IT'S HAPPENING! Challenging Group Content
Whoot?
At the moment we know nothing about it. For all we know, they could consider VB the ‘challenging group content’
Verdant Brink itself is absolutely not the challenging group content. The wyverns aren’t either. They have already explicitly stated that they have yet to reveal any of the “challenging group content”, so this would include already revealed things.
…and introduce something like the vinewraith there. I will hold off on my applause until after I see what they are hyping.
Maybe, but every indication is that it is something different from what we’ve seen. I agree though about holding applause. Obviously this has the GW2 team very excited, but the fact is we, the players, simply know nothing about it, so we don’t have much of a reason to be excited ourselves just yet.
Colin announcing “Challenging Group Content” on Saturday 29th August? Hmm will be one to watch – fingers crossed everyone!
That’s nice and all but who cares.
We all know the most important announcement is going to be Revenant underwater specializations….
Oh i kid. We all care. Hopefully its some form of dungeon delving (like actual multifloor dungeon with a non-linear approach) and platforming/puzzle elements.
The combat itself really wont change much if any, outside of smarter AI (IE it wont chase you, wont sit in the red circles, can dodge etc…)
Well they are getting to 2 big names to announce this feature so we can only start to speculate.
Aww, that title had me disappointed – I thought a new blog had been released (Might want to change it to avoid similar instances ).
Spoiler – It’s a giant tic tac toe game where the loser drops one of their legendary weapons.
I hope, if anything, it’s just 10-15 people dungeons. Tribute to Urgoz’s Warren or The Deep or something. I also hope that they are mechanic heavy dungeons. The way Aetherpath was designed, so people have to work hard.
Restore that which was lost. And all shall be as one.”
I love your video, I love your accent and I love you! Please make more GW2 videos.
Hopefully, I’ll see you in Challenging Group Content!!!! (it will probably be open world though)
What is happening?
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”
Hawks
Well, so far they said that the content in open world like the Wyvern is not the CGC, the fractals update is also not the CGC, there was a thread CDI on raids, they filled a job position regarding raids and the details will be announced as said above by the biggest names on the 29th.
I don’t know why but I have randomly regained my faith and hopes after this teaser to call it so. It’s really, IMO their last chance to lay down AT LEAST the basis on which to build this CGC. They can’t really go bad… I hope at least.
There’s a saying in my country, “the hope dies last” so I still have ~2 weeks of hype for myself in this case.
There’s a saying in my country “A Scotsman never gives up hope we only give up on trying”.
Not sarcastic at all. You sound like someone who likes to have fun and you also sound like someone I used to raid on WoW with. Good times were always had.
Aww, that title had me disappointed – I thought a new blog had been released (Might want to change it to avoid similar instances ).
Nah blog for PAX will probably be next week as PAX Prime is in 2 weeks wow Anets a busy bee this month.
OF HAPPENINGS ( ?° ?? ?°)
Hello everyone. Some of you may know me from in-game but for the majority I’m a fresh face around. Aka my first forum post. Do not worry, I’m heavily invested in the franchise since Prophecies came out.
Long story short I. AM. EXCITED. AT A GALACTIC LEVEL for the new Group challenging content! What can it be? Hopefully raids. A token of appreciation for A-net for not abandoning the project despite the whole opposition. Are you guys as excited as me? Too much to rant in a post thus I made a video.
If you take the time to watch it be aware of the heavy accent as I am not a native English speaker, hopefully you can understand what I am saying. I will try to invest myself from this day forward way more directly into the community and all kinds of discussions are appreciated Video Rant!
What do you expect they will announce? What are your fears or your desires ( ?° ?? ?°)? I for one hope for instanced content, an exclusive reward, hard difficulty and for the love of the Fractal Reset, please, not one-shots and HP sponges.
let me put it this way.
1? year ago tons of mobs spawned on cursed shore etc, people cried for less mobs cus it was to “hard”.
when a dev says “challenging” they actually mean challenging for handless people…
even if they manage to do it i hope its open world stuff and not crap inside dungeons, cus i rather play game “solo” i dont care if theres 100 people around me but i do care when some “wise people” gonna tell me how fast i need to steam roll tru a stupid dungeon or what gear im suppose to use no thnx thus why i prefer the open world stuff on the other hand i dont do that much PvE but when i do i just wanna grind which is pain in the kitten right now with anet having mobs nerfed like hell
Raid is coming?
I really enjoy your personality and method of relating your thoughts. I’d definitely like to hear you talk about other interesting GW2 topics and your take on various subjects. If you have time for it in your daily schedule, I’d like to see many more videos. If you would like suggestions for topics I could certainly toss out a few. Thanks for your video on this subject!

Are we getting raids ?
Gosh, I hope not. One thing I never understood was that raiding fans come the ONLY larger MMO not having raids and then complain about their absence when there are dozens of games out there providing what they are looking for. Personally I am super-happy NOT to have all this drama and elitism surrounding raids in this game.

Because GW2 plays different than the regular MMO. That’s why I’m really curious how a raid would be in THIS game.
Looking forward to seeing content announced I will never get to participate in b/c I am stubborn and use non-meta builds. Ok maybe not…lol.
So if raids are in then….a buff to healing power is in order!? If so, I’d be super duper happy. If not…/yawn. Just more content I won’t get to see, just like fractals and dungeons. Horray!
(edited by fixit.7189)
I don’t see this working out well for the game at all. There are a few options here:
1. The content is actually challenging, but the loot isn’t great so people stop doing it
2. The content isn’t challenging and the loot isn’t great so it won’t get used much.
3. The content is challenging and the loot is awesome, they will alienate a good portion of their playerbase
4. The content isn’t challenging and the loot is awesome, it will be speed run farmed.
The key with challenging content is having the reward reflect the difficulty. Just look at triple wurm, the number of people doing that nosedived as the rewards weren’t anywhere near the difficulty. Unless ArenaNet overhauls the gear system/progression I think this is another in a long line of content that wasn’t really worth the time they spent developing it.
I’ll also point out that this might make ascended gear “mandatory”, so we can get back to having the ascended gear argument.
If raids do end up in game and if they are indeed really hard, the raiders will ask for another tier of gear which leads to an endless road of darkness and pain. I know anet stated they won’t be adding another gear tier but that’s same thing they said before ascended/buffing legendaries. Then raiders will eventually face roll those raids and then ask for hard modes with even better gear. Raiding will either become mandatory or a waste of time. I have this sinking feeling it might change the game for the worst. There are reasons why I don’t play WoW no more and mandatory raiding is one of them; gw2 I can solo with no guild and get good gears/items….not so in WoW. Hence, GW2 is one of my fav mmos ever!
(edited by fixit.7189)
Sorry, you add raids and raiders will start making demands for better gear in them b/c of risk vs reward arguements. Why should soloer like me get easy gear just playing easy content when a raider has to pay lots of gold on consumables/gear/etc then grind their faces against super tough content over weeks if not months yet not get rewarded more for it? This is what they will say, just wait…it’s coming.
For record, I have NEVER done a fractal. I tried a few times but moment they found out I was in full cleric gear I got the boot. I get same treatment in dungeon run
Fun times ahead here in GW2 for sure.
I expect nothing less than a huge disappointment.
As long as the open up FoW and UW again I will have no problems I just really want to beat those missions.
All I can say is I HONESTLY hope it isn’t jsut more world bosses like Teq or 3 Headed wurm. Because at the end of the day, those things rely on too many people and just become zergfests.
I would liek to see INSTANCED 10 man content liek FOW or UW. it is the major new dynamic that this game lacks. We have bosses, we have 5 man stuff, we do NOT have 10 man “raid” like group content.
Anything other than this will be a disappointment.
I can hope that at least all the great support and healing builds on the new toon’s will be actually needed to do things. Plus Tanks will be needed.
Actually current content probably needs these roles in many places to do things well or at least with less than the huge numbers used to do things. ARNET stated intent was to make different roles not mandatory not make everyone a dps glass.
So I do hope for challenging content that requires more than stack and burn. In fact if stack and burn works anywhere the developers need to fix that.
Raid is coming?
lets just say if there is even a smell of a raid coming to this game at all .
then be ready for what happens next because of it . or put it like this if Anet brings in way shape or form of Raids of any type . like they have in other games then be ready
for a lot of people to leave this game for good and not look back, as Anet will have
very badly messed this game up . as it will not be a good fit for this game no matter how you look at it . or try to put it just not good for this game at all.

There was an entire CDI thread (topic started by devs, in which the devs actually participate in the discussion) focused around discussing “raid-like” content in GW2, and (if they were to add it) in what unique form it should take to be conductive to GW2.
A lot of good ideas came from that thread, and there’s no real reason to think it would ruin GW2.
Incredibly briefly boiling down the thread to its basics (based on memory), it came down to "challenging content for medium sized groups, which adequately engages a group of that size (aka no zerging), in an instanced environment with no “gear treadmill” (aka no more powerful gear)".
There are already enough elitist Arah soloers, zerk dungeon runners and lvl 50 fractal grabbers around(yeah, I know, just don´t join our parties, open your own group, jaba jaba…), they have enough outlets. And still, if a single raid would satisfy them, I would relucantly advocate for an introduction of it. But we all know it wouldn´t, as soon as the first guild would be through, the yawning and moaning would begin all over again…
I am as annoyed as everyone else when for example Marionette failed because of people unable to play their class or unable to see how the mob worked, but I still vastly prefer that to a closed raid full of pros.
10/10 this guy is a secret anet employee trying to hype gw2 challenging content.

You forgot #5: the content is challenging… for a few weeks/months before people figure out how best to farm it and they start crying for more.
“challenge” is nothing more than a stalking horse for “I want better rewards than the unwashed masses”.
ITT (and all subsequent ones): major disappointment as people hyped themselves up for stuff which will never happen.
Also what Hyper said. In 6 months we’ll be here crying about all dungeons being trivial and just being skipped with zerker gear, and we want “challenging group content”.

No it’s not.
“Challenge” is wanting content that will engage you and take full advantage of the mechanics the game holds.
Monster Hunter is one of my favorite franchises for a good challenge. Coming upon a silver rathalos, a tigrex, a nargacuga, etc, for the first time, you’ve got a really hard fight on your hands. But by the times you’ve built a full set of armor and a weapon off them, kitten straight you’ve got them on farm and are looking for more to challenge you.
Yes, wanting a trophy to show for your accomplishment is often a facet of challenging content. But don’t for a second think people aren’t after the challenge itself. It’s not a stalking horse for special-snow-flake-syndrome, the challenge itself is what’s most important.
Challenging content is what many people find fun, because it is what best engages them, best makes use of the game’s mechanics, gives them a goal to surmount, and feels great to accomplish.
Many people are not satisfied with running through content and spamming 1 while rolling in loot. They want the game to engage them in meaningful ways, and that is the crux of “challenge”.
Which is why Aetherpath is the most popular dungeon path in the game, right?
Which is why Aetherpath is the most popular dungeon path in the game, right?
It would be more popular, if it was actually rewarding.
RNG is not a good method for rewarding challenging content.
That is the issue with Aetherpath (outside of its obvious AI issues and bugs).
Whatever it’s gonna be, it’s gonne be just 1, with the rest coming sometimes in the future.
Calling it now.

You mean like unique skins and extra chests of loot and such? :P

i did not see that topic .but lets say if they did bring raids to this game and put it lets say with wvw or pvp. and had it so it did not mess up pve. that would be the best and about only way it could work out well. but if they was to put it with pve i do not see it going as good. they just need to not change the pve end. if they do that then they will be fine. this way every one gets what they want . and no one gets something taken away .
It would be more popular, if it was actually rewarding.

You mean chest that pretty much always contain 2 blues and a green…..
and have as good a chance at those unique skins as getting a precursor to drop. Sure.
There’s a saying in my country, “the hope dies last” so I still have ~2 weeks of hype for myself in this case.
are you portuguese by any chance?
I still remember when they added the wvw reward chests. Everyone was so hyped.
Then we started opening those chests after gaining a rank…and the 2 greens were there.
No I’ m sorry i’ m not hyped
It’s about time! This is the major selling feature for a lot of players.
It’s about time! This is the major selling feature for a lot of players.
it is also something that will make a lot of players leave this game for good if this is even put into the game and it is the worst idea ever . doing this it will no longer be guild wars 2 . it might as well be wow and charge to play . just saying

holy hell…he literally just said the same thing less than an hour ago. just saying.
I am in favor of challenging content regardless of what it is, raids, dumbgeons, Super SAB, but they will face opposition if the skill gate is to high for some to climb into. Hopefully they will continue to build bridges for the less skilled/dedicated to take a crack at new challenges
#ShrubLife
#DoItForTheVine
I’m cautiously optimistic. This and warrior elite are the main selling points for me so I hope it won’t disappoint.
Ideally it will be something that’s easy to get into i.e. easy to set up a group for and try but hard to complete with nonRNG, purely cosmetic rewards for those who beat it. I also hope it will tie in with precursor crafting so that the new legendaries actually have some kind of prestige and require you to master your class through facing difficult challenges.
Oh yeah, and please release new content on a regular basis, so it won’t end up like dungeons.

I am in favor of challenging content too as well and hope we get that but yet riads iam not in favor of them at all . it would be good if they went back to a more of a mmo game kinda like in the way the first guild wars was i will even take it one more step higher . it be nice if they add heroes to this game as well as some times you can not play with your friends for what ever reason . and yet you want the challenging content and still be able to get it done with the need skills too

Haha .. so classic. Not much more to say.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Haha .. so classic. Not much more to say.
Yes, ‘classic’ carrot-on-stick tactics are a primary means of getting people into content in MMOs.
If you’re invoking the word “classic” to imply anything else, you’re off-base.
Rewards are obviously a prime motivator to get people into content, but that is in no way mutually exclusive to a desire for challenging content.
Not to mention how the two have good synergy. A reward you put effort into earning is all the more satisfying, compared to something that was simply handed to you.
And aether path isn’t the most popular dungeon because
a) as mentioned, the rewards suck
b) it’s frankly not that challenging, still subject to the same brainless farmfest
c) Anet abandoned dungeons for the most part, resulting in:
c1- a lack of developed dungeon community to actually flourish around and run challenging instances
c2 – relatively crude and poorly developed dungeons due to lack of iteration and improvement. Good for a start, but 3 years down the line very lacking. Vanilla WoW boss encounters were similarly crude and poorly designed. But they kept making new dungeons and raids and progressively figured out how to best design encounters for their game.
My point with all this is that no where in my earlier post did I imply that rewards didn’t motivate people. Just that challenging content, in and of itself, is desirable and has several positive effects on the game experience.
You forgot #5: the content is challenging… for a few weeks/months before people figure out how best to farm it and they start crying for more.

Haha .. so classic. Not much more to say.
I’ll add some context, outside of fractals Aetherpath is my favorite dungeon.
It’s still far and away less rewarding than it should really be. But that’s poor design for you. Which is something that can be fixed with a simple patch that shifts the gold rewards for dungeons to actually encourage people to run harder content. No more getting a free 1.5g for something as easy as CoF 1 or SE1 etc…
Once you do that and then go back and polish out some of the poorly thought out pathing and scripting in dungeons you’ll find the ones people seldom do will see an influx of players.
