Only thing iw been able to find currently is that the mountain next to the path between Diessa Plateau and Wayfarer Foothills (Warmspring Grotto PoI) seem to have some heat ventilation on it, lots of warm air coming out of cracks. That being said, cant honestly remember if they allways have been there or not, but it dosent look familiar.

Lots of ash swirling around in the air by Savinir’s Dome too — I don’t remember seeing that before.

Heralds are not npc’s they are they ones who send you mails whenever a new dungeon becomes available, always by mail.
So just expect a mail form your herald- he even signs the mail as your herald.

The playable Living Story content will start appearing tomorrow (January 29) at around noon Pacific Time in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. When the events start in Diessa Plateau, you’ll be sent an in-game mail letting you know about it. However, if you’re already logged in when that happens, you need to change maps to receive it.

Bah, thank Balthazar I decided to check the forums for information. I’ve been running around Hoelbrak, Black Citadel, Wayfarer and Diessa for hours now. Started feeling like a bit of a boob. XD

Why do events always start at Noon when most people are having lunch or at work / in class?

Please keep in mind that GW2 is a world-wide game, and thanks to timezones there will always be people who will be unhappy with the times. Noon PST is actually one of those few times that work good enough with many timezones.

Also, as you said, noon is when people, like ANet, work, so it makes sense to release content during their work times so they can respond to things.

Look, part of the confusion is that yesterday evening an ArenaNet employee posted “Check in with the heralds for updates. There are hints of things to come already in the game.”

When you say “there are hints of things to come already in the game”, that implies things can be found now rather than later. Because if it’s not in now, it’s not “already in the game”.

It would help if everyone was on the same page, employees included.

There are “hints of things to come” in the game since the patch — as mentioned in this thread, there are already changes to the environments in the northern parts of the two zones involve.

(I’m guessing one of the mountains on the border of the two erupts into a volcano…)

It clearly states that there are “hints of things to come”. So I don’t understand the confusion. I mean I haven’t checked if the heralds are there to give you hints or not, but I didn’t feel the need to because the statement clearly said that the event is to come, and not right now.

No, it clearly states exactly what I said: “There are hints of things to come already in the game.”. Which, is a very different statement from “There are hints of things to come”. What part of “already in the game” needs more explaining?

So, please, point out the the “hints of things to come already in the game”, i.e. things that are in “right now”.

Now, if someone from Arenanet mispoke, that’s fine. But that’s why there was some confusion.

As of when I logged out (about half an hour ago) here’s what was up and working that I could find, all of it (so far) in Wayfarer:

There is a steady stream of refugee NPCs heading south along the roads. The bulk of the traffic runs from Dolyak Pass waypoint, west to Crossroads Haven, then south to Taigan Waypoint, then west on the road and south through the pass to Hoelbrak, but there are a few refugees along all the roads in the zone.

1) Some of the refugees didn’t survive. Click on the bodies to collect Refugee Mementos. Turn them in at any memento collector NPC (marked with a star on your map) for 1 point each.

2) The first time you see any of the refugee direction signs (can anybody who reads New Krytan tell me what they say?) you’ll see that they’re broken. Fix them for 1 point each.

3) Each of the Memento Collectors is sitting next to an unlit campfire. Light it for 1 point.

4) Some of the refugees are Wounded Refugees. Click on any of them and /kneel or /bow to heal them, for 1 point each.

5) At at least two points along the road, there are short rocky chimneys that weren’t there before. At very long intervals, they will sprout a bunch of Ice Elementals lead by a Veteran Ice Elemental. Kill the elementals to create Ice Block objects. Click an Ice Block object to pick it up, then right-click the Chimney to use it. Once enough of these have been used on the chimney, the event ends. I don’t know how this one is scored, yet.

When you get to 75 points, you receive the Volunteer title. The next time you zone, you’ll receive a mail with an item that, when used, grants Karma.

There’s almost certainly more coming to the event, but that’s what was up and running as of 5:30 pm Central Standard Time on the 29th.

Edited to add: After the last patch, Diessa Plateau is active, as well. Same deal, refugees streaming south: Butcher’s Block Waypoint, south southeast along the road to Nolan Waypoint by way of Charradis Estate Waypoint. There are a lot fewer of them, though. Again, collect Refugee Mementos from corpses, repair signs, light campfires at the Memento Collectors. Again, look for short stone chimneys along the road. I never saw one of those go off, but from what the Memento Collectors say about them, they appear to work like the steam chimneys in Wayfarer Foothills, only with different monsters.

If one full lap from Black Citadel to Hoelbrak doesn’t generate 75 points for you, the fastest way to finish it would probably be to run it with a second character.

I also got no ingame mail, nothing at all. I’m actually a bit upset at the chaotic disorganized attitude towards this event. We have no idea when, where, why, what. I mean we were supposed to get mail hours ago but nothing, there might be something going on with the refugees but no notification or information ANYWHERE of that for us. Nothing at all…

Edit: I even said to myself; “how unusual, there’s no overflow here…” well of course there’s no overflow, most players have no idea this is going on so a lot of people are actually not there helping the refugees.

Im going to take this chance and really let my soul out. Guys, in my opinion, informing the players about events are great but they are completely vague and much like the Traveler in GW1, is left to the the player interpretation of where and what is happening with this events and that is if those player really even bother to check the wiki or the forums for that matter of this locations and vague descriptions about them.

Most if not all emails im getting have broken links. So I dont know the details unless im at home launching the game or going to websites.

“New Living Story events have been added to Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau.”→ Those are big, and I do mean BIG places. Theres no quest counters for this story events, theres no quests listed with my characters and I have no idea where to look first. I wish for once when I get home or check my email to see an update for this game that it doesnt involve “cryptic” information.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/january-2013/” This website is an example of it. Theres not a single link in there to give you an exact detail of the changes and of the added quests.

“New Living Story events have been added to Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau.” Where exactly are this story events located in?

-Heralds-
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/update-notes-january-28-2013/?utm_source=client "…heralds will begin appearing in cities across Tyria. " Where exactly are they? How they look like? At least a picture would be nice.

“Persistent world content related to the story of the refugees has been added to Wayfarer Foothills, Diessa Plateau, the Black Citadel, and Hoelbrak.” Where/What and even if when are these contents? Do I get a marker for them?

You guys have to be less cryptic about this updates. Right now I dont even know where are these events located. I would like that when updates like these comes to spend more time in the game and less time skulking around websites.

Wish you all the best.

I agree with SideStep entirely, I mean I appreciate the fact they don’t just downright tell you exactly where and how to do everything but we need SOMETHING to go on. They can inform us about what to do without revealing any spoilers about the event.

If I hadn’t come here I would have no idea there were refugees in Wayfarer Foothills, and though they said there’s new stuff in both locations, I’ve yet to see anything at all in Diessa Plateau, so what’s going on…?

The patch went live on the 28th, we had no info about the event, many looked and found nothing. We didn’t know if we were supposed to find it, or if it wasn’t there yet. Only later did they say things would start on the 29th, not 28th, then said we’d get in game mail. We got no mail until much much much later than they said, for a while there were only refugees in Wayfarer Foothillls and none in the Plateau… so things have been scattered and not very well informed, that’s the issue.

Thanks for the feedback on the Living Story portion of Flame and Frost: Prelude. Here’s some context on how it works:

  • The Flame and Frost story content progresses over time. You will not see everything today, tomorrow, or even the next day.
  • Expect subtle changes at first. Maybe you’ll encounter some familiar characters. Perhaps you’ll be introduced to some new ones. You might see a new structure where there wasn’t one before.
  • The Living Story content is initially about the thrill of discovery. We’ll put some markers on your map, maybe send you a letter, or parcel out details through certain characters, but the rest is up to you.
  • As the weeks progress, you’ll notice bigger changes in the world. New events may appear. Plots will advance and characters will develop.

As always, we welcome your opinions. This is a new thing we’re trying so we appreciate your patience and input.

I would like to add I actually think this is a pretty exciting potential way of having the story develop. Ill be interested to see how it works.

One peice of feedback Id give is it is rather vague what is happening. If I understood right we were supposed to get an ingame mail to tell us something was up. I didnt receive that earlier while playing so I had to just go around guessing.

This might not have been intentional. However some method of conveying hints or breadcrumbs though ingame sources like interactive warning signs or npcs discussing rumors or such would set the atmosphere better.

Only other point I might make is if you dont run into one of the dynamic events which can easily happen it can be confusing to figure out what weather the refugees are talking about.

Other than that I did like that this event feels like something that is happening independent of us that we have the option of getting involved in and finding out more. Adds a nice layer to the whole ‘living world’ concept.

Personally I dislike all of this demand and expectation for information on every thing they add to the game. What ever happened to the good ole days in MMOs when the community played the game to learn for themselves?

I remember that, but back then they didn’t have any company employees/representatives, etc. leading us on with extremely vague info, and as it turns out… mis-info. Things are supposed to start at a certain time, and at a certain place(s). I can understand the community getting downright filthy with Anet for NOT COMMUNICATING WITH US.

If you let out a teaser of info, be sure that the info is correct and that the event happens on time, and not the Anet philosophy of “when it’s ready”. That stance doesn’t wash well with MMO’ers.

Anet if you’re going to tell us bits and pieces, make sure they have enough detail to get us started and nothing that can be construed as confusing. You’ll have a lot happier customer base if you tell us either a lot about something (we want detail), or even nothing about it at all. But telling us a little about a little in your standard PR doublespeak is most annoying.

You guys really need to have a lot more open communication with your players.

Umm… Apparently you’ve never heard of a company named Blizzard… who currently has the largest subscription count of any p2p MMO, ever… whose mantra has always been, “We’ll release it WHEN IT’S READY.” And then still proceed to release things with bugs. Because it happens.

There’s another company that follows the doctrine of releasing things whether it’s ready or not. It’s called CCP. Try googling “EVE Online Walking in stations,” and see the debacle that happened.

Granted, communication could be better concerning other things, but as far as future content goes, there’s a reason they share SOME information, over time, but NOT everything.
