If it makes you feel any better a buddy of mine salvaged his dusk that he got when he was a nub. He quit the game after he found out how much it was worth.

You could get this skin easily from SPvP before the patch.

Yeah, you would think they would make precursors stand out with maybe special text colour or something, but nooo, screw that, would be too logical and convenient.

Well… I wouldn’t say that a touch of dyslexia makes you the “dub-mest” player ever. Or maybe you’re just a bit fumble-fingered on your keyboard today. I suppose that could contribute to clicking the wrong thing in-game.

It would be awesome if ANet would create a courtesy pop-up box for people making mistakes of this caliber. “You are about to destroy the precursor weapon used to create the Legendary rifle The Predator. Are you sure you want o do this?” The bold text should be bold and flashing and maybe surrounded by neon lights, just to drive it home that this is not a typical caution pop-up box.

White knight disclaimer: I’m not saying this isn’t 100% user error or that I think ANet owes it to us or anything, bros, I’m just saying I’ve seen a handful of posts recounting tragedies like this, so it would be cool if they implemented something like this.

Each precursor has a blue text that describes how it’s a precursor to a legendary

I rarely salvage exo’s, so cant say this is something I’d attempt, but they definitely need to make them stand out more or something.

CS has replaced many of the precursors that were accidentally salvaged or otherwise destroyed. If you know the approximate time of the incident, you could contact them and submit a request.

Although, remember, that some skins were able to be earned in PvP or from Achievement Chests, and it is possible that is where the skin came from.

Maybe you got it from PVP? I have the hunter skin I got from the achievement chests.

What a few of the above said. Wife has her the hunter skin From spvp rewards. Think she got it in those pvp reward chests that come with Achievement point chests.

Oh boy, so when I was waiting for my group in the fractal frozen I wanted to salvage the rare I picked up. I forgot that I switched out my Sunrise for the staff earlier and wasn’t paying attention … so puff. Sunrise salvaged … for one Mithril Ore.
I submit a ticket so hopefully Anet can restore it. But just throwing it out there, don’t be the other guy like me. Don’t even touch your salvage kit when your legendary is in your bag T_T

You might of got it from Spvp. I had a friend who noticed that in his wardrobe and wasn’t sure where he got it from till he remembered having it in spvp.

This is also why there’s already a prompt when salvaging rare and higher items. Kinda hard to accidentally salvage something unless you’re mindlessly clicking ok without reading.

Are you sure there isnt another exotic weapon that shares the same skin? Spark for example has a clone named usoku’s needle that drops in caudecus manor. But that rifle has a really cool skin, i doubt you wouldn’t notice it if you have looted it.

So i needed to complete my weaponsmith crafting, so i salvaged every exo and rare. I needed rifle, so i buy it form commendations, and found a nic skin for it, that was like month ago. Today i noticed, i salvaged PRECURSOR WORTH 800G!

Except he was salvaging exos and rares, so was getting those messages for everything. Maybe a second message saying “Are you for real? It’s a precursor man, a PRECURSOR!”

I have this recurring nightmare that some time in the first couple of months I put a precursor in the forge, before I knew any better.

It makes not sense to have this salvagable in the first place. You’d be a complete idiot if you see value in destroying a pre. Everyone keeps it or sells it.

i would ask for a account reset to a date you know you had the precursor. preferably a day before you salvaged it

i REAAAALy wish i knew i could do this like a year ago.
ihad a dusk that i did not know i had in my bags(got it from random drop…did not notice)
and salvaged it by accident
it was in a time when you had to check “yes i want to salvage this item” for green items
and dusk had a basic gs pic at the time sooooo….1 thing led to another

They really need to add some kind of protection system to gear that you have soul bound or account bound so that it cannot be sold at a vendor or salvaged unless you type in your account name, and this protection should get auto applied to any new loot over a certain value, like a precursor.

Yes, but how many rares and exotics do you salvage? Closing that warning becomes habit after a while so there needs to be a higher level of warning on higher level items. I have wanted to turn that one off as I ‘farm’ ectos and dark matter a lot and it gets really annoying. Salvaging account/soul bound items should trigger a prompt for username as that is rarely done.

I disagree.

I think we should be able to put some kind of lock on our characters and soul bound items. If my account got hacked, a lot of my secondary characters are in exotics and those could be salvaged for ecto and my Ascended stuff could be sold to a merchant for gold.

I would like to be able to add a 72 hour time lock to character deletion and stuff like that to make it harder for a hacker to burn down everything I’ve created.

I got hacked in GW1 and lost two sets of Obsidian Armor (basically legendary armor in that game) Vabbi Armor and tons of other stuff – the sad thing is that armor that cost me over 1 million platinum probably netted someone about 30-50Platinum in salvaged mats. It’s like those idiots that destroy a $3000 air conditioner for $30 in copper parts – grrr.

If I could have made all that stuff permanent, I would have. That would be a great feature for people in the “never delete a character” club.

Totally feel you. I was clearing my inventory after another haul through Fractals and salvaging everything and was about to salvage an exotic but decided to share it with my guildies. The item was Leaf of Kudzu…I was THIS close to salvaging a 600g precursor

How is salvaging not related to crafting? It’s one of the main methods to obtain crafting materials.

You likely had that skin through spvp and then unlocked it in your wardrobe when the feature patch went live, as did I.
