If guildwars 2 had monthly fee
No, not now, not ever.

Another what if thread?
It doesn’t have subscription. It would be designed differently if it did. You cannot play the what if game here.
Nope.
I don’t play game enough to justify a subscription.
The better question to ask is- "If GW2 had the option to download for free and trial play would anyone still be playing it?
Probably not, at least the majority.
I have played numerous MMO’s and feel we need something unique and solid. GW2 is NOT that game. it is basically a bonified ROM clone with upgraded visuals on a different world. The sounds, the characters(toons), sytem and architecture of play and premises is almost exactely the same.
For example if you build a human female character in GW2 and ROM, and compare animations….it is essentially identical. This is one of the many flaws and xeroxs I have found and have only been playing for a few days.
I abhor the fact that other players can freely jump into a fight with you, well I don’t abhor it…it’s just unsettling and rude.
The storylines do not attract me, the visuals aren’t that spectacular(found SWTOR better primarily because of low FPS with GW2) and the scripting is bluntly aweful and cheesy.
I will still play in order to extract the purchase price value, but long after that it will be shelved for lack of ingenuity and the false advertisement.
They should of advertised GW2 like this;
“All you wow and rom fans out there, listen up we got a newly improved version of your old warhorses that I think you will enjoy…….we made adjustments, upgrades and embelished your tried and true formulae to make it a little better with the extra bonus of no subscription fee.”
In comparison it’s visually breathtaking new world with new characters and skills.
“It’s more or less the same, but not similar!”
No.
I bought this game as well as gw because there was no sub fee.
If anet decided to do that, then tec i would want every penny i put in tp as well as buying the game back.
Not at the rate I level
IF I had to pay, I’d play DAOC instead. My 2 cents.
I am unlikely to play a sub-required game again. If GW2 had one at launch, I would not have bought the game. I want to buy a game, not rent it. Granted that Blizzard has made a mint on the sub model. However, I’ve seen no arguments that convinced me that the sub model was better for the consumer.
I love the Angry Joe review where he goes into a game store and the clerk tries to sell him WoW as best the mmo.
That’ll be $60 then sir.
That’’ll be 15 more dollars by the way
Uh 15 more dollars sir
That’ll be fifteen dollars!
15 dollars…
15 dollars!
Fifteen dollars
$15
That’ll be 15 dollars!
(Angry Joe punches out the clerk’s lights)
Yeah, sub fee games suck.
i’d pay it.
QUIT- RETIRED

That’s somehow implying that most people play GW2 because they bought it anyway and spent the money so it has to pay off, which I can ensure you is not the case for me.
^ Angry Joe is spot-on in that review
If GW2 had a subscription I wouldn’t be here playing. The sole reason I bought GW2 (and GW1+expansions) was because it was B2P.
After SWTOR I swore never to play a subscription based game ever again; no matter how ‘awesome’ it may be.
Having to pay $60 for nothing more than a login screen and then forcing you to pay $15/month in order to actually access the game (basically renting your account) is nothing more than a scam these days in my opinion.
Fojja – Vyxxi – Nymmra – Mymmra – Champion of Dwayna .. and more
Highly Over Powered Explorers [HOPE] – Desolation EU
Considering how many friggin gems I buy, I might as well be paying a sub fee.
even if it was 1$ per month i wouldn’t be paying.
Would you be still paying for it now or would you freezee the account (temporary not paying) until something new worth playing came out (like an expansion?).
Honest answers please.
I probably would do the 2nd thing.
Second option. Just like I do for my F2P or sub games that have sub bonuses.
If guild wars 2 actually launched with a monthly sub and could push out the content worthy of a sub fee. Sure i guess i would pay. But if they charged now with the current system and content updates, no way in hell would i pay.
no game ever deserves a monthly fee. period. if you really want to put in that $15 a month for GW2 , buy $15ish of gems every month.
So to turn the chat to a new level what MMORPG would you pay a monthly fee for?
There WoW the new Elder scroll games ff14 remake any other P2P games out there?
For me i would not play any mmorpg that has a fee on it FF11 was the only one i did pay to play but that game has become something i do not like so i stopped playing / paying for it.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA
If it would now go pay to play i would be angry but would still play it.
Is the game worth a sub fee? Definatelly and had that been the original intention i would have payed no questions asked.
I would move onto a different game immediately.
I have no issue with monthly subscription games (prefer it to be honest and still subscribe to 2). However i will not give money to a game with no in game GMs, no phone support, so would not pay a subscription for GW2 (wont buy gems either)
NOOOOO. I don’t pay monthly fees for MMO’s, if guildwars3 had a MF I would go back to playing CoD/BF on PC, the only time I paid to play online was Xbox live for a year, for Halo 2 which turned out to be crap…
If it was 5 dollars or so sure. 10 dollars 15 or 20 probly not.
i love the game. i wont sub for games anymore. the last few i have paid for felt like the devs took their players for granted. they also always had maintenance down times. gw2 is free and has no downtimes(barely ever).
I would not pay a subscription fee for this or any other game.
I don’t think any game, no matter how good it is, is worth paying a sub fee for. The days of P2P are over.

if guild wars 2 had a monthly fee …
i would never buy it and play it in the first place.
It is one of those very interesting question because it is a double edged sword.
GW2 is a very good game, but let’s be honest here. There’s only room for one p2p game in this market and that’s WoW. All other games are either forced to quit or forced to go f2p. At the very least GW2 didn’t fall into this trap which allowed it to focus on non-grindy content. In the end, grind is the hallmark of p2p games.
- flight paths taking ages to cross a continent
- mounts because there’s no instant waypoints
- absurd crafting systems
- tedious levelling
- weekly raid locks
- reputation dailies
- gear destroying tiered “updates”
- and yet paying for “expansions”
Those are all symptoms of the core MMO problem, not features you’d want in a good game.

i was brought into Guild Wars franchise specifically because of the no-monthly-fee tag…. so no, i probably would not have played GW2 if there is a monthly fee.
Archeage = Farmville with PK
1. When is F2P game, so you have a lot kids and less serious players.
2. DEV team put less effort in this game. If you look now in game, the game is not finished at all. So I left this game, because is missing a lot important things: LFG system and LFG separate chat channel, also is hard to find group in this game which you can do dungeons. So you wasting time and money on this game. I don’t see any effort from DEV team. They don’t understand that is MMO and how to ingrate system into this game.
3. I realise that most players hardly learn how to play dungeons. Main problem in dungeons is the time. So they don’t have enough time to pass room. Also You have to know a build system and put a lot effort to know about tactic. I can say that they made this game for serious people. But then this game F2P so you can meet only 10-25 % serious people who know how to play. So is another reason why is hard to find a group.
4. WvWvW game have a broken system. In other words is boring and just wasting time. I prefer play PvP than WvWvW.
So probably I will come after 2 yeas and I will see how they improved this game and I hope that they will finish this game in two years. I was supporting since December very month. I think I total spend about 100 pounds. But when you play WoW or other games, you have all main things that’s need for MMO games. And also you get a lot fun. But in this game, I just breaking keyboard. So at the moment this game is not for me.
Of course not, the main reason as to why I got this MMO because it has no monthly fees. (even though there are more reasons why I got Guild Wars 2, the “No-Subscription Fees” thing really got me)
If Guild Wars 2 had a monthly fee, then like every other MMO that charges a monthly fee I wouldn’t have even looked at it again once I knew about it.
I buy gems, 10$/month to support them.
Usually spend those gems on extra space in the bank and on the bag slots for my characters.
So let’s say I would be willing to pay 10$/month subscription.
If they provide more content every month, I could go to, let’s say 25$/month.
I would never of bought it in the first place..
No, don’t like pay2play model.
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
I’d pay but they would seriously have to improve the game to get my money.
if GW2 had sup then I would have stopped playing months ago, maybe I wouldnt even have started. The GW2 content is boring me a lot and I don’t know if I am interested in a paid expansion.
If GW2 was P2P, I would not have bought it, even though I was a fan of GW1. I don’t play P2P games. I don’t have enough hours in a month to play to justify spending money on a sub.
If paying a subscription meant they’d stop nerfing gold making activities in order to protect the precious gem shop, I’d be all for it.

Non sequitur. Gold bought in the gem shop is always farmed by a player first. No gold is created through conversions but rather sinked.
Gold gain is a bit slow in this game to counter heavy inflation, which seems to work. On the other hand, the gem store is still too cheap. 100gems should give at least 2gp.

The problem is that without a monthly fee, a game customer can’t afford that much ressources to gather the game. WoW can do that because of the fee, this is why they have so many expansions and things that get done much faster.
You must be joking.
Although the game is worth a sub-fee, I would NOT pay it purely on principle of not supporting Subscription MMOs. Don’t care how great a game it is, I no longer support the business model.

I probably would do the 2nd thing.
Had there been a subscription model, I wouldn’t have purchased it to begin with. Had I been gifted an account with six months of free play (for example), I would have had the account frozen and not paid anything in the end.
Aerika [HoTR] – Necromancer
If they had a monthly fee the game could quite possibly be a rewarding game to play. From GW2 and one other game I’ve played with the same monetization scheme, I’d say RMT creates a game with a loot wasteland. It’s quite possible that a monthly fee would solve that.
if there was a monthly fee I would not play this game period. its wasn’t really worth the $50 to begin with.
Wouldn’t have bought it because it would have been a different game then. I like the possibility of supporting ANet by buying gems when I want to, not when they think I have to. I guess I spent about ~250€ ($320) on GW2 by now and it was totally worth it considering the high overall quality of the game and the time I spent in it so far.
