So it’s American servers having a population problem then?
i guess it sounds that way…
Also Jonathan Sharp gave the reason they don’t post on the forum as much.* They do read it all, and I suppose it’s nice when they come on here check every thread with a “I read this we are taking it in consideration”. Though I’m questioning the added value to that.
If they were actually going to discuss every single detail someone puts up here, then they will never fix those bugs.

I 100% agree with you OP. Their whole attitude towards the great many unresolved issues that plague the game makes me believe that the game is doing very bad. Perhaps they have not sold nearly as many copies than they had predicted. Every day more players are quitting the game. Their actions appear like they are just trying to squeeze out the loyal player base for every penny they can get before the whole game goes down the drain. My minds made up. Unless they make due I won’t spend another dime in the cash shop.
After Lost Shore, I decided to take a break from the game till the next patch.
I played Ranger and was burned out from begging them to fix my class.
Also was a strong dungeoneer and to find my gear was now obsolete after only 2 months was discouraging.
Also was discouraged after playing FotM, the RNG system is super depressing to keep on hearing guildies and pugs getting ascended gear or mats and I not getting a single thing after playing so many times in full MF gear.
It has been 2 weeks plus and there has not been any patch at all. Not even a small one.
Well at the very least, it has helped me get over GW2. Where once I used to play at least 2~3 hours a day, now I don’t any more. I just log into the forums to read up on what is happening, once a day or less.
And what I read in the forum is extremely not motivating.
So our feedback means nothing if we say Anet or Arenanet? I’m not sure if I understand this. I suppose they are referring to direct demands for a reply and not general complaints.
However, I intend to continue making complaints where necessary, whether they read it or not. :p
I still see a lot of people participating in events, though groups are harder to come by for anything besides fractals. Generally though the moral is a bit low as I still hear grumbling about bugs and a smaller active population on all the maps.
Well whether they listen to our complaints regardless of how we word it won’t matter, if people are that upset they’ll just continue to see a drop in population like in every other game. When a company fails to respond accordingly to the demands of their player base, people leave for greener pastures that’s just the way it is.

So it’s American servers having a population problem then?
Not really. We’re just all in fractals hating our lives. It’s not the servers that are empty, its the zones within those servers. Everyone is crammed into 1 spot atm.

Well one personal observation deserves another .Logged last night low level maps to finish a few areas .Everywhere i went there were groups i helped with bosses skill points etc .So I was able to see a solid base of players every zone went too .Low mid and high .
What does it mean absolutely nothing just one limited observation the same as the omg zones are empty posts .Both are limited observations .

It means that you have to follow the long eye bleeding gut wrenchingly long page of what not to do, and if you don’t you get infracted (there’s nothing wrong with that, you can’t consider that to be a bad description of that page), generally I would say more but I’m heading for a perma ban (possibly) as it is…
The basic gist of it is"this forum is a privilege not a right" so if you want to add your feedback in a negative manner, well you know how to do so without my direction. But showing that displeasure here, verbally is just asking to be infracted and made out to be a troublemaker, do yourself a favor and just don’t let that happen. don’t vote with your hands, vote with your feet… so to speak
The thread name was edited and the OP was infracted to let him know about that.
It didn’t have any consequences to the account. Please stop discussing the moderation and speculating about reasons for infractions, it’s only of the concern of the user who got it. He could have asked the moderators/ CCs why he got infracted. The reason is described in the infraction, too!
Posts regarding the moderation will be removed from this thread.
Apparently you are not allowed to use Anet, ArenaNet, or variations thereof, as they see it as a “call out”.
This is true. Please read the code of conduct, maybe it will clearify things before you complain about the moderation and/ or insult the community team. Thank you. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/rules

I have been banned in the past without explanation and my e-mail asking why went ignored. I’ve been infracted 7 times for ridiculous things ranging from “trolling” while helping people, to “not posting helpful information” in a general discussion, on one occasion I even got infracted for the same message twice. I even saw an entirely legitmate response get marked trolling on the basis of the personal incredulity of the moderator!
So, you can understand some of us are getting seriously exasperated about the moderating and taking it up privately with the moderating team has yielded nothing

I love the way you communicate with people. Take this as a compliment please. You ask people to be constructive and all I see you guys do is just show them the door and not answer any of their questions. There are (and were) many constructive topics and none of them had any dev answer.

You have learned a passive ability to troll even when you’re not attempting to do so.
OT: I think the servers are still quite populated but the main problem is where this population is currently placed. One of the areas they’re all in is Lions Arch to recruit for their FoTM of the day or for one of the other instances. Another thing I noticed on my servers is the contested of waypoints. While this is not so much an issue in the lower level zones since taking things back is relative easy on your own the issue arises when you arrive in Straits of Devastation and beyond.
The way I would like to see this changed is making a overflow server of all these zones where you automagically get sent into and when you arrive in these lands you’re offered with the choice of going back to your empty homeserver or staying in the somewhat more active overflow server. While this might not be such a big issue yet the same could be done with lower level areas just to give people that solo at least the feeling they’re not entirely alone on a map which it sometimes feels like.
I am becoming concerned as well.
I don’t believe one single word they blog-/tweet-/fb-promise anymore, untill I see the actual changes in game.
They fooled me enough. Won’t happen again.

People suck at math.
It’s becoming a problem only when game developers (that includes pen & paper RPGs) that create numbers-based systems can’t do math. In my experience, most can’t.

How many people that are playing Guild Wars 2 are using Xfire? You can only measure the percentage of people that allow to be measured. Example: I have Xfire for streaming, but I haven’t even switched it on for half a year and I did not register guild wars 2 on it. I could be better measure with steam, me having 200 games on that, but even then I did not associate Guild Wars 2 with it, because I couldn’t be bothered. So in total, no measurement is accurate, because it’s not measuring all players. It can be measuring as low as 5% – 10% of the players.

That’s what you call a sample. When CNN does a poll they don’t poll the entire nation they take a sample and usually those samples are correct. Everyone should remember how accurate samples were during the election.

Not every sample is accurate, though. (See me earlier post about math and enhance it to include statistics).
If the sample is methologically slanted to include a vastly disproportionate amount of players from a small subgroup, it’s not representative. Xfire or what it’s called is not something the average gamer uses. Only a very specific demographic uses it. If I were to wager a guess, I’d assume that it’s mostly young, male hardcore gamers. That’s by no means representative.
Now let’s assume that players that favour competing with others over collaborating with others are mostly young, male and hardcore players. I guess it’s a fair assumption. I think we can assume that players using Xfire are dedicated and since they play a lot, above average players. I think it’s save to conclude that they are overrepresenting what casual old players in the respective threads here called “content locusts” and that they are far less attached to the franchise and far more likely to hop the next game and far more likely to have “completed” GW2 and thus not log on as much anymore (and rather “go on”). Since they want to be “best” they also need a way to show that they are “best” and are likely pro content-treadmill and will have left the game long before 11/15 because of this. Remember the threads about GW2 having nothing to do? That was them.

GW1 had 7 years to get where it is now.
GW2 had 3 months so far.
Which means GW2 had the foundation (and benefit) of years and years of GW1 experience upon which to build.

It also does things alot differently, new mechanics, new lore (built upon the lore from gw1 though), new(ish) areas and more. If it were a simple expansion I’d get it, but gw2 is almost a completely different game.

Simple answer? Find a playing partner, toss in Map Chat that you want to explore, do XX event, or whatever, and ASK for grouping. You may just be surprised.
Tried that, people called me a whiner. Even in Orr. Its solo, or you suck! Period. There is no community like this that you speak of.
Map chat is ignored or shut off by almost anyone in game as well. I even do this occasionally as I have /map and everything on one tab and /say, /party, and /whisper on another (for RPs) and /guild only in one.
Well I can prove that Diessa Plateau on the Underworld server was far from dead for that half an hour that I played today. Yesterday I posted pictures with my calendar on screen, in those pictures you could not only see the server selection, you could also see that my Antarte was level 22. Take my level as a time reference.

So I can prove that I met or indirectly seen 13 people in 30 minutes in one zone. Normally I always see 10 to 30 people a zone no matter when I connect to the server. I can and probably will photograph other areas for you people. (Rata Sum was steaming with people yesterday, but I decided not to photograph, I should have). But I’m fairly certain that the game is not dying and every zone has some people on it.
Yet do they bother to even help you if you ask? Like a champion mob or non soloable event?
There are a number of things I am recently becoming concerned about as it relates to both my current enjoyment of the game and hopes for playing in the future. Many of the zones that were once filled with events and people are now unpopulated and thus quite dull to be in. Events that were supposed to be fun and titanic (The one time lost shores event most recently) end up lasting less than 12 hours and getting abused by players who worked themselves into new instances in order to reap double or triple rewards while many of those who have jobs or families were cut off before being able to see the event fully even once. You add content like the fractals which offers rewards way beyond other dungeons and open world events, contributing to the abandonment of these area’s.
But the 2 things I am most concerned about are how casually you change loot or droprates with seemingly little to no regard for the impact on the market and players. The trading post is utterly chaotic with regards to prices, and it seems to be having a pretty negative impact on players who want progression on things like legendaries, which supposedly will become a bit easier to obtain as we are told, yet seeing the material prices skyrocket beyond control.
Most alarming to me however is the forums themselves. I cannot speak for other players, obviously, but I myself come to the forums to see get information on the game, to find news, and to keep current on the happenings in the game. But all I see is a sea of unhappy players, most with pretty valid concerns (Like where is the rewards told to those disconnected during lost shores that was used to soften the rage at how that was handled? Why does anet employee’s tell people fractal rejoining is being looked at 15 days ago, then saying its fixed, but still hasnt been patched when you obviously have no qualms about hotfixing dyes or other things that impact the gem market. Why are player concerns about droprates and loot going ignored with 400 post threads while moderators casually post on threads with 4 replies over trivial things?) There hasnt been any updates since mid November, if the announcements thread is to be believed.
Im having a hard time figuring out if im a blind fanboy by continuing to play and this game is getting so bad even you guys are afraid to comment, or if you are truly working to do something about these players concerns.
From someone who wants this game to be great, please, do _something_ so I know which it is.
We ARE talking about NCSoft here duh... Why does any of this really surprise you?? Just look at their AMAZING PAST HISTORY and how they crapped on all the other games they had. They’re kind of like a mini version of EA (i.e., "The Kiss of Death").
I’m wondering if my excitement for this title was misplaced as well.
These aren’t just bad luck or being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There’s no such thing as a completely random loot table algorithm, people suggesting that really don’t know the inner workings of mathematics in their current state. Mathematically, we have been unable to produce an equation that is completely randomized and they definitely do not use such algorithms in games like these, so when it comes to loot there is always a manipulation of +-. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know what they are talking about.
Secondly, their silence is either on purpose because they know they did something wrong, on purpose because they made a huge boo boo in manipulating the loot tables and don’t want to confirm it for the public with an apology, or on purpose because they did it to actually make people buy more gold directly from them with the gems. All three are wrong, we need an answer so we can get it resolved and ignoring it won’t make it go away. It’s far too wide spread a problem. My husband hasn’t seen a single unid dye since they made this change and all he gets are whites while leveling his ranger.
And finally, why is it that we can’t get word on what’s happening with the glaring problems in classes like Engineers for example? I follow the devs forums all the time and have seen nothing regarding engineer bugs misses and kit’s underpowered issues at all.

Every single new mmo has someone that tries to make this argument. While it has merit, they also ignore the games that have all come before this and proven that for a new MMO the Xfire numbers are reasonably accurate at showing trends. WAR, AoC, SWTOR all had massive Xfire dips and that was also shown in game. Perhaps you’re correct at the content locusts are what make up Xfire’s numbers, but then they also make up the majority of MMO players.
GW2 has seen a big dip in numbers. For most casuals even exotics were grindy enough to be out of reach or not worth the effort(who wants to run a dungeon 30 times for a set and before the nerf it was 90). No one wanted to sit and grind karma for 40 hours for a set and the fact that Orr was/is the worst zone in the game it didn’t make things any better. WvW provides zero progression and the badge system is a horrible joke. Getting 1 set turned out to be a chore so forget about getting a 2nd or 3rd.
ArenaNet has shown it’s hand time and time again and people finally get it. They want the game to be grindy. From precursor grind, karma grind, dungeon grind, T6 grind, to now fractal/ascension grind. What’s worse is they even increase the grind with lowering drop rates or nerfing event chains. Who thought 250 T6 was a good idea and obtainable by casuals? I can absolutely take the legendary weapons being a grind but top statted gear shouldn’t be and that’s exactly why I quit. That wasn’t what this game was presented as so why am I going to continue to play a game I didn’t want.
So content locusts? Or perhaps just the game not being what it was presented as. There will also be those unhappy with the amount of content, but I think there are a lot more unhappy about the way things are being handled and the amount of grind involved.
I think the DEs were supposed to be the respective anchors for lower level maps more than the nodes and material drops, but there’s so many factors at play that they simply become undesirable to participate in at higher levels. I’ll just call out a few factors. By themselves, they might not seem that bad. In tandem however, they don’t generate the desire for players to want to play the content.
+ Scaled down rewards for DEs in lower zones (in terms of karma/gold/xp as well as general drop potentials)
+ Uniform rewards for DEs of similar level (doing a 15 minute event can gives you the same karma/gold/xp and drop potentials as a 5 minute event unless there’s a chest)
+ Lack of DE information (being able to tell what’s going on and where within the map and globally)
+ Lack of real consequence for success/failure (having a “dead zone” should carry severe consequences that potentially even spill over into other zones).
+ High WP costs (unlike WvW BGs where you can wp into any map for free (minus the que if there is one) and get a glimpse of what’s going on. Trying to do something similar in Tyria would cost you quite a bit.
I’m wondering if my excitement for this title was misplaced as well.

I don’t think that you know what pay to win means or have ever even seen a single pay to win game. I have 2 level 80s with full exotics, not a single cent was spent on gems and no I did not grind. All I did was collect everything on my way trough the zones and increase my magic find. Both money and tier 6 items are not a problem to me. On top of that I never actually needed the best gear tier to be able to do dungeons and level 80 zones on my level 80. Where exactly did I need to pay to win?
Also Tera Online is doing quite well as an MMO.
It’s simple to see what has happened.
1. Increased Grind
2. DR
3. Decreased loot dropsall to force an impatient crowd into cash shop and at this point as difficult as they have made it to make gold, let alone get decent drops, they are figuring you will either stay and pay or leave.
One word for what’s happened…….Nexon
Oh yeah i called that on the first Halloween event, rare skins only obtainable from chests that are random = rare awesome super duper mounts with 1% chance drop from opening a box = gambling

It’s a dirty and cheap thing to do but this is NCSoft and ANet after all… Let’s not act surprised. Blizz is notorious for that with D3 until it majorly backfired in their faces. We should know by now all of they filthy tactics to make you spend money. It will eventually backfire on them as ppl will just leave and tell others not to spend money on this game. It will end up LIKE ALL OF THE REST OF THEIR FAILURES. Look at Tera Online – Tera who Yep, these companies haven’t learned yet, due to pure corporate greed, that if you screw over the players – you’re going down faster than a kitten down the toilet…
Congratulations your gear is now obsolete, time to go grind some ascended gear, then the next tier after that all the way up to legendary armor
It’s basically going the same way as WAR. A number of people, myself included, saw this possibility in the beta. By centring the game around a gear grind as they have, they’re forcing people into high level areas, which means that all zones other than the current stat darling (fractals) will be empty.
People have been posting pictures of completely empty zones where every waypoint that can be contested is, in fact, contested. People are too busy grinding away in the fractals, and due to the waypoint travel tax, they don’t want to pay in order to help out with anything else.
The same thing happened in WAR due to vertical progression. And within six months, WAR was dead. To be honest, the parallels between WAR and GW2 are quite surprising. It’s almost like a cloned game in some respects. And even PvP fans are falling out of love with the PvP, just like in WAR.
I give this game another three months before NCsoft realises there’s something wrong and cuts funding to it. After a year, it’ll be on life support. By its second year it’ll go the way of CoH.
I could see this happening as well if they don’t start listening, fast. Rewards in the game suck, and nerfing rare drop rates while the patch notes say the opposite, pigeon-holing everyone into Fractals to the detriment of every other piece of content in the game and adding a vertical progression/gear treadmill/hardcore grind are all quick ways to run the game into the ground.

Did you miss the memo about vertical progression going forward?
im on sorrows furnace log in around 5pm pst btw nothing was empty except malchors leap untill plinx nerf
So it’s American servers having a population problem then?
Not only. Yesterday during evening hours, on Gandara, i did a run through whole 3 orr zones to Arah (to unlock waypoints and check karma armor sites with my newly leveled alt). On my way i met like 3 people, a group of 10 people unlocking Melandru, and one (yes… one) person at Arah entrance. In 3 end content zones.
The people are still around – enough at least that Dragons are still being done, but beyond few key events late game zones are empty (and starting ones have a visibly reduced population).
And Gandara is still well above average when it comes to population levels…
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I don’t even mind the game having lofty progression goals if the content was fun enough to keep me interested. The game for some reason just isn’t that fun. Started off good but it doesn’t seem to have legs to keep me interested like other MMO’s have had in the past. I feel like the quests are extremely generic. Dynamic quests have been done better in other games and WvW and pvp just doesn’t have the same appeal as it did in Daoc.
I really think they should add capturable abilities to the game like GW1 and throw them on old dungeon mobs so that people have a reason to go back there, or to obscure parts of the world. It also could help with the boredom. I have a hard time staying interested in a class for very long in this game, could just be my perception but I just don’t feel like there is enough abilities for the weapons types I prefer using and there should be more than 5 per weapon. This could be achieved with stances.
WvW should have different map layouts for each section. I think that having only 1 copied 3 times is a bit boring. They need to look at more guild pride type things as well like a trackable page of keep caps and kills and other stats per guild with a world ranking like the Camelot Herald from Daoc. Guild crests on capes and shields or guild colors on armor etc.
They have already stated that GW2 has surpassed all expectations from a selling point. Not to mention that the jan and feb updates sound great and will get even more people to play.
Yes because companies always tell the complete truth abot everything to do with their own products right?
The huge and sudden push towards grind and pay-to-win make me think that there is a huge internal row going on at Anet between the bizdevs who want to milk the playerbase for all it’s worth and the designers/programmers who just want to make a great game.
I don’t see how Nexon has such an influence in NCsoft though last I looked freaking NCsoft was like 167,000 won. Nexon bought a 14.7 percent share that doesn’t give them majority hold. It’s kind of weird because NCsoft is like worth $100+ a share. Where as Nexon is like 11 bucks a share. Shouldn’t NCsoft be buying Nexon?
Mostly it’s NCsoft, due to their stock dropping like crazy. Foreign investors are pulling out. Nexon just took a bite because their stock is dropping. Now investors want a return.
Personally I’d buy Nexon stock over NCsoft. Just buy low with Nexon and wait for Nexon to buy at least 50% of NCsoft, and you’ll be rich.
I don’t think you should be giving investment advice when you fail to understand basic stock concepts like number of issued shares and market cap.
Lol designers don’t fix anything, they just make programmer’s lives hell.
They don’t post here because 1) the PR department ties their hands and 2) they barely care what you think, their design is perfect!
Yes I work in the games development industry.
Like every mmo, the main reasons of slow game death is a mix of bad classes balancing, not quick reaction to some annoying bugs, and lack of involvement of community in their patches. It’s a bit strange that the communication between the devs and community is almost nearing zero, since this game depends on the community interest to get money.
my proposed solutions:
- setup a test server to gather feedback and catch breaking bugs before going live (jumping bug anyone).
-start weekly QA that respond to all questions without taboo, so the community can feel implicated in the future of this game.
-have constant implication of class designers in their forums. that infuriates alot of people when their class is nerfed, bugs not fixed, issues not acknowledged etc.
-question their long term design decisions and involve community on that process. this is the most important part: they must be able to adapt a core feature (www, pve, etc) to bring players together.
Last remark: it seems that they’re going the monthly event route to keep players in the game. I don’t think that’s a valid long term strategy and a response to increasingly empty zones, servers, and disheartened community.
This short term low vision strategy of pumping out events and ignoring the valid pleas of the community solely made me leave the game.

Number 2 depends on if they go by Agile or Waterfall. I think that they probably do take a lot of our feedback but they have to mull it over in the boardroom to see if what we want is feasible and of course their could be other barriers or higher ups giving them directives which could affect what they are even allowed to change, who knows now that Nexon is involved.

What he said doesn’t make any sense but the enterprise value for Nexon is indeed quite a bit larger than NCsoft’s even though NCsoft’s market cap is higher.

Now that is a bit rude and not a nice way to communicate with people. Using a kinder, more friendly language wouldn’t hurt anyone..
Anyway agreed with OP.

He is probably just annoyed that people were naturally taking the stance that the op was being silenced for speaking out against the “evil” corporation and wanted to stop the misinformation before it got out of hand.

Sure that is understandable but couldn’t he make his points in a friendlier language? The way moderation ‘handles it’ with that message above made me take that stance for instance..
Lol designers don’t fix anything, they just make programmer’s lives hell.
Lol, yeah, designers don’t fix bugs indeed, but they sure as hell can redesign something to fix an issue. I worded that wrongly.
My point was that it’s probably pointless to ask a dev about what is done about bug X, Y and Z, since they got better things to do. And as you just said, they aren’t the ones fixing the bugs. Which makes it fairly pointless for a developer to answer questions about the status of certain bugs.
PLUS
People are already saying "he said they were looking into it … but its still not fiiiiixed.. "
Yeah, that’s making it real smooth to talk about things.

i wonder, what are you actually afraid of?
isnt it common service to be transparent and allwo critics or at least discussion of your service to customers?
every serious buisness appreciates feedback even if its related to the staff / managers / boss himself!
if you go to the supermarket and some of the vendors are unfraindly or did some horrible job, there is none legal policy which forbids you to discuss it!

2. I’m seeing people EVERYWHERE.The game is not dying. Snap out of it.
Why do you guys keep taking for granted that that is any indication of the players actually logged on?
The truth is we don’t know how the server status is handled, but since it appears in the home server choice / transfer window it makes a lot more sense that it has to do with how many accounts have any server as a home server rather than how many concurrent players are online at any given time on that server.
Before you use that as a proof of the good health of the game, you need to know precisely how it works, and you don’t. None us us does.
However, a lot of other things, like the introduction of ascended gear, which they said was a reaction to players hitting the so-called “lengendary wall”, point towards a bleeding in active players. A bleeding that is so relevant that prompted ArenaNet to take an action they expected it would be received very badly by the community. Both the reason of the introduction of ascended gear and the expected players’ reaction are not an assumption, they come from the words of ArenaNet’s representatives.
Or, in other words, it points towards xfire numbers coming from a statistically valid sample and being a faithful representation of the whole player base.
I’m guessing majority of players don’t go to forums and post how happy they are with the game if they enjoy it. That’s why it’s kinda easy to assume that most ppl are unhappy. I’m not saying the state of the game is ok, just sayin’ it’s not THAT bad…yet.
“We just don’t want players to grind in GW2” – C. Johanson
