Capes are a terrible idea. They would interfere with engi’s hobo sacks too much.

I liked the capes in Guild Wars, especially since the art and animation teams got such a fluid “flow” to the fabric. (Actually, other game designers asked how it was done, back in the day!)

I’d like to know how it was done as well. I always assumed there was some simple physics simulation behind the capes in GW1. But was it all just really clever animation?

Yeah, if you add capes to the game, PLEASE just make them drop into the regular backpiece slot, not some new “cape” stat slot. We really don’t need a whole new piece of Ascended gear added to the game.

It needs a New slot, so can be used with backpacks.
Doesn’t has to have stats… that’s right!

You know, we could get “capes” like Destiny has, it goes around the waist. Could be a good alternative.

So, you could have butt cape on your butt cape? Sounds good to me.

I have yet to see a game that had capes where the capes looked good. For the most part they look tacky and cartoonish. Even in comics I could never understand the reasoning behind Superman’s cape. It was a non-functional piece of equipment that did absolutely nothing. Batman on the other hand had one of the very few “functional” capes in the comics as his cape added to the bat image and persona. Robin on the other hand would have been better off without a cape.

Currently in GW2 we have back stored weapons and backpacks that conflict with each other. Adding a cape to the mix is going to be problematic. I for one would rather see a scabbard for my longsword then a cape as a scabbard would have functionality whereas a cape is just a piece of fabric hung around the neck serving no purpose whatsoever.

All these clipping things can be solved with designed standards…
A cape layer can be thin enough to keep your backpacks & weapons close to your armor.
The question is, how to animate it well…

The function? Style. Show-off.
Real function? It’s an additional thermal/humindity defense ofc.

One thing is sure; If it’s going to the place of current Back Slot, AN just going to shoot himself on the leg…

To me, Capes in the original Guild Wars always looked crappy. Guild Wars 2 uses the same graphics engine, so they’ll probably look just as bad.

Except the capes in GW1 at the time were known for being some of the best looking in any game…

Tera’s idea for capes was rather well done. Maybe we should take a page out of their book. They did a nice job with the split down the middle to allow no clipping on tails and had it taken back a little bit to prevent bad clipping issues.

Promised us? Show me where they ever promised us we would have capes. I am sure we would all love to see this.

No, I wasn’t really pointing at the Capes issue, I was talking about other stuff.
