So yeah, I like that whole portal stone idea. Too bad I have so many sylvari and Asuran characters. You know a charr, human or norn can portal into their home instance and they have all sorts of merchants.

Sylvari you can’t use the portal stone and say, buy a salvage kit, because you don’t have a vendor in there. Admittedly you can sell to the repair guy.

Why should some home instances have more options than others? Why isn’t there a merchant in the Sylvari or Asuran home instance.

What, only the big people get merchants? lol

It’s an attempt to balance the fact that Sylvari always get to be superheroes (Trahearne, Scarlet, Aerin) and Asura are a close second do to Asura-tech being at the center of pretty much everything.

Useful home instances is a way of throwing a bone to the lesser races.

Who cares about the NPCs as long as there is no Banker and TP ?
Thats normally the main reason why i port to Hoelbrak .. and crafting.

NPCs to sell trash can be found everywhere else in the world.

I almost fear that a “home instance banker” and the like will be sold at the gemstore later.

But on topic – I agree.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

It’s not really a big deal. But it’s added value to a portal stone is all. If they’re selling portal stone to home instances for 900 gems, I want all the amenities.

While it still may not be worth it to you, the real value in the new Home Portal Stone is you get to port BACK to where you were. That is the best part.

Still awaiting the people that did calculations on the accountbound tools to state how many decades you have to play to make up for the cost, compared to simply paying like 2 silver to go to a waypoint of choice (since its free back to a merchant through sPvP, the actual teleport to merchant thing is completely pointless).

Assuming you teleport once daily, from the max possible distance, you will save kitten a day.

It costs about 130 gold to get the gems for it. I think the price of gems went up a bit but w/e

I’ve got a airship pass so a portal stone wouldn’t be too bad. Although wish I’d gotten the royal pass instead since with LA being reinstated the ability to relatively easily port to different major cities, as stated in the airship pass description http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Captain's_Airship_Pass_, is gone.

So, just like getting to your Borderland WvW area? Only it’s not free, and character bound?

It’s not free, it’s character bound, it takes up a slot in your inventory, you don’t have access to the crafting sites and through them your bank and its inventory. You don’t have access to the trading post, a laurel vendor, most merchants or for some races, armor repair. You don’t have the ability to harvest more than a handful of nodes (at most), play, loot or do events. If you leave the instance to do any of this, you will not be able to return to the spot you came from.

Other than that, they’re identical.

If someone doesn’t want to pay 900 gems for the ability to port back to where you came from after going afk and if WvW isn’t an option because of queues, there is PvP. Leaving it returns you to the same site. It’s free. And there is the Hall of Monuments. The portal stone is free, available to every person, has a portal directly to LA and returns you to the site you came from.

Are you sure the Helmsman no longer offers transport to the Asura Gates of different cities? There have been a few threads about trying to port to the Black Citadel and ending up in LA …or vice versa. So, I am confused about no access to the different cities.

If you have stuff you gather every day in your home instance, that’s what it’s for. There’s less interuption in your routine if you’re logging in for a very short period of time. Wherever you are, you port to your home instance, mine/chop everything in there. Charge your quartz crystal if you do that, click again and boom, continue whatever you were doing.

It’s pure convenience.

There is another thread about this, but i’ll post all this here to hopefully get more attention to it.

Currently
“The offered services in home instances are as of this post’s writing:
Charr – Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, General Goods Merchant
Norn – Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, Tavern, Minor Foods Merchant
Human – Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, Tavern, Minor Foods Merchant
Sylvari – Repair
Asura – none”

I personally contacted support requesting they add the same merchants to the other races that are lacking (i play asura) and this is the response I got from ANET SUPPORT…

“Also let us inform you that while not every instance have the option to repair, craft, vendors and others you do have the portal gate that will take you straight to your City where you should be able to sell and take advantage of every other NPC and their purpose.”

As said in the other thread, not only is this a canned answer, it’s also a wrong answer to the whole point of the portal stone. If i use the stone to go to the asuran home instance, then walk through the portal to Rata Sum to find a vendor, it breaks the portal stone return to starting location.

Given the current situation and how Anet has decided to handle this situation…I recommend all Asurans and Sylvaris to DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON THE PORTAL STONE. DO NOT BUY GEMS (hoping that don’t buy gems statement will scare Anet and they’ll fix the issue).

For a home instance? LMAO.

Advantages like that won’t make the game enjoyable or less enjoyable for anyone. Those who played a human who then play an Asuran won’t think wow, having nothing in my home instance is more enjoyable.

This is a misapplied cliche. It’s like when people tell writers to show, not tell. It’s often the wrong advice.
