I don’t like the look and feel of Curse Shore. I don’t like Risen and I don’t like the weapon type enemies.

But what I really really hate about Orr are three things: The mob density is too high, the respawn rate is too high and there are so many things with the only purpose to anoy players. The auras of the contested statures are one thing, but the undead tentacles on the southern isle (kittenula?) are totally uncalled-for. They are not interesting, make leaving your keyboard even for thirty seonds impossible and take longer to kill than to respawn.

It is simply not fun playing there.

Any other opinions or tips how to deal with Cursed Shore (except avoid it)?

The idea behind the Cursed Shore was for them to be open-world raid zones, basically. And I actually really like that in concept and it makes a lot of sense (the execution could use a few tweaks, however). They recently weakened the area substantially with regard to mob density and general difficulty, but it can still be a little rough.

But, really, the only real problem with Orr is that there isn’t enough alternative high level content. If there was, I would be very complacent thinking of Orr as a place I shouldn’t go to without companions. There isn’t quite enough going on there these days most of the time to make it worthwhile.

inb4 “density used to be worse before, now it is better”

but yeah, in my case the only reason i used to go ther ewas for map completition and when I was in a hurry for 5 events/veterans for the daily. In my case I hate the colors and the whole undead theme, which, was done so well, that it is unappealing to me. I prefer to spend my time in GW2 on pretty maps with colors and mobs that dont perma CC me. They did increase the drop rate of drops but…..until they lighten up the colors and add some life to that place, im not coming back.

Yes, I know, thats whats supposed to be, thats why thahearme is fighting so desperatly; he wants to bring life to it, but holy geezus, that zone is sure fugly, maybe if they add a small santuary made by Sylvaris in an attempt to replant life into it…idk…something!

Edit: kitten fort.
Trust me, the mob density is fine. If you think this is bad, then you would loathe this place more back in the early days (i got around by being pulled in different directions).

Orr is suppose to be sad, dreary, barren, hopeless. It sunk into the ocean by human folly, only to be raised and corrupted by the dragon of death, who makes it his home. So of course its going to be all undead, and denser mobs.

I guess my only request would be other undead models, but that fails since orr was an all human place.

I’m fine with the way it is now. It’s not supposed to be happy happy unicorn land, nor is it supposed to give you an easy time.

I don’t know if you are trying to solo the area, but it’s much better in a group.

+1 the idea of a small sanctuary where sylvari are trying to bring it back. And another +1 for more diversity of models.
I don’t go there anymore if I don’t have to. You could say their designers did too good of a job capturing the atmosphere of the place. So much so that people have an emotional response to the area corresponding to its design.
The one place I enjoyed was a small area where giant risen chicken spawned for an event. I have to say I had a blast doing that event. Otherwise I ran through those zones as fast as I could, being pulled most places. Back then it was sprint or die if you were a ranger alone. At least the density is less than before.

They recently weakened the area substantially with regard to mob density and general difficulty, but it can still be a little rough.

While they did dilute the Risen density, shortly after they buffed up their abilities/gave them new ones. Fire aura pirates, Risen Nobles dropping marks, heck i just saw this week some undead mob drop caltrops like a thief can, now. They’ve been given AOEs that – in my opinion – are quite over tuned, and make the experience unpleasant. I very much feel that their running speed is also nonsensical: a zombie is a corpse, and as such would be stiff from rigor mortis, hindering their mobility. Perhaps just making this change would balance things out? Or tone down the AOEs’ damage? Too much is like not enough.

Anyways… the game’s just 7 months old. I’m waiting to see what they do with things. In the meantime, i just avoid Risen areas as i can.

-Avoid it.
-Dodge a lot.
-Bring stunbreakers, stability, stealth, teleports, speed boosts etc.
-Deal with it.

Just who the hell do you think I am!?

I hate it too, but density is much better than it was before, however what annoys me the most is that they all cast cripple/immobilize and seem to pursue you for much greater distances than regular mobs do, so when I actually stop to fight them I have 4-5 of them on the leash.

We need two versions of the cursed shore.

Version one for the first time you go there, the way it was where the mobs were so tightly packed get arround was like comuting in the Tokyo subway. Version two how it is now so people realise how much easier it is.

I gave up my first time trying at 75 went away leveled to 80 got full exotic and went back and could just get from a to b alive on a guardian with a golf bag of condition removal.

Now ok it is bad in some spots but i made it on a level 75 in rares right round to pen with one death in one trip i know i sound like the “get off my lawn” guy but really in my day you couldnt see daylight between the mobs in Orr it is a lot easier than it was.

This is how the cursed shore used to be

Risen thrall running speed is crazy. They shouldn’t be able to keep up with you when you’re in OOC runspeed mode.

i used to really hate orr before they tweaked it…now
i just dislike 2 things in cursed shore

champion noble that protects a sp (i can dodge him if i climb up the right side wall and wait for him to pass) if he sees me im dead
andddd
the maze sp theres a fish that spits poison coupled with the 2 vets (one of which is genrally the sp veteran someone summoned and left) if you touch the fish you get swarmed

otherwise i can solo everything where as before id be running for my life dragging minions behind me while dodging other peoples trains

only advice i can give on the statues is guest prob get flamed for saying it but it does make life easyier if your server dont open the temples often

if going afk climb a tower as most of the places will get swarmed by the dead etc
but that advice goes for everywhere in the game i see alot of people going afk on the 1st floor in what they thinks a safe town and coming back to a naked character

Orr is the only endgame (if you don´t count the Icebear/Dredge map up north) us non PvPer, Dungeon/Fractal haters have and it is abysmal.

The ridiculous state it was in before “the nerf” was among my main reasons to slow down leveling on my main and run around with twinks alot.
But not for that long either.

I very much get the lore reason. The desolate look makes total sense for a place recently relocated from the bottom of the sea.

But it simply isn´t fun and doesn´t generate the appropriate atmosphere either.
Almost like a Zombie/(non sprakly tyvm)Vampire movie where they forgot to dim the lights and switched of the fog machine.

+1 for making it “hard” again, even harder! + add those fat exploding risen, they’re fun.

Then maybe revamp that fail 80 zone with the karka, add kittens and lollypop trees for those that like easy mode. just sayin…

southsun cove (i think is the one you refering to) is still changing and is a part of the living story refugees so you might get to see kittens and lollipop trees there yet

on the exploding risen you refering to the fail ones in the sunless event?
theres a smaller version in orr already there surrounded by green and run at you dont see them that often (think there in straits) or prob just dont notice them.. there as pointless as the sunless version

The only Risen that is over-tuned imo is the Veteran Noble. The symbol + pull should have a longer CD, the aura of flies that does damage plus applies conditions lasts too long and does a bit too much damage. Otherwise, I find the new Risen to be both more challenging and more interesting.

Whisperwill Bogs at bloodtide coast, risen plague carrier. They remind me of the exploding undead in MYTH II: Soulblighter (classic RPG). In that game, when they would explode, the ground would ripple and deform. Relatively weak here, I’d see their health pool reduced and damage increased. Thus easy to kill with ranged weapons, but if you are not watchful, one may run in and explode causing heavy damage. I’d at least add them to meta events, occasional spawn attack, but also have a number of them wandering across the zone to make players more attentive to surroundings.

I wish there was 1 zone; just once zone where there are nothing but veterans and champions. Fireballs falling from the sky, lava pits and quick sand traps that swallow you whole. NPC’s stalking you in stealth and ambush you when you least expect it.

Make the world threatening and make the player feel like they’re being hunted.

I’m just taking a second character through Straits of Devastation now actually. Gotta say, it is kind of annoying now :-)

The contrast to my first run through is astounding though. The first time, there were literally characters everywhere I looked. Events were a breeze and frequent; skill points were generally in progress or freely available to capture.

Going through now I’ve seen perhaps only a handful of people on the main path and certainly no big stampeding groups to make life easier. I’m having to skip a lot of events, simply because there is no way a solo person could complete them. Of course there is always the group option, but I like the feeling of self-accomplishment I get from clearing a zone myself. Until that becomes too tedious I will just be skipping events for the most part, something I don’t think ANet really intended sadly.

They already nerfed Orr so that it’s essentially infantile mode now. If you think this is bad then you would’ve had a heart attack when you saw it before the nerf.

Now if you could add disabled map to the list and no teleporting (apart from death), I’d be a happy camper, dead often but quite happy. I was a fan of early eq1, played from release, loved how hard it was, getting lost, getting killed, even corpse recovery. Very few mmo’s are actually hard any longer, and those that are – are usually in the indie category and heavily pvp. Sadly, hard pve is long gone. omg, the complaining, cursed shore is sooooo not hard :/

dunno man, even though it sound hellish, it would be fun to play for a while indeed, but still doesnt change the fact that Orr is ugly. Like I said, it isnt about Orr being hard, it is about how hard is to stay there for more than an hour before growing sick of all the greyness and deadness
