If I get them, I get them. But Fractals are a fun instance that I can play while casually working towards something. It gives me something to accomplish and is hardly a grind or a treadmill when it’s fun and entertaining.
I would just ignore Apathy he is either trolling or very dense. The info is out there he is just ignoring facts and making up what he thinks is going to happen just to spread more angst in the community.

How bout recent events…. how about you go educate yourself on recent happenings, namely the interview just this week which pretty much threw everything you speculated about on page one 100% false. yet you continue to act like thats whats happening?
They very clearly told the community why the change, and that it was meant to be there from the start of the game… they also say that ascended gear will become available over the course of a full year….. then they say there is no planned higher tier gear for the forseeable future.
Yet you insist that its incorrect information, or perhaps you didn’t bother reading what was said this week and continue on with the doomsday posts.

I want the money I spent on gems to buy and upgrade my exotics back. That’s all I want – if Anet wants to change the game like this, that’s their choice – but I don’t like being misled into spending money.

I didn’t say it doesn’t. I am saying if you hate it so much and what its becoming, put your big boy/girl pants on be a grown up and walk away. Or is it that you lack the mental fortitude to control your own choices in life and would rather blame someone else for your lack of control and choices?

my top character is level 80 and only in yellow and green gear .. not one piece of exotic yet. but i have lots of fun playing….

Seriously tho, if the OP is truly unhappy and feels lied to, then it’s up to him to decide whether to continue to play the game or not. This endless back-and-forth between different posters is somewhat tiresome and just going over old ground.
ArenaNet have clarified the position with respect to ascended gear and vertical progression. It will be in the game, it will be a low power curve, and they don’t intend for it to be “grindy” (ofc, individual definitions of grind will vary), and you will be able to achieve it via multiple methods (ideally doing the things you enjoy).
From my perspective, none of this breaks the manifesto, if I can get the gear from doing the things I enjoy doing and I’m not locked out from content because I don’t have the best gear, then I will be satisfied. YMMV however.

I just wanted to let the community know what happened to me and how I felt. I suppose this community isn’t as supportive or positive as I had hoped – oh well, I guess all of the decent players left when this fiasco started.

So it’ll be endgame until an expansion comes out with levels 81-90 and more gear to grind for? Sounds grind-tastic to me.
Seriously, if they don’t release an expansion in 2013 bumping up the level cap, I’d be surprised.
(Most likely a Canthan expansion adding the Tengu as a playable race, and possibly another profession and new weapon types.)

So, I’m pretty angry right now.
I spent a lot of time, effort, energy, and gems into acquiring my two and a half exotic sets. I understood this to be an investment because, like GW1, this gear wouldn’t become obsolete.
With the implementation of Ascended gear, I’ve realized that this wasn’t the case. All of the gear that I so painstakingly earned and bought is now obsolete. I’ve realy worked for nothing.
I love the idea of horizontal progression – like GW1, working towards extra skins and other non-combat ways to differentiate your character. I feel chated, lied to, and deceived.
I would like a refund for my gems and for my exotic gear. Or, I would like them transmuted into Ascended gear.
I think your lying to your self if you think exotic are obsolete now unless you think you can get by with just 2 rings and a back item with no weapons and no other gear.

THey said it themselves that there’s going to be a full ascended set. That’s not what I expected when I bought my exotics and based on the tone of the anti-grind game.
Ascended gear is does NOT make your exotics completely obsolete, in fact they are only useful in that ONE dungeon, and you don’t have to work for them if you don’t have to. They don’t even affect pvp. Its just something extra to work toward if you feel inclined to.

Their paradigm shift on this, needs further clarification. Touting a fantastic yellow ball that’s coming into stock all week as “the greatest yellow ball ever, and will never ever be manufactured to have yellow stripes on it for all you purists who want only the most yellow of balls” is pretty much making a statement that consumers will trust in.
then turning around a few weeks after offering up players these items and sending out a new statement such as “good news! we realised that these yellow balls weren’t flashy enough so we’re going to place a stripe on them!!! aren’t you thankful!!”
Might SEEM like a sound business plan from a purely corporate standpoint it would be something a businessman would look at as “meeting another demand in the market” but it doesn’t exactly work like that when you’re making a persistent gaming world like an MMO, The problem with GW2 was it’s grind, not it’s grind for gear for stats, just the grind for everything that seemed to never go anywhere or be so far apart from where you were, or so anti-fun and forceful of making you jump through hoops in areas you might not want to play… that ultimately they have only themselves to blame when their answer was “good news everyone, we’ve realised that getting to that yellow ball with a stripe might be out of the price range of players and they already spent their cash and effort getting their original yellow ball, so we’re now going to sell you a yellow ball with half a stripe”
I know, it’s late and these analogies probably suck, or sound better in my head BUT it’s just indicative that their general direction and failure to recognise that aesthetic progression is still progression and just replaced stats, cannot be countered by adding a second type of parallel progression… lol

I can understand the frustration i too am very angry about this nov 16th patch but they did mention specifics about the future direction of the game including gaining these items and all we can do now is wait for their next patch.
yes because we should give how many chances to failnet? sorry, as far as im concerned, credibility was lost when they pimped the Hall of Monuments to GW1 players to have some major significance in gw2. it was a PR stunt to try and keep those players playing. and what do they do? instead of getting cool items/armor/weapons related to each title we earn, they just add a numerical value to it.

I understand your frustration with ascended gear, I agree with you. But at least for me, there are reasons to be optimistic now.
The answers are good enough, they acknowledged the error, ascended gear should be made available globally in the game and far more easy (read, far less grindy) to obtain, but at least they now agree with us (yes, ascended gear is here to stay, but is going to become more akin to exotic to obtain, than akin to legendary….) And no more tiers.
They intoned the mea culpa. Let’s give them credit for it — it nothing else because they saw it was a real bad move for the game (I am including the gating mechanic there as well)
So I am returning to the game, cautiously and no rushing (not going to grind the ascended stuff as it is now for sure)

Actually, nowhere does the manifesto literally state “no gear grind”, but that hasn’t stopped people interpreting it that way.
There was already vertical progression in the game at launch (levels and different grades of gear) as well as horizontal progression. The vertical progression that existed did not block anyone from enjoying the content on offer (i.e. you don’t need full rares/exotics to be able to do an event or dungeon or WvW or what ever you enjoy).
The implementation of the ascended tier has been badly done, but ArenaNet have admitted that and are working on making it available from multiple sources (PvP, crafting, and other existing content). Ascended gear is supposed to take more time to acquire compared to exotics, but not as long as it takes to acquire legendaries, and will be as mandatory to experience the game content as exotics are currently (i.e. not at all).
How many ways are there to handle a raised level cap? Do you think they’re going to automatically level-bump all the existing 80 gear?

I never grinded for most of that. Its so easy to level in this game you have to purposefully slow yourself down. What I find interesting is that everyone touts horizontal progression..and states examples of exploration, puzzles, optional skins..and all those things are still available. I dont understand the need to be just as strong as everyone else when you have no intention of being competitive in the first place.

10 days at 4500(?) a jug gives you 45000 or 1 piece of gear. That leaves 207,000 to go. At 378 per event that’s 548 events needed. At 5 minutes per event(unlikely) that’s 45.6 hours total or 4.56 hours a day. Yes you can do it in 10 days, for most though just those 6 pieces of gear will take them a month and that doesn’t include weapons, accessories, or runes/sigils. Even if you have 60k karma upon hitting 80 you still need to spend 32.4 hours grinding karma beside the 10 karma jugs.
This game was not supposed to be a grind. Sure for those that spend 4-5 hours a day playing getting exotics is easy, but for the people that were marketed this game as low grind they aren’t. If you want a game where endgame gear is hard to get then there are plenty out there, go play them but don’t drag that mentality here.

Thats the point though, its not hard, its not even really resource/time intensive. Also..you dont need it for anything other than being competitive, are you competitive? if you are SPvP then you dont have to worry about it..and honestly in WvW you dont have to worry about it. So I ask you, why is it important that you have the best of the best given to you?
And how long would you continue to play this game with ZERO way of enhancing your character a little or by working towards new levels?
Just as long as I will play the game with them.

I know it may be surprising for you, but not everyone plays a game so they can get their (over)participation ribbon so they can feel better about themselves.

Okay okay. After like 5+ posts in this thread alone, we get it. You don’t like the game. Please stop beating us over the head with your dislike for the game. Contact customer support for a refund, I’m sure that will be a much efficient use of your time than you droning on that you don’t like this game in this thread.
