So everyone who is looking for class or race changes, I propose a fun way to do it, yet costs no money.

At lvl 80, at a specific area, you can pay an amount of gold, karma, and skill points to go through a rebirth process. When that happens, you go through the create your character process again, while retaining your name.

What you keep:
-All your currencies
-All your bags and items(transferred to the bank)
-Your world completion*
-Your crafting materials and recipes, but not your level

Benefits:
-You get to change your class and race, getting a new personal storyline based on the choices you make.
-If you change classes, your armor transforms into the equivalent(heavy to light, etc.)

For example, if you were an Asura Mesmer before you were reborn, you would have a small chance to create an illusion that deals low damage when you cast a skill, and once per day you can get into one of those Asuran golems.

Open to suggestions!

*You get all your world exploration Exp and waypoints back when you enter the area, not right at the start.

The benefits thing is a cool sounding idea, but would force people to play through to level 80 four times to get a single maxed character. I really don’t think that would go down very well :p

Also, losing your materials would sort of screw over your alts for no obvious reason…

I would love a way to access a secondary set of class skills though

Changed 15% to 10%
You keep your crafting recipes but not your lvl.

Hmm..what if your bank is full when you decide to be ‘reborn’? Where does everything go then? What happens to your armor and/or weapons if you change from say, light to heavy or medium? What happens to cultural armor/weapons? What happens to your Personal Story and your Home Instance? What about Personality? Do these things reset to zero or the equivalent?

How much programming code do you think this involves? Would it be cost-effective for ArenaNet? Should it, instead, be something one would purchase?

While this is an interesting concept, implimentation would be a nightmare. You would also have lots more people complaining that they dont have the time to spend leveling and therefore will never get the bonuses. Also you have to ask yourself…. why?

1) The ability to change race – should never happen as it would break immersion and wouldnt be based on GW lore
2) Some added skills – may or may not be useful and could be implemented in the standard fashion of, well, making new skills available
3) The % to stats – would cause issues with balancing (PvE and WvW) and isnt needed.

Then maybe we would get mailed the excess items?

My goal for this is that you can change some of the core decisions for your character. As your typical noob, I have made some choices regarding class and race that I regretted, but I already bonded with that character. That little asura mesmer is “Me”, and I don’t want to be stuck with a class that I do not enjoy.

I want it to be a fun and innovative way to personalize your character, instead of a “Pay 10$ to change this thing.”(of course that’s fine too, but it is hardly likely they will do that."

I can just see people using this as free storage. I don’t think that will work.

If you want to change everything except the name, pay the $10, or whatever it is, and buy a name change contract or two. Make a new character and change the name. Choose different Personal Story paths.

I just don’t see how ‘Rebirth’ would work without causing a multitude of community and programming and balance problems.

I have 9 character slots, with 5 80s, and I didn’t even have to spend a dime past the initial game purchase. Not to mention all the bank tabs, passes, pets, kits, etc. This game pretty much let’s you do anything for little to no cost. I think that’s fantastic.

But, that’s just me.

The thing is, this game is powerful enough to make your character feel like yourself. Would you kill your kid because he didn’t live up to your expectations? The rebirth idea makes it so that you don’t just abandon your character.

Blink.

I am afraid I’m not one of those people that have much transference with their characters. I also haven’t ‘killed off’ any of my characters. I certainly didn’t suggest anything of the sort.

I did mention, however, some of the drawbacks to your ‘plan’. And, as it might be unlikely to see fruition, some alternatives that you might consider. Up to you what you do, of course. Best of luck. =)

Increase of stats = worste idea ever. Why… … … would you do that, it just forces you to do a rebirth 2 times. Makes no sense… You didn’t mention it, but if you’re charracter becomes lvl 1 again, that means, the max level of the game is lvl 240. >_<

Why would I want to play through the content that I did already?

If anything, the game needs less stats and levels, not more. I don’t want to play to see pointless numbers go up.

There should be much more horizontal progression: New skills, new dungeons, new cool looking items, housing, guild halls, player owned towns, etc.

I have a feeling this idea would be viewed as a new form of “treadmill for higher stats to ownz fools” so it will be looked down on from most players here I am sorry to say…

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

This. This as in the bolded part. This needs to come years before any type of “rebirthing” concept comes into play.

RNG is a bell curve. Better hope you’re on the right side.

Nice idea, but without the benefits. We don’t need power gaps. Would love it if you would revive for example as a medium armor user your gear would be transformed into the medium equivalent of your previous stuff. That would be awesome. Don’t forget it would reset your PS. Cool idea, gets more awesome the more I think about it.

That’s a lot better imo.
I recently decided to reroll my warrior as an asura, for obvious reasons. ;P
This system would make it a lot easier, since I am forced to buy more slots or delete existing characters if I’m in need of something new.

Oh yes, how do you picture this? As a gem store purchase with unlimited use or with some kind of fee? And would you allow switching back to classes/races that you already leveled to 80 on that character or others or make them locked again?

Class and race changing in the gem store was suggested many times, but ArenaNet said they wouldn’t do it.

That’s why I came up with this idea.
