I’m contemplating buying a weapon skin for about 240 gold, but I’m thinking to my self do I really want to blow that much on a skin for 1 weapon. It got me thinking how much have or would people pay for a skin. Some of the skins cost more than legendary precursors.

Since stat items can be gained very cheap all there is valuable are skins.
I would pay 240 gold for a skin. kitten I payed even more. I farmed and forged Infinite Light for the looks only. My finger still twitches weirdly after all charged core refinement I had to do.

It’s all about you. You have to decide how much you want the skin. There’s really not much to spend gold anyway.

Twenty-five to fifty gold max. And it better be a kitten good skin. Otherwise, not a chance. I recently got the wardrobe ‘skin’ achievement, so maybe even less gold now.

I think the most expensive skin I ever bought on the TP was around 20g.

I’ve made two legendaries, that’s about how much I’m willing to pay for a skin.

If I really like the skin i’d pay a reasonable amount of gold for it.

In a game where aesthetic differentiation is a substitution for gear grind go for it. At least you can use it on all toons unlike legendaries. In saying the price of skins has gone through the roof in the last year, thankful I got what I wanted a while back.

approximately 1300 gold. That’s how much the legendary that I’m making is costing me. + sooo much time.

I made a Mjölnir so however much that cost me, 1000 gold maybe?

I’ve paid 10g for one but that was too much.

I think the most I could make myself pay for a skin (not a full weapon) is maybe 60g.

depending on how much i want that skin i would pay any amount possibly reachable. if i want something i will have it. at any cost.

For the most part, I buy the GS skins when they are released. Typically, they go for between 60-70 gold before supply runs out and they skyrocket. I choose GS skins specifically because I use those on my characters more than any other weapon. I have some nice staff skins as well.

Most expensive I bought must be 30g. Those are rare though..

I’d say 100 gold max. I haven’t spent that much on any skin (and I’ve not bought any skins, really) but if I were to go after one I really liked, that would be the absolute max.

Well, considering I crafted a bolt, I’d say close to 2k gold.

I’ve only ever had 240g at one time once, and I would have been hard pressed to spend it all on a single skin. It would have to be a reeeeaaaally awesome skin.

The most I’ve ever spent on an armor set was a couple sets of T3 cultural (119g usually, though I didn’t buy either of the shoulders so I got it a tad cheaper). The most I’ve ever spent for a single weapon skin was around 80g I believe.

I wanted Arthropoda for a long time, but I refused to spend the 120g it was going for. Eventually it got down to about 25g and I finally picked it up (which turned out to be pretty lucky, because a few weeks later collections happened and the price will probably never be that low ever again).

I typically buy stuff like the Black Lion weapon skins early on so that I don’t have to worry about needing to spend insane amounts of gold on them later. Although with the new weapons per class coming out that throws a bit of a wrench into that idea, since I would have loved to grab the Zodiac Greatsword for my Necro had I known Necros would be getting GS at some point, but now I’m out of luck.

1000 gems for a sexy topless chest piece for males seems reasonable.

I’d pay up to 100 gold for a skin I like. Anything above that isnt worth the money to me.

Typically 15g has been my upper limit. I don’t have the g’s to throw away much more than that on a single skin that’s just going to be used to fill wardrobe slots.

For something I intend to use… It would have to REALLY grab me to for me to spend more than 50g on it.

I want to say that I spent about 170 on one of the Halloween weapons this year. The Halloween set was a good investment, imo. 5 skins for a return of 5 tickets, and I actively wanted four of the skins, anyway.

I think the most I came out and spent on one skin was around 65g, but depending on how good I think it looks and how bad I want it, I’d be willing to spend more. Can’t say I’d spend over 1k gold on a skin, but I can’t fault anyone for paying it.

Seriously and without sarcasm. You don’t have to answer it for anyone on the forum, but you should ask yourself. If you have the $$, and you want it more than other stuff, why not?

1 run of cof p1 is enough for my food and oil for wvw a day which is what I really “need” gold for, every other gold I earn goes to getting ascended gear, bank/bag slots which I’m done with, so the answer for skins, whatever gold I can earn , since there isn’t anyhing else for me in this game except for actually playing it to enjoy it.

For me it’s not an absolute value but a percentage of my gold on hand. RL I have a “whim level” that fluctuates. That’s how much I’ll spend on something just because I like it at the moment and think I’ll later regret passing it up. In college when I had no income that was maybe fifty cents. While working with solid income it ranged from 200 dollars to a thousand for something really cool.

Similar rules apply to buying stuff in game. If I have under 100 gold I get iffy about spending over 5-10 gold on any one thing. The one time I got over 400 gold I quickly spent over 100 of that on various things and continued willing to splurge until I was back below 200 again. I won’t spend gems on gold as a rule, except for super special occasions or for small amounts to flesh out a purchase. So my gold-in-hand determines my whim level.

So how much will I spend on a skin? Not so much that I feel I spent an enormous amount of my reserves.

And sometimes if it’s a really nice skin, the “will I regret missing it later” kicks in and my spending gets more generous.

I don’t know. When I make a legendary, it’s partially for the skin, but it’s also largely because it’s…

1. Highest level stats (tied with ascended)
2. Account bound
3. Lets me change the stat combo anytime I want (outside of combat)

So, I don’t consider the amount of gold I spent making my legendaries to be what I’d pay for just a skin.

Most BLC skins are about 60G to 100G for the newer ones they tend to go up after they lose there discount price. Most BL skins for wepon that come from the BL it self tend to be in the 80G ranges same with armor. Only the older skins and legendarily are the worst prices.

OP it doesn’t really matter what other people feel something is worth. It only matters what it’s worth to you. If you really like the look of the skin and it completes the look you want, then go for it. Expensive skins tend to increase in price over time, so if you decide you want it later, it’ll probably cost you more.

That being said, if it’s all the gold you have, I wouldn’t personally. I would use that gold to work for me by buying skins and then wait for those to go up in price and sell them. I don’t farm much at all, so I like having my gold work for me.

If you farm a lot though and don’t mind farming more, go for it. This is a game. If you would enjoy it more with that skin then it’s worth it

I spent 225 gold on a skin, and about 170 for another. I don’t really have much to spend my gold on, so I get skins that make me happy with how my character looks.

Preach it, ma bruthah! I love my Infinite Light way more than any Legendary. The Sword of Hayfever > than all others.

240 gold sounds a little steep, but if you can’t work towards it other ways, you might just put in the highest offer and check that you are still the highest offer every day. I buy a lot of the exotic dyes that way and usually save a fair amount compared to clicking ‘buy now’ even if it takes 2-5 days to get what I want.

Depends on how often I’d use said skin. I spent something like 180g for a chaos axe skin, and whilst it was a lot of money for me, I did end up using it a lot – for my necro and warrior in particular.

I have, however, made many bad decisions on skins I thought I’d use, but in the end, didn’t. Like the time I bought a dreamthistle staff and dreamthistle greatsword skin (both well over 320g each at the time). I still use the staff (only on my necro), but haven’t used the greatsword skin.

In the end, I would weigh up whether or not you’d REALLY use it, and if you really like it. For me, the chaos axe looks so amazing it was well worth it.

Also, I would definitely pay up to 2k gems for a lord faren speedo skin for my human chars.

Biggest mistake I have made is using a makeover kit to change body type, which then made a lot of skins look terrible.

On topic, I’d personally pay no more than 100g for a single skin, but I’d much rather do whatever it takes to not simply buy it. I’m one of those strange players that likes to actually earn a reward via a challenge, even if farming gold to buy it is faster overall.

I would pay up to 15% of my total amount of gold at any point. 15% if it was really awesome. If I ever earn tons of gold I’ll buy some of the ridiculously priced skins.

if you like it, buy it its your gold and money. Just make sure you really really like it…i wasted alot of money to get some crimson lion skins that i never use anymore
