The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome
So doing the achievements to complete the daily rewards what exactly?
After rereading the article on the changes, I still like them better than the old system. Looks like that if I do want to do dailies, I will get more ap rewards……also looks like I will be getting more aps in wvw, as well. And then my laurel every day for just logging in.
What’s not to like? Jmo, of course.

So doing the achievements to complete the daily rewards what exactly?
Each daily has it’s own rewards.
- Killing the jungle wurm in Caledon awards 25 Dragonite Ore, 2 XP scrolls and a rare item. (I assume that’s in addition to the rare from the boss chest.)
- The one for claiming WvW borderlands gives you extra WXP and badges of honour.
- The PvP ones all seem to give bonus progress on your current reward track.
And then if you do any 3 dailies you also get 10 achievement points.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Far fewer choices in pve for those who only do pve. This is an amazingly crappy change. I thought we were going to get more options not less. You already did Less and people HATED it. You can’t be that clueless Anet.
Add more options!
Here’s the thing, the previous dailies provide more options but the options themselves are very very general like “Daily Events”, “Daily Kills”, etc. The options are there but you can practically accomplish them without you even knowing it.
The new dailies are actually really good in that the requirements to complete the daily are less by 2 but the objectives themselves are specific. It just feels slightly more accomplishing, at least for me anyway, in actually doing a daily.
If the concern lies in getting the laurel for each daily then the log-in rewards provide you that while accomplishing a specific daily will just get you the reward specific to said daily along with some AP. In a way, it’s less tedious to do if your concern is just that laurel.
Agreed. At least for my playing style.
Looks like it will work great for the way I play.
I guess I am just not getting why some people are gritching about the changes so much. I am not sure why it so drastically effects a certain playstyle, as some people state. I guess it just comes down to certain people actually enjoying dailies and not wanting any possible bumps to a system that they already enjoyed.
If I played that way, I guess I might be a bit unhappy, too.

The only plus to this whole thing is that the laurels are now tied in to logging in and not to doing the daily, if I understand things right.
Sounds fabulous to me!
Especially because the AP rewards have been far from lackluster and I will never get the full set of either reward armor , or I have to keep playing this game for another 5 years or so.

That is the biggest part of the change that I really, really like. The AP reward for doing the daily is so much better than the old system. I think it is a great improvement!
Plus, as you listed above, better rewards in other areas as well, like wxp and badges of honor.

Thank you. That’s what I had read in the blog post and seen.
So the only incentive to do the daily is for the 10 AP. You only have to do 3 daily achievements now to get 10 AP compared to before where you had to do 10. I can tell you from experience that getting all of the daily achievements before the update took between 30-60 minutes depending on your luck with a few.
It seems like all players benefit from this. If they want AP, they can do the daily achievements and get 10 AP from doing only 3 of the daily achievements across the three format types. Seems like a pretty great deal. You also get various rewards specifically for doing each daily achievement which we didn’t get before. On top of this, many of the existing daily achievements were shortened such as gatherer allowing for them to be completed quicker than before.
Laurels are now rewards through the login reward system by simply logging in. Unlike before where you had to do 5 achievements, you can simply spend under a minute of your day just logging in just to get credit. If you don’t care for AP, you no longer have to bother doing the daily achievements. Over the course of the month, you get 29 laurels and various other rewards. At the end of the month, you get a choice of rewards where laurels is an option. Very nice! If you can’t login at all for a period? No worries! Your progress is saved.
I dont get it. It seems like dailies are EASIER than before. Log in for 5 seconds, get a laurel, and log out. I doubt anyone got their dailies done in less time than that with the old system.
The new “dailies” is a completely different system with new rewards people weren’t getting before, so why should you be entitled to get more stuff with 0 effort?
I guess the new stuff being called dailies while the old dailies are now called log in rewards was too confusing to some people. This game really must have been too confusing before the NPE after all.
They really ought to explain it better in the patch notes if its so confusing, but i guess it will just take a few days for some people to get it.

i dont understand it for one minute, forcing people to try to beat the Great Jungle worm, led to total confusion with lots waiting Calendon forest waiting on the Jungle worm, and when i did pursuade some to go to Bloodtide, it was just anarchy and a total lag fest -which of course is going to happen at every one of these events that are part of the “daily”.
I would normally be able to complete them while lvling a lower lvl toon, exploring on any toon, doing wvw – whatever i fancied – now i dont have a clue what the heck im going.. if this is Anets attempt to keep people interested, its having the negative effect on me
edited – ok ive eventually got my head around this and imo it horrid, just for logging in i got coins – what is the point of dailies now? 30 lvl 80s doing a lvl 10 escort quest in queensdale, if you had a new human toon, dont even bother trygin to do quests at the mo – you wont hit anything!

Again….agreed. Scratching my head over why some players are howling about this.

I think this is a great change. Dailies were getting to be too much of a ‘job’ for me….I really didn’t enjoy doing them that much just so I could get my laurel. I had gotten to the point where I just did wvw or explored pve, and if I got the daily, fine…..if not…..well ok.
Now that I get a laurel just for logging in, I can kiss the dailies goodbye…..sweet!!!!Love the new changes to the system!
I would be willing to bet that my wife will like the changes, too…..as she was also treating dailies like a necessary job to do in game for the laurel…..now she will be able to get the laurel for just logging in, and then can spend her time doing other stuff that she enjoys much better than the daily drudgery.
Your underlining point says nothing on the actual changes to the dailies itself (and this is an opinion I’ve seen brought up a couple of times). Its a non sequitur. Basically you hated doing dailies before, still hate doing them now, but “love” the changes because now you get your laurel just for login. Or in other words, you don’t really “love” the changes, you just love getting your free laurel. They could have just given us the free laurel and left the dailies alone.
PS: I still haven’t even gotten my laurel, for that matter. I had 87 last I checked yesterday, still have 87 today. Plus I don’t normally check the forums, so I didn’t know about these changes, and didn’t even complete my dailies last night, cuz I thought I had time to do them today.
Far fewer choices in pve for those who only do pve. This is an amazingly crappy change. I thought we were going to get more options not less. You already did Less and people HATED it. You can’t be that clueless Anet.
Add more options!
It’s a good change.
It rewards people who enjoy all areas of content, incentivizes players to try other forms of content, and is possible for people who refuse to expand their horizons. If you’re intent on only doing PvE, then you’ve got a self-imposed restriction that is making it more difficult than it needs to be for you.
Note that this message comes to you from a guy who pretty much ONLY does PvE and who will need to expand his own horizons now.
Here’s the thing, the previous dailies provide more options but the options themselves are very very general like “Daily Events”, “Daily Kills”, etc. The options are there but you can practically accomplish them without you even knowing it.
That was the good thing about it, though. No need for extra grind, usually you can just play normally and get it and then get a small reward for logging in and playing.
I like the fact that the laurel is tied to log in, I like that each daily has its own rewards, what I don’t like is how specific each daily is.
If they are going to limit the dailies to 4 PvE options and then limit them to specific zones, I can see the high level areas becoming quieter than ever as all the dailies will have to be aimed at the lower level zones to give the lower level characters a chance. Instead of Queensdale events, Kryta events would be better, instead of the Caladon jungle wurm any world boss would do. Out of today’s 4, 2 of them are in level 1 -15 areas and one is in Lions Arch, only Maguma forager can be done in a high level zone.

Ok, you’re reading a lot into my post that isn’t there. I never said I “hated” dailies….just that they were becoming too much a chore for me, when I could just go off and do other things that I enjoyed more. Giving me a laurel for logging in….yes…..love that change. There are lots of times when I login where I don’t want to do dailies, but wanted to get a laurel….so had to do the daily. Now, when I login, I get the laurel….so there is no implied pressure for me to do the daily, unless I actually want to.
I love the fact now that IF I do want to do dailies….I only have to do 3, and I get 10ap for that! Much better than before! And yes, I LOVE that change!
Plus the added wxp and badges of honor changes are also really good, imo.

Exactly. As I mentioned before, it was a nice little incentive to log in and do some stuff everyday (even if only for a while). Now they’re so specific and require you to go out of your way to get them that it feels like a chore.
I can no longer get rewarded just for picking up mats or killing random stuff as I complete the map. Now I have to leave the map to go to a specific location kill a worm, do a specific number of events on a specific map I might be tired of playing on, swap characters, etc.
I too dislike the new daily. And if somebody is going to say that i don’t like it because I am forced to do wvw and pvp, most of us already did pvp and wvw.

I’m not reading into anything. I’m just saying that from the stuff you actually mentioned on that post (I didn’t notice any of your other posts until after I posted that) the only thing you really mention that you like is that now you get a laurel just for login in, so you no longer have to do the dailies to get that and can just ignore them (what I meant by the “underlying point” of your post). That point doesn’t really seem to follow, since the laurel specifically doesn’t speak directly to the changes to the dailies themselves as a game activity, as opposed to just getting that specific reward. They could have just giving us the free laurel and otherwise left the dailies as they were (Daily Kills, Daily Gather, etc.) and it would have been the same thing.
And I didn’t necessarily mean “hate” in a strong sense. Just that you were tire of doing them.
I liking it so far but in saying so this is coming from a player who does most if not ALL of the daily achievements (the only ones I don’t do is the dungeons related dailies).
To those who don’t like the new update, try doing the PVP AND the WvWvW dailies on a daily basis (getting the daily defenders is the worse as it depend if the commander is good and if the zerg is large enough) as it’s pretty much end up being a chores especially when I aim to fill 2 ranks bars per day (well it’s varies depending if I got alot of free times or now). Doing all three game modes takes hours when I have other stuff to do.
This new update saved alot of time from my end and it making it less of a burden for the better.
Lastly yes I fully aware they are not making up do the daily as it’s up to me if I want to do it or not.

Okay, so I spent 25 minutes doing dailies for AP and experience for alts instead of playing the new patch.
What should I like again about that change?
At least experience is bottled and can be passed…
If dailies were a job before this new system then what are they now? What use to take 20 minutes for me has become a job today with this new system in place. I am willing to give it a chance but I see fewer laurels in my future as it stands now. I do think this system is a little pvp and wvw heavy for those that play only pve. As a pve person you will have to got out of your way for the completion. Will it cause me to quit or get emotional? Not even. I do want to express that not all change has been good for this game though and I think this is one of those changes in my opinion. The rule KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) applies here as well as ‘if ain’t broke don’t fix it’.
You no longer earn Laurels from the daily.
They are given to you simply by logging in.

And if you want, you can still do the other dailies for the rewards chests.. Most of the PVE ones I’ve received so far have has 1 or 2 Experience Scrolls in them which are account bound – I’ll probably save them up and when I get a full stack of them, use them on a new character just to see how far it will take me from level 1.

Yeah, I’m still learning the new system. Its possible some of the event-specific rewards (complete X events in specific map, etc.) might be worth it on the long run. But I just loved been able to log, if only for a while, and “achieve” some type of reward just by doing random stuff along the way. Now I have to do stuff like specifically leave the map (potentially spend travel money I’ve been trying to save) to go to a different location I may otherwise have no need or interest in going to (like the Queensdale events they have today, which is a map I’m tired off from running too many low lv characters recently) and it just feels too much like a chore, whereas before I just got them along the way to whatever I was doing.
The daily today had 5 PVE catagories:
1) do 4 queensdale events
2) kill jungle worm
3) collect 4 plants in maguma jungle.
4) create something in the mystic forge
5) finish 3/4 daily catagories
Problems with each:
1) queensdale became a laggy. Too many people at each event who were basically one hitting enemies. I was at an escort event i got no credit for, becuase the mobs all died before my skills could activate. Bad idea packing a specific starter zone like that.
2) I just missed it. So now i have to wait for specific bosses to spawn? What a pain!
3)This one was Okay.
4) I don’t normally use the forge but since I missed the worm, I had to do it. it wasn’t difficult. However, it isn’t PVE, its crafting.
5) finish 3 catagories? You only need three. Not really helpful getting it when your done.
This is way more restrictive than the old system. Likewise for the monthy. When i have time to play I could get the monthly reward. Now I have to carve out time each day to do this 28 days or no reward? Why not lower the threshhold to 15 days? I’m busy sometimes.

I can understand why you feel that way. The old system was becoming a similar chore to me, as I felt like there was some pressure there for me to do the daily to get my laurel and the measly 3ap. That is gone for me now with the new system, as the laurel is taken care of with logging in, and I now get 10ap for doing only 3 things, rather than 3ap for doing 5 things……so that means a bit more incentive to do it all for me, since the ap reward is a lot better.
But yes, forcing you to go to places that you don’t enjoy to do the daily(or whatever is the proper name for it, now) would be a bit of a pain, too, for some.
And I might completely change my mind on all this after doing it for a month or so.

You don’t have to do it 28 days consecutively. You can miss a day, a week, or a month and still retain your progress.

The monthly is based on simply logging in. You don’t need to complete the daily assuming I understood you correctly. You don’t lose progress on the login rewards system.
Under the new daily system, you get more rewards and only have to do three achievements to get 10 AP. Before, you would only get 3 AP. The only reason to do daily achievements are for the avhuevement specific rewards or for the 10 AP. Those going for the AP are much better off now than they were before the update.
“Play how you want” is long dead by the looks of it.
I used to be able to always get my daily just by doing the things I enjoyed. The daily pretty much always “just happened”
Now it seems I need to run around doing things I wouldn’t normally want to. Specific times, places and classes.
No matter, I just won’t be getting much more AP. I never put too much effort into chasing it before, unless 20 or so off a 1,000 boundary. I guess now that effort will be nil.
So I’m not too bothered by the change, after all. It does seem like every change you make makes the game weaker though.
I think it really depends how you did your daily and what you did your daily for. But, for the vast majority of situations I think this benefits people.
Pros:
Your material rewards from the old daily are no longer linked to completing daily. You log and get them.
As a AP standpoint, it takes less time to obtain max AP under the new system than the old.
Each daily has a specific reward related to the content.
For people that enjoy variety, There are many different things to do every day. It is no longer a daily wash and repeat routine.
Cons:
You no longer are awarded AP for simply playing the game. You have to go out and accomplish specific objectives.
… thats really the only con I can think about.
If you didn’t care about AP in the first place you really don’t have anything to complain about. For those of us that did, it is now way easier to hit the max AP everyday.

Wow dude if you can’t you come up with a better reason than the new system is too inconvinient for you then you should stop playing games

3) collect 4 plants in maguma jungle.
4) create something in the mystic forge
5) finish 3/4 daily catagoriesProblems with each:
1. Then come back later when the zone isn’t so crowded. Typical that a zone should be so packed right after the update goes live with a specific zone to do something in. I imagine this will get much more tolerable and easier after the patch has been live for a bit. Also, did you join the escort event really late, or at the beginning? The escort will be more than long enough to get in a hit or two…….your comment on the escort seems to indicate that you came in at the very end…..so I can understand why you might not get credit for it. Repops on most escorts don’t usually take very long, so you could easily get back in on the beginning of it in not too much time.
2. You do realize that there are several sites out there that list the times of all the bosses and what sort of schedule they’re on, yes? No need to wait….just check one of the many online schedules.
3. Crafting has been PvE ever since the origination of crafting in mmorpgs. You don’t have to kill another player to craft, so yes, it is Player vs Environment. And crafting is super easy and quick, once you see how it is done.
Also, you do realize that the ‘monthly’ will no longer exist, yes? As explained in the patch notes, the existing monthly will go ahead and play out for those in the middle of it, but after this monthly expires, there will no longer be ‘monthlies’.

Now I have to carve out time each day to do this 28 days or no reward? Why not lower the threshhold to 15 days? I’m busy sometimes.
You don’t have to do it 28 days consecutively. You can miss a day, a week, or a month and still retain your progress.
Yeah, but if you don’t then you aren’t getting your full mothly reward for the year. That means you are getting the reward less frequnetly.
@Mireles Lore
I should add one more Pro to that: No more of the same rewards from doing the same daily anymore. I mean, it can get tiresome getting the same old Mystic Coin, Liquid Karma and I forget what the third one was in addition to the laurel.

Still better than actually being punished for not being diligent with going in, right? I mean, you get rewarded less but you are rewarded all the same.

True. Getting the full rewards would be pushed back for however many days that you were not on. Would you really be so busy that you cannot login even for a minute?
Also, here’s a bit of math. There are 365 days in a year. The achievement is based on 28 days which is 336 days. This gives you a buffer if 29 days or an extra month compared to the old monthly system.
The daily today had 5 PVE catagories:
1) do 4 queensdale events
2) kill jungle worm
3) collect 4 plants in maguma jungle.
4) create something in the mystic forge
5) finish 3/4 daily catagoriesProblems with each:

1) I was there for the event not the end. I was on an Ele (long cast times) and between the lag and people one hitting everything, I did not kill enough to get credit, although I did kill a few mobs. Come back later is not a valid answer. Its too narrow an area to pack people into. I shouldn’t have to play around a design problem by returning later.
2) I don’t use third party sites, and I shouldn’t have to to complete my daily. I do use wiki, but their info is hit and miss. Still the requirement is too specific which leaves you waiting for a spawn. Again bad design.
3) crafting is crafting. Its an optional part of the game. It’s not PVE. There’s not enough PVE only options. Using the MF was not that bad, but still.

That’s completely pointless, as monthlies no longer exist after the December one is done. And with the additional wxp, ap, laurels, and other drops and rewards added by the patch…..the whole monthly thing won’t even be missed by most players.
It is sounding more like you are really just trying to find things with this patch to complain about, when, in the long run, your rewards/ap/etc……will end up being far better than the old system.

Ok, your point is noted, but i don’t want to get them less often than others due to my schedule.
They always manage to screw something up with every update now it seems… last time we got the monumental cluster[bleep] of the gem & gold conversion restrictions (which, thankfully got reversed due to our outcry), and now this – which restricts how we get our dailies (Like for me, I do EOTM all the time, and getting my dailies was fine before, but now I have to go to the main WvW borderlands to get my dailies done – there aren’t many EOTM specific dailies).
I think we should be expecting a ‘dumb & dumber’ situation with each patch now :-/
I like we only have to get 3 dailies now, but PLEASE for frogs sake, give us more variety/options to choose from.
Now I have to carve out time each day to do this 28 days or no reward? Why not lower the threshhold to 15 days? I’m busy sometimes.

So, using that point…..I should have been loudly complaining before with dailies because others were completing more dailies than I was, due to my schedule????
That affects everyone in mmorpgs. If you don’t play as often as others, you won’t get as many rewards, drops, aps, etc……it is just the way these sorts of games work. Just because your ‘schedule won’t allow it’ does not mean that you should get the same rewards as others in the game that can spend more time playing it.
Or maybe I am completely misunderstanding your point?

I like doing my dailies, but there are some bad design elements to it. Instead of jungle worm, it could be one of a few bosses. Instead of confining everyone to queensdale (tiny area) they could expand it to a few more areas.
More importantly, I think the OP was correct. There should be more PVE options. Like I said, you needed 3/4 to finish. Why not 3/6?
The new system made the game much better, I hope they don’t change it back
I just don’t like the restriction on choice, but the actual bags you get aren’t as bad as I feared.
Too many pvp choices, and some of the pve ones are just silly, compared to capturing a keep which might not happen at all if your side isn’t doing well when you’re on.

I re-installed for a short while. I’ve played over 4 toons, 3 80’s one NPE (horrible, all she does it twang, twang, twang, twang, twang, twang, twang, looks at map chat for some relief, nope so, twang, twang, twang, twang, twang, twang, twang) just farting about, levelling, doing random world bosses and haven’t achieved one daily. What’s that about? I have to literally do what ANet tell me to get a daily now, no dice ANet.
Lot of dailies in starting zones too, that because of an influx of newbies or a departure of others thanks to NPE failure, you decide. Remember though, it’s all about metrics.
Also noticed you managed to make the invasive top right pointless shopping list even more desperate by adding underlines to attract our eyes more. Cheap moves allover.
Steam, take my money this Christmas!
How much does it cost to send a lump of coal internationally? Nvm, Anet will probably find a way to charge me if I did.

Awful. Bad enough that they restricted the choices, but now the rewards are tailored to the activity, so wvw completion means you get..wait for it..BADGES (like we haven’t already got 20-100k of them sitting in wh doing sod all as they are pretty much useless) and half a wvw rank.
So basically it’s forcing players to go do things they don’t want even more than previously if they want anything other than useless wvw rewards.
Thanks Anet.
Based on todays daily achievement rewards none of the items you get from them are unique. So if you don’t want to do the dailies you can just get them from somewhere else.
For example, today’s PvE dailies award the following:
- 25 dragonite ore
- 6 XP scrolls
- 1 rare item
- Various plants (cooking mats)
- 1 mystic coin
- 1 sip of karma
If you’re doing EOTM you’ll be getting XP and karma faster than most people playing PvE anyway and getting dragonite ore from champions. You could gather the plants while you’re there, or buy them from the TP. So that leaves the mystic coin, which you get 2 of just for logging in.
