Q:
SO, it’s been quite a while since I have last been online for Guild Wars 2, and I remember back in my time which was back in January, I quit and moved on to WoW. The differences are quite obtuse in the amount of farming you have to do and the uniqueness factor a player has. Now, I left GW2 because the newer PVE patches felt sort of boring and grindy to me, it didn’t strike me as something I looked forward to playing the storyline for, I think by the time I left you received the eternal dream or whatever it’s called but was left completely clueless as to what’s going to happen. Also, I never complained about having to kill mobs in Orr ever as a tanky guardian, but when I reached magumma and it took a lot to kill mobs I felt as if GW2 is pushing to wards that grindy appeal. I do in fact notice that I grind less in WoW than I do in GW2, a lot less actually, in fact I don’t ever once feel like I’m grinding for anything anymore in WoW. A huge comparison in lore also drove me away, the lore……is okay, but it lacks that spark that people look for in the story, something along the lines of betrayal, or Giagantic bosses working together to destroy all of Tyria, somehow connected with an evil plot or whatever, no, in Guild Wars 2 everyone is your friend, there’s no rivalry in the lore between the races, there’s not world pvp other than WvW, basically, nobody is your enemy, in fact you don’t actually have any, just a bunch of mindless plants controlled by a dragon. It’s almost as if Mordremoth is just some cat in a cave just doing his job, I feel as if he’s doesn’t even have a reason for killing us, he doesn’t even want to kill us, its just nature doing its job. Furthermore, the lack of raiding and uniqueness(without having to pay), is really lacking! Everybody has Sunrise, twilight, and etc, now and days, everyone looks the same when new things come out, it’s really just starting to get annoying now. Now compared to WoW, in wow, you get gold simply for playing the game, in fact, at some point you won’t even need gold anymore, but still Blizz has made it incredibly easy to make gold; in GW2, I felt like flipping was the best way to make gold and flipping alone, in wow I play the game, and got enough gold for what I needed without having to flip or learn to play the economy, etc. I always felt like you weren’t rewarded enough for doing a dungeon, doing a quest, or simply farming mats. Also in gw2 you have an overflow of mats people don’t want, and an underflow of mats people actually need, its really degrading when you think about it. Also the lack of NEW DUNGEONS, the LACK OF RAIDING/ RAIDING GROUPS, the LACK OF SENSIBLE OBJECTIVE, really takes a lot out of GW2. Being as it is Buy to play, I can accept that some armor styles, you should just buy from the in game shop, but seriously, armor styles aren’t everything, and people like seeing numbers, ie people like to ask: how much dps am I doing compared to this guy? how effective is my build? what does this player have that I don’t(non – achievement wise)?
I am in no way trying to endorse that WoW is better than GW2, I jsut wanted to use it as a tool to compare it to as an MMORPG. Other clones of WoW such as LOTRO, Allods, SWTOR, etc, they all have a significant story to them, and yes all of which are great because of its unique dynamic in plot. The question on the story of Tyria should be based on whether the characters CAPTURE what exactly makes a story FANTASTIC.
Nobody wants to see a psychotic villain without prior exposure as to what made them psychotic in the first place (which is what made Zhaitan interesting in lore, but not much was shown from Zhaitan). For example, all I know from the game was that Zhaitan was once the ruler of the city of Orr, but he became corrupted and wanted powerfor himself, so he used dark magic and unleashed the Undead and yaddy yaddy yadda. BUT, THERE WASN’T A SINGLE MOMENT WHERE WE COULD SEE ANY OF IT UNFOLD. We literally have no idea who Zhaitan is as a person! Was he a good guy, righteous, or mischievous? I don’t know, I am clueless, and all we ever got to see from the demonic kitten was his dragon form which looked awesome, but overall, there is nothing special about Zhaitain’s story line in game.
Also WvW is all about coordination I came from a guild where they had extreme coordination skills, and you either cooperated or were kicked from the guild. It was fun. But the problem with all of it and every other massive raid out there is that there isn’t really a system where more than 5 people can join a group. This is really demoralizing, and bless me I love pvp, but this is what I hated most about pvp in guild wars.
In all fairness, Anet is really trying their best, and Tyria still has a lot left to do out there. Maybe the new expansion will introduce raiding, instead of JUST dungeons, and maybe they can drop ascended gear and stuff like that, maybe the lore will introduce characters that have that booming impact rather than “LETS BE FRIENDS” characters, and hopefully we can learn more about Mordremoth’s past instead of only trying to look for a way to stop him. Maybe a new pvp system where players can challenge each other in Tyria kind of like Tera’s Mercenary system and stuff like that, Maybe Something can happen to one of the major cities that leaves significant impact. Maybe they can bring in new mats , probably include recipes that are dropped from boss chests and stuff like that. Maybe give Trahearne and other characters a more serious appeal where people betray each other. Even class specific armor would be fantastic, and throw in a raid, I guarantee that the player base will spike super high.
