I am sure I can’t ask that question here. But it does pertain to GW2. I don’t really know the median age of players vs. the median age of forum users and those who engage the game on a deeper level. I’m guessing mid-20s for forum users.

I’m 24. I use the forums frequently and enjoy working with devs and other passionate players for feedback and game improvements, if you consider that deep engagement. Time and life prevents me from partaking in as many tournies as I would have otherwise liked to, but I still like to stay involved.

Born the year Star Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi was released in theaters. Older then your guess for forum users.

Mind you the original reason I would come to the forums is for all the rage and/or crying posts on the Support forums section. Some of the “I was banned and it’s wrong” and it turned out to be completely justified. Those were great. Now it’s all “FIX MY PING”.

I’m 50 and retired so I have lots of forum posting time available. Though come to think of it I was pretty chatty in here when I was working, too. Just more in the evenings and weekends back then

To use the comparative form of other posters here, I was born four years before Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and have vague memories of watching that on TV.

Maybe I was wrong. The average seems to be a few years or so higher than I guessed.

The last time this thread appeared, the average seemed around mid-thirties. I am older than that.

I get all a little boy a lot in many games because I’m female and “OMG GRILLS DON’T VIDEO GAEM”

So I never can guess how old people are. Those are usually 20-somethings saying it, and you would think they would have some intelligence (I mean the ones thinking girls don’t play video games)

Got hooked on RPGs with Ultima Underworld (next time you young whipper snappers feel like spouting off about how terrible GW2 is, watch a youtube video of Ultima Underworld and count your blessings….. and get off my lawn)

Don’t know what movie was out when i was born but by the time i was coherent i learned the 80s was the greatest decade and now that i think about it, my toons all have character names related to the 80’s :

I’m getting ready to celebrate my 6,210 day wedding anniversary in a few weeks.

Oh I thought numbers after our names were age.

I was born in the year “I Shot The Sheriff” and “Everybody’s KungkittenFighting” were released. (love them auto corrections here )

But I’m married with children and have played games since Pac-Man … which was released originally when I was 6 yrs old.

I’m 30. Not a big fan of movies, and 80’s movies especially, but I’m almost exactly the same age as Guns N’ Roses.

Also if I remember correctly the average age of MMO players has always been slightly higher than the average age of gamers in general and the average age of gamers has been going up over time as people who grew up with them don’t lose interest and more older people discover them as they become more well known.

That’s usually skewed by the fact that the average age of forum users, on any kind of forum, tends towards the teens and early 20’s but I suspect (although without evidence) that’s changing now too as younger people are more into social media type sites than forums.

Why is it scary you ask?
Because more than half of the posts on these forums are an abundance of salt, name-calling, plain hatred or insatiable desire.

I suppose it’s those of around my own age that act like this.
Just makes you think if there’s a certain group of teenagers raging or if it’s the grumpy elderly.

I’ve had this sort of response kinda often in League Of Legends. Why would adults not have emotions (rage) or want to fight back unjustified arguments (whine)? Sometimes there are people asking why a 40-year old would “still play video games”? It is basically like asking where there are wars on the world, since they’re started by “mature” people that should know better not to kill and fight over land and ressources; we could share, right?

Conflicts, emotions and all that stuff that makes a living being / a thinking and feeling individuum of whatever of all ages – and the reason why this game exists. It’s called “Guild Wars” in the end, not “mature characters pick flowers together”. It’s a part of social life and depending on how much can handle it, you’ll live trough it.^^

Started playing GW1 at the fragile age of 18. 10 years well spent?

well, since I have answered this question honestly before, no reason to change. I am now 48 years and a couple of weeks. The progeny is approximately 30½ years younger.

I’ve worked in various forms of customer service for over 10 years and been a moderator on forums where everyone was very open about their age on and off for even longer.

In my experience age has very little to do with how people react to things they don’t like. It might change the wording they use – older people are more likely to insist things are more complicated than they need to be or change too quickly for anyone to keep track of while younger people are more likely to say it takes too much time to understand the rules (and some people in between take the more direct approach of claiming they’re far more important than the people making the rules and so the rules shouldn’t apply to them anyway).

But in terms of how they feel and the emotions that come across when expressing that (as well as additional factors like spelling and punctuation online) it’s about equal. The idea that it’s all teenagers seems to be a persistent stereotype online, probably because it’s also an easy way to dismiss the person in question as simply too young to know any better.

In fact I have one facebook friend who is in her mid-40’s, mother of 3, hard worker etc. etc. and she is the biggest drama queen I’ve ever met. The type who will put up 15 “omg y would u do that”, “i no wat u did don’t think u wont get caught cuz i know” type posts on a Friday night, then complain that “no1” cares because she only got 3 private messages asking if she’s ok and no likes on the posts.

I am 49, female and been playing online games since the BBS days. My other half is 50. The 2 boys are 31 and 29 and oh yea the granddaughter is 9.

I guess none of us are “mid 20’s” lol

You can blame my adult son for addicting me to these video games, he says “It will keep my mind sharp”
And as to whom and at what age some folks seem more …abrasive- …remember, we all have had bad days and have seen behaviours we don’t always agree with.
It is how YOU react to life’s offerings that matter to YOU.
