Infinite Gathering Tools modification?
and here I thought that the fact that it was soulbound as opposed to account bound was worst thing about it…
I would trade off my left nut to have them be account bound.
Account bound… account bound… account bound…
You are right, it’s not an economic decision. As far as I am concerned, the only reason to buy one is convenience. It means never having to manage inventory for that slot. Yes, it would be cool if they all harvested faster, but that wasn’t the reason I bought them.
However, I would like to join the chorus that they should be account bound. Right now, they contribute too much to a sense of being nickel and dimed to death. Making them account bound, like the salvage-o-matic thing would generate a lot of goodwill.
£25.5 for 3 gathering tools in a video game who only work on 1 character.
I’m not sure if Gamers are incredibly rich or incredibly stupid…
I bought 14 of them till now
4 characters have all 3, 1 has only the Consortium Harvesting Scythe and my Necro had to got the latest pick.
And @Bastien
That was maybe 400 Gold at in total. Now what about all the rich Gamers that have Legendarys that cost 2000 gold, and thats just one item for ONE character ?
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

If you treat this game like it has a sub fee and invest, say, 10-15 dollars into it per a month on average you can buy quite a lot from the gem store.
Alternatively you can just convert gold to gems.
I’m not convinced the Consortium Scythe is faster (assuming we’re talking about the one that makes a spring appear and not the freaky clown one). I think the animation looks faster because it starts with you swinging the scythe instead of bending down but the actual process of gathering is the same speed.
And the Molten Pick actually looks slower because your character swings the pick further back before bringing it down the first time and then the volcanic bit goes on for a long time, but again the actual speed of harvesting is the same and as soon as the node has changed to it’s ‘used’ state and the items are in your inventory you’re free to run off.
If there is any difference in speed it must be less than a second and I really doubt it’d be a selling point for many people. The main selling points seem to be the animations and the convenience factor of not having to carry around multiple tools.
I bought one of each for my main character after I realised I keep skipping around between maps and probably will do for the entire rest of the time I’m playing this game. I don’t want to carry a full selection of tools and keep having to check which one to use, and decided I’d rather spend real money on the tools than keep buying Ori tools to use on all the nodes. I did the math and for me it made more sense that way – I could more easily save up the money in real life by going without things I didn’t really need (mainly not buying a CD I kind of liked but wasn’t entirely sure about) than find money to keep buying Ori tools in game.

It is faster, because you don’t do the kneel first like with normal gathering tools.
However i bought the first one when it was brand new, and at that time it was not faster and a little buggy i think, and it was changed 2 times until we got the faster version.
So the faster harvesting is really nice, but was not the reason why i bought it in the first place.

Have to agree £25.50 for 3 gathering tools for ONE character is very excessive, if they were cheaper (And soul bound) they would sell more
The game is only £26.94 to buy from Play.
Items like this should be account bound, not soul bound.
It really sucks that they are soulbound. I would never buy more than one set on principle alone, and I would think most others wouldn’t either. So why not make them account bound instead of trying to squeeze out a few more sales and probably discourage just as many people from buying them in the first place.
If they were actually account bound I just might one day get a second set simply for the convienience of having a set for my main and whatever alt I was using at the time, but there is no way I would bind then to a character I may only ever get limited use out of.

Well the Account vs. Soulbound has reared it’s ugly head.
I did not reference it in the original post for a reason. Yes, all other Harvesting Tools ARE Accountbound whereas the Special Tools that I am discussing here are not. I have seen numerous posts calling to light that issue in the past so I chose not to bring it up, yet again.
The items in question are:
- Speed of harvesting
- Infinite use
- Animation
- Excluded was cost, as it is not cost effective to use until you get to a B/E Point years down the road
I have timed the Consortium Harvesting Scythe vs. the standard Sickle and it is definitely faster from the time you hit the key to start harvesting to the time you can leave the node.
I am not at a location where I can access the game and get the actual figures. Maybe someone can test and post the actual harvest differential.
