I keep getting ads for some dating sites – and other things I won’t mention due to the forum rules – whenever I have the game open. They open in internet explorer and are pretty disruptive.

Your computer is probably infected by some sort of Adware or Malware. Try googling Malwarebytes and installing the free-trial version. It’s a great free software that will let you scan your computer. The only thing missing from the free version (in contrast to the paid) is active protection.

The scan should find and remove whatever is bothering you.

“You know what company I mean” pretty sure wont make advertisement for anything exept their won gemshop. If I were you I would consider installing a real browser instead of that deathtrap called IE. Also get a anti mal/adware program and make a complete security sweep, your account data could be compromised too.

Age has nothing to do with it. Your computer can be a few minutes old and get infected with adware and such. It sounds like you have a case of it.

I have no idea what you are complaining about here, but I won’t discredit your claims. Perhaps there is a bug or issue you have with the client interfacing your web browser that most others like myself do not experience.

Like some have mentioned though, it sounds more reasonable to credit your issue to some sort of browser-jacking virus/program you have managed to get into your “system”.

Hey dude you are walking into a wall.

You are not getting it. It isn’t GW2 causing your problem. It is some adware on your computer. If it were GW2 that was popping up adverts for dating sites and other things this forum would be on fire with complaints. Oh, and stop using IE, use Firefox or Chrome.

I agree this isn’t a GW2 related thing, but the OP may not be using IE? I use FireFox but for some reason whenever I close GW1 (I don’t play it often, just when guildies have time to help me scrounge HoM points), I get an IE window for no reason at all.

In FireFox I have a number of permatabs. I’ve noticed that when I go into TinyPic to upload images I get weird snippets of ad sound, same with some TESO info sites, and I have to restart my browser to stop them. That is not the game’s fault however, merely a side effect of sites I, as someone who likes to play that game, tend to access frequently.

Congrats, you made me chuckle.

@OP: GW2 doesn’t open your browser and doesn’t have any forms of ads. The situation is as others have said, you have malware/adware/something of that sort.

However, you seem to be convinced that it isn’t your computer that’s the problem, but the game isn’t even capable of creating the issues you’re talking about. Try running something internet related beyond GW2, and you should end up with the same thing as when you do run GW2.

But if you insist ignoring folks’ advice, then the only thing I and anyone else here can do is just ignore you and presume you’re a troll. And that’s what I suggest folks do from here on out, as I shall do such.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Where they playing a female but they really a male.
Strongly urge you not to try dating in GW2 because a lot of people are Ladyboy’s in GW2.

Best not to date anyone through video games period, a lot of crazy people out there. Do it the old fashion way in real life, because that’s real life stuff. Separate the real life from video games and internet.

You have got to be trolololing. You’ve got all the ingredients: a ridiculous premise (what connection is there between GW2 and browsers?); the silly phrase “’net scene” (though, I like your brazen style); and the buzzwordy, but meaningless “infosec.” Go back to getting drunk and huffing paint.

lol I don’t use IE much but it has blockers also, silly kid.

he’s got an infection of some sort so changing browsers isn’t gonna help the root of the problem.

and after noticing the picture finally, you got issues, maybe not viral but … I’d send in a ticket, with the screenshot, im sure one of them will recognize what that is and give you a few tips to fix.

if not uninstall your browser, do the basics of cleaning all temp crap. reinstall browser, see what happens. should take 5 mins.

You can go ahead and deny it’s because of GW2 but I think everyone with some knowledge regarding viruses will realize that either you had an outdated firewall and got infected by browsing. Can happen through java, flash, email etc. and especially when downloading software from a ton of places. Like others have already said, clean up your PC. The GW2 doesn’t infect you with viruses for one simple reason, the browser only connects to ANET and if you were infected through that there would be thousands of people with the same issue. Your own stubbornness will just leave you with potentially a compromised bank account, a compromised GW2 account and whatever else you use on that PC.
