I want Tengu as the next playable race!
eh…pass………..
Nope….we all want Largos to be the next playable race, none of us want to play an ugly overgrown chicken.
of course the playerbase would want humans with wings
just in time to fight bubbles
I think if they are ever going to add a race, Tengu would be most likely. They are pretty developed lore wise, and their city is also right next to a starting area. That’s gotta count for something.
If we ever get content based around the sea dragon and they added Largos, that’d be pretty neat too actually.
Who is ‘we’? I’d rather the Kodan.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

By Ogden’s beard you’re right!
Tengu are awesome. If they ever became playable I would replace most of my characters with them.
Tengu would probably have the tastiest flesh of any playable species so sure, why not.
(I’ve just started to pvp after three years so this thought came to me disturbingly easy. I should probably cut back already.)
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

I’m not particular to either, there are way more interesting races than Largos and Tengu.
But so far as design goes… Largos are just really bad knockoffs of drow. They are supposed to be this society of assassins from the deep ocean yet prior to the awakening of the dragons, had no competition in their realm, their only neighbors being the quaggan, (the krait have kept close to shore since ancient times) no conflict or deity or anything at all to inspire such an odd culture. Their biology makes, no sense, rigid wings would provide absolutely zero propulsion in water. The terrible accents… the monochromatic color scheme, seriously what was the design team on when they thought these things up? Just their combination of attributes makes them sound like they were taken directly from the scribblings of a middle schoolers notebook.

With the introduction of the Revenant, all arguments about “Anet would not do this, it does not fit the lore” are hopefully off the table. If the cry of tengu supporters is loud enough, Anet will listen.
Regarding the personal story, it is also pretty obvious now after 2 installations of ls that Anet does not design around logic. Most of their story is copy, alter and paste anyway. I don´t know about how much work it is to replace for example a norn with a tengu in the cutscenes, but if people have the time and ressources to implent arcade games in their expansion, I am pretty positive that it could be reasonably done.
“GW2 is western styled, it does not fit”
Tengu are already there, and they have been there from launch. So it does fit. And we celebrate the Chinese new year right now…
Flappy eared scientist smurfs have found their way into the world of GW2. I just hope thier next design decision is a little bit better, I want a tengu samurai.^^
Tengu are cool but I still prefer largos. Considering I still don’t have a charr or an asura character, tengu would probably go to waste in my hands. I seem to prefer characters that are more humanoid, for whatever reason.
However, I can’t deny that there would be a whole lot of customization options for a tengu character.
I doubt you’re never going to see Tengu playable, it would be to much work for Anet, they would have to go back and create/redesign all pre-existing sets of armor to fit the them.
Largos are humanoids so all armor will already work with them, all they would have to do is make three sets of cultural armor.

Charr are the same type of humanoids as Tengu. I am pretty sure that there are shortcuts in development for customization. If you think that Anet would not shove half finished or unfitting armor out of the door, ask any Charr player if he has not had at least one piece of armor that did not fit his toon from the perspective of porpotion.
You are giving Anet too much credit for aesthetics here.^^
Who is we? I would rather play as a Kodan.
Although I do think Tengu, along with Kodan, are the most likely to be a new playable race. Both have pretty well developed lore, with a lot more detail on their culture than most of the non-playable races (we know more about kodan society than the centaurs, who have been around since GW1). They’re also humanoid enough to be able to use the same weapons and armor and both have home areas adjacent to currently accessible parts of Tyria that are big enough for at least a starting zone and city.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Yes, sure….. add more races that are basically like Charr. You would be disappointed in less than a minute if you were Tengu, everything would clip just because of their physique. Charr is even the reason why we can’t have better armors and outfits cuz absolutely everything clips and stretches.
I remember when everyone said – “Don’t make female and male share outfit design”, then Anet gives Exemplar Attire Outfit and then everyone is like “wtf Anet female charr shouldn’t look like that”.
I feel like people need to see the bigger picture.
Don’t use the word ‘We’ so freely, I don’t want Tengu as the next playable race.
Simply because you want it, doesn’t mean that I want it.
Nope….we all want Largos to be the next playable race, none of us want to play an ugly overgrown chicken.
Largos would actually be a bad choice.
What we’ve seen of them is highly skilled individuals, working mostly on their own. They keep things hidden, creating an air of mystery about them and their race.
Turning them into a player race would strip all that from them. They would become common, the mysteries would be gone, and you’d see them getting wiped out in groups just like anyone else.
I’m really not fond of the Largos, but I’d still hate to see them reduced to that.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
I would LOVE to see a new playable race. Tengu would be my favorite because Largos are not just mostly extinct but I also don’t like their colors. Well if you could change the colors then I’d like them a bit more. Kodan are really boring… But well, I just want a new playable race.
No Quaggan please, I’m not interested on being a living balloon.

What about overgrown kitties?
Concerning the starting zone: I can’t see Anet recycle an existing one. However, Tengus as a playable race would really make sense if the next expansion was Cantha…
A starter area and getting all of the existing armor skins to fit just so you can have a new skin for your toon. No just no. A complete waste of resources.
I’d love to see Tengu as a playable race!
However … I do have one requirement. I’d want to be able to make a black feathered crow/raven looking Tengu. Not a fan of brightly coloured characters and pretty much exclusively dye armour in black, dark blue and grey.
Dwarves are cooler than any other race.
Let’s bring them along with Elves. I bet they will be the best addition to the GW universe!

Now gimmie my birdies so I can buy another 9 character slots. >.>

This.
Please use your resources to give us some cool content and don’t waste it on overgrown chicken.
I vote for Tengu or Dwarves. Only Dwarves won’t happen because they are supposed to be extinct. Unless they mess with time and space but that would not be such a good idea, even dr Who has hat its struggles with it :-p
And what is with all the people forcing opinions on others as a fact. let everyone have its own opinion please. Makes this forum a much better place to be on.

The Dwarves are not extinct.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dwarf
They are the oldest known race in Tyria and their true origins are unknown. A unique reintroduction could easily happen. I made a thread long ago about Dwarves from the mists as an idea to bring them back. There are many plausible ways to do it.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dwarf
The Dwarves currently on Tyria are now stone, and are in the underworld preventing the minions of Primordus from coming to the surface…
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Primordus
Game wise we could have another elder dragon and all sorts of cool stuff with it in game, and a reintroduction of the Dwarves… There could be a very rich and sensible story, along with a great boost to gameplay from having Dwarves and Primordus return…
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Depths_of_Tyria
New zones…
I can guarantee that if the devs made an xpac with Dwarves and Primordus and Depths of Tyria… It would be one of THE top selling expansions.

There a gerbil in your pocket?
Kodan seem more interesting to me. I’m not opposed to Tengu, but would rather see Kodan first.
I honestly don’t want any new player races. It seems like a huge waste of resources.

Ah, but a new race (assuming Tengu) brings more than just new looks.
A new race would bring in new lore. Just look at all the stuff you learn about the various races by playing through the first three parts of the personal story. For those of us that enjoy getting into the lore and feel of the various races, this is the real payoff of a new race.
A new race would bring in new skins. Aside from new cultural armor (which is, admittedly, limited to the race), there’s cultural weapons as well. If Tengu were brought in, at least one set of Tengu weapons would be expected, maybe two or three.
A new race would bring in a new enemy faction. Right now, the Tengu we actually fight are few and far between, with little made of their motivations. But every player race in the game has their dark side, and I’m sure Tengu would be no exception. It would likely be a political faction, the most isolationist of them all. In fact, it would be easy to say that we’ve “met” them before, that they had control of the gate during the attack on Lion’s Arch and gave the order to fire on everyone.
Finally, a new race gives you a reason to make a new character. This one’s more of a win for ANet than us, but it’s still a valid gain from a new race. Some would delete old characters and restart them, others would buy character slots and start fresh. Either way causes items to be shuffled around in the economy and new play time invested. Even someone that tomes straight to level 80 and has a deleted character’s gear to pass on will still want to replay some of the older content with the new character. More people engaged in playing throughout the game is good for the game, which is good for both ANet and the players. Sales of character slots is an added bonus.

“You ran from skr-itt”
Skritt- the op choice.
Well guys no need to worry that much and be whiny about this topic XD
With the “We” I was referring mainly to most of my guild mates and other people i spoke about online about Tengu and everyone else was interested in having Tengu as a playable race.
Anyway being it Tengu, Kodan, Largos or something else I can see that some people are agreeing about wanting a new race. Would it be possible? Maybe…Would it be worth it? Well it’s new content so it could be
Meanwhile i want fixed armors for charr instead of being neglected the whole time. Anyone even bothered to preview heavy ley line armor on charr? How it look on human and how it look on charr? Right..
Playing Smite since mid s2, f broken gw2.

Yeah, some people just sort of include themselves when others talk in first person possessive.
“You don’t speak for me!” /fingersnaps
“I wasn’t. My friends and I, hence the ‘we’, would like this.”
And I’d happy cash out for Tengu or Kodan. The Tengu are a vibrant race with lore, and they can cross-over a fair amount of Charr style because of the similar body types. Kodan are sort of dour and far too similar (because polar bears), but I have the perfect name for one, and I want to giggle at all the sad Shirokuma fans that walk around in Chef Outfits. :P
Or Skritt. I doubt it’ll happen, but it should!

This is my stance, as well. I’ve a long list of things I’d like done with (apparently) limited dev time. Because forums, I believe I’m not alone.
I think the Tengu would be a fun race to play (I’d definitely play one). And while I agree with others that Dwarves rule as a fun race, it’s already written into the lore here that they are all but gone (with the last few turning to stone). Bringing Dwarves back would undermine the great sacrifice they made.
Wanna really be ‘off the wall’? Bring the Skritt in as a playable race ~lol~. sniff sniff “You smell……different.”
I don’t. I want current races polished more instead, like Armor actually scaling and fitting everyone correctly. Maybe even adding unique animations to Sylvari and Norn as well. Norn males also need a redesign so they actually look muscular and proportionate. Charr need an upright stance option like GW1 Charr Shaman as well still.
Adding a new race would just make things worse.
I can’t see us having Tengui. It would be cool, but would call for a reworking of all the armor sets in the game. We might get Largous as they seem to use the human model, but have big wings, nothing new there really, so they would probably be the next.
