’m not terribly impressed with the difficulty in getting then… I could live with it, under the assumption that they would eventually (hopefully) implement more paths to get them. I don’t agree that this immediately equals Grindfeast++, but I am concerned it’s the whole frog in a pot of slowly warming water situation.
Fractals – I actually love the dungeons… but detest the fact they’re gated… since I only do dungeons sporadically. I’m also not liking what it seems to be doing to the population of other locations in the game(ie. the lack of) . Again… if it were just this, I’d be annoyed but I’d shrug it off and adapt.
The One Time Event – The event was buggy as kitten, but I’m actually one of the people who actually enjoyed what I managed to catch of the final event. Karka roll attack is actually my favorite enemy attack ever (I lol’d at the massacre on the bridge building event in phase 2… I mean… they all saw the roll attack earlier, shouldn’t they have predicted that one would roll down the bridge?). That said… I had to leave the final event before it finished as it was 8:20am and I had to get to work… When I found out what I missed out on though…
I can understand one-time event. I’ve encountered them on other MMOs in the past. The set items and a high chance of very good loot? That by itself is not terrible… but the fact that they were available to such a limited time that pretty much excluded a good chunk of Asia/Oceania? What gives? At the response of much of the community? “Tough luck”? “You should have skipped work”? “Sleep is for the weak!”? “It’s your own fault your priority is taking care of your kid… what do you mean aren’t you happy?!”?
Community – One of the worse things is the split these things have caused in the community. There are those on BOTH sides that I feel have just gone nasty. Becoming more an more unsympathetic to each other. “Ban everyone who looted the chest multiple times!” “It’s all in your mind! Your concerns as invalid!” “GTFO back to WoW!”. No matter who’s right or wrong, the situation is becoming toxic… And A-Net response… “Here’s a survey” and “Oh yes! Btw there’s a SALE coming up!”
If it were just any one of these things, then I wouldn’t have been impressed… but I would have dealt with it.
All these things combined though. I got angry. I calmed down… now… I just can’t bring myself to enjoy the game. So until something changes… I doubt I’ll be playing much GW2.
Im playing less, because my friend isnt in the game right now, she’s busy IRL..so its sort of boring without her.
Same reasons as OP, and just coming on GW2 forums now in hopes of good news and positive changes. Still hopeful of GW2 to become a better game

I don’t play anymore. As an April prepurchaser living in the US, there’s no way for me to get a refund, but I wouldn’t have tried anyway. The game had issues but I played it enthusiastically for three months. However, I just feel sick at heart at the thought of logging in now, even though I admit I do miss it a great deal.
Why did I stop? Lost Shores Update.
I’m only still here because I’m praying for Arenanet to free itself from whatever internal insanity or external meddling has taken hold and make drastic repairs to the damage that has been done, both to the game and to their credibility. I’m not at all hopeful, but there’s still time to turn back, despite the near total lack of positive signs.

I spent more time writing reviews on Amazon, Target.com, etc. I loved this game before this patch.
Wow. Good point. Going to go do that right now.
Encourage others to do the same. The recent reviews are quite enlightening,
I stopped playing. I gave up on MMORPGs a long time ago, Guild Wars was the exception. Now ANet is taking a steaming dump on their customers and I decided I’d stay out of this until good news crops up.
I login once a day to see if there’s any news, but I don’t expect anything really.
I don’t play that much at all anymore. Though, it isn’t the Lost Shores stuff, as much as i think the event was lame and the only good that came to me out of it was the chest after the boss. But the dynamic events there…. wow. Feels like forever when you fought the ‘reinforcements’ and we had to do it TWICE. After the first time all I was doing was watching tv and hitting 1 and tab.
1. I still check the forums to see if the general consensus is getting better or worse on the game.
2. Two reasons. : 1. An expansion for EQ2, which my wife and I have spent a great deal of time on (so much so that we take occasional breaks from it so we don’t get burned out, entirely) came up so we wanted to check that out, but 2. After I went back (to EQ2 and started reading the forums, more) all I heard was the disappointment about the weekend, and I really couldn’t bring myself to feel like a game was going to be responsible for pinning me down to a time slot where I had to play to enjoy the game more than another time slot that I could schedule for.
3. I found that reason why my wife and I played EQ2 so much, again, because it feels like it has a lot more depth and detail to it than GW2 does. GW2 will always have excellent artwork, I will say that, right away, but the mechanics are just entertaining and won’t hold me for as long as my long-invested game does.
I’m hoping that as GW2 matures, it gets more interesting. As it’s free to play, I’ll be watching out for it and ready to jump in, again.
1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
2. When did you start playing less?
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
1. Playing much less (not at all currently)
2. Since Ascended Items were announced
3. The Character Goals I was working on suddenly became meaningless, and I lost the motivation to log back on
It is hard to get excited for “progression.”
I am just sitting here for a few more weeks, if Anet cannot respond soon I am taking my $60 back and exiting the MMO genre until Titan comes out.
Have been play less since the day after the one-time event. I’m just waiting to see how they will compensate me and thousands of others that never gotten a chance to loot the chest because of crashes, bugs and disconnections. Depending on how they handle this will determine if I continue or just quit. The fractal dungeons are ok but I won’t play them. If I’m forced to farm loot just to be able to do higher level stuff, I’d go back to WoW.
This is not meant as a flame of the game, rather an explanation.
I got in on BWE2, BWE3 and the headstart weekend and had a blast. In many ways this is the best game ever made. Fast forward to 80. Taking the no stat progression thing I’d ground out an OK look on my Sylvari Ranger (vigil + duelist shoulders in dark blues, browns and greys), but still had the problem where the ubiquitous skirts/coats ‘flare out’ on a Sylvari where they hang properly on a human.
Crafting was 400 for both crafts to my satisfaction , but no material gain in this as I could get everything off the TP at material cost. This gave me mostly yellows with a few greens. So I’m endgame, my buddies and I are chewing our way through the dungeons on Sunday evenings – which is the one time that we can all commit the time necessary to complete a story mode. (Bear in mind, the lvl 60 took us 3 hours to complete – do you know just how long 3 hours is when you have a family?)
So, with Orr zones complete, exotics sold and profit already spent, I decide to work through the other zones for world completion while I work on my exotics. Trouble is I’m not gathering enough T6 mats. Solution? Farm Plinx. Yuck, boring, not challenging RNG fest. OK, so I need gold. Solution? Yup, farm Plinx.
So I level an ele to 60 instead. Despite being cautious with cash through the whole thing (lesson learned the last time) now I need some gold for crafting (not got anywhere enough blues) and for the traits book. Solution? Well, to earn the silver I need would take my Ele to 80 and beyond, which isn’t feasible because the class is squishy and needs regular armour upgrades. Oh, look, I should farm Plinx on my main…
<whisper from a friend> Rohan you say? Mounted combat in an MMO? I’ve had a major thing for Rohan since I was old enough to read Tolkein. I’ll give my main a break, after all I have a level 75 champ in LotRO gathering cobwebs in blues (teal, whatever) who’ll whistle through to 85 in no time, then I’ll get back to grinding gold.
In my absence (LotRO geeks will get the reference) it turns out GW2 now stands alongside Turbine’s game as a gear grinder. Now I can no longer play both and compete, I have to pick one. Hmmm, let me see. Both offer a grind, and nothing but a grind, but what about variety?
Example 1: Hytbold, warbands, skirmishes, scalable instances, wardrobe, warsteed, outfit slots, wardrobe, LIs, relics, shards, rep, crafting, crafting rep, Tolkein’s Lore
Example 2: 1 (one) dungeon.
Long story short, forget the mechanics, because I do about 10 mins later. I’m sticking with lotro because it’s a place where you can have a 15 page discussion on Sauron’s moral motives in the forum while fellow players /hail and /saulte you when you help them vs. a bunch of WoW reprobates spamming “LFG lvl X some dungeon, link your exos ‘cos I’ll kick you if you don’t stroke my kitten”.
(edited by Faze.6948)
i’m playing less, but not due to ANets decisions or anything, but simply because real life kicking me in the nuts.
Very nice post. Hope Anet read it and will make some summary.
1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
I comming to form more often now, for reading threads and I’m interesting what has happen with game after LS.
2. When did you start playing less?
Have started playing less after LS event.
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
I have post somewhere here on forums so just copy
“About sveral days try to find any group for “old” dungeons without any success. This new dungeon have killed GW2 Dungeon system. Graz Anet! I remember too many games start like this. Less play – because on high level ppl nothing to do. Can’t farm F@cktal. because their lvl system. I’m still lvl 4, after 1week of dungeon. WvW (RvR) – i have done it too long in WAR, PvP – nothig special (almost as in all games), crafting legendary? With this drop’s chance it’s become not interesting (moreover “old” dungeons is dead). So what I need to do? Make new charachter – but it’s too borring.”
1 Ye, i’m spending more time reading gw2 forums then grind
2 From when i saw fractal lv racism on /Map , and noone care of lower ones. If you don’t find a pug of your level, even your guild is absolutely not interested to waste time carrying you to their level
3 Map fractal lv racism and gear check for higher levels . Funnily, even for old dungeons speedfarm, caused from the better stats gained, making things faster with an ascended team. With ascended armor and weapons, will be way worst.
Most of my guild is still offline 24/7. None of them came back to do FotM. These were some of the dedicated players from GW1, who played constantly long after the game was put on the back burner for GW2 development. Why didn’t Fractals of the Mists float their boat? Probably because they like PvP, and weren’t impressed with either Wv3 or sPvP in GW2.
Me? I am playing marginally less. I am mostly only playing when my roommate wants to play. I still enjoy it when I do play, but the enjoyment is tempered by disappointment that GW2 departed from what I paid for so soon after launch. I am also disappointed that the many events in the open world that are so fun are under-populated.
GW2 was supposed to be about the whole game being endgame. It might still become that way, I’ll wait and see, but I will play less, and won’t pay at all until things change.
1. Same as OP
2. 2 months ago
3. All my friends left. No uniqueness in proffessions and between other players skill & builds-wise. Boring.
(edited by Vakirauta.6397)
No desire to play anymore. I would have made many alts but there is no way I am grinding gear for all of them so why bother? Been playing other games instead. To hell with MMO’s
Hi fellow forum-ers,
Recently, after FotM came out, I have extremely scaled back my time spend in GW2.
So I would like to ask:
1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
2. When did you start playing less?
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
1. Me. Actually before the negation of anets manifesto i spend close to no time in forums, i read some announcements, posted a little in class-forums, but that was it. Now i read and post much more.
2. Exactly after manifestos negation. Sometimes i still log into game, but just wvw, play some, but then i think “its all for naught”and log off.
3. Anets 180° turn. Now when i log in, if i log in, i think: “the day is near, where u have to grind for better gear, to stay on even lvl stat-wise, and this day will come again and again” and then i usually i am done and log off. It completly took the fun away.
GW2 made me buy an iPad mini.
Originally so I could watch video-guides to complicated jumping puzzles or look something up on the internet while playing in full screen mode.
However, with the patch this has shifted more to “so I can play casual games on it while not playing GW2 anymore”.
NCsoft -1
Apple +1
My budget now goes to the app store rather than the gem store.
I am playing just as much as I ever did, and here is why I think I am still happy when some people in this thread are not:
1) I don’t care about rewards. I won’t do anything in game which is not fun, so I basically almost never run dungeons and gave up on getting a legendary weapon as soon as my laughing fit had ended on discovering the amount of grinding required.
2) I PvP a lot, but also PvE a little. tPvP is good fun, as is WvW. Only a few aspects of PvE are fun for me (the odd event, opening new areas, storyline) so I mix those things up to keep myself interested.
3) I do not care what items/achievements other players have. I set my goals to be things I can achieve while having fun. If that means people are higher rank, have more money or have special items and I do not, that doesn’t bother me.
I’ll give you an example – last Friday I was looking forwards to Lost Shores. Friday night and Saturday daytime bored and frustrated me. So for the rest of the weekend I ignored the event completely as not worth my time. Net result, I was happy with the game again by Saturday evening doing a bit of PvP, etc., while others were still getting increasingly frustrated with bugs and poor design of the Lost Shores content.
(edited by Cribbage.2056)
After a one week break I came back to a dead guild.
I have no freaking idea what happened when I was away. All the regulars disappeared, a bunch of people appear to have left.
I still play, but have not been grinding FoTM, finding a party thats of the same level takes too long and if you spam lfg lfg you get suppressed anyway. Not worth the time.
-NaughtyProwler.8653
I don’t know that I’m playing less, but I’ve hardly played my main at all since we first started hearing the news leading up to the November patch.
I was enjoying working towards getting his gear just right (all exotics, with the right stats, and a great look). Now, I can’t see the point of bothering. Already some of his gear has been made obsolete, with the promise of more and more new gear to come, obsoleting the rest of it.
So these last couple of weeks, I’ve been 99% playing low-level alts, which are still fun.
The reasons because i play less, are all related to the new stats tier, before the 13\11 gw2 was and enjoyable game, with the only need of some debug\balance.
It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill"

1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
I seem to log in during my lunch break at work to see if there’s interesting news or to consider the things my partner has written here.
2. When did you start playing less?
I seem to be logging in about once a fortnight since about late September. No particular event coincided with it.
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
Mostly caring less about my characters and the world. Like many I want to feel like I create a lasting impression in the world, and I hope for more than one possible aspiration.
The effects of anything I can achieve in GW2 seem to be eliminated as soon as I am gone, other than what I learn and take away with me.
If I can’t have a nicely persistent MMO world to play in, then I am probably looking for a good story to experience, and I don’t feel that with GW2 right now. I’ve just recently given Star Wars: The Old Republic a go for the first time and have appreciated the story a lot.
Still, the “Forum Game” right now gives me seemingly more persistence, story, and something to take away with me than GW2 does. :p
What is it that keeps me coming back? The community. The people who saw me hanging around Southsun Cove exploring for hidden goodies and went: “hey, it’s you!” in a positive way. The people who I give help to and actually mean it when they say thanks. The two people I did an event at Jolfast’s Waypoint with where we had to have mowed down almost a dozen dozen of Risen but we were too stubborn to stop, until we could get more people there to put it down for good. The small group who I joined up with then doing the Temple of Melandru for my personal first time ever, and were happy to have someone showing up on an off-hour point. The people who tell me “thanks friend” for pointing out Rich Ore Veins.
This was a lovely read and made me smile! Thanks, Tobias.

1. Still come to the forums in the hope we see a non-ambiguous statement from ANet.
2. Started playing less after the announcement of Ascended
3. Lack of motivation due to the introduction of the gear treadmill
