Q:
How much have you spent on this game?
Hmm, none at the moment, thinking of spending whatever 1800 gems is to switch servers.
Between the wife and I, around $100 in gems.
Probably around $100 including a server transfer for both my boyfriend and I. Then some on silly town costumes/instruments/etc.
The initial box cost and nothing more. Now that I think about it, I could’ve bought about 10 books with that money instead. I regret not buying the books instead, honestly.
$60, for the game itself. I have proudly not used a single dollar to buy gems, and I don’t intend ever to do so.
I’ve paid my money for this game, stop telling me to “support it”, defending crappy RNG practices and overpriced goods.
I’m not criticizing GW2 itself, this game is AWESOME! But the monetization….
Unless anything has changed since they introduced Black Lion Ticket Scraps, they are one of the most unethical business practices I’ve ever seen in the gemstore. Their drop rate are so low, the intention isn’t to give us a fair chance, but rather their sheer existence is to trap people into opening more chests, pressuring them to gamble even more with hopes of collecting 10 scraps.
And then they actually expect some people to collect 7 Black Lion Tickets? For a single weapon skin? Really? How much does that equate in USD? Seriously, I’m asking the question. Someone calculate how much USD on average it costs to collect 7 tickets, then tell me if you’re willing to spend that much money.
Look, the GW2 playerbase could spend their money on whatever they want, but I don’t intend to do so because the monetization is absolutely horrendous. Even if we could play the game without this gemstore crud, it’s still like taking a dump on someone’s birthday cake. Sure, they could try to eat the pieces of the cake without feces on it, but who would want to eat such a thing?
Placing an ugly person next to a nice person doesn’t make the nice person look better by contrast. It just makes both of them look ugly.
I really wish the monetization would stop killing GW2’s reputation.

I’m pretty sure placing a hot person next to an ugly person does not make them both ugly. The hot person is still going to be hot.
Close to 100 dollars total in both the box purchase and gems, I bought the game for early access. Gamble boxes aren’t the only thing in the gemstore. I got character slots and bank slots and that’s about it.
I live in Vegas and I’m not dumb enough to go to the casinos. Not like I’m missing out on anything. Maybe people playing this game should take a hint and do the same if it bothers them so much?
In WoW it costs 25 dollars to transfer each character, there isn’t even an option to transfer all of them. To transfer 11 characters, the max limit per server, it costs 275 dollars.. That’s not even mentioning if you want a faction change as well (30 dollars each). On top of that you’re paying 15 dollars a month and their cash shop sells helmets for 15 dollars each, mounts for 25 dollars, and minipets are 10 dollars.
SWTOR? It’s like 20 dollars for a set of (cosmetic) armor and they try to force you into a sub fee with the terrible F2P restrictions.

Actually, you are who you associate with. Plus I’m pretty sure you would smell the stinky odor from the ugly person.
$30 besides the box cost

The very strange thing is, I’m very very easily persuaded normally to buy stuff form the cashshop, but in GW2, theres really nothing attractive from there apart from trans crystals which I can easily afford using in-game gold.
Not sure if this is a good thing or not.
Probably $5000.
Just curious how much, if any, people have spent on this game following their initial purchase. I’ve probably dropped $100 in the gem store, mainly for the medium armor sets and gathering tools.
20 gold to purchase 2 hairstyle kits for my necro and ele. I don’t use my credit card, I buy gems with in game gold even tho it’s more expensive at times but patience pays off after a while I guess.
100-150 euros if i remember correctly. I tend to buy some gems whenever they release something that i enjoyed (like the new TA path for example).
Between me and my fiance, I’d estimate around $60-$80. I remember recently I swung $20 in donations for Hardcore Adventure Box: World 1 back in the form of $20 in gems ($10 for me, $10 for my fiance). It’s a bit fuzzy how many gems I’ve bought before that.
Also, check out Hardcore Adventure Box: World 1, World 2, Lost Sessions
Main Character: Dathius Eventide | Say “hi” to the Tribulation Clouds for me. :)
$60 for the box, 2 server transfers @ 1800 gems each and roughly $50 since launch for transmute crystals and the occasional shiney (love the broom!) Other than that, everything I have bought from the gem shop has come from in-game gold.
Probably too much. If you constantly remind yourself that you don’t need anything out of the Gem Shop to play, and that at the end of the day it’s all virtual and you’ll have nothing to show for it, you’ll be slightly better off. Individual mileage may vary.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.

One thing here is that you can also get tickets directly, not just scraps from black lion chests. It’s still not great from the point of view of someone who likes RNG, but you don’t actually need multiple ticket scraps if you get a ticket.
Not sure exact figures. But around £200 maybe.

$60 for the pre-release
about $80 in gems
about $50 in armor skins
$30 for 2 server transfers
$20 for makeup kits
$30 for permanent farming tools
about $5 to find out how much black lion keys suck
I regret nothing save the money spent on black lion keys. What’s even more baffling is that I have posted, often, that I would have gladly bought several limited-time weapon skins if Anet would have sold them in the gem store after their related events were over. Apparently this has fallen on death ears. Due to that and the ridiculous grind for ascended weapons, I’ve stopped playing the game.
I’ve spent about $200 over box price and plan on spending more once I get a job. With the constant updates I don’t need to spend money on buying new games. I also just want to support arena net because I love the game
I’ve probably spent $600 on gems and will buy more, I love being able to buy things in game and also it supports A-net.
Necromancy is a way of life :).
Not sure, somewhere close to a grand I would guess.

I can tell you one thing. Paying $10-$15 per month for a subscription fee and earning every armor set and weapon skin that exists in the game by actually playing the game is far, far cheaper than the system that these cash shop games employ. Even if you can straight up purchase the armor skin or weapon skin without gambling your money, where is the sense of accomplishment? I am personally looking forward to Elder Scrolls Online and the fact that it is a subscription game with no cash shop (outside of game services, ie NOT gear) is one reason I am really looking forward to it.
I bought some extra character slots and bank slots, probably like 30-50 euros.
I think cash shop model has become annoying so I sort of regret I put in some money, especially since those extra character slots seem pretty useless if I cannot afford to buy gear for all those 8 characters with in-game currency, not to mention time-gating even if there was enough gold, which seems pretty impossible atm.
I also really despise server transfer costs since WvW is so populated that you’re kind of forced to switch server if you want to play but if you ever want to get back it costs like new box set. Kind of weird in my opinion.
$0.00usd after the initial purchase.
I don’t do cash shops.
That’s what I said
I probably spent about $400-$500 since launch. Some of that went to purchase bank slots and 4 char slots, the rest was spent buying full sets of perma gathering tools for all of my 9 chars.
I know that’s a lot of money for something i feel we should have had in the game to being with, but i couldn’t stand the system of having to keep buying 3 different types of gathering tools, then all different tier ones ugh no.
I even dislike how the node are gathered, having to keep clicking on them if there’s more than 3 chunks of ore or wood to be gathered. it’s especially annoying on a rich node. Gathering should be one action, click on the node and ur char keeps gathering till its done. Sorry to say this, but waaaaay too much clicking in this game.
Nothing beyond the box price.
The Ascended gear fiasco and constant new ways to grind (which I ignore) basically guarunteed I will never spend cash at the gem store. I still enjoy the gameplay and leveling random alts, but just don’t get into the game that seriously since it changed direction. That there’s nothing worthwhile in the store (still) doesn’t help either.
Fortunately I invested heavily in gems during release when they were under 2g, and still have a large collection of them, so my character and bank slots are in good supply.

Just the box cost here as well. Its not that I’m against cash shops as I regularly spend money on LoL. GW2 just has not earned it. In lol I buy something and I get it directly and get to keep it. Everything on here is legalized gambling. I’m almost shocked there hasn’t been some legal action attempted given a portion of the population is obviously children.
4000 hours. 100bucks/month (mostly to support game development not because I want or need something with gems in store…)
(edited by Titan.3472)
I spent $35 on gems (against my better judgement and normal stance on cash shops) because i wanted the Copper-Fed Salvage thing, some bank space and personal space.
Here’s the thing, I spent the remaining gems on chest keys. Worst, decision ever. DO NOT do it. Total waste of gems. Because of this, I will NEVER spend a penny on GW2 again.
It left a bad taste.
$60 for purchasing Guild Wars 2
$35 for gems

$95 – the money I have spent on Guild Wars 2.
I totally regret playing and paying monthly subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing games. Guild Wars 2 saved me.
I got curious after reading this topic, so I made a quick calculation. Turns out I spent roughly £100 since last September – that is actually less than what I would have paid for a monthly subscription based game.
0$ and it makes me happy :-) I rather spend my money on good games like GW1.
I’ve only spent the original cost of the game, the price of two bank upgrades because the bank size we start with is ridiculously little, and a makeover kit which I do regret.
(edited by pdg.8462)
I started playing GW2 about 2 weeks after launch. The game was given to me as a birthday present.A few months later I was given a $20 gem card for Christmas. So $80 has been spent on my behalf but I personally have not spent any real money on this game at all.Not because I’m against the cash shop or anything else Anet has done,I’m just in a real tight financial situation.I don’t feel I’ve been held back at all by not spending real money.
On a side note,I would buy a gem card if they ever put a drum in the cash shop.
Hmmm…

Between my husband and myself, probably between $300 and $400 over the past year. Might be more, but I can’t remember precisely how many of our character slots were bought golds->gems vs cash->gems.
I don’t really keep track because I’m not unhappy. I spend what I feel like spending when I feel it’s worth spending on. shrug Isn’t that how all women shop?
As a GW1 veteran who has since quit, beyond the initial price of the Collector’s Edition, not a red cent more and that’s the way it’ll stay until they add more meat to the combat system, fix more bugs, and concentrate on some big-boy updates rather than this fetchy, cheesy, living story garbage.
I spent about 60$ on the game, and when I started spent 20$ on gems to get some extra bank slots, since then I have spent 10$ on gems 2 times to help get the gems I needed for transfers. I dont like the armors and rng weapons of the gem store so wont waste my money or gold on them.
Välkyri – 80 Warrior
JQ[Lulz] – Kill fur Thrillz…
Just the price of the game, really. I get everything I want from the gem store with gold (though it is starting to get way too expansive…).
Astrid Strongheart, Norn Ranger.
“I wish juvenile wolves were bigger”
Probably 1k over the full year.
Mostly buying stuff i don’t “need”, and learned quickly to completely ignore anything that is based on RNG.
I don’t really want to, but in the end I have to due to the fact that my server is dying in both pve and wvw. So I put in $50 dollars more to get a server transfer. Got an extra character slot. a few bank slots.
I don’t mind the character transfer cost or buying extra character slot, but a bank slot…hate it. I mean, they can up the number in the crafting storage, they can offer skin library, they can give us a reason to keep all those ascended rings. Let them trade 5 or 10 in to get one that I want. I don’t mind. I have so many rings and i cannot even sell them…why!?
3,000-5,000 not really sure.
Box price plus 20 buckaroos in gems since launch. They nabbed me with that makeover kit =D
